Diddy Reportedly May Join The List Of Buyers Interested In Purchasing A Majority Stake In BET

The potential buyers’ pool of those interested in holding a major stake in BET has grown by one. Although the cable network has begun to roll out new original programming, including Mary J. Blige’s talk show The Wine Down, the rumors that its majority stake shares are up for grabs continue to flood social media.

First, Variety reported that media moguls Tyler Perry, who already owns a minority stake in the company, along with Byron Allen, were entering the talks as the Paramount Global Explores (who currently holds the majority sake) was open to selling. Now, Diddy (real name Sean Combs) is entering the chat. According to Hollywood Reporter, the serial entrepreneur has expressed interest in the bid, which will expand his media empire.

Diddy has owned the media outlet Revolt TV for nearly a decade now. Although he was at one point the face of reality television programming at MTV, the entertainer has been an avid supporter of the network. In fact, last year, at the network’s annual award ceremony, Diddy was given a lifetime achievement award.

Regardless of who wins the bid, THR spoke with a source familiar with Paramount’s spokespeople, and they are expected to maintain a business relationship with any potential buyer.

Gervonta Davis Threatens YK Osiris Over Lil Reese Bet

Gervonta Davis just threatened YK Osiris after Lil Reese called out his poor ability to pay back his bets. Moreover, the Chicago native said that he’s betting on Tank Davis to win his next fight, and challenged Osiris via Twitter. “Somebody tell ykosiris I got @Gervontaa for whatever he tryna bet,” he tweeted over the weekend. Not only that, but Davis himself stepped in to say that Osiris better pay up this time. Overall, it seems like they’re challenging him to bet against Tank and prove that he can pay a losing bet. “And I’m knocking him out if he don’t pay,” Davis replied to Reese on the social media platform.

Furthermore, the 28-year-old pro boxer is set to face off against Ryan Garcia in a highly anticipated 12-round bout. To elaborate, the fight will take place on April 22 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. What’s more is that the boxers just wrapped up a heated press tour that stopped in New York and L.A. earlier this month. The theatrical and intense displays of competitiveness and determination only add to excitement around the Showtime Sports PPV event.

Gervonta Davis YK Osiris If Lil Reese Bet Doesn’t Work Out

However, any mention of the word “bet” used to scare YK Osiris due to his shoddy past wagers. For example, he notoriously owed money to rappers like Drake, French Montana, Young Thug, Lil Baby, and more for his moves. Still, it would be one thing if he simply had bad luck and lost a lot of dough. Unfortunately, though, these issues seem to stem from late payments and unfulfilled promises. Still, that’s all in the past (at least hopefully), as the rapper said he was free of debt at the start of last year (fun fact: he wasn’t).

“I’m going shopping today about to take my son shopping today,” the “Worth It” artist said in a clip as he drove with his son. “You know we debt-free, man. Taking my son shopping today. We gon’ spend that money.” Hopefully he gets to support whoever he wants in Davis versus Garcia and has the bucks to match Reese’s boasts. Regardless, stick around on HNHH for the latest on Gervonta Davis, Lil Reese, and YK Osiris.

Diddy Eyes Majority Stake In BET: Report

Diddy joined the billionaire club last year as Ye lost a significant portion of his net worth. However, it looks like Diddy’s aiming to expand his empire further. According to Variety, Diddy expressed interest in buying a majority stake in BET as Paramount Global began to look at selling the network. Though sources close to the situation claim Paramount Global has yet to have meetings with anyone surrounding the sale of BET, there are already a few prominent figures who are looking to take over the iconic network.

Diddy joins the likes of Tyler Perry and Byron Allen who are vying to purchase BET Media Group, which includes BET, BET+, VH1, and BET Studios. A source close to Diddy revealed that he wants to take over BET. They said he’s “exploring the opportunity to purchase BET as a part of his strategy to build a Black-owned global media powerhouse.” Given that he already runs Revolt TV, it seems like the acquisition of BET could allow Diddy to develop even bigger projects beyond the numerous successful shows on his network already.

