DaBaby Reflects On 2021 Homophobia Controversy

DaBaby is something of a controversial figure in the rap community but nothing stands out more than his beef with the LGBTQ+ community in 2021. While performing at Rolling Loud, DaBaby launched into a homophobic rant on stage. “If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter up,” he told attendees. “Ladies, if your pussy smell like water, put your cellphone lighter up. Fellas, if you ain’t sucking dick in the parking lot, put your cellphone lighter up,” the rapper told the crowd.

Days later, DaBaby appeared to double down on his comments. “My gay fans, they take care of themselves. They ain’t no nasty gay n—as. See what I’m saying? They ain’t no junkies in the street. The hell you talking about, n—as? Then I said if you ain’t sucking dick in the parking lot, put your cellphone lighter up. You know what my gay fans did? Put that motherfucking light up, n—a, ’cause my gay fans ain’t going for that. They got class. They ain’t sucking no dick in no parking lot.” While he later issued an apology, he then turned around and dropped a music video that included him using “AIDS” in a lyric and also a visual that read “My apologies for being me the same way you want the freedom to be you.”

DaBaby Admits He Should Have Handled Things Differently But Doesn’t Denounce His Comments

Music professionals came out both in support of and opposition to DaBaby at the time of the controversy. While the likes of Boosie, T.I., and Nick Cannon defended the rapper, he was condemned by the likes of Dua Lipa, Demi Lovato, Elton John, QuestLove, and Madonna. DaBaby did eventually formally apologize on Instagram in early August, but fans noted that the apology was deleted less than a week later. Additionally, DaBaby was dropped from several festivals prior to his apology.

However, nearly two years later, DaBaby has once again spoken up about the controversy. Appearing on The Shop Uninterrupted, DaBaby was asked if he would handle the controversy differently if he could. “Absolutely,” DaBaby began, “That’s what came out my own mouth and said as of late, not even as of late, I would maybe handled it the way he handled it. I apologized but I didn’t mean to apologize because I’m this type of person. I’m gonna fight to the tooth and nail, like if I, you know what I mean? My character and my intentions – that’s something I am never going to let you make me out, I’m not a bad person. I’m unfaltering on that.” While it is a sign of change in the rapper’s mentality since 2021, his comments on The Shop weren’t exactly a denouncement of his hateful comments in 2021.

DaBaby Drops “Call Da Fireman” EP: Listen

DaBaby is possibly one of the most problematic rappers on the scene. However, he also has a very loyal fanbase and releases good music. Is this a case where he can be separated from his art? The rapper’s legal issues began back in 2018 when he was involved in a deadly altercation in a North Carolina Walmart. This was before he had even signed to a record label. Despite initially claiming self-defense, there are now doubts about the legitimacy of his story after security footage emerged. He was also sued by a concert promoter for assault in early 2020, resulting in his arrest. Although he denied the attack, the incident was caught on video.

In March 2020, he allegedly slapped a female fan while walking to the stage for a performance. He then made homophobic comments during his Rolling Loud set in July 2021 and collaborated with Tory Lanez after Megan Thee Stallion’s shooting. In February 2022, DaBaby and his entourage attacked DaniLeigh’s brother at a bowling alley. Unfortunately, this is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to DaBaby’s controversial behavior. He has yet to show remorse for most of his actions. Despite all of that, Da Baby continues to push through release music.

DaBaby Returns With Dance-Worthy EP

Now, DaBaby has returned with a new EP named Call Da Fireman. On it, DaBaby dips his toes into some dance beats. “SHAKE SUMN” is a banger that sounds like it will absolutely be playing in the club this weekend. It’s almost sure to start some sort of TikTok dance trend, as well. With the way the platform has taken off, it wouldn’t be a surprise if DaBaby made this song specifically with that in mind. “I don’t know how to dance but can lean,” he raps. “I make the ghetto b*tches put they hands on they knees.”

