Summer Walker Praised For Stunning Feature On Childish Gambino’s “Sweetest Thang”

Earlier this week, the ever-so-talented Childish Gambino sort of surprised everyone earlier this week by releasing Atavista. We say sort of because most artists do not drop big projects on Mondays, but this effort was known to be coming soon. The California native describes this as his updated version of the 2020 project 3.15.20. Ultimately, the mixing was improved, tracks were added and subtracted, and new guests were brought into the fray. One of those fresh faces included Atlanta R&B songstress Summer Walker.

Her vocal talents were added to the seven-minute ballad about Gambino not understanding why his partner continue to loves him. Conversely, Summer reaffirms her affection on the outro in which they harmonize. “I just wanna say thank you / ‘Cause I love you, mm, mm (Love you),” she repeats. It is easily one of the most, if not the most stunning track on the album and fans are taking notice online.

The Neighborhood Talk gathered some tweets and everyone agrees that Summer has a gorgeous voice. “Oh he really put summer walker on sweetest thang.. it’s beautiful😫,” one user writes. “Summer Walker on here is EVERYTHING,” another adds. The song has some breathtaking church organ sections woven into the instrumental and when she pops in, it takes it to another level. She was definitely a natural fit, as Summer has shown interest in gospel music throughout her career. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she mentioned what she keeps in rotation from the genre. “”I have a very, very, very large playlist and I do not know the names of anything. I just listen to it… It’s like a bunch of gospel.”

What are your thoughts on the praise that Summer Walker is getting for her feature on Childish Gambino’s “Sweetest Thang” off Atavista? Is this one of her strongest guest performances of her career, why or why not? Is this the best song from Gambino’s new album? Did she have the best feature on the record? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Childish Gambino “Atavista” Is Here: What Has Changed Since “3.15.20”?

Childish Gambino released his long-awaited project Atavista on May 13. The album delivers on his years-old promise that the full project would eventually see the light of day. Fans quickly took note of the fact that the album is a reissue of his 2020 release 3.15.20. Gambino released the original album, named for its release date, in an unfinished state. Despite its highlights, 3.15.20 contained choppy vocal mixing, timestamps in place of song titles, and no album cover whatsoever. Childish Gambino has clarified in recent appearances that he always intended to clean the project up and release Atavista as a finished work, explaining that he initially dropped the unmixed and unmastered edition as a precaution, fearing the world would collapse due to the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic.

Now that Childish Gambino has officially delivered Atavista in all its glory, he has meticulously fine-tuned each track. The choppy 3.15.20 mixes have been subsequently nixed from streaming libraries. However, Childish Gambino has made numerous changes since releasing 3.15.20 over four years ago, making Atavista a new and interesting listen for fans of all stripes. Let’s dive into the biggest differences between the two projects, and highlight these changes for fans who may not be overly familiar with the original release.

Some Tracks Are Missing

The biggest change from 3.15.20 to Atavista by far is the absence of 3 tracks from the original tracklist. Childish Gambino removed the 2018 single “Feels Like Summer,” a melodic harmony-heavy intro assumed to be titled “We Are,” and a thumping, pulsating track titled “Warlords.” While “Warlords” and “We Are” never fully materialized as concepts, “Feels Like Summer” acted as a leading single, making its removal highly peculiar. Despite this, “Feels Like Summer” remains listed on streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music under the banner of the Summer Pack bundle, along with its companion track “Summertime Magic.”

Other tracks from the original release are still present in their cleaned-up state, though many of them have been abridged. One defining characteristic of 3.15.20 was the frequent and in-depth transitions between tracks. Childish Gambino has shortened or entirely eliminated many of these transitions on Ativista. The most significant instance of this change is the track “Why Go To The Party,” originally titled “39.28.” The new album condenses the song from a full 3-minute track into a 41-second interlude. For now, the only way to stream the tracks in their original form is to check out the original YouTube upload “Childish Gambino – 3.15.20.”