As Diddy continues to uplift and support Black-owned businesses, the acquisition of BET could mark a huge move for the mogul and the culture at large. Sources close to Diddy said that acquiring BET would mark its return as a Black-owned business – an integral aspect that he believes is “better for the business, for the culture, and for building wealth in the Black community.” It’s no doubt that if Diddy becomes the owner, the hip-hop community will rally together to transform BET into one of the biggest channels.

Wall Street Journal first reported on Paramount’s potential sale of BET last week. “The decision to consider selling a majority stake of the assets, which cater primarily to Black audiences, is part of the entertainment giant’s effort to shore up resources to bolster its flagship Paramount+ streaming service and its advertiser-supported free streaming platform Pluto TV, some of the people said,” the report reads. We’ll keep you posted on any more updates surrounding the potential acquisition of BET. Sound off in the comments with your thoughts.

Tyler Perry Vying For Ownership Of BET: Report

Director and producer Tyler Perry is in talks with Paramount Global to purchase a majority stake in its BET business. Back in 2000, Paramount (Viacom at the time) purchased the BET Network for 2.3 billion dollars. The entertainment mogul currently owns a minority stake in the company which includes BET and VH1. He produces much of the content on BET and the streaming service BET+, which he helped launch in 2019. So what does it mean if Tyler Perry owns BET?

Perry has a deep history with BET, which was the first cable network to cater to Black audiences. He has multiple shows on the network and its streaming service including, Sistas, The Oval, and the latest Zatima. With control over a widely distributed cable channel, ownership in the company would give him expansion into the media space. For Perry, the deal would solidify a digital imprint for his content.

Tyler Perry In Talks To Buy Majority Stake In BET

Additionally, Paramount would acquire the cash to spend on programming for Paramount+ and Pluto TV, its free ad-supported streaming service. Bryon Allen, The Weather Channel owner, is also in talks to purchase a majority stake in the company. A representative for the mogul reports that he is pursuing the acquisition of the network. The sources added that if a deal closes, Paramount expects to maintain a minority stake in the business, as well as a commercial relationship. Producers Kenya Barris and Rashida Jones are reportedly minority shareholders in BET Studios. BET Media Group is run by its CEO Scott Mills.

The Wall Street Journal reports that “The decision to consider selling a majority stake of the assets, which cater primarily to Black audiences, is part of [Paramount’s] effort to shore up resources to bolster its flagship Paramount+ streaming service and its advertiser-supported free streaming platform Pluto TV”. Earlier this year, Paramount announced a rebrand, combining Showtime with Paramount, merging the two into its streamer Paramount+. The move led to drastic leadership changes and layoffs company-wide. Drake & Tom Brady Show Huge Support To Jon Jones Before UFC Win

Tom Brady and Drake just showed their support to Jon Jones ahead of his UFC 285 victory on Saturday (March 4) in differing ways. On one end, the 6 God made two massive bets on Jones, one to win by knockout and another to win by submission. As Jones won by the latter, the Canadian artist nabbed an estimated $1,700,000 in his total payout. Moreover, he shared the bets on Instagram ahead of his showdown against Ciryl Gane to claim the heavyweight title. Overall, it seems like the good luck paid off, with even Conor McGregor calling it a “nice bet.”

On the other hand, the NFL star proclaimed Jones was the best to ever do it in a video ahead of the match. “Hey Jon, I wanted to say welcome back to the main stage,” he expressed in a video shared by UFC. “It’s great to see the GOAT doing what he does best and doing what he’s meant to do. I thought seven titles was a lot, you doubled it man. I know tonight’s not gonna be easy with Ciryl Gane standing on the other side of that octagon, he’s a bad man. It’s gonna be an incredible fight.”

