Federal Court Upholds Conviction In C-Murder’s 2009 Homicide Case

A recent report has confirmed that a federal judge has upheld the murder conviction of legendary No Limit rapper Corey Miller aka C-Murder despite two key witnesses recanting their testimony, which they say was not true.

U.S. District Judge Sarah S. Vance denied a habeas corpus petition on November 13 filed by Miller’s attorneys, in which they attempted to overturn the 2009 murder conviction in which Miller was convicted of the January 2002 murder of 16-year-old Steve Thomas at NOLA’s Platinum Club.

Vance was convinced that the recants of the two witnesses were “suspect and not reliable,”upholding the court’s original ruling. Vance stated in her 47-page ruling, that Miller has the difficulty to “put forth clear and convincing evidence of error in the state courts’ findings of fact, which he has failed to do.” 

Miller was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted in 2009 after being tried twice of the 2002 shooting death of Thomas. The 16-year-old was an up-and-coming rapper was shot inside of the club, with security guard Darnell Jordan saying he saw a flash of light come from Miller’s hand, which was presumably a gunshot.

The second witness, Kenneth Jordan, testified that notable attendees of the club were allowed to go around metal detectors at the club and identified C-Murder as the shooter from a photo lineup. Both men’s testimonies were consistent until 2018 when they signed affidavits recanting their statements and accusing police investigators of pressuring them. 

In 2019, a Jefferson Parish judge ruled that the recantations were not credible. 

C-Murder is appealing Vance’s decision to a higher federal court.

C-Murder offered high praise to Youngboy Never Broke Again. Hitting Instagram, C-Murder called for older generations to stop hating on the new generation of rap and dubbing NBA Youngboy the Soulja Silm of this era.

“NBA Youngboy keeping it realer with me than any nigga I know,” C-Murder wrote. “However it go, I’m rolling with him in war or peace. He’s my Soulja Slim of the new generation.”

In other C-Murder news, the family of his alleged victim is blasting Kim Kardashian for her efforts in attempting to free the incarcerated rapper. Speaking with TMZ Hip-Hop, George Thomas, the brother of the late Steve Thomas, stated Kardashian‘s legal efforts reopened the wounds the family once healed.

Steve was 16 when he died, and his brother states that the continuous highlighting of C-Murder and his case constantly impacts their trauma. George also states the evidence presented against Murder is more than enough to leave him locked up, citing celebs who want him free, not necessarily the ordinary citizen.

George also states that he does support Kim Kardashian aiding innocent people, but C-Murder is not one of them.

His name has been in the headlines this month as Kim Kardashian does her part to help free the 52-year-old, however, not everyone (especially not his alleged victim’s family) wants to see Murder – born Corey Miller – back on the streets. Regardless of what’s happening with his legal affairs, the New Orleans native is still using his platform to speak out about issues that are important to him, particularly the relationship between the new and old generations of hip-hop.

On Sunday (August 20), Murder’s Instagram page lit up with a new post sending out a message to others from his generation. “I want to ask the older cats to stop hating on our new generation that rap. These dudes really eating and it’s all legal,” he captioned a photo of NBA YoungBoy. Apparently, the 23-year-old has been “keeping it realer with [Murder] than any ni**a [he] knows.”

C-Murder Gives NBA YoungBoy His Flowers

Boosie Badazz Thanks Kim Kardashian For Bringing Attention To Corey Miller’s Case

Boosie Badazz recently took to social media, insisting that Corey Miller AKA C-Murder is innocent and calling for him to be released. For those who don’t know, C-Murder, the younger brother of Master P, was arrested back in 2002 for a crime he claims he didn’t commit. He’s accused of shooting and killing a 16-year-old named Steve Thomas outside of a nightclub in Louisiana. Kim Kardashian has been working on the case for some time. She then used her platform to shed light on his case with a Tweet last week.

In her post, she highlighted a new law recently enacted by the state of Louisiana, which should allow convicted individuals to raise claims of factual evidence. “Mr. Miller has raised such a claim,” Kim wrote, “and like all of his prior post-conviction filings, has been denied relief without even so much as an evidentiary hearing.” Due to her major audience, Kim has managed to get several new sets of eyes on the case in hopes that he’s eventually freed. Boosie Badazz thanked Kim for her efforts on Instagram yesterday (August 8), telling her that she’s “greatly appreciated.”

Boosie Asks Joe Biden, Kamala Harris To Free Corey Miller

“HE REALLY INNOCENT LOUISIANA KNOWS THIS @cmurder NEEDS TO BE RELEASED NOW‼” Boosie also wrote. “[Kamala Harris][Joe Biden] CAN YOU PLEASE FREE HIM,” he continued, “IM GOING TO AT YOU EVERY DAY‼ HE NEEDS HELP [prayer emoji]. YOU CAN CALL THE GOVERNOR N MAKE THIS HAPPEN.” Boosie finished his post, also adding, “HE DID NOT COMMIT THIS CRIME.”

This was far from the first time Boosie has spoken out about Miller’s case. In 2021, he called on Biden and Harris again, asking for him to be released. He claimed that he expected his friend to be pardoned by Trump on his last day in office. “If his name was on Donald Trump’s desk, I feel like he should’ve gotten a pardon before anybody because he’s innocent,” he explained. “He done almost 20, you know. It’s been 20 years, bro. I was in my feelings that day. That’s my partner. I really want to see him come home, but there’s a lot of doors closing on him.”

Kim Kardashian Called Out By The Family Of C-Murder’s Victim

Kim Kardashian has a belief that the brother of Master P, rapper C-Murder is due a fair trial. On January 16, 2002, 16-year-old Steven Thomas entered the now-closed Platinum Club in Harvey, Louisiana. Sadly, he did not make out after a group of men close to C-Murder beat him up. After that, he was fatally shot and his family and friends continue to mourn the loss that can never be replaced. They are consistently grieving because people, including Kim Kardashian discuss this case to this day.

A few days ago, Kim went to Twitter to share her thoughts on this trial that ultimately led to C-Murder receiving a mandatory life sentence. The Louisiana rapper was ultimately found guilty of the second-degree murder of Steve Thomas. Kim said, “Corey Miller [C-Murder] has spent 21 years in prison for a crime he did not commit, and his conviction is based entirely on the testimony of two men, whom the State dragged to trial just on material witness warrants. Those men have now sworn that their prior testimony was untrue.” She released this statement because a new Louisiana law was passed, which allows the incarcerated to prove their innocence.

However, these feelings Kim Kardashian shared ultimately led up to the brother of Steve Thomas to respond in an interview with TMZ. George Thomas said, “Whenever a celebrity such as Kim Kardashian advocates for C-Murder, it’s like reopening the same wound that cut the family so deep years ago.” He is happy that Kim wants to fight for the innocent, but C-Murder is not the man to be advocating for.