Call Da Fireman doesn’t have a lot of substance, but it’s a fun three-song EP. It’s definitely a good release to put out right before summer. However shady DaBaby’s past may be, his ability to create catchy tracks is undeniable. What do you think of the rapper’s new EP? Let us know in the comments below!

Tracklist:

  1. SHAKE SUMN
  2. GHETTO GIRLS>>>>
  3. SELLIN CRACK (Feat. Offset)

Sukihana Slams DaniLeigh’s “Yellowbone” Song: “You Thought [DaBaby] Was Leaving MeMe For You?”

If there’s one thing you can always count on Sukihana to be, it’s her raw, unfiltered self. The Love & Hip-Hop: Miami star is the latest guest to join Jason Lee on his REVOLT show. Like others before her, she certainly spilt plenty of tea. Not only did the rap diva confess that she and Yung Miami have similar bedroom preferences when it comes to golden showers, but she also told the host all about her in-depth thoughts on DaniLeigh’s 2021 “Yellow Bone” track, which previously found her in the midst of some serious controversy.

“I mean, I feel like, she just findin’ who she is,” Suki told Lee as a photo of the “Tasty” songstress appeared on the screen in front of them. “Like, maybe she thought she was different at one point. My thing is, you get pregnant, you’re a single mom. Welcome to the club,” she added, speaking on the daughter, Velour, that DaniLeigh shares with embattled rapper DaBaby. From the sounds of things, the 31-year-old takes issue with the dancer bragging about being with the “BOP” hitmaker thanks to her lighter complexion on the song, but being upset when landing in the same predicament he’s placed his other children’s mothers in after they give birth.

Sukihana Has Thoughts on DaniLeigh

“You said ‘Yellow Bone’ is what he wants,” Sukihana ranted. “First of all, all my sisters is yellow, I’m the dark skin one, but I feel like you did hurt our feelings.” Seeing as DaniLeigh has previously apologized for any pain her song may have caused, the reality star took a moment to thank her, and once again, welcome her to the single mom’s club. “What you thought? It was about to be different for you? Girl, you took somebody’s baby daddy! You thought you was finna have a baby and he would be faithful to you?” she asked the mother of one.

“No ma’am,” that’s not how it goes,” this week’s guest assured DL. “He’s gonna be faithful to who he wants to be faithful to. That’s how that go. You don’t just get the job! Maybe a seat filler. That man’s tryna figure out who he is. You thought he was gonna leave MeMe for your ass?” she asked, bringing DaBaby’s other co-parent into the chat. “Bitch, he finna go back to his baby mama. Give him a year, he love her. Chocolate is what he love.” Check out Sukihana’s full appearance on The Jason Lee Show below, and tap back in later for more pop culture news updates.

DaBaby Says He ‘Absolutely’ Wants to Collaborate with Megan Thee Stallion Again

DaBaby Targets Those Who Attempted to "Assassinate" His Career On Freestyle Over WizKid's "Essence"

DaBaby is hoping to bring his friendship and working relationship back with Megan Thee Stallion. TMZ caught up with the rapper as he was in Beverly Hills and revealed he was open to getting back on track with Thee Stallion.

“Absolutely, Meg,” DaBaby said. “We are cooler than a fan.”

As far as Tory Lanez, DaBaby said it’s hard to speak with him these days.

DaBaby also revealed that new music would be coming at the end of the month.

DaBaby being back cool with Megan Thee Stallion would be a long way from this. You can hear it from DaBaby below.

DaBaby Wants To Work With Megan Thee Stallion Again, But Fans Are Telling Him To Knock It Off

If there was a hall of fame for the biggest bag fumbles in entertainment, DaBaby would certainly breeze into it as a first-ballot entry. After blowing up in a massive way in 2019 with his album Baby On Baby, he quickly became one of the most recognizable stars in rap, racking up a slew of Billboard hits on the way, including a feature on Megan Thee Stallion’s “Cash Sh*t” from her 2019 EP Fever.

