Beyoncé Releases The New Single ‘Break My Soul,’ A Confident Anthem

After rebooting her social media profiles and sending fans into a frenzy over something called “Renaissance,” Beyoncé’s has just released a new song “Break My Soul,” which is a single from the forthcoming album of that title. It’s a confident, clubby anthem with inspiring lyrics: “Now I just fell in love / And I just quit my job / I’m gonna find new drive / Damn they work me so damn hard.” It previews a relentlessly catchy LP.

The track is four and a half minutes, giving enough time for fans to fully relish it. Her last full-length record was 2016’s iconic Lemonade, so this is a real treat. She also mentioned that Renaissance will be heavy on both country and dance tunes, and this single definitely proves the latter.

In a 2021 interview, Beyonce hinted at Rennaissance when she said discussed working on new music: “With all the isolation and injustice over the past year, I think we are all ready to escape, travel, love, and laugh again. I feel a renaissance emerging, and I want to be part of nurturing that escape in any way possible. I’ve been in the studio for a year and a half. Sometimes it takes a year for me to personally search through thousands of sounds to find just the right kick or snare. One chorus can have up to 200 stacked harmonies. Still, there’s nothing like the amount of love, passion, and healing that I feel in the recording studio. After 31 years, it feels just as exciting as it did when I was nine years old. Yes, the music is coming!”

Beyonce Confirms ‘Break My Soul,’ A New Song, Is Coming Tonight

Beyonce is entering a new era, but so far, she’s done so quietly; The recent announcement of her upcoming album Renaissance came via Tidal and an update to her social media bios. Now, she’s back with more covert news, as it looks like she’s releasing a new song tonight: This morning, she again updated her online profiles to read, “6.ㅤ ㅤ BREAK MY SOUL ㅤ midnight ET,” seemingly indicating that a song called “Break My Soul,” presumably the sixth track on Renaissance, is dropping tonight at midnight.

Spotify also tweeted about “Break My Soul,” echoing Beyonce in saying that it’ll be out tonight.

As for what Beyonce’s upcoming music will sound like, recent reports have indicated the LP will incorporate dance and country music.

In a 2021 interview, Beyonce perhaps slyly hinted at Rennaissance when she said of working on new music, “With all the isolation and injustice over the past year, I think we are all ready to escape, travel, love, and laugh again.

Beyonce’s ‘Renaissance’ Album Is Said To Be Heavy On Both Country And Dance Tunes

Classifying Beyonce’s massive discography of music into any specific genre is a mostly fruitless exercise (which didn’t stop us from trying in 2020) because the versatile star is constantly evolving and experimenting, refusing to be kept to just one box or genre. That musical dabbling will apparently continue on her upcoming new album Renaissance; Variety reports that the album will see Beyonce leaning more heavily into the country direction she flashed on her last full-length album Lemonade in 2016, as well as incorporating more “dance” music — although that’s a broad category which could figure in a lot of musical directions.

A source familiar with the album says that Bey has tapped Ryan Tedder, whose past contributions to her oeuvre included the angelic “Halo,” and neo-soul demigod Raphael Saadiq, who deserves far more credit for both his production work and his own extensive catalog. Since the surprise announcement for the album labeled the collection due on July 29 “Act 1,” that could be an indication that the album will either be released in parts or will be a “multi-disc” affair, in which case the songs could be organized by similar sounds.

In British Vogue‘s cover story about the album, editor-in-chief Edward Enninful describes being “transported back to the clubs of my youth,” which suggests a possible house, ball culture-inspired sound — which would be timely, since drag is enormous right now, with all kinds of artists tapping the sound of the underground subculture. It’s also big on television thanks to competition shows like Legendary on HBO Max. In any case, this is all just speculation until the album actually drops, but one thing is for sure: The Beyhive will be going crazy ’til then and Beyonce remains one of the biggest stars on the planet.

Beyoncé Announces New Album ‘Renaissance’

The Renaissance is coming.

After much anticipation and speculation, Beyoncé has revealed that her seventh studio album will arrive on July 29.

The official announcement came late Wednesday night (June 15) after Queen Bey cleared out her social media channels last week, including Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok, fueling speculation from fans that new music was imminent.

She changed her Instagram bio to read “act i RENAISSANCE 7.29” and updated her official website with Renaissance merch and a pre-order link. Apple Music’s pre-add page reveals that the project will contain 16 tracks. The act i subtitle also appears to suggest that the music is part of a multi-part project.

Additionally, Bey’s BeyGOOd Foundation celebrated Black Music Month by sharing an image of iconic albums. Brandy’s B7 album was among the covers featured alongside a previously unseen image of a red glove-covered hand pointing to it. The BeyHive immediately connected the dots and took it as a sign that Beyoncé’s seventh album was on the way.

The B7 era is already underway. Queen Bey graces the cover of British Vogue as she gears up for next month’s release. The magazine describes the album as “her most ambitious musical project to date,” and also hints at a “thrilling abundance” of music to come.

British Vogue‘s editor-in-chief, Edward Enninful, got an early listen to Renaissance and shared his first impressions.

“Soaring vocals and fierce beats combine and in a split second I’m transported back to the clubs of my youth,” he writes. “I want to get up and start throwing moves. It’s music I love to my core. Music that makes you rise, that turns your mind to cultures and subcultures, to our people past and present, music that will unite so many on the dance floor, music that touches your soul. As ever with Beyoncé, it is all about the intent.”

Renaissance marks Bey’s first project since 2016’s Lemonade, which was released to critical acclaim.

Beyonce Fans Are (Predictably) Losing It Over Her Surprise Album Announcement

Beyonce shared the release date for something called “Renaissance” on Wednesday night, and her fans are (predictably) losing it. While Beyonce has hinted at working on new music, her fans couldn’t help but feel totally parched at the dearth of fresh releases from the pop=R&B queen. Her last album, Lemonade, was released over six years ago and since then, the closest she’s come to putting out a full-length body of work was the soundtrack hybrid album, The Lion King: The Gift, which she later repurposed into the musical film Black Is King for Disney Plus.

So it’s understandable that the Beyhive freaked out a little bit when Beyonce rebooted her social media profiles, removing all content including bios, profile pics, and posts. It’s a move she herself pioneered, indicating that a new project could soon be on the way. However, when she also updated her official website, there were some members of the Hive who felt the star was just stringing them along. There were plenty of protesters hoping that Beyonce wasn’t just building up to another Ivy Park drop, but then Spotify and Tidal got involved and the mystery deepened.

Now, we know exactly when some new Beyonce music will be hitting those DSPs and the meme floodgates have not just opened but totally burst. As usual, the Beyhive is being as hilarious as possible while celebrating the impending end to their dreaded drought. Check out some of the best responses below.
