XV & WESTSIDE BOOGIE Are Puffing Their Chest Out On MIKE SUMMERS-Produced “CD-R”

XV is one of those rappers that does not seem to get enough credit. He is not a face of hip-hop, but that does not mean he is not super talented. The long-time MC hailing from Wichita, Kansas has always given listeners some fun and catchy bangers that sound good in the headphones. XV can bring the quick one-liners whenever he wants, adding to his contagious character. One track of his that has some recognition, but perhaps not enough of it, is “Awesome.” If anyone grew up playing the early 2010s NBA 2K video games that song made it onto the soundtrack.

XV even grabbed Pusha T for a version and it hits hard to this day. Hopping off the nostalgia train for a second, he is back with a new single. This one features production from MIKE SUMMERS, as well as a verse from the talented WESTSIDE BOOGIE. This is the first time we have seen these two MCs on one track and we might need more down the road.

Listen To “CD-R” By XV, MIKE SUMMERS, & WESTSIDE BOOGIE

“CD-R” is a braggadocious cut that makes a clever nod to burning songs onto CDs. XV refers to this in the chorus, saying that this song is so fire you will want to put it on a CD-R. The cover art takes a page out of the recent 1999 WRITE THE FUTURE singles with colorful discs. Be sure to give XV’s new one a listen, you will not regret it.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “CD-R,” by XV, MIKE SUMMERS, and WESTSIDE BOOGIE? Who had the better performance on the track and why? Does he need to drop a new album this year after hearing this? What is your favorite XV project and why? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. USHER & Pheelz Deliver Light & Rhythmic Soul Cut “Ruin”

USHER is making his long overdue return to music very, very soon. The iconic performer and seductive R&B singer will finally be releasing his first album since 2018. That was a mini eight-song LP with fellow Georgian producer Zaytoven called “A” that had features from Future and Gunna. If you are wondering when USHER put out his last solo effort, you would have to return to 2016 with Hard II Love.

While dropping your first album in nearly six years is very exciting, performing at the Super Bowl is another reason to be giddy. It is safe to say USHER is feeling that way based on all of his recent interviews. The ageless 45-year-old superstar’s next album will be called COMING HOME and will have 20 tracks. The tracklist, as well as the release date, which is February 9, is available to be seen on Apple Music.

Listen To “Ruin” By USHER & Pheelz

So far, USHER has put out three songs from the LP. Those include “Good Good” with Summer Walker and 21 Savage, the Jung Kook collaboration “Standing Next to You,” and “Risk It All” featuring H.E.R. That is being pulled from The Color Purple movie soundtrack. This latest single is called “Ruin” and brings along Nigerian Afropop/Afrobeats artist and producer Pheelz. He takes the reigns on the beat and adds a verse. Both sing beautifully about a lover that is slowly draining them of their energy. The instrumental mixes elements of soul, R&B, and Pheelz native sounds of African music. It all comes together very well, so be sure to check it out.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new song, “Ruin,” by USHER and Pheelz? Is this the best single from his forthcoming record COMING HOME, why or why not? Will this be a top-tier project in his discography? Are you excited about the LP? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. Benny The Butcher & Snoop Dogg Mix East & West Coast Sounds On “Back Again”

Benny The Butcher is someone you can almost always count on to put out a fantastic listen front to back. The edgy Buffalo wordsmith has been in the game for a hot minute but has more or less blown up fairly recently. Part of that reason could be because he inked a deal with Def Jam not too long ago. But, let us be real with ourselves for a second. His lyricism, the ability to craft interesting and intricate flows, as well as his ear for good production, have brought him to this moment right here.

That moment we are talking about is his brand-new album, Everybody Can’t Go. The trim 12-track project features production heavily from legends Hit-Boy and The Alchemist. You will also find Lil Wayne, his Griselda mates Conway the Machine and Westside Gunn, and plenty more. One track that has been a go-to for us and others is “Back Again” with Snoop Dogg.

Listen To “Back Again” By Benny The Butcher & Snoop Dogg

Surprisingly, this is not their first collaboration. Back in November 2021, they, along with Jadakiss and Busta Rhymes, came together for a haunting single “Murder Music.” “Back Again” is an effortless synergy of West meets East. Benny brings some of his best writing in a song that talks about focusing on staying on course toward your goals. Snoop kills the chorus and the beat from Hit-Boy adds elements of East Coast boom-bap and sirens that are so prevalent in G-Funk and gangsta rap from the West. You can check out the killer visuals and music in the music video above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new song, “Back Again,” by Benny The Butcher and Snoop Dogg? Is this the best track from Everybody Can’t Go, why or why not? Is this the greatest album he has ever put out? Does this have the potential to be the album of the year, why or why not? What tracks are you gravitating toward so far? Heems Returns With Saul Williams And Lapgan For “Accent,” The Lead Single To His Upcoming Project

New York has so many corners of hip-hop, with underground being one of its most prevalent. That is where Punjabi-American rapper Heems has resided for his career. Overall, he has not been extremely active. He has delivered a decent string of singles over the past year as far as Heems’ standards are concerned. But, the last full-length tape we got from him came back in 2015 with Eat Pray Thug.

However, that is all changing after almost nine (!) years. Heems will be dropping a collaboration album with Indian-American producer Lapgan. The tape will be titled LAFANDAR and is due to be released on Friday, February 16. It will be an offering from Heems’ label Veena Sounds which is another exciting project of his.

