Lil Durk Taps Alicia Keys For “Therapy Session/Pelle Coat” Music Video

It’s been a long time coming but Lil Durk is finally sliding through with his new album, Almost Healed at midnight (Friday, May 26th). The rapper ramped up the anticipation over the past few months with a handful of updates until finally releasing the first single off of the project, “All Of My Life” ft. J. Cole. As expected, the single shot high up the Billboard Hot 100 upon its release, tying Drake’s “Laugh Now Cry Later” as Durk’s highest-charting single. However, the project set the tone for what to expect from Almost Healed.

The tracklist for the project boasts an impressive number of features and producers. Features from Kodak Black and Future have us excited for what will be bound to be summer anthems but the inclusion of Alicia Keys certainly caught people off-guard. The singer appears on the project intro, “Therapy Session,” which Durk previewed this morning in the new video for “Pelle Coat” – the second single from the project ahead of its release.

Lil Durk’s “Therapy Session/Pelle Coat” Video Ft. Alicia Keys

The haunting visuals for his latest single open up with Alicia Keys’ intro as the role of his therapist. “It’s okay to express your vulnerabilities and emotions. This is a judgment-free zone and I encourage you to let your emotions out and express yourself freely,” she says after asking Durk about the passing of King Von and his brother, DThang. “Remember that you don’t have to go through this alone. I’m here to listen, you have the voice in this room. I wanna hear from Durk Banks.”

The video for “Pelle Coat” follows Durk through the streets of Chicago, highlighting his friends and landmarks in the city, such as a mural of King Von. The visuals follow Durk in the backseat of a Suburban before arriving at a Mosque where he prays alongside his father. The visuals perfectly accompany the introspective themes of the record and once again, showcase Durk’s maturity as an artist. Check out the music video above and sound off with your thoughts in the comment section below. Are you excited about Lil Durk’s new album Almost Healed?

Who Is Rapper NoName?

Born Fatimah Warner, NoName is an American rapper out of Chicago. Known for her intimate spoken-word verses and intricate storytelling methods, she’s a rare speck of bliss in the chaotic world of hip-hop. Blending the worlds of D’Angelo and Chance the Rapper, her sound is rooted in jazz. Now 31 years old, she recently took to Instagram to announce her third full-length album, Sundial. The project is currently slated to release in July. NoName has solidified herself as a beacon for women in rap, stating to NPR, “I guess I approach everything with a very entrepreneurial spirit and mentality. Even though it’s a lot of work and I have a very, very slow-rising career, I’m grateful for it because I’ve learned so much about myself through owning my own business.”

At its core, her artistry is all about rejecting the societal norms surrounding artistic output. “I try to exist without binding myself to labels. I’m not really into labels at all, even the way I dress; I usually don’t wear anything with a name brand,” she told FADER in a 2016 interview. “For me, not having a name expands my creativity. I’m able to do anything. NoName could potentially be a nurse, NoName could be a screenwriter. I’m not limited to any one category of art or other existence, on a more existential level.”

NoName Has Stayed Independent As A Rapper

That entrepreneurial mindset is in her bloodline. Raised by her grandparents in the Bronzeville neighborhood of Chicago, her mother owned Afrocentric Bookstore, where her love for books and poetry began. She would begin to hone her talent in creative writing during a class in high school and developed an innate love for the world of poetry. Initially acting as a creative outlet for struggles surrounding her family life and trying teenage years, she would place 3rd in 2010 at the Louder Than A Bomb competition.

Soon enough, her talents with a pen would begin to translate into spoken word. She would befriend another local talent in the form of Chance the Rapper — an artist who shares a mutual stance on major labels. NoName’s big break would occur in 2013, when she appeared on Chance the Rapper’s iconic Acid Rap mixtape, contributing a verse to “Lost.” While the verse was brief, it was enough to garner her a reputation throughout the Chicago area. Soon enough, she was collaborating with the likes of Mick Jenkins and Kirk Knight, blending the worlds of neo-soul and hip-hop.

Telefone and Room 25 Received Significant Critical Acclaim

It was only a matter of time before her mellow, soul-infused raps would morph into a full-length project. We got it in 2016 with Telefone. The concepts of her debut project surround her struggles, specifically in the context of a Black woman growing up in Chicago. Although Telefone reflected the adverse situations she observed growing up, her first project is triumphant and heartwarming in nature. Deriving inspiration from fellow Chicago rappers, Telefone features a plethora of jazzy instrumentals from start to finish. Its soothing verses are a nice breath of relief, offering a reprieve from hip-hop’s emphasis on boisterous energy. Instead, NoName is having an intimate conversation with her audience.

Two years later, she released 2018’s Room 25. NoName’s sophomore effort showcased a significant amount of growth, as she continued down the endearing form of neo-soul hip-hop that popularized her sound in the first place. Room 25 would do an even better job of complimenting her soft voice on the instrumental end, lighting the record into one of the best rap albums of 2018. Take “Window,” an impassioned and lengthy odyssey into a romance that morphed into heartbreak. Moving from Chicago to Los Angeles after the success of Telefone, Room 25 is all about embracing change with a reassuring perspective.