Some New Tracks Were Added

Before you go thinking that Childish Gambino was overly downsizing when he finalized Atavista, be sure to check out the brand new songs which have never been available to stream before. The title track, which serves as the new intro, originally premiered live on stage back in 2018, generating a great deal of fanfare. Similarly, despite teasing it numerous times in the past several years, Bino exclusively includes the song “Human Sacrifice” on Atavista. “Human Sacrifice” has been one of the most sought-after songs in Childish Gambino’s entire illustrious career. Numerous leaks of the track have surfaced online. Childish Gambino performed the soon-to-be hit live during his 2018 tour, and a snippet featured in a 2019 Google Pixel 3 ad. This hype inspired droves of fans to demand an official release.

Gambino Has Recruited Some Fresh Guests

While artists such as Ariana Grande and 21 Savage appeared on the original 3.15.20, Childish Gambino has recruited a pair of new vocal guests to bless the official Atavista release. Summer Walker provides some heavenly harmonies on the track “Sweet Thang.” Likewise, Young Nudy drops by for a highly polarizing closing verse on “Little Foot Big Foot.” The latter track was released with a new music video ahead of the Atavista drop, offering fans a first look at the new and improved single. The video, directed by frequent Childish Gambino collaborator Hiro Murai, serves as the first visual of Atavista. Gambino claims there will be visuals for each track on the project, rolling out alongside a special-edition vinyl.

Childish Gambino’s long-awaited plan of dropping Atavista as he always intended has already paid off. Still, it’s certainly a shame that the original 3.15.20 version was removed from streaming platforms. Regardless, the new project is the first music we’ve received from Bino in over 4 years, so that’s a win. Fans around the world have flocked to analyze the music, the fascinating soundscapes, and marvel at the newly-released visuals.

Childish Gambino Officially Releases A Fan-Favorite With “Human Sacrifice”

Childish Gambino is the hot topic today, as fans are rejoicing now that Atavista is finally here. He uncharacteristically dropped the tweaked version of 3.15.20 on a Monday. But we sure as heck are not going to complain about getting this before New Music Friday. The California native dropped the original rendition back in March of 2020, but it turns out it was just a placeholder for this project in front of us. Even though this just hit streaming, we have been thoroughly enjoying the efforts of Childish Gambino on “Human Sacrifice.”

For many loyal fans of his, this has been a long time coming. “Human Sacrifice,” according to Genius, was first performed all the way back in 2018. It was played at the start of the This Is America Tour, which kicked off in Duluth, Georgia. The next time listeners heard a glimpse of the sought after record would be in 2019 during an advertisement to promote the Google Pixel phone. However, people were disappointed and quite hopeless that the song would get a release after not making it on 3.15.20.

But it is now officially out six years later, and the reception has been positive. We can see why this song was beloved right from the jump, as the tropical-like drums and melody are ear-grabbing. The writing is simple, but this song is more about the vocals and the atmosphere it creates. Gambino brings a passionate performance across the progressive instrumental, as he sings about the indescribable feelings of loneliness and receiving love.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new song “Human Sacrifice” by Childish Gambino? Is this the best track from his new album Atavista, why or why not? Where do you rank this project amongst the rest of his catalog? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Childish Gambino’s “Little Foot Big Foot” Music Video Is Another Thought-Provoking Masterclass

When you think about the rappers who go above and beyond to provide layered art who do you think about? For us Childish Gambino immediately comes to mind. Over the course of his illustrious career, the 40-year-old has made it his mission to deliver some truly thought-provoking material. Of course, one of his greatest feats was “This Is America” and its commentary on social issues across the country. That six-year-old track will go down as one of the most iconic moments in hip-hop history and is certainly a defining moment of rap in the 2010s. Today, he is looking to make another statement with the music video for his “new” track “Little Foot Big Foot.”

We say that because this one of the tracks off his album Atavista, which is an improvement over 3.15.20. Previously known as “35.21,” “Little Foot Big Foot” is sure to be one the most popular songs due to its catchy chorus and inclusion of Young Nudy. However, this song is more than that. Even though the instrumental and groove are very upbeat, the lyrics are extremely dark and talk about violence, moving drugs, etc. Gambino, and his fictional musical trio called Johnny and the Pipes, look to wow a cutthroat crowd at a nightclub with this song.