Fabolous And Trey Songz Deliver Passionate Performances Over A Drake Beat On “You Did Me Wrong”

Fabolous is one of a few rappers and or hip-hop adjacent artists to be delivering tracks on a consistent basis. Bryson Tiller is also someone on this trend with “Tiller Tuesdays.” However, the veteran lyricist from New York is going by it by releasing freestyles, mainly over other popular songs. Tiller on the other hand is releasing more original material. So far, Fabolous has not skipped a beat on any of the releases, but that should be a surprise.

As we mentioned, he has been doing this at a high level for a long time. He has consistently proven he has plenty left in the tank. Fabolous’ most recent effort was his “Snooze Freestyle.” When you check out that track you will come to notice he uses the sped-up version of SZA’s viral hit from SOS. Another icon he has selected beats from is none other than Drake.

Listen To “You Did Me Wrong” By Fabolous And Trey Songz

When Drake dropped the For All The Dogs Scary Hours Edition (Instrumental) he challenged the very best to write their best bars. Fabolous was the first to do so over “Evil Ways,” the second J. Cole collaborative effort. Now, for the next “Freestyle Friday” session, Fabolous is back with Trey Songz to perform over “You Broke My Heart.” Both mainstays sound great over it and it may be Fab’s best work as of right now. Go check out the video above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “You Did Me Wrong,” by Fabolous and Trey Songz? Is this the best song from this series he is doing so far, why or why not? Is he the best freestyler of all time? Who had the better performance? Is this the better of the two freestyles over a Drake Scary Hours song? Sexyy Red And Neco Heartaway Drop New Visuals For Collab “City Girl”

Almost every artist that has become popular had to work extremely hard to get to superstardom. That was the case for Missouri rapper and eccentric personality, Sexyy Red. We know her now for her raunchy, NSFW bangers that have taken over for better or for worse. She is highly controversial but, she rakes in the streams and she has a passionate fan base. Sexyy is now selling out shows across the country, but how did she get to that point? Well, one of her earliest hits she was a part of came back in 2021.

She was a small blip on some people’s radar back then if they had a close ear to the streets. Red, along with R&B artist Neco Heartaway, dropped a gem called “City Girl” on September 7. These are nowhere near the kind of tracks that she is used to being on nowadays. It might be better for it because she sounded very out of place on it.

Listen To “City Girl” By Neco Heartaway And Sexyy Red

Neco certainly gave the track his all with a great hook and fantastic vocal work. On the other hand, her voice sounds like it was recorded at the bottom of a well. Additionally, it appears to be too low in the mix. It has similar vibes to when NAV had a weird issue on “YOSEMITE” initially. But, this was just the start for Sexyy Red, so there is not too much you could say about it. We wanted to shed light on this collab track because they just released the visuals. Go check it out for yourself with the link above.

What are your thoughts on this song, “City Girl,” by Neco Heartaway and Sexyy Red? Does she sound better now or when she was coming up? Were you tapped in when the track initially dropped? D-Block Europe Go Across The Pond To Recruit Kodak Black For “Still Play Valorant”

It is always cool when talents from different countries bring their respective approaches to a track. Almost always, it leads to bangers, or something new and refreshing. Today it is the first of those two outcomes. The artists that have joined forces this time around are British rap duo D-Block Europe and Florida’s Kodak Black.

The name of the track is “Still Play Valorant” and this is not a single. Rather, it is closer to the collective’s most recent full-length project, Rolling Stone. With all of the major releases this past weekend, it took some time to get to it. However, we are glad we are able to share it. One of the best parts of this cut is the production hands down.

Listen To “Still Play Valorant” By D-Block Europe And Kodak Black

It is wavy, spacey, and pure melodic trap goodness. If you are into auto-tune you are going to dig this. While it might be a bit of a loose comparison, it shares some similarities to A Boogie wit da Hoodie’s 2017 song “Beast Mode” from The Bigger Artist. The whisky, ghostly, and woodwind-like elements add an ethereal vibe to the violent track. D-Block Europe makes a witty reference to the first-person shooting game, Valorant to show their aggressive nature. “Got sticks at home and I still play VALORANT.” Check it out for yourself above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new song, “Still Play Valorant,” by D-Block Europe and Kodak Black? Who had the best performance out of the three? Who is going to have the biggest year in 2024 and why? Where do you rank Black’s guest verse amongst the rest of his features? Don Trip And Petty Trade Great Showings On “Bar Hopping”

Don Trip has always been someone who constantly pushes out music. 2023 was easily his busiest year yet as an artist. The Memphis spitter was able to dish out 12 different projects and did so in a cool way. At the end of each month, Don had a new album or EP ready to go. The last time we were able to talk about an album of his was back at the end of October with Red October.

He was also there right around Thanksgiving with Wolverine. Like a lot of his projects, Don Trip grabbed features from Starlito as well as his late friend, Pif. Both of those names find their way onto his latest record, Christopher Season 3. It came out on December 29, just before the new year. One of the tracks that caught our attention was “Bar Hopping.”

The title of the song is a double entendre referring to trading rap bars and traveling to different drinking spots. Throughout the track, there is a killer guitar riffing sample. Joe Blow And Larry June Drop Chill And Soul-Filled Track “Without You”

The state of California has been producing a lot of great albums from hip-hop artists in 2023. One of those that has just come out recently was Joe Blow’s Generational Trauma. It might get more buzz early next year, due to its late release. He hails from Oakland and has been keeping a steady career ever since the early 1980s. However, he has slipped through the cracks for HNHH. Our first time covering him was for this new project.

He might not be the most well-known MC from the West Coast, but that is no slight. Joe has had to deal with artists like Kendrick Lamar, YG, Snoop Dogg and so many others taking the spotlight. If you have not listened to any of his material he is great at crafting gangsta rap and laid-back cuts. One of the songs to put your ears to is “Without You.”
