Tonight (June 30), the 2024 BET Awards was about giving entertainers their flowers. The most notable honorary of the evening was Usher. As the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, several other musicians joined in on the celebration.

Uproxx cover star Chlöe, Childish Gambino, Keke Palmer, Coco Jones, Tinashe, Teyana Taylor, and more paid tribute to Usher with special performances of his greatest hits. Despite the jammed-packed lineup, following the set, users online shared their mixed reviews of what they witnessed.

The biggest gripe folks had on Twitter was the actual acts selected to take the stage. Continue below to read a few of their responses.

“Hopefully Usher gets a better tribute at the #GRAMMYs cause this wasn’t it. #BETAwards,” wrote one user.

Tyla Embraced Her Inner Lioness (NSFW Body Paint And All) At The 2024 BET Awards With A Performance Of ‘Jump’

Tyla’s self-titled debut album has received raved reviews, from fans and Uproxx alike. Unfortunately, supporters weren’t album to enjoy any of the songs from the project after she was forced to cancel her supporting tour.

But tonight (June 30), supporters from around the world were able to witness what could’ve been. Alongside her collaborators, Gunna and Skillibeng, Tyla performed her single, “Jump.” To pay homage to her South African heritage (as shown in the track’s official video), the set was filled with nods to the motherland.

There was no water to be found, but there was plenty of nature element. Surrounded by a mock safari display, Tyla’s background dancers even assumed the role of lioness trapped in a cage with NSFW body art. But even the box couldn’t hold Tyla’s slithery dance moves.

Tyla found viral success thanks to her liquid and booty jump combination seen in the official video for “Water.” But she has much more than one-legged twerking in her choreography bag. She can wine, twerk, but most importantly sing live. As the budding amapiano pop crossover princess, Tyla’s vocal ability can’t be ignored. Earlier in the evening, Tyla took home the awards for Best New Artist and Best International Act, so it certainly didn’t go unnoticed.

Ice Spice Was All About Butts And Farts During Her 2024 BET Awards Performance Medley

Ice Spice has undoubtedly been one of hip-hop’s biggest rising stars of the past couple years. The whole time, along with her undeniable bars, she has made use of her sex appeal. A combination of both factors fueled her 2024 BET Awards performance.

The performance opened up with “Phat Butt” and Ice made the moment all about the song’s namesake on a gas station set. She then kept things in backside territory by moving onto “Think U The Sh*t (Fart)” to wrap up her two-song medley.

Ice is about a month away from the release of her upcoming album, Y2K, the cover art of which saw a bit of criticism. Starting in a few days, she’ll also be heading out on tour in support of the album, alongside Cash Cobain. This is all going down as she gears up to star alongside Denzel Washington in an upcoming movie.

Ice Spice has three nominations at this year’s awards. Her and Nicki Minaj’s “Barbie World” is up for Best Collaboration, Ice herself is up for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist, and “Barbie World” is also up for Video Of The Year.

Latto Delivers A Feline-Fierce, Twerk-Filled Performance Of ‘Big Mama’ And ‘Sunday Service’ At The 2024 BET Awards

Latto started the year with a few sour words for her foes on tracks like “Sunday Service.” But Latto leaving the bitterness behind to enjoy her recent successes, which includes making history at Birthday Bash ATL 2024 as the event’s first woman headliner.

During the 2024 BET Awards, Latto took another victory lap. With the “Big Mama” rapper’s Sugar Honey Iced Tea album on the way, she used the stage to delivery a sweet offering of what to come.

Tonight (June 30), Latto performed a medley of an unreleased song, “Sunday Service,” and “Big Mama” with her sister Brooklyn Nikole cheering her on in the front row.

Last year, Latto took home the Best Female Hip-Hop Artist award and put it all on the floor with a showing of her then viral hit. So, today, it was only right to outdo herself.

Dripped in diamonds and fur, Latto that she’s come a long way since her time on the music competition show, The Rap Game. Latto referenced the series in the opening snippet. But that wasn’t the only throwback deep cut she spotlighted. Dressed in a silk leopard set, Latto thumbed her nose at jokes about her only owning animal print undergarments with a savage twerk session.

Megan Thee Stallion Delivers A Heated Medley Of Favorites For Her 2024 BET Awards Performance

Megan Thee Stallion is delivering the heat on and off the microphone. With the “Down Stairs DJ” rapper’s latest album, Megan, out on streaming platforms, fans are joining in on the lyrical flames.