From starting the NoName Book Club to creating generational hip-hop albums, her soft voice looms in the Internet world. That voice sparked a beef between herself and J Cole back in 2020. She stated, “Poor black folks all over the country are putting their bodies on the line in protest for our collective safety and y’all favorite top selling rappers not even willing to put a tweet up. N***as whole discographies be about Black plight and they no where to be found.” J. Cole, apparently feeling slighted, responded with “Snow On Tha Bluff.” However, a conversation between the two confirmed that the song wasn’t in reference to NoName, ending the supposed argument.

Three years ago, NoName also stirred a fair bit of controversy after airing out a series of personal frustrations on Twitter. She tweeted, “me consistently creating content that is primarily consumed by a white audience who would rather shit on me than challenge their liberalism because somehow liking Lizzo’s music absolves them from racist tendencies.” However, she’s far from the first Black artist to express this frustration. NoName didn’t invent the issue, but she’s daring enough to bring it to light. Overall, NoName’s confident voice and in-depth poetic lyricism will continue to influence hip-hop with her next album, Sundial.

Lil Durk Attends Swearing In Ceremony For New Chicago Mayor

Lil Durk has been making moves to make lives better. Last week, Lil Durk and J. Cole finally released their collaboration, “All My Life.” Interestingly, some speculated that this track could potentially become Lil Durk’s first number-one hit. The two rappers also filmed a music video for the song, which features a chorus of children singing the hook. The single’s production was helmed by renowned pop producer Dr. Luke.

In the song, Lil Durk reflects on his journey to fame and his determination to reshape public perception of him. In an interview with XXL, Durk expressed that the track serves as a reflection of his recent experiences and his desire for personal growth. Additionally, he discussed the challenge of finding the right artist to feature on the song. Durk explained, “Dr. Luke produced it. We were just trying to figure out who would be the perfect fit for the second verse… I feel like Cole can bring the energy that I’m looking for to it.” The song is a marked change and very much the opposite direction of Durk’s supposed rival, NBA YoungBoy. The rapper seems to be focusing on the betterment of his life and the lives of those around him.

Durk Shows Up In Support Of The New Mayor Of Chicago

Recently, it was reported that Lil Durk had met with the mayor-elect of Chicago. While some suggested that this might be part of album promotion, the rapper was clear that it had nothing to do with his music. “It ain’t album promo it’s saving kids lives,” Durk said in a comment on a picture of himself and the Chicago mayor-elect. Well, at the very least, it looks as though the two forged some sort of connection in their initial meeting.

Today, Lil Durk attended the swearing in ceremony for the new Chicago mayor. The two posed for pictures together after the event. In the post above from DJ Akademiks’ Instagram, the rapper shakes the mayor’s hand and makes small talk with the politician and his staff. It is unclear what the two have planned after their meeting and Durk’s subsequent visit to the ceremony. However, it does seem that the rapper wants to do everything he can to improve the lives of Chicago’s children. What do you think of Lil Durk’s new venture? Let us know in the comments!

Lil Durk & India Royale Team Up For Mother’s Day

Many people online believe that Lil Durk and India Royale are back together after a few different teases. First, there was a picture of a mystery woman on an Instagram post from the Chicago MC that got many theorizing. Moreover, the two just uploaded a video together for Soulé, a creole-infused soul food restaurant in Chicago, ahead of Mother’s Day. Presumably from their message, the two are paying for mothers’ food at the location, and wished all the mothers out there a fantastic day. Regardless of whether they’re back together or not, the two clearly have more important and beneficial things on their mind together.

Another reason why many think that Smurk and India are back together is because they were recently spotted on a stroll. Given how much the rapper lamented the loss of the relationship, hopefully they are focusing, if anything, on building a solid and amicable relationship together before diving into anything. After all, it’s entirely possible for them to just be on the best terms and support each other in their endeavors. In fact, the entrepreneur reposted the music video for Lil Durk’s most recent drop, the single “All My Life” with J. Cole.

India Royale & Lil Durk Are Giving Back To Their Community On Mother’s Day

Furthermore, this continues the two’s streak of community efforts to help uplift those in need in any way they can. Considering how much many families struggle in their day-to-day, free meals mean a lot, especially on a mother’s special day. Another one of Lil Durk’s charitable works was giving Howard University $350,000 in scholarships and grants. Ultimately, many fans are waiting for official confirmation on their relationship and whether they’re back together. However, it’s great to see them focus on other things as well and use their joint platform for more pressing needs.

Unfortunately, there are those out there that would rather bash them, even if it’s just because of rap beef proximity. NBA YoungBoy recently dissed both of them in a savage Twitter tirade, for which he had no business dragging Royale into. Regardless, it seems like Durk is largely unfazed by his attacks, and clearly saving his energy for more fruitful endeavors. Regardless, check back in with HNHH for the latest news and updates on Lil Durk and India Royale.