Then, he blew it, first by siding with her attacker Tory Lanez after she claimed Lanez shot her, bringing out the Canadian rapper during his Rolling Loud set in 2021 (just after Megan herself left the stage), then by making some homophobic comments onstage in that same set. The true bag fumble, though, was in his refusal to acknowledge his wrongdoing, only begrudgingly issuing halfhearted apologies like a recalcitrant pre-teen; you could feel the insincerity oozing through your device screens.

Since then, his fortunes have fallen to the point he more regularly makes headlines for failing to sell tickets to his shows than for any successes he achieves. Even lions, as a collective, seemingly don’t f*ck with him anymore.

That didn’t stop him from making yet another bid to return to the public’s good graces — this time; by telling TMZ that he’s still cool with Megan Thee Stallion and inviting her to collaborate with him again.

This seems an unlikely outcome; at his lowest point last summer, he tried to garner attention for his new album Baby On Baby 2 by courting controversy with “Boogeyman,” a tired single in which he claimed to have had sex with Meg days before her shooting. The headline play backfired, with fans censuring him for his poor taste and the album still only selling a paltry 16,000 album-equivalent units in the first week (compared to the 124,000 of its predecessor).

Fans weren’t too happy to hear him still trying to ride Megan’s coattails. Twitter users dragged the North Carolina rapper like Linus’ blanket, pointing out what should be obvious: that he has effectively burned that particular bridge and has no one to blame but himself now that his career is sinking like a stone in the river below. I guess it isn’t all water under the bridge.

Will Megan Thee Stallion Forgive DaBaby? Rapper Claims No Ill Feelings Amidst Public Fallout

DaBaby

The ongoing feud between DaBaby and Megan Thee Stallion has been a hot topic in the music industry. Recently, DaBaby opened up about the situation, claiming that he holds no grudges toward Megan. With talks of a possible collaboration on the horizon, many may wonder if Megan will be willing to forgive and forget or […]

DaBaby Wants To Collab With Megan Thee Stallion Again

It looks like DaBaby has no issues with Megan Thee Stallion or Tory Lanez. During a recent run-in with TMZ, the reporter asked the North Carolina rapper if he would be open to working with Meg again. As you might recall, the two formed an incredible working relationship during their break-out year. However, things between them crumbled shortly after she was shot. “Would I do a collab with Meg Thee Stallion? Absolutely,” he said. “Yeah, you know I’ll do a new song with ya.” When asked where they stand these days, he said, “We’re cooler than a fan baby.”

Afterward, the reporter pressed DaBaby about his stance with Tory Lanez, who is currently locked up after he was found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion. The rapper said that he hasn’t talked to Tory but similar to Meg, they’re “cooler than a fan.” Ultimately, DaBaby explained that he’s trying to spread love and positivity to everyone. Afterward, he announced new music is dropping at the end of the month. It sounds like DaBaby might be trolling or doing some sort of damage control.

DaBaby Chose Sides

DaBaby seemingly chose sides during the Megan Thee Stallion vs. Tory Lanez debacle shortly after the Canadian rapper’s arrest. DaBaby not only released his collaboration with Tory “SKAT,” but brought him out to perform the record at Rolling Loud. What’s worse is that it happened moments before Megan Thee Stallion was scheduled to hit the stage. That was also the same night that led to DaBaby’s downfall after he was accused of homophobia for his call-and-response during the show.

Unfortunately, that’s hardly the last of the friction between Megan Thee Stallion and DaBaby. Just before Tory’s trial, DaBaby released his project Baby On Baby 2. On “Boogeyman,” the rapper alleged that he and Megan Thee Stallion slept together. “The day before she said that Tory Lanez shot her, I was f**kin on Megan Thee Stallion,” he rapped. “Waited to say that sh*t on my next album/Hit it the day before too/But I kept it player, I ain’t say nothing ’bout it.” Meg later responded at one of her concerts while DaBaby stated that people “can take it how they wanna to take it.” Check out DaBaby’s recent run-in with TMZ above.

