Young Dolph’s Convicted Killer Shares Cryptic Message About Snitching After Receiving Life Sentence

Yesterday (September 26), the Young Dolph murder trial reached a verdict, and 25-year-old Justin Johnson was found guilty. He was handed a life sentence on the spot for alleged first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, and felon in possession of a firearm. For now, the fate of his co-defendants Hernandez Govan and Cornelius Smith remains to be seen. They are also facing first-degree murder charges.

Recently, Johnson shared a message concerning his life sentence on his Instagram Story. “These n****s taking criminal responsibility I’m taking street responsibility regardless,” he wrote. “I’m foreva the biggest they can throw away the keys before I ever eat da cheese.” This appears to be a jab at Smith, who testified against him earlier this week.

Justin Johnson Claims He’s “Taking Street Responsibility”

Smith previously admitted to firing the shots that killed Young Dolph, alleging that Yo Gotti’s brother Big Jook had put out a $100K hit on the rapper. He alleged that he met with him and Hernandez Govan, who’s accused of being the “mastermind” behind the shooting. At that point, he alleges that he was paired with Johnson for the shooting. Govan didn’t take the stand despite being expected to testify against Johnson.

Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy had a vague explanation for this when speaking to reporters this week. “I don’t want to go into too much detail,” he said. “But not every potential witness that we might have is necessary in a case. It’s not always necessary to bring everything you have to bear in order to prove everything beyond a reasonable doubt.” Luke Evans, Johnson’s lawyer, speculates that he didn’t take the stand because his testimony wouldn’t have favored the prosecution. Slim 400’s Killer Receives Lengthy Prison Sentence

Michael Terry, the 35-year-old man convicted in the death of Slim 400, will officially spend the next 32 years in a California state prison after receiving his sentencing on Tuesday. Judge Altus Hudsonto announced the sentencing after Terry pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the case. Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón later released a statement to the family of Slim 400. In the message, he reflected on the tragedy of gun violence in the community.

“Our hearts go out to the families of Mr. Cohran, an artist in the Los Angeles community who was taken far too soon by a tragic act of gun violence,” Gascón wrote. “Our Community Violence Reduction Unit vigorously prosecutes gun violence to protect our communities. Gun violence has no place in our society, and we will continue to work closely with communities we serve to help prevent these senseless crimes.”

Jonathan Majors Delivers Emotional Speech At The Impact Awards After Domestic Violence Conviction

The Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards took place on Friday night (June 21) in Beverly Hills, and one of its biggest moments was the culmination of a long, difficult, but necessary journey. Jonathan Majors received the “Perseverance Award” at the ceremony and gave a 15-minute-ish-long speech on what his mindset is like following his domestic assault and harassment conviction last year. Of course, this “perseverance” doesn’t excuse the actor’s actions, but it does point to him learning from his mistakes, getting another chance at his career, and moving onto better times in his life. Hopefully this accountability, personal healing process, and honesty gives him the fulfillment and peace he needs.

“I’m imperfect,” Jonathan Majors expressed tearfully at the event. “I have shortcomings, I acknowledge them. Perseverance means what? Perseverance means persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay. And the God I serve has put me in a position where I’ve had to embody that word more than I wished or wanted. We live in a world [that props up] men, Black men in particular… as either superheroes or supervillains. But I’ve come to realize, me, personally, I ain’t none of that… I’m just that guy whose faith has been tested. It has been strengthened by this testimony.”

Jonathan Majors’ Full Impact Awards Speech

Jonathan Majors did not receive a prison sentence for his domestic assault and harassment conviction, but the court ordered him to participate in domestic violence counseling for a year. It’s unclear what the rest of his legal trajectory will look like, as he also faced another lawsuit connected to the incident recently. This whole scandal became a hot topic of debate on social media, and not even its resolved sentence could quell that fire. Perhaps this just became the final domino to fall on that path.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Majors received his first role since this debacle recently, landing a role in Martin Villenueve’s new revenge thriller Merciless. Surely the film will inspire parallels between it and his case, even where there are none to find. Either way, we look forward to seeing what happens next, not just to set precedent for future situations like these but to see a full change of heart and behavior. After all, these complex paths can lead to better outcomes despite what folks suffered to achieve them that should’ve never happened in the first place.