Jennifer Hudson & Common’s Relationship Still Going Strong, Couple Shows PDA During Chicago Stroll

Things obviously didn’t work out between Common and Tiffany Haddish. Still, that’s not stopping the rapper from finding love with someone new. Since February, he’s been linked to American Idol alum Jennifer Hudson romantically. Of course, the pair have been friends for quite some time now. Cameras have caught them out and about together in the past, though little is known about how serious the nature of their budding romance is. This past week, however, gave some indication that things may be heating up between Hudson and her beau.

On Thursday (May 4), she and Common were photographed walking arm in arm through a Chicago neighbourhood near her home. Sources told TMZ that the lovers strolled for about 90 minutes, taking their time while enjoying the local scenery. Hudson has reportedly been spotted more frequently than ever over the past few days. She usually spends a lot of time in Los Angeles, where her syndicated talk show is filmed. However, the ongoing writer’s strike has put a halt to that. This gives the vocalist plenty more time to spend with Common at home.

It appears that their connection moved from a platonic to a romantic one during their time together on the set of Breathe. They’ve since been seen grabbing romantic dinners at Nobu, and even Haddish took the opportunity to crack a joke about her ex moving on. “Girl, he never gave me no damn earrings. He probably gave those to Jennifer,” he comedian quipped on TikTok after being asked about jewelry previously given to Common to pass off to her.

It’s hard to say after just a few months, but so far, to co-stars seem to be fitting into each other’s lives seamlessly. See paparazzi photos from Common’s time in Chicago with Jennifer Hudson here. Afterward, tell us if you think the new couple has what it takes to build a lasting relationship in the comments.

Juice WRLD Chicago Mural To Be Replaced

Juice WRLD fans can rest easy now. Many were upset by the mural of the late artist being painted over. However, they can find solace in today’s news. According to TMZ, a new mural paying tribute to him is in the works. The person who painted over the original mural has still not been identified. According to the late rapper’s manager, Peter Jideonwo, he and the family are still unaware of who removed the beloved cultural landmark.

Since it was unveiled in 2020, thousands of fans traveled to Chicago to see the original mural. It was created in memory of Juice WRLD after he died from an overdose in December 2019. The artwork was commissioned by the 999 Squad for $50,000 and was painted by artist Corey Pane. Despite being in the early stages of planning, Peter and Juice’s team are considering how to make the new installation even better. Additionally, they want to make sure to protect it from potential vandalism or accidents. As such, they are considering the possibility of a life-sized statue or a mural that would be covered for protection.

Juice’s Continuing Legacy

Despite his untimely death, Juice WRLD has continued to achieve significant accomplishments in his music career. Last month, it was revealed that the rapper had surpassed 30 billion streams on Spotify alone. This achievement solidified his status as one of the most streamed artists of all time. One can only imagine how many streams Juice has when you include other platforms such as Apple Music and YouTube. Recently, Juice’s close friend and collaborator, Cole Bennet, celebrated a personal milestone in their careers by sharing on Instagram that the first music video he ever shot for Juice had reached 300 million views on YouTube.

Juice’s death was a huge blow to the music industry and community at large as he seemed to be one of the fastest-rising stars in the industry. Since passing, the rapper’s music has only become more popular. In 2021, the RIAA announced that the rapper had posthumously received 50 new platinum and gold song certifications. His 2018 single “Lucid Dreams” has gone 9x platinum. The rapper also currently holds the record for the highest number of streams per song on Spotify. Stay tuned to HNHH for the latest updates on Juice’s accomplishments and the new tribute planned in Chicago.

Joakim Noah Launches Basketball League With Great Intentions

During his time with the Chicago Bulls, Joakim Noah became a fan favorite. The former Bulls big man wasn’t afraid to express himself on the court. Noah became a staple piece of the franchise during the Derrick Rose era. The former Florida Gators star spent the first nine years of his thirteen-year career in Chicago. So it goes without saying that Noah has a large soft spot for the city. However, now Noah wants to give back to the city that gave him so much for so many years.

On Monday, Noah sat down with NBA insider Shams Charania to discuss his plans for a basketball league. However, this basketball league isn’t like the one you are picturing right now. But a league that is more than just basketball. The NBA veteran announced the start of the ‘One City Basketball League.’ A league that will create a better opportunity for those seeking a better life. The league will be partnered with over 28 violence prevention groups. Check out the interview with Noah and Charania below.

Joakim Noah Seeking Change In Chicago

The league is hoping to be much bigger than just a place for people to play basketball. The goal is to provide financial incentives for those involved. As well as other off-the-court programs and job opportunities. The league is a fantastic idea for any city, not just Chicago. Violent crimes and violence in general continues to be on the rise in the United States. It is great to see those who have a large voice, like Noah, attempt to make a change within their communities.

The ‘One City Basketball League’ is a fantastic start to building a place for people to take pride in their city. During the interview, Noah mentioned what playing in Chicago means to him. “One of the ways to unify the city is through hoops. Some of my best friends, to this day, are from playing basketball. That’s what we’re trying to do. We’re trying to unify the city.” Kudos to Joakim Noah for attempting to make a positive impact in the United States.