Watch “Little Foot Big Foot ” Music Video

The audience is thoroughly unimpressed with their efforts up until a man observing this performance gets upset with Gambino after he steals a puff from the bystander’s cigarette. The elderly man charges at him with a gun and attempts to kill Gambino, the man winds up biting the dust instead. After some uncomfortable silence is broken by another audience member’s maniacal laughter, everyone starts enjoying the performance. It becomes memorable due to an unfortunate event and not because of the show being put on by the artist. It says a lot about how we sadly love violence so much.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new music video for “Little Foot Big Foot” by Childish Gambino? Is this the best track from his new album Atavista, why or why not? Where do you rank this project amongst the rest of his catalog? Is this his most creative set of visuals ever? Childish Gambino is one of the many major artists looking to make 2024 a special year for the hip-hop world. He has been absolutely killing it in the film industry, but now he is back in full swing music wise. Now, Childish Gambino is going to be embarking on a world tour, possibly for both of these projects.

Donald Glover’s New Childish Gambino Album ‘Atavista’ Is Here, Along With A Quinta Brunson-Starring Video

Yesterday (May 12), fans uncovered some info about Atavista, an upcoming Childish Gambino project from Donald Glover, and it turned out to be true: Glover released the album at midnight today.

He wrote on social media, “this album is the finished version of ‘3.15.20’, the album i put out 4 years ago. there’s a special vinyl coming soon w/ visuals for each song. the all new childish gambino album comes out in the summer.”

There’s also a new video for the Young Nudy collab “Little Foot Big Foot.” The visual itself is a collaboration between two TV comedy icons: Glover (of Community and Atlanta) and Quinta Brunson (of Abbott Elementary), the latter of whom plays the role of a club manager. The black-and-white visual takes place in the swing music era and sees Glover as part of a band playing at a club to unimpressed patrons. Partway through, though, things take an unexpected twist.

Glover has been teasing a lot lately. He announced a tour in April, but just the existence of it and nothing specific like dates or cities. Also that month, he explained, “We’re releasing Atavista, but after that, there’s the final Childish Gambino album — a soundtrack for the fans.”

Donald Glover shared some exciting news yesterday. More specifically, he started by sharing exciting news about exciting news: He announced a GILGA Radio Instagram livestream, on which he promised to share some new music. Now that the broadcast has come and gone, we know some more about what the end of Childish Gambino will look like.

During the show, Glover revealed that there are two more Gambino projects on the way, saying, “We’re releasing Atavista, but after that, there’s the final Childish Gambino album — a soundtrack for the fans.” Elsewhere in the broadcast was a teaser for the “original soundtrack” to Bando Stone & The New World, which will serve as that final Gambino album.

Glover teased Atavista a month ago, and it is set to be a re-worked version of his 2020 album 3/15/20. As was indicated, the Bando Stone project is set to accompany a new movie. Elsewhere during the project, Glover also noted that he’s working on an anime project alongside Zach Fox.

Last year, Glover told E! News, “I’m making music right now, I love it. I’m actually working, I’m in the studio. I’ve been bringing people in, like secret people, working on little things. But I just been, you know, making it for fun right now. But soon something will happen, I promise. Something will happen.”

Mr. & Mrs. Smith star Donald Glover has crafted a rather impressive resume of onscreen work (which he doesn’t mind bragging about). But what most people tend to forget is he’s also a musician. So it looks as if Glover plans to gently remind the public of his musical talents quite soon.

Yesterday (March 15), on his Instagram page, he decided on his film, television, and production work. He shared an update on his next body of work. The screenshot seemed to tease that Glover’s rapper persona, Childish Gambino, has a new album titled Atavista on the way.

The supposed project’s name wasn’t the only thing revealed in the photo. Based on the graphic, the run time for the forthcoming album and the entire tracklist was displayed for followers to comb over.
