Tommy Richman, Paco, & Jonah Roy Collide For Spooky “GHOULS N GHOSTS”

While we specialize in covering artists that in hip-hop and R&B, it is always a fun time covering talents that blur the lines between the two. Case and point, Tommy Richman. He is a resident of Virginia and he really is a unique case. However, he embraces the fact that he does not pigeonhole himself to one genre. In a chat with Lyrical Lemonade, he explains how he likes to create music. “Honestly man, I just try to make cool s*** for people but more so for me. It’s not about the gimmicks or cliches for me.”

Tommy continues, “I wanna make stuff that’s palatable and listenable but also just s*** I like and am interested in.” That is when the interviewer dug a little deeper and questioned him about how he wants the listener to feel. “I personally think this is a silly question. I don’t really care what people think about it. People can feel however they want – if they think it’s cool then great and if they don’t, f*** it!”

The multi-talent goes on, “I make the music that I feel and connect with and if it connects with someone else, then great.” That is the case for his new song “GHOULS N GHOSTS” with a feature from Paco and production from Jonah Roy. It seems its connecting with listeners as each performer fits nicely over the Luigi’s Mansion-esque beat. The song has a similar melody that you might hear on a Brent Faiyaz song. Which makes sense considering Tommy had some placements on his recent LP.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “GHOULS N GHOSTS,” by Tommy Richman, Paco, and Jonah Roy? Is this one of the best tracks Tommy has ever made, why or why not? What is your favorite element of the song and why? Would you like to see him drop a new project sometime this year? Who had the more memorable performance? ScHoolboy Q & Ab-Soul Have A Fan-Favorite With “Foux”

ScHoolboy Q has finally given us BLUE LIPS and we are very pleased to say that it has delivered and then some. The California rapper almost always seems to be at his peak when he experiments with instrumentals, cadences, lyrics, and flows. Q does that throughout the duration of the LP and you can definitely tell five years were needed to craft this body of work. While it may not be for everyone, there is no doubt that this project was worth the wait. One highlight we had to cover is ScHoolboy Q and Ab-Soul’s “Foux.”

This one of the more introspective cuts here, as it sees each TDE talent dealing with internal struggles. Q’s hook is infectious but also quite gloomy. He quickly raps over the scattering drum patterns, howling background vocals, and somber piano keys. Incredibly, outside of some Black Hippy cuts, this the first time we have heard Q and Ab-Soul on a song together since 2012 with “Druggys Wit H**s Again.”

Listen To “Foux” By ScHoolboy Q & Ab-Soul

In fact, ScHoolboy references the first of those two songs, “Druggy’s Wit H**s.” That landed on his debut, Setbacks, and you can hear the callback on the bridge. Ab-Soul does not disappoint either. “Shot for the moon, now I need my gat
Cocaine is a hell of a drug / And my year been Heaven above / But ’nuff is just never enough / I’m stuck when I should be levelin’ up
.”

What are your thoughts on this brand-new song, “Foux,” by ScHoolboy Q? Is this the best track from BLUE LIPS, why or why not? What is your favorite element of the song and why? Is this the album of the year so far, why or why not? Who had the stronger performance? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. DaeMoney Nabs LUCKI & Veeze For Dreamy “JAPANESE DENIM”

Veeze and LUCKI have been tearing things up lately in the rap game. Their idiosyncratic and mumbly styles have captivated fans as their legends continue to grow. However, there is another kid on the block that is starting to earn his stripes similar to these two. That artist goes by DaeMoney and like Veeze, he also hails from the blue-collar city of Detroit. Today, he makes his debut on the site and what better way than to do it by collaborating with the aforementioned stars. Additionally, DaeMoney’s “JAPANESE DENIM” lands on his new album.

This is not the first time that Dae and Veeze have worked together. You can also check out tracks such as “Gta,” which also has LUCKI, “Who Is That?” and “Fingers Crossed.” DaeMoney’s “JAPANESE DENIM” is a whimsical and hazy cut that sees each rapper flexing. If you are not familiar, Japenese-stitched denim is very expensive due to the way its made on top of the high-end materials used.