Jonathan Majors Secures First Major Film Role After Assault Conviction

Late last year, Jonathan Majors was found guilty of assaulting and harassing his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. Regardless, the actor doesn’t look to be letting his conviction get in the way of his career. Recently, it was revealed that he’ll be starring in an upcoming supernatural thriller film, which will be his first role following his highly publicized trial.

Reportedly, he’s been cast as a CIA investigator who begins to struggle with mental health issues as his love interest is targeted by mysterious forces. The film, titled Merciless, does not yet have an official release date. It’s not been attached to a major studio yet either. It’s being directed by Martin Villeneuve, however, the younger sibling of Oscar-nominated director Denis Villeneuve.

Sound of Freedom‘s Christopher Tuffin will produce the upcoming indie film. He reportedly plans to share more details of the project at the Toronto International Film Festival later this year. Filming is expected to begin this fall, so it’s not looking like it’ll arrive anytime soon. Other cast members have also yet to be announced. Majors’ conviction is likely to stir up some controversy at the heels of his conviction, though it doesn’t appear as though Tuffin will let that stop him from working with whoever he sees fit for the role.

As for Majors’ current legal issues, he’s now facing a lawsuit from Jabbari, the same ex he was on trial for allegedly assaulting. His motion to drop his assault and harassment charges was also denied back in April. What do you think of Jonathan Majors snagging his first film role since his assault trial? Are you looking forward to seeing Merciless or not? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Plies Breaks His Silence On Donald Trump’s Conviction

Plies is one of Donald Trump’s most outspoken celebrity haters, so it’s no surprise he had some harsh words for the former president’s conviction in his hush money case. “Dear Black Folks:” the rapper’s message began on Twitter, which he then reposted on Instagram. “If U Want Lawmakers To Change The Law About Convicted Felons Being Able To Run For President. I’m About To Tell Everyone How To Fix It! All African Americans Convicted Felons Let’s Start Signing Up For Elections & Running! An Watch How Fast They Change That Law!” “It’s Not Hard To Fix!!!! [shrug emoji] #Plies,” the IG caption read.

Furthermore, Plies is far from the first person in the rap world to react to Donald Trump’s guilty verdict in one of a couple of his blockbuster court cases. For example, Ice-T also had some scathing shots for both No. 45 and his angry supporters, taking to Twitter to troll them a little bit. However, even those who make fun of Trump seem skeptical concerning his chances of actually doing jail time. After all, if the one thing he wasn’t able to sidestep was over hush money, that wouldn’t really make much sense.

Plies Reacts To Trump’s Guilty Verdict

Regardless, others like 50 Cent gleefully mocked the former president over this, whether for giggles or with an actual policy disagreement. It’s been very interesting to see how hip-hop received, treated, and evolved the image of Donald Trump in the culture, whether on wax or publicly. Things used to be way less serious about this before he became president, and some artists shifted their content to blast or endorse him. But if there’s anyone who’s been on the opposing side for the long run, it’s Plies.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump also has his fair share of endorsements and support within the rap game, such as a recent co-sign from New York drill exponents Sleepy Hallow and Sheff G. We’ll see how this continues to evolve as we get closer to the election. It already caused a lot of controversy and conversation, but that’s an expected consequence of political discourse. Maybe this conviction changes things for some people…

Ice T Responds To Donald Trump’s Conviction, Trolls Angry Supporters

Hip-hop is reacting swiftly to Donald Trump’s conviction in his hush money case, and we’re sure his place in rap is pretty staunchly criticized… right? Well, anyway, at least Ice-T kept it short and simple with his response to the guilty verdict, and he also took some time to respond to some angry supporters of No. 45 who took issue with his jest. First, he posted a picture of a jail with one of the watch towers labeled as “Trump Tower” with the caption “The Internet is undefeated. But I doubt he ever does a day inside… Cold Game.” “Damn Ice. Looks like you picked your side,” one fan replied.