Drake Makes Big Bets

Furthermore, Jones made a stellar return to the octagon after three years off. Many consider him one of the greatest in mixed martial arts, and this face-off marks the fulfillment of a long process of seeking transition into the heavyweight class. Moreover, his last stoppage victory came against Alexander Gustafsson back in 2018 in a fourth-round knockout. Against Gane, he landed an early attack and performed a guillotine choke that made him submit.

Meanwhile, Drake’s bets could’ve actually resulted in some bad luck, instead. While the rapper’s a big better, he faced a lot of criticism for backing losers and giving the “Drake Curse,” most recently with Jake Paul. Drizzy bet on Paul to knock out Tommy Fury, which ultimately didn’t pan out. Still, at least he placed his winning bets on one of the MMA’s icons and not one of the more controversial recent figures in contact sports. Regardless, check out Brady’s message below and return to HNHH for the latest on Drake, Jon Jones, and Tom Brady.

Jake Paul Jokes That Drake Is To Blame For Loss To Tommy Fury

Jake Paul joked that his loss to Tommy Fury was a result of the Drake curse after the rapper bet $400,000 that he’d knock out Fury at Diriyah Arena in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia. Paul reacted to Drake’s sizable bet while speaking with reporters after the match. Fury ended up winning by a split decision (74-75, 76-73, 76-73).

“F–k. This is Drake’s fault,” Paul said in a sarcastic tone. “Drake, bro, why did you do this to me?” From there, he apologized to the Toronto rapper for letting him down. “It’s my fault,” he admitted. “$400,000 is nothing to him. He has won a lot more money betting on me before. He’s probably about even now.” Paul also hinted at a rematch with Fury, adding, “Sorry, Drake. I’ll get that W in the rematch.”

Drake and Paul have interacted multiple times over the years. Back in 2021, he revealed on his brother Logan’s podcast that the rapper DM’d him after one of his fights. “Drake DM’d me last night,” he said on the Impaulsive podcast. “[It was] one of the best moments of my life. He says, ‘You’re a demon crow, wow. How much you make for a one-minute set tonight?’” Then, in 2022, Paul shared a picture with Drake while welcoming in the new year.

As for the rest of his comments after the fight, Paul also confirmed that he’s interested in a rematch. “All respect to Tommy, he won,” he said. “Don’t judge me by my wins, judge me by my losses. We deserve that rematch. I don’t know that I agree [with the scorecards]. I got a 10-8 round twice. … So, this is definitely a humbling experience. I’ll take it on the chin and we can run it back.” Importantly, Paul had a rematch clause included in his deal for the fight, meaning if he wants one, he should get it. Drake Bets $400k On Jake Paul To KO Tommy Fury

Drake is confident enough in Jake Paul to knock out Tommy Fury during tomorrow night’s fight that he bet $400,000 on the result. The Toronto rapper shared a picture of the bet slip on Instagram, Saturday night. “Knock knock,” Drake captioned the screenshot.

Saturday’s bet is far from the first gamble Drake has shared on social media. He’s promoted his bets on various sporting events through Stake on Instagram for years. By betting on the Chiefs in the most recent Super Bowl, Drake raked in over $2 million. It’s been reported that Drake has wagered over $1 billion since joining Stake in December 2021.

Drake’s Bet

Drake and Paul have interacted on multiple occasions in the past. In 2021, Paul revealed on his brother Logan’s podcast that the rapper DM’d him after one of his fights. “Drake DMed me last night,” he said on the Impaulsive podcast. “[It was] one of the best moments of my life. He says, ‘You’re a demon crow, wow. How much you make for a one-minute set tonight?’” Paul also shared a picture with Drake while welcoming in the new year in 2022.