Teezo Touchdown Cover Talking Heads’ “Making Flippy Floppy” For A24

Teezo Touchdown has quickly become one of the most sought after multi-hyphenates in the music industry. We primarly cover him when it pertains to hip-hop crossovers. However, this instance is for something totally different. After nabbing a big time placement on Lyrical Lemonade and Cole Bennett’s debut tape All is Yellow, the Texan is now assisting an indie film company with a soundtrack. That brand is A24, who in the latter half of last year got the chance to re-release the Talking Heads’ independent 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense. Teezo Touchdown is one of the artists that is going to be featured on the soundtrack as he covers Talking Heads’ “Making Flippy Floppy.”

According to Uproxx, alt rock band Paramore were the first to cover a track from the 1983 record Speaking In Tongues. They remade “Burning Down the House,” and now Teezo is the second artist to make the cut. The 40th anniversary remaster of the film hit theaters on September 22. However, the accompanying project of covers is still awaiting a release date.

However, we do have the name of the project, which is Everyone’s Getting Involved: A Stop Making Sense Tribute Album. The Talking Heads and Teezo Touchdown are honestly a mirroring image of each other. Both are extremely unconventional artists which makes things conventional in that sense. Teezo’s wild and entertaining voice steal the show and it would making Talking Heads proud.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Making Flippy Floppy,” by Teezo Touchdown? Is he the best genre-bending hip-hop adjacent artist out right now, why or why not? What was your favorite element of the song and why? Should he do more Talking Heads covers? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Erick Sermon Says Kanye West’s Next Solo Album Will Be A Return To The Old Ye

Erick Sermon says that he worked with Kanye West on new music in Florence, Italy, last year, and the songs the rapper was putting together sounded like the old Kanye. Reflecting on the experience during an interview with HipHopDX, Sermon explained that the tracks were separate from Ye’s work with Ty Dolla Sign on Vultures and instead, for an upcoming solo effort.

“The record I was working on wasn’t what him and Ty Dolla Sign was doing at the time,” Sermon recalled. “I was working on Y3, Ye’s solo album […] Hopefully, we can finish what we started, y’know, ’cause I had him on Hip Hop. I was like, ‘You got to rhyme and we have to do the stuff that you used to do ’cause you ill at that,’ y’know? And he listened […] I had [the old Kanye] back.”

He shared the first installment independently on February 10. It features collaborations with Freddie Gibbs, YG, Quavo, Playboi Carti, Travis Scott, his own daughter, North, and several more artists. It debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200, marking the rapper’s 11th consecutive album to do so. West has said he intends to drop the second and third installments of the trilogy on March 8 and April 5. Check out Sermon’s interview with HipHopDX below.

Pharrell Teases Miley Cyrus Collaboration

Pharrell is working with Miley Cyrus on a new collaboration that he teased on his Instagram on Friday. Mentioning that the track would be coming “soon,” he previewed a portion of the singer’s verse. “I could be your doctor and I could be your nurse/ I think I see the problem, it’s only gon’ get worse/ I need my medication just show me where it hurts/ I need to rock you baby before your body burns,” Cyrus sings.

“Doctor” isn’t the first time Pharrell and Cyrus have collaborated with one another over the years. In addition to Pharrell producing several of her songs on Bangerz, Cyrus also lent her voice to the GIRL track, ”Come Get It Bae” in 2014. “I have this theory about Disney artists: They have the best work ethic ever,” Pharrell told The Hollywood Reporter in 2013. “She had inquired about working with me, but I had inquired about looking for her—we found each other at the same time.”

Megan Thee Stallion Drops New Nike Collab “Hot Girl Systems”

Megan Thee Stallion is on top of the world right now. Last month, she released her hard-hitting new single “HISS” which immediately shot to the number one spot on the Hot 100. After three weeks on the charts the lethal track is still hovering in the top 20. Perhaps just as important, it’s massively outperforming “Big Foot,” the song Nicki Minaj recorded in response to “HISS.” Though the beef spilled into the weeks following both songs it seems to have mostly fizzled out since then.

Now, Megan Thee Stallion is shifting her focus away from new music and into the world of fashion. She’s collaborating with Nike on a new line of activewear called “Hot Girl Systems.” Much of the clothing in the collection is available from Megan’s own website. Included in the collection are multiple cropped tees, a bomber jacket, a body suit, sports bras, and biker shorts. The distinct looking pieces are already beginning to sell out from her website but they aren’t even the only pieces available. On Nike’s own website two new color variants of the Air Max 97’s called “Hot Girl” and “Something For Thee Hotties” were listed earlier today. Check out the full collection below.

