Tyler The Creator is riding the CHROMAKOPIA high right now, even if it comes at the expense of some pretty shocked casual listeners. With every new album cycle, a fresh set of folks new to T discover his controversial old lyrics, something he’s talked about and reckoned with a lot in more recent material. So much so, in fact, that he specifically called out Taylor Swift fans for their context-lacking criticism. “I got Swifties all mad at me with their racist a**,” the Hawthorne native joked during a short show in Boston yesterday (Thursday, October 31). “Bringing up old lyrics. B***h, go listen to ‘Tron Cat,’ I don’t give a f**k, h*e. The f**k, b***h? They gon’ bring out the old me.”

For those unaware, this probably came up because Tyler, The Creator overtook Taylor Swift’s No. 1 position on Spotify’s global Top Artists chart. It’s more of a battle between fanbases rather than between the artists, as Tyler was probably just generalizing a much larger group than Swifties here rather than calling out the superstar singer herself directly. Nevertheless, the commercial and critical success of CHROMAKOPIA made a heavy mark, although it’s sad to see it result in fans bickering over their preference. More importantly, it minimizes actual dialogue and conversation about these lyrics, which have understandable and legitimate arguments on both sides.

Tyler The Creator Responds To Backlash Over Old Lyrics

But we know well that Tyler, The Creator would much rather talk about the quality of his music than these narratives. “At 1:54 of ST CHROMA, that siren and low end together feels like a blast wave after an explosion,” he recently tweeted about his favorite CHROMAKOPIA moments. “The ’20 thousand on me…’ part of RAH TAH TAH, the delivery is from a d*mb joke of mine but i couldnt get it outta my head, why not record it.”

With all this in mind, it will be interesting to see whether or not Tyler, The Creator or Taylor Swift actually speak on this in any direct way. They could either fuel their fanbases to be even more insufferably combative or show them the light. It’s a big responsibility to carry, but such is the state of Internet Stan culture these days.

Alicia Keys Put On Blast After Asking What DJs Do

Earlier this week, Alicia Keys took to social media to question what DJs “actually do.” Unsurprisingly, this has since earned her a great deal of backlash. Of course, many are arguing that DJs play a major role in giving artists like her exposure, meaning she should already know the answer to her own question. DJ R-Tistic even hopped online to call her out, alleging that he was not paid for playing her song on Instagram Live. “All I know is her label offered me a few hundred to play her song, and then never paid me after I played it,” he wrote on X.

He went on to elaborate in The Jasmine Brand‘s comments section on Instagram, claiming that her label was behind it. “It was her label at the time, RCA. Via professional e-mail. Someone from their team offered to pay me to play a remix of one of her songs while I live streamed on IG, second week of the pandemic, when we were locked inside. I played it, and the label rep went ghost on the followup,” he alleged.

He went on to respond to those insisting he should have demanded payment upfront, insisting it was not an option. DJ R-Tistic isn’t the only one to call Alicia Keys out for her remarks, however. For those unaware, he signed a new deal with 10K Projects, their first as a lone label following their exit from Warner Music Group. In fact, the Memphis rapper wanted to release a compilation to celebrate, yet he remains signed individually under Yo Gotti’s CMG imprint. It’s unclear if this caused a delay in the compilation, but regardless, Loaf wants them to recognize her input.

One of these is Icewear Vezzo, who had previously called his fellow Detroit MC “out of touch,” something that ‘Zino tried to use against them. However, Vezzo responded to the mention on “Rap Elvis” with some harsh words on Instagram on Wednesday (January 31), making his actual stance much clearer.

She shared a clip of some kids enjoying food she allegedly helped provide, however, the children’s ministry she claims to have helped was quick to call her out. According to an account claiming to be the owner of The Blessed Kids Ministry, Tokyo blocked them on social media. They say that the 51-year-old is no longer helping them, but continues to go online claiming she does.

“Please am the owner of this kids under my orphanage ministry you blocked us but you show people that you help this kids please stop it,” they wrote. They continued, telling others to DM them for more information on the topic. “Sister it pains us when kids have no food yet we see her posting us showing people that she is giving us everything.”

For obvious reasons, the alleged ministry owner’s claims have gotten social media users talking.