“I NEVER EVER liked dude… Criminals can spot Criminals,” Ice-T responded. “Has Ice t been to epstien [sic] island? [thinking face emoji],” another user clapped back, seemingly insinuating that his dislike of Donald Trump indicates his allegiance to the Illuminati or something like that. Conspiracy heads can fix that in the comments section down below. “Nope.. But I’ve been to your Mother’s house,” the Newark native retorted. It’s similar to how 50 Cent chose to clown Trump supporters for their anger over the verdict.

Ice-T Trolls Trump & His Fans

But we know that Ice-T is prone to giving out hot takes on pretty much anything, especially the massive rap beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake that recently went down. “I’m sorry if I’m not interested in current Rap Beef or random Male Gossip…” he tweeted. “I’m a HUSTLER, I’m only focused on the Bag [money bag emoji].” Furthermore, this take surprised some fans, especially, considering the rapper and actor’s rap feuds with the likes of LL Cool J. But maturity makes everything 20/20 in hindsight, and we doubt that we won’t come to understand this perspective in our older age.

Meanwhile, Ice-T’s take on Lenny Kravitz’s celibacy also garnered backlash online. “Hey…If you’re a guy and you can voluntarily go 9yrs without sex… you’re following the wrong page,” he tweeted recently. “s**t’s weird to me. I love to f**k… A lot.” Maybe the Law & Order: SVU staple should’ve kept that last one in the drafts…

Harvey Weinstein Hospitalized After Overturning Of Rape Conviction: “He’s Somewhat Of A Train Wreck Health Wise”

Harvey Weinstein has reportedly been hospitalized after being examined by doctors upon his arrival at Rikers Island in New York City on Friday. His transport comes after the overturning of his 2020 rape conviction in an appeals court on Thursday. The film industry mogul’s attorney, Arthur Aidala, confirmed that his client is undergoing testing at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan.

“They examined him and sent him to Bellevue. It seems like he needs a lot of help, physically. He’s got a lot of problems, he’s getting all kinds of tests. He’s somewhat of a train wreck health wise,” Aidala said, as noted by the Associated Press. He also claimed that Weinstein is still as strong as ever mentally. Aidala further explained that it can take state corrections and prisons officials up to two weeks to transport a prisoner. “He was not treated well. They refused to give him even a sip of water, no food, no bathroom break,” he said. “He’s a 72-year-old sickly man.”

Harvey Weinstein’s Lawyer Speaks With The Press

Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein’s lawyer, Arthur Aidala, speaks to the press on April 25, 2024, in New York City. New York’s highest court on April 25 overturned Weinstein’s 2020 conviction on sex crime charges, a shock reversal in one of the defining cases of the #MeToo movement. In their 4-3 decision, Court of Appeal judges cited errors in the trial, including admitting the testimony of women who were not part of the charges against him. A judge previously sentenced Weinstein to 23 years in prison after the initial trial. Following the court’s decision on Thursday, however, he will now get a chance at a new trial. He and his legal team argued that the original trial permitted jurors to hear too much evidence not directly related to the specific charges for which he was on trial. Emily Tuttle, a spokesperson for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, told Reuters: “We will do everything in our power to retry this case and remain steadfast in our commitment to survivors of sexual assault.”

Despite the news, Weinstein is still serving a 16-year prison sentence stemming from a conviction for rape in California in 2022. He has maintained his innocence over the years. Be on the lookout for further updates on Harvey Weinstein on HotNewHipHop.

R Kelly’s Child Pornography Conviction & Sentence Upheld In Chicago Court

In February of last year, R Kelly was sentenced to 20 years behind bars for alleged sex crimes involving minors. 19 of the years were to be served concurrent with the sentence he was already serving. The year prior, he was handed 30 years for a federal racketeering conviction in New York. He’s since tried to appeal his conviction and 20-year sentence in Chicago, appearing in court today to learn his fate.

