Daniel Caesar Shares A Mysterious Trailer For His Upcoming Third Album, ‘Never Enough’

After dropping a pair of fire singles — the vulnerable “Do You Like Me?” and the brutal “Let Me Go” — Daniel Caesar has finally announced his third studio album. His new effort, Never Enough, is set to drop this spring.

Ahead of Never Enough, Caesar has dropped a trailer for the upcoming album. The trailer sees Caesar swinging upside down from a tree. A woman is then seen standing opposite him, as the trailer fades to his logo.

New music can be heard in the trailer as well. On the song, which seems to come from the album, Caesar sings, over a brooding, minimalistic beat, “In the nick of time, that’s when you appear / Girl I was lost, until you found me here / My head was low.”

In an interview with Complex last year, Caesar revealed that while this album isn’t collaboration-heavy, however, working with producer Dylan Wiggins has been an inspiration to his craft.

“If I wasn’t excited about music before — like if I had started to wane in my love for the artform — he definitely has re-inspired me and made me excited about things,” Caesar said.

Daniel Caesar Gets Vulnerable On Beautiful New “Let Me Go” Single: Stream

Though he was cancelled by many in the music community a few years ago, Daniel Caesar seems poised to make a grand comeback in 2023. His first single of the season, “Do You Like Me?” landed at the end of January, and has since amassed upwards of seven million streams on Spotify. Following that, his “Let Me Go” track came this New Music Friday (February 10).

The emotional title finds the R&B vocalist pleading with a lover to relinquish their grip on him. “I’m tryna breathe, why won’t you let me? / I’m tryna leave, please just forget me,” the first verse begins. “And honestly, our sun is setting / Can hardly believe this got so messy.”

“Let Me Go” will appear on Caesar’s upcoming album, apparently called Brutus Embarks. The effort will mark his first release since 2019’s CASE STUDY 01, which found him working alongside greats like Pharrell Williams and John Mayer. Additionally, he was joined by Brandy on one of the project’s most popular titles, “LOVE AGAIN.”

As REVOLT notes, the 27-year-old hinted that he’s entering a new musical era in the caption of a recent Instagram post. “Hello, world. I was born a few minutes ago and I’m already learning,” Caesar wrote at the time. “This isn’t supposed to be a beginning, just a long way from before. I see most of me in almost every one of you. Mirror, mirror. There is so much to talk about, we’re closer than you think. For now, let’s just call this the beginning.”

Quotable Lyrics:

I’m not afraid of manipulation
Stuck in your ways, I’ve run out of patience
You’re lying when you tell me that you won’t be fine
I’m not leadin’ you on I’m leavin’ you behind

Daniel Caesar Gets Brutally Honest On His New Single, ‘Let Me Go’

After dropping his vulnerable new single, “Do You Like Me?” last week, Daniel Caesar has shared another new track. On the brutally honest “Let Me Go,” Caesar warns a woman that he may not be the one for her. He advises her to let him go before things get too toxic.

“Ain’t gonna sleep tonight / My dreams exhaust me / I’ll be awake, ‘til the light / It’s bout that time that I, break away / before my time expires / Baby won’t you let me go,” he sings.

The song’s instrumental is equal parts dreamy and hypnotic, as Caesar‘s vocals shine through, creating a saccharine air amid tambourines and sultry guitars.

According to a press statement accompanied by the song’s release, “Let Me Go” precedes “an exciting announcement to come from Caesar next week.”

Perhaps it could be news about his upcoming album. This time last year, Caesar revealed to Complex that he was working on a new album, and that he was taking inspiration from Michael Haneke films, particularly one called Funny Games.

“That movie is crazy,” he said. “I can’t believe I’ve lived my whole life without knowing about it. The White Ribbon, The Piano Teacher are great films of his, too.”

Daniel Caesar Shows The Ugly Side Of Love In His Heated ‘Do You Like Me?’ Video

Sometimes, loving someone is easier than liking them. Daniel Caesar addresses that complicated conundrum in his new single “Do You Like Me?The 2023 Juno Awards nominee produced the romantic, slow-burning track with Raphael Saadiq and Dylan Wiggins, and the Machine Operated-directed video arrived today, February 1 — just in time to soundtrack myriad messy Valentine’s Day situations.

In the video, Caesar walks into an apartment as a woman is burning a photo of them together. They immediately launch into a heated argument, subtitled in Portuguese. She questions Caesar over where he’s been and demands an explanation. Caesar doesn’t understand why she’s so upset because he was just working, but she isn’t buying it.

Based on the song’s lyrics, the couple has questions looming larger than Caesar’s whereabouts. “Do you like the way I talk to you?” Caesar sings in his signature smooth high register. “Do I titillate your mind?”

By the time the woman storms upstairs, Caesar gets straight to the point: “Do you really like me? / Yeah, we’re still young, but for how many moons?” He wants to find true love despite the risk, and he owns up to his past shortcomings (“At first I was f*cking your friend / But I wanted you”) with hope that he can still have it all in the future (“Will you have my kids? You better / I wanna be in love again”).

The video progresses to the bedroom, where Caesar is still pleading his case. The couple seems to be at an impasse, and Caesar is left alone — looking very tortured by whatever is running through his mind — while she’s in the shower.

“Do You Like Me?” follows “Please Do Not Lean” featuring Badbadnotgood from last April. It marked his first solo release since 2019’s CASE STUDY 01. “Please Do Not Lean” is nominated for Traditional R&B/Soul Recording Of The Year at March’s Junos. All in all, momentum is (hopefully) building toward Caesar’s highly anticipated third studio album.