DaBaby Accused Of Withholding Evidence In Assault Case

DaBaby just can’t seem to catch a break. In recent years, his music career has been extremely overshadowed by his legal troubles and personal drama. His issues started before he was even signed to a label, but they seem to have gotten worse and worse since. Recently, the rapper has been embroiled in a legal battle with a property manager. In 2020, DaBaby rented a house in Los Angeles. The property manager was not made aware that the rapper was planning to film a video at the house. As this was not allowed, the manager attempted to enforce the rules of the rental. That is when DaBaby allegedly assaulted him.

Now, the property manager’s legal team is claiming that DaBaby and his legal team are withholding evidence. Namely, they say that the rapper has videos and photos of the incident that he is refusing to produce in court. DaBaby is dealing with both a civil and a criminal trial in regard to the incident. In the civil suit, the property manager is seeking $2 million from the rapper. DaBaby’s legal team says that they will not be producing any of the supposed evidence until after he testifies in the criminal trial.

DaBaby’s Controversies: A Timeline

DaBaby’s legal battles started in 2018, before he had even signed to a record label. The rapper was involved in an altercation in a North Carolina Walmart that led to him killing a teenager. At the time, he claimed self-defense and what police saw on the security footage corroborated his story. However, the footage has since emerged, and people question whether or not it really was self-defense. In early 2020, DaBaby was sued by a concert promoter after the rapper assaulted him. He went to jail for the attack but has since denied the incident took place. However, the entire thing is on video.

In March 2020, the rapper allegedly slapped a female fan on the way to the stage for a performance. Then, in July 2021, he made some extremely homophobic comments during his Rolling Loud set. Additionally, he also collaborated with Tory Lanez after the Megan Thee Stallion shooting. In February 2022, DaBaby and his entourage attacked DaniLeigh’s brother at a bowling alley. Sadly, the events listed here only scratch the surface of the rapper’s horrible behavior. Even worse, DaBaby remains unapologetic for almost every controversy, assault, and murder that he’s been involved in. What do you think about the newest allegations? Let us know in the comments.

DaBaby Shares A Snippet Of TikTok Worthy New Track

DaBaby may have had a fall from grace, but that hasn’t stopped him from putting out new music. In September, he released his album “Baby On Baby 2” to limited fanfare. In fact, the album sold 86 percent less than his heavily praised “Blame It on Baby” in 2020. That project debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, spawning the hit “Rockstar.” Unfortunately, since his now infamous homophobic Rolling Loud rant and overnight falling out with Megan Thee Stallion, DaBaby’s career is much quieter these days. However, he is pushing forward with forthcoming releases, previewing a snippet that sounds like a TikTok God-send.

Over the weekend, DaBaby shared a video showing himself enjoying some Easter family time. In the clip, several kiddos groove to an unreleased record from DaBaby. The kids moved around the living room in a way that felt like a new internet dance challenge waiting to happen. “Call the fireman; she a hot girl. Put her out. Ooh, I just broke a sweat in this b*tch; get a towel,” DaBaby raps over the fast-paced beat.

DaBaby Has Released Several Singles Recently

At first listen, the snippet sounds like a cross between Miami Bass and something concocted by the geniuses behind Lil Uzi Vert’s “Just Wanna Rock.” While poised to be a twerk anthem, it’s unclear if this record will ever see the light of day. What’s also unknown is who may have produced such a lively record. TikTok-friendly sounds may be a wise direction for the 31-year-old as he struggles to return to the top spot. In March, he debuted a song titled “Blank” alongside R&B icon Anthony Hamilton, though it didn’t make much noise.

Controversies have overshadowed the momentum he spent the past five years building. His first album was 2019’s “Baby on Baby.” This record solidified his position in hip-hop, filled with quick punchlines and fun visuals for several singles, including “Suge.” As one of his biggest hits, “Suge,” surged to number 7 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. This became his first chart entry. Hopefully, DaBaby can reclaim the hearts of the masses, even if the possibilities appear grim.
