Big Sean Unleashes Sixth Studio Album ‘Better Me Than You’

Big Sean

7x BET Award-winning and GRAMMY®-nominated hip-hop artist Big Sean has released his highly anticipated sixth studio album, Better Me Than You, via Def Jam Recordings. The album marks a triumphant return for Sean, serving as his first full-length solo project since the PLATINUM-certified Detroit 2. Alongside the release, Sean also dropped the official music video for “Who You Are (Superstar),” featuring Amine, Dylan Patel, Jazz Cartier, Mark Phillips, and Taye Diggs.

Better Me Than You takes listeners on a 21-track journey of self-exploration, responsibility, and embracing the complexity and wonder of the human experience. Sean previously described the album on X (formerly known as Twitter) as being guided by four pillars represented by colors: PRESSURE (red), which leads to CLARITY (aqua blue), which gives FOCUS (green), and ultimately brings HAPPINESS (yellow gold).

The album boasts an impressive lineup of collaborators, including Charlie Wilson, Gunna, Eryn Allen Kane, Bryson Tiller, Larry June, Kodak Black, Cash Cobain, The Alchemist, Teyana Taylor, and more, adding depth and variety to this personal and powerful project.

Big Sean Is A Romance Broker In His Cameo-Filled ‘Who You Are (Superstar)’ Video

After a short delay earlier in the month, Big Sean’s new album Better Me Than You is out now and with it, the comically romantic video for standout song, “Who You Are (Superstar).” As suggested by its title, the song is constructed around a sample of Usher’s 2004 Confessions hit, “Superstar,” with Sean whispering sweet nothings and empowering affirmations to a romantic interest.

In the tongue-in-cheek video, which is inspired in equal parts by the call center-oriented films Girl 6 and Boiler Room, Sean gets help in the above endeavor from an office full of Lothario phone operators, played by comedians Mark Philips, Dylan Patel and fellow musicians Jazz Cartier and Aminé, with veteran actor Taye Diggs, who plays their boss.

Opening like an infomercial, with the boys encouraging women to call in to receive some confidence, the rest of the video follows their in-office antics, as they gas each other up with advice and their own encouraging mantras scribbled on post-its. The ladies calling in range from surgeons to jet-setting bigwigs, calling in from work or workouts.

The overall vibe is right in line with much of the rest of Better Me Than You, which has featured other empowering singles such as “Clarity,” “On Up,” “Together Forever,” and “Yes.”

Big Sean Had Everyone Screaming “I Don’t F*** With You” With His 2015 Smash Hit

After multiple setbacks and leaks, Big Sean is finally releasing his next studio album Better Me Than You this Friday. Overall, it’s been a mentally and emotionally taxing process for the Detroit, Michigan rapper. In fact, during a recent Instagram Live, he let his emotions out, getting pretty tearful explaining what he’s been going through trying to get this album as perfect as he possibly could despite all sorts of roadblocks. “When you make art, you put your heart into this s***”, he told his IG audience. Now, him and his fans can celebrate all of the hard work on August 30, and we can also not wait for what’s in store.

So, to tide our appetites over, we are heading back to one of his biggest bangers and records ever, “I Don’t F*** With You”. As most people know, this 2015 track landed on his third studio album Dark Sky Paradise, one of his releases with G.O.O.D. Music and Def Jam Recordings. One thing about Big Sean is that he’s always going to rap with a lot of fervor, especially on his aggressive sounding tracks. He does this through using zany voice inflections, something that newbies to his music are just now coming to learn about. It’s part of the reason why this song became such a hit. However, you cannot forget about the iconic pre-chorus and chorus, the high school football music video, and the equally entertaining E-40 verse. Relive “I Don’t F*** With You” below.

If tenacious was a person it would be Big Sean. The “On Up” rapper is determined to get his sixth studio album, Better Me Than You, out into the world. By the end of this week, that goal would have been accomplished.

After experiencing a leak, subsequent delay, and harsh criticism about his flow on single “Yes,” the forthcoming body of work has a new release date. Today (August 26), during an Instagram livestream (captured by NFR Podcast, viewable here) Big Sean announced fans should expect Better Me Than You to hit streaming platforms this Friday, August 30.

“The album is dropping this week,” he said. “I appreciate my mom for being that guardian angel always giving me that advice. She really talked me through it for real. Like I said, I haven’t been sleeping a lot. I been giving this sh*t my all. I’m burned the f*ck out. I’m tired. I do do this sh*t for the people that f*ck with me. I’m excited. That’s one thing my mom said, ‘Get excited! Drop — Your album is fire!’ Everyone around me keep saying that.”

Big Sean also went on to say that supporters can experience the project live at one of the listening parties he has scheduled in New York City, Los Angeles, and of course his hometown, Detroit.

Not much is known about Big Sean’s Los Angeles and Detroit events. But on August 27 at the Samsung 837 NYC location, as part of the Samsung Presents series (in partnership with the IMG Agency) he will sit down for an intimate conversation about the project before previewing it for attendees. Big Sean Checks Baby Keem Fans Amid Biting Accusations

Earlier this week, Big Sean dropped off a new music video for his track “Yes,” sparking big reactions from some Baby Keem fans. The Detroit performer was immediately accused of copying Keem’s style, causing both of them to trend on X. “We really live in a world where baby keem has 40 year old sons,” one critic wrote. “Kendrick and Baby Keem bout to send Big Sean a cease and desist,” another claimed.