Tonight (June 30) at the 2024 BET Awards, the H-town hottie brought her Hot Girl Summer Tour to Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater.

To open the show, Megan took to the stage with a scorching melody of her latest tracks. As she broke free from her shell (in this case, a mock snake egg), Megan began with “Hiss.” Although, the evening’s host, Taraji P. Henson, promised the evening would be about love, the crowd remembers the origins of the striking.

When the track first dropped, Megan had a lot to get off of her chest against her ex-boyfriend Pardi, frenemy Nicki Minaj, Tory Lanez, and more.

Next up, “Boa,” the follow-up to “Hiss.” Megan was joined by an army of dancers to help shake the stage with a thunderous twerk session. To close out the set, decided to pivot to a newer song, “Where Them Girls At.”

Despite it being a fresh release, online users have already crowned it a fan favorite, and based off the audience’s response it might be true.

Cardi B Slammed The ‘P*ssy Ass’ Production Team Of BET Experience 2024 After Her Set Was Riddled With Technical Issues

As the kids say, Cardi B is back outside. The “Enough (Miami)” rapper is positioning herself to release her long-awaited sophomore album.

Yesterday (June 28) Cardi put her best foot forward during the BET Experience 2024 concert series. Unfortunately, in Cardi’s eyes, the set didn’t have the bang she wanted. So, during the show, she took a moment to slam the production team in charge of her stage effects.

“Production, y’all messing up my pyros,” she said. “Y’all messing up my music. F*ck am I paying y’all p*ssy ass n****s for? What am I paying y’all for?”

While many fans jumped to the defensive, others, including YouTuber Milagro Gramz, weren’t fond of her comments. “I understand that people have families to feed, but I wished we lived in a better world because no one should ever be disrespected like this in a workplace environment/at all,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Cardi immediately clapped back. “Girl shut up,” she wrote. “When you do a show you don’t pay after, you pay before. I paid 350,000 up front the least they could do is get my pyro ready and turn the fans on because guess what??? At the end of the day, that money is not returnable… don’t half ass my show because you comfortable when I definitely don’t half ass when it comes to paying.”

The two went on to get in a heated exchange over resurfaced commentary from the YouTuber. View the exchange below.

Cardi B closed out by doubling down on her onstage remark after a supporter backed her. Read her detailed about of the technical issues below.

Thank you for understanding. Let me tell you about yesterday! I spent $100k on pyro, that we couldn’t use because the production team failed to have the fire marshall go over safety with my team which is so simple to do. Spent days in rehearsal learning choreography just for them to have the wrong mix, and we had to swap it out. Booked four fans so they could be turned on during ‘Bartier Cardi’ and that never happened. You wanna know why? Because they didn’t bother to show up to rehearsal while hundred thousands of dollars was put into this show. Don’t play with my money in this economy, honey.

The 2024 BET Awards are scheduled for June 30. Hopefully by then, the production team has ironed out any technical hiccups for the other acts.

Who Is Performing At The 2024 BET Awards?

This Sunday (June 30) at 8 p.m., all eyes will be on BET as the 2024 BET Awards take place. We know who’s nominated: That was announced in May, and leading the pack are Drake, Nicki Minaj, J. Cole, Sexyy Red, SZA, Victoria Monét, 21 Savage, Beyoncé, Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, Tyla, and Usher.

The other big piece of the puzzle is who is set to perform during the broadcast. Well, now we know.

Who’s Performing At The 2024 BET Awards?

It was announced today (June 26) that Megan Thee Stallion has joined the lineup, as she’ll perform to open the show.

Meanwhile, added to the lineup two days ago was Will Smith, who is set to perform a new original song.

Also performing during the broadcast will be GloRilla, Ice Spice, Latto, Lauryn Hill and YG Marley, Muni Long, Sexyy Red, Shaboozey, Tyla, and Victoria Monét. Tanner Adell will also perform, on the BET Amplified stage.

Usher, meanwhile, will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement BET Award. Taraji P. Henson is returning to host the show.

Aside from getting ready for the BET Awards, Megan also just had a fresh Amazon Prime Day ad campaign drop, which included a brand-new song made specifically for the commercial.