Many fans are hoping that Megan drops a new album this year. Her last project Traumazine dropped back in 2022. She led off her potential new era last year when she dropped “COBRA” which many similarly described as a diss track, though that one was aimed at her ex-boyfriend Pardison Fontaine. Ice Spice Wins At The 2024 People’s Choice Awards With New Artist Of The Year

The people have spoken at the 2024 People’s Choice Awards, and Ice Spice is their New Artist of the Year. During her acceptance speech at the ceremony on Sunday (February 18) in California, she thanked her fans for their ardent support. “Thank you, I wasn’t nervous until right now, but,” the 24-year-old said with a laugh. “Thank you so much! You know, this award means so much to me because it’s fan voted, and I love my fans. I wanna give a big thank you to my baby sister watching at home. Sienna, I love you so much. And I wanna thank my beautiful team, thank you so much to my manager, my producer, my label.

“Shoutout to all the brands I’ve collab’d with in the last year or so,” Ice Spice continued. “And shoutout to all the other nominees in this category. You guys are amazing and talented. Thank you so much!” What’s more is that she also had other reasons to celebrate her fellow celebrities’ awards recently. The Bronx hitmaker shouted out someone from her hometown, good friend Kai Cenat, for winning a streaming award.

Ice Spice Wins New Artist Of The Year At The 2024 PCAs: Watch Her Acceptance Speech

However, that’s not what Ice Spice is making a lot of noise for at the moment, and what might define the rest of her 2024. She’s currently embroiled in a cold war beef with Latto, for which the only thing left to do for either artist is to call them out directly. Sure, they’ve already alluded to each other multiple times and given out subliminal disses, plus their fanbases are going at it heavily on social media. But maybe an old-fashioned rap battle and hit-for-hit is what they need to gain each other’s respect as competitors.

Meanwhile, the “Think U The S**t (Fart)” MC recently met up with Spike Lee, and fans think that they could have something planned for the future. A music video, a movie, a TV ad, something beyond what either’s typically known for… who knows? All we know is that it’s exciting to witness. 50 Cent Wishes Dr. Dre A Happy Birthday & Teases “New Heat”

50 Cent celebrated Dr. Dre’s 59th birthday on Instagram, on Sunday, and teased having “new heat” on the way with the legendary producer. “Happy Birthday to my boy Dre, we got some New Heat coming. @bransoncognac @lecheminduroi,” he captioned an old photo of the two of them.

While many fans expressed excitement at the idea of new music, plenty of users were pessimistic about the timeline for a release. “Hopefully it doesn’t take a decade to release something,” one follower commented. “He was working on Detox when that photo was taken. Still working on it,” another joked.

Back in 2023, he made a similar proclamation about new music from the two during an interview with Big Boy’s Neighborhood. “As soon as I said that, I got a text from [Eminem] that he had already spoke to Dre, and that Dre is in there and he got some cr*zy stuff for me to go hear,” he said at the time. “This is my process: I’ll go make something, what I can find, the best music that I can put my hands on. And when I feel real good about it, I bring it to put pressure on Dre to offer me something. ‘Cause he’ll have something… He’s always had something.” Check out 50’s latest post about new music below.

Playboi Carti tagged Pharrell on social media, amid rumors that the two are working on a collaboration. Taking to his Instagram Story on Sunday, Carti shared a clip of himself listening to the Rich Kidz song with Young Dro, “My Partna Dem.” He tagged Pharrell in the first post and later shared a screenshot of the legendary producer promoting “I Am Music.”

It’s not the first time the two have hinted at working together on social media either. Back in December, Pharrell similarly promoted, “I Am Music.” While neither has gone into details about what the project will be, Pharrell previously launched a “strategic consulting and creative collective” called “i am OTHER.”

While exact details of Carti’s next project remain unknown, he reflected on his recording process for the new music during an interview with Numéro Berlin in November. “I’ve been recording in Paris, I love Paris. Amazing,” he said at the time. “I was recording, in a cave, for like three months, and all the music that came out of that is just chaotic and crazy. Then, I’m in a glass house, somewhere in the hills, and the music there is just very good to the ears. And then, I’m in Atlanta and the tensions are just high and the music is biting. So, it’s the little things like that that keep me going, because I’m just trying to talk to myself.” Check out his teaser for working with Pharrell below.