Luckily, plenty of fans rushed to Big Sean’s defense, pointing out that he’d been rapping that way long before Baby Keem. Now, it appears as though he’s taken to X to address the debacle for himself. “Must not be familiar wit my game,” he Tweeted last night. Clearly, Big Sean stands by his work and isn’t afraid to defend it if necessary.

Big Sean Clears Things Up

He’s receiving even more support from fans in his replies, who’ve had his back since the biting accusations began earlier this week. “They wasnt around for finally famous,” one says. “You’re a legend in this game, Big Sean. They don’t respect you man smh,” another writes. Needless to say, they never had any doubts. It looks like Big Sean will be getting back to work soon following the short-lived controversy, as he has a lot more on the way. His album Better Me Than You is slated for release on August 31 after a few delays.

The project was initially scheduled to be released on August 9 but got pushed back after getting leaked online. As for what fans can expect, Big Sean told Essence that he’s aiming purely for “authenticity.” What do you think of some listeners accusing Big Sean of biting Baby Keem’s flow on his track “Yes”? What about his apparent response to the accusations? Are you looking forward to hearing his new album Better Me Than You? Big Sean Skates Over Soulful Beat From The Alchemist On “Together Forever”

Big Sean has been one of the biggest leak victims this year, especially since it has affected the release of his upcoming album. Better Me Than You was slated to hit DSPs last Friday, August 9. Now, we should be receiving the new body work hopefully by the end of the month. If not then, we could also be looking at an early September date as well. The Detroit MC has been handling all of this very well given the circumstances, which you have to commend him for. He revealed he’s in the process of planning some shows immediately after the album drops, so he’s really trying to give fans a lot during this album rollout. In the meantime, though, Big Sean is tiding fans over with “Together Forever”, which brings the single total to four.

It seems that Sean Don is leaning into themes of family, relationships, self-confidence, and living a fulfilling life for this record. Overall, it seems like this project could be one of his best yet, because “Together Forever” is another W in our books. Here, Big Sean is reuniting with the mad scientist himself, The Alchemist. The acclaimed producer has worked with him once before on the Larry June-led cut, “Palisades, CA”. The West Coast native gives the Michigan technician a jazzy, soulful, and head-nodding boom-bap beat, which he floats on. Below, you can check out the song and its accompanying visuals. On top of this heater, Sean seems to tease another track from the album with a darker approach and it may feature some rapping from Uncle Al, so fingers crossed.

Big Sean And The Alchemist Are Locked In ‘Together Forever,’ Or So Their Latest ‘Better Me Than You’ Video Boasts

Big Sean isn’t letting leaks or delays impact his forthcoming album’s promotion. Although the new release date for Better Me Than You hasn’t officially been announced, fans can sink their teeth into another track off the project.

Today (August 16), the “Precision” rapper dropped a new single off of the forthcoming body of work. On “Together Forever,” Big Sean forgoes his usual humble pie (as of late) to boast about how ambition has made him a household name.

In the track’s official video, his Better You Than Me partner-in-crime, The Alchemist, joins Big Sean to showcase that their chemistry far surpasses the recording booth.

“How does it get any better than this / Woke up to a PYT telling me to get up / Through all of the pressure I’m keeping my chest up / Tupac keep your head up, they aim for the next up / They plottin’ but f*ck it I’m set to go setup the b*tch that’s setting me up for the set up,” raps Big Sean.

The Alchemist’s fluid production and Big Sean’s even wavier bars make the wait for the project even harder to bear. But, it does build a confidence that it could very well be worth it in the end.

Why Did Big Sean’s New Album ‘Better Me Than You’ Get Delayed?

Big Sean’s album Better Me Than You is no longer going to drop on August 9 as he initially announced. After an astute fan noticed the conspicuous wording of Sean’s latest post about the album on Instagram and left a comment wondering about the change, Sean gave an explanation for the delay.

The fan asked, “Why u saying album soon like it’s not suppose to drop on the 9th?” In response, Big Sean wrote back, “I gotta push it back just a lil bit. Music done but jus organizing listening events, shows, etc. Might need a extra week or 2 to plan.”

So, it seems the album will likely still release in August, just not this Friday as originally expected (at least that frees up this writer’s weekend to focus on releases from Latto and Larry June).

Sean initially teased new music in March with the release of “Clarity,” which had the bad luck of being timed after Kendrick Lamar’s inflammatory “Like That” verse detonated like a bomb on hip-hop, drawing focus to his and Drake’s impending war. However, that didn’t stop Sean from releasing “Precision,” along with a slew of appearances to remind fans he’s on the same level. Features with Jessie Reyez and Eminem, and a Tiny Desk Concert, kept Sean’s buzz alive, but his freestyle for On The Radar almost landed him in the middle of the beef.

Better Me Than You leaked online, and while some fans think Kanye West is trying to sabotage his old artist, Sean thinks that theory is “bullsh*t.” His latest single, “On Up,” focused on the positives of his life — specifically, fatherhood — so it looks like he’s keeping it positive as we wait for that extra two weeks to hear what he’s got planned.