As for Jake Paul’s fight against Tommy Fury, the YouTuber turned boxer recently predicted that he’ll knock out the half-brother of Tyson Fury. Speaking with Sky Sports, Paul detailed his expectations for the match. “You can expect Fury face down on the canvas, unconscious and it’s going to happen fast. Get your popcorn but don’t blink,” Paul said. “They hate on me beating Tyron Woodley. They hate on me beating Anderson Silva, not understanding that they are both 10 times better boxers than Tommy Fury. So the critics and the sheep who believe Jake Paul hasn’t fought a real boxer, someone his age, they’re technically right and this checks that off. So that’s going to be fun to shut those people up. The kid is good but he’s not great and he’s never been in there with someone who wants it more than him.” Both Paul and Fury are currently undefeated in the ring. Their fight is scheduled for 2:00 PM, ET on Sunday. It will air live on Showtime in the U.S.

Jake Paul & Tommy Fury Make Massive Bet

Jake Paul and Tommy Fury are gearing up to fight one another on Sunday. Overall, this is going to be a massive fight for both of these men. As many of you already know, these two are both undefeated. However, they are each facing different criticisms and demons. For instance, Paul has yet to fight a real boxer and fans want him to finally do so. Moreover, Tommy Fury is living in the shadow of his brother Tyson, and they want him to break free from that association.

With the fight set to take place in just a few days from now, both Paul and Fury are in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The two got to partake in their pre-fight press conference, and as you can imagine, it was a whole lot of fun. Both of them were getting into it, and when they did the face-to-face pose, there was a bit of a scuffle. Overall, it is everything you would come to expect from a Paul and Fury press conference. Although, there was one more interesting tidbit that bears explaining.

Jake Paul Vs Tommy Fury

According to TMZ, Paul proposed a bet between the two. The bet is quite simple as the winner is going to take all of the earnings. In the video clip up above, you can see that it was Paul who proposed the bet. Additionally, the two shook on it which goes to show that Fury is serious about it. Subsequently, the two need to drum up some paperwork to make this official. Of course, it isn’t the first time Paul has made a wager with an opponent. He did something similar with Tyron Woodley, which led to Woodley getting an embarrassing tattoo.

At this point, this fight is extremely difficult to predict. However, it is clear that both of these men desperately want to win the fight. For Paul, this could be the moment that defines him as a boxer. For Fury, this could completely shatter his future in the sport. Let us know who you think will come out on top, in the comments below. Black Thought Delivers “Love Letter To Hip Hop” Freestyle

Black Thought has recorded a new freestyle in partnership with BET to celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. The five-minute piece, titled “A Love Letter To Hip Hop,” was directed by Benny Boom and released on Tuesday. Black Thought discussed the video in a statement provided to Rolling Stone afterward.

“Extraordinary ethos / Takeoff from the Migos / to become entire ecosystems / It’s wild / to think about how long people have listened,” Black Thought raps. “Now, 50 years down the line / we could spark this / my eternal beloved / hip-hop is where our hearts live.” He references countless other artists including Salt-N-Peppa, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, and many more. The track arrives after Black Thought participated in the star-studded 50th-anniversary celebration at the Grammys earlier this month.

The Love Letter To Hip Hop

“This is a Love Letter to Hip-Hop for me because hip-hop is the love of my life. No matter what medium that it is that you’re working in. If you’re painting a picture, if you’re writing a book, if you’re writing a song,” Black Thought said. “Those works of art that resonate the most are when you actually pour your true self into it. I remember a time before hip hop and it’s something that we need to cherish and appreciate and not take for granted because it’s not guaranteed. Even though it’s always been there for people for the past few generations, it’s not guaranteed that it’s going to always be there if we don’t, you know what I’m saying, treat it the way we’re supposed to and continue to pour ourselves and to invest into it in an authentic way.”

Kimberly Paige, EVP and CMO of BET, also praised hip-hop’s ability to influence culture both nationally and globally. “Since its inception in 1973, Hip Hop is a driving force that continues to influence culture nationally and globally. Rooted in self-expression, its impact on music, fashion, art, and business is unmatched. BET is celebrating the genre’s tremendous contributions, legends, and future icons all year long. The powerful and mesmerizing message in Black Thought’s prose celebrates the origin of the Hip Hop movement and leaders who continue to express the power and diversity of the lived Black experience,” he said.
