Federal Court Upholds Conviction In C-Murder’s 2009 Homicide Case

C Murder 1

A recent report has confirmed that a federal judge has upheld the murder conviction of legendary No Limit rapper Corey Miller aka C-Murder despite two key witnesses recanting their testimony, which they say was not true.

U.S. District Judge Sarah S. Vance denied a habeas corpus petition on November 13 filed by Miller’s attorneys, in which they attempted to overturn the 2009 murder conviction in which Miller was convicted of the January 2002 murder of 16-year-old Steve Thomas at NOLA’s Platinum Club.

Vance was convinced that the recants of the two witnesses were “suspect and not reliable,”upholding the court’s original ruling. Vance stated in her 47-page ruling, that Miller has the difficulty to “put forth clear and convincing evidence of error in the state courts’ findings of fact, which he has failed to do.”

Miller was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted in 2009 after being tried twice of the 2002 shooting death of Thomas. The 16-year-old was an up-and-coming rapper was shot inside of the club, with security guard Darnell Jordan saying he saw a flash of light come from Miller’s hand, which was presumably a gunshot.

The second witness, Kenneth Jordan, testified that notable attendees of the club were allowed to go around metal detectors at the club and identified C-Murder as the shooter from a photo lineup. Both men’s testimonies were consistent until 2018 when they signed affidavits recanting their statements and accusing police investigators of pressuring them.

In 2019, a Jefferson Parish judge ruled that the recantations were not credible.

C-Murder is appealing Vance’s decision to a higher federal court.

Corey Miller Thanks Kim Kardashian For Her Support

Kim Kardashian recently took to social media to bring some attention to the case of Corey Miller. Miller has spent over 20 years in a Louisiana prison for a crime he allegedly did not commit. He was arrested in 2002 following a shooting at Platinum Club in LA, and has maintained his innocence ever since. A new state law should allow Miller to appear in court again, however, this right has allegedly been denied.

“Louisiana recently enacted a new law that provides innocent people with the ability to raise a post-conviction claim of factual innocence,” Kim wrote on Twitter earlier this week. “Mr. Miller has raised such a claim and, like all of his prior post-conviction filings, has been denied relief without even so much as an evidentiary hearing. In light of the fact that the only witnesses have completely recanted their testimony, there is absolutely no remaining evidence against Mr. Miller. Corey Miller deserves a day in court to test the veracity of the recanted statements and to prove that he did not shoot Steve Thomas.

Kim Kardashian On Corey Miller’s Case

Kim shedding light on the case surely makes it more likely that Miller will soon have an opportunity for justice. He took to social media to respond to Kardashian’s statement, expressing his gratitude for her bringing the case to the public’s attention. “It’s been a long journey for justice,” he writes, “Thank you @kimkardashian [prayer emoji] and EVERYONE involved over the years (praying, advocating and believing) in my innocence.”

According to Kim, she’s been working on Miller’s case “for years.” Elsewhere in her message, she pointed out some inconsistencies in the case. She also urged fans to repost the statement to shed additional light on his story, and went on to express her sympathy for the victims and families involved. “I pray for their healing and the closure that they deserve,” she writes.

Kim Kardashian Shares Lengthy Statement On Corey Miller Case

Kim Kardashian recently took to Twitter (now “X”) with a comprehensive summary of, and update on, the Corey Miller case. For those unaware, Miller (Master P’s brother also known as C-Murder) was arrested in 2002 in connection with the murder of Steve Thomas in Louisiana, and consistently maintained his innocence over the last 21 years. Moreover, it seems like the reality star has worked on this case for years now during her career as a lawyer. Now, her update’s most salient point is that new Louisiana state law would allow Miller to once again vouch for his innocence. However, it seems like his post-conviction claim of factual innocence was met with silence, and she’s using her large platform to advocate for justice.

“Louisiana recently enacted a new law that provides innocent people with the ability to raise a post-conviction claim of factual innocence,” Kim Kardashian wrote. “Mr. Miller has raised such a claim and, like all of his prior post-conviction filings, has been denied relief without even so much as an evidentiary hearing. In light of the fact that the only witnesses have completely recanted their testimony, there is absolutely no remaining evidence against Mr. Miller. Corey Miller deserves a day in court to test the veracity of the recanted statements and to prove that he did not shoot Steve Thomas.”

Kim Kardashian On Corey Miller’s Innocence & Court Issues

Elsewhere in her message, the fashion and social media mogul expressed sympathy for the victims and their families regardless of Miller’s alleged innocence. In addition, Kim Kardashian explained how evidence in the trial became moot, and how there is nothing that truly sustains his guilt. Overall, it seems like quite the murky and strangely vague case for such a high-profile figure in entertainment. Also, this fight to free Corey Miller raged on for years prior to this point, and it’s unclear how much this new law will help him.

Regardless, the 42-year-old knows that it should help him, and will likely keep updating people on the case’s progress. Beyond Kim’s updates, Miller released a song and letter last year wishing NBA YoungBoy well on his gun case. He said he sees himself in YB, and many hope that he will be able to support people in his shoes as a free man and not an incarcerated individual. C Murder Reveals Hunger Strike, Asks Activists For Help With Appeal

For over two decades, C Murder has been behind bars. The No Limit rapper was in his prime with his brother Master P when he was accused of murder. In 2022, a 16-year-old named Steven Thomas used a fake I.D. to attend a concert at Harvey nightclub. During the event, Thomas was attacked, shot, and killed. Six days later, C Murder, real name Corey Miller, was arrested and charged with the crime. He went to trial, and a jury ruled 10-2 guilty.

Throughout his incarceration, there have been calls for Miller’s release. Advocates have petitioned investigators to reopen the case, especially after a key witness recanted their story. Monica has also stood by Miller’s side, and it is rumored that the two former lovers have rekindled their romance. Just an hour ago, the rapper took to his Instagram page to plea for help as he continues to appeal the case.

Corey Miller’s Impassioned Plea

“Jan. 17, 2023, marked 21 years I Corey Miller have been in the Louisiana Penal system,” wrote C Murder in a caption. “I have been fighting for my health and freedom against this wrongful conviction and simultaneously fighting for my constitutional rights that were stripped away and violated by the penal system of Louisiana. An appeal was filed late December of 2022 and the DA & Judge of Louisiana has 30 days from Feb. 7, 2023 to answer.” He then detailed his hunger strike that was recently launched.

“Because Conditions in the Elayn Hunt Correctional Center have not improved, I am engaging in a hunger strike that began on February 23rd of 2023,” he said, “to bring awareness to me and all inmates’ neglected and abused at the hands of the Louisiana penal system. It is imperative, NOW MORE THAN EVER, that a quick strategic move is made as my health has significantly declined due to the prison system’s inhumane conditions and I am not getting proper medical treatment. This has taking a major toll on me but I refuse to give up. Please Stand with me.”

Calling On Attorneys, Lawmakers, & Activists

After penning his statement, C Murder also tagged several people and outlets. Attorney Ben Crump, who tackles police brutality and misconduct cases, was added, as was Kim Kardashian. Her work in helping with prisoner releases has been well-documented. Million Dollaz Worth of Game host Wallo works intimately in prison reform, and the Innocence Project has done stellar work in helping the wrongfully convicted taste freedom once again. Check out C Murder and who else he tagged above.