The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals shot down the appeal, upholding both his child pornography conviction and sentence. The news comes after the performer’s defense argued that the statute of limitations had passed in an attempt to get the conviction dropped. Clearly, the court wasn’t buying it, highlighting the “horrible, horrific” nature of his alleged crimes.

R Kelly To Remain Behind Bars

The court also referred to his 30-year sentence for alleged racketeering out of New York as the “elephant in the room,” claiming that the alleged child pornography sentence was determined with it in mind. Kelly’s currently in the process of appealing his New York conviction. If he wins the appeal, this likely means that he’ll still serve the remaining 18 years of his sentence out of Chicago.

“Our fight is not over,” R Kelly’s lawyer Jennifer Bonjean told TMZ following the decision. “We will see review from the USSC (SCOTUS) on the statute of limitations questions at a minimum. And he has habeas remedies at his disposal. And if we win in NY. He will be entitled to resentencing in Illinois. So this story is far from over.” What do you think of R Kelly’s conviction being upheld? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Jussie Smollett To Appeal Staged Hate Crime Conviction In Illinois Supreme Court

Back in 2021, California-born actor Jussie Smollett was convicted of five counts of disorderly conduct. He was charged for accusing two men of attacking him in Chicago, which was later found to be a hoax. Now, Smollett will have an opportunity to plead his case before the Illinois Supreme Court in an attempt to get his conviction overturned.

Smollett has previously argued that he shouldn’t face further prosecution after Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx dropped his case. Following his conviction, he was sentenced to 150 days behind bars. He served only six days in jail before being released. He was additionally ordered to pay the city $120K in restitution, a $25K fine, and serve 30 months of probation. The scandal also cost him his role in Empire.

Smollett has maintained his innocence since allegedly staging the hate crime alongside two former Empire extras, Ola and Bola Osundairo. He’s been accused of orchestrating the 2019 hoax in an effort to bolster his career in entertainment. In December of 2023, a panel of three judges voted 2-1 to uphold Smollett’s conviction in an Illinois appeals court. This meant that Smollett would have to serve the remainder of his 150-day sentence or bring his appeal to the Illinois Supreme Court.

Jussie Smollett’s name was most recently thrust back into headlines when Scottie Beam slammed Joe Budden for his controversial takes on the actor. She accused him of giving her a hard time for refusing to call him a “fa**ot” before having “all the info.” What do you think of Jussie Smollett maintaining his innocence? What about the actor being allowed to plead his case before the Illinois Supreme Court? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Jonathan Majors Tearfully Reflects On Assault Conviction In ABC Interview Trailer

Last month, Jonathan Majors was found guilty of assaulting his ex, Grace Jabbari. The California native’s career has taken a major hit since the verdict was announced. In December, Marvel confirmed their decision to cut ties with him. He’s currently awaiting sentencing, which is set to take place on February 6. Majors could be looking at up to a year behind bars.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that the Emmy-nominated actor will be sitting down with ABC‘s Linsey Davis on Good Morning America for his first post-trial interview. In a new trailer, Majors grows emotional as he reflects on being convicted of reckless assault. “It’s been hard,” he says, wiping tears from his eyes. “Do you think you’ll ever work in Hollywood again? Jonathan Majors Gets Emotional In New Interview Trailer

The trailer cut off there, and viewers will have to wait for the full interview to drop on Monday to hear his response. According to his attorney, Priya Chaudhry, Majors “looks forward to fully clearing his name.” In a statement to NBC News, she explained that jurors weren’t convinced that he intentionally hurt Jabbari during their NYC spat. In security footage from the incident, Majors is seen pushing Jabbari into an SUV during an argument.

“It is clear that the jury did not believe Grace Jabbari’s story of what happened in the SUV because they found that Mr. Majors did not intentionally cause any injuries to her. We are grateful for that,” Chaudhry said. “We are disappointed, however, that despite not believing Ms. Jabbari, the jury nevertheless found that Mr. Majors was somehow reckless while she was attacking him.” What do you think of Jonathan Majors getting emotional while reflecting on being convicted of assault?
