Tory Lanez’s Latest Claims About Megan Thee Stallion Shooting Debunked By The State

The state has responded to Tory Lanez’s latest petition, saying his claim that the gun can’t be tested for DNA because it’s missing is “demonstrably false.” In a declaration caught by reporter Meghann Cuniff on Tuesday, the state of California wrote that Lanez failed to provide “reasonably available documentary evidence” to support his claim.

“His failure to do so is especially troubling because his factual assertion that the firearm, casings, and bullet fragments are ‘missing’ is contradicted by the attached declaration from Martin Preciado, which avers that his query of the computer system for the Los Angeles Police Department (‘LAPD’) shows that LAPD still has custody of the firearm and the firearm’s magazine, as well as the casings and fragments that were booked into evidence,” the filing reads.

The latest update comes after Megan Thee Stallion’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, previously confirmed that the gun and its ammunition magazine are with the Los Angeles Police Department in an interview in October. In other news, Megan recently filed a lawsuit against blogger Milagro Gramz. She accuses her of allegedly spreading false information about the case on social media. The two have proposed going to trial on July 21, 2025, unless a settlement is reached beforehand.

Tory Lanez’s Appeal Motion In Court Gets Crucial Clarifying Update

Tory Lanez got a massive update in his search for an appeal over his conviction for shooting Megan Thee Stallion a couple of years ago. On Wednesday (October 23), his legal team filed a petition for a writ of habeas corpus, which would basically result in a federal court’s deliberation and eventual ruling on whether or not the state is lawfully imprisoning an individual or not. Then, the court announced on Friday (October 25) that they will consider both this habeas corpus petition along with the Canadian artist’s pending appeal and a previous motion for writ of habeas corpus. The Attorney General will file a preliminary response to the current habeas corpus petition on or before November 20.

However, online sources alleged that this meant the appellate court deemed Tory Lanez as innocent, which is completely false according to journalist Meghann Cuniff. “All the court did was consolidate Lanez’s habeas petition and his actual appeal,” she explained on Twitter. “They haven’t ruled on anything yet and it’s pathetic that this trash website amplifies outright lies, even when the court document is right there staring everyone in the face.”

Tory Lanez’s Appeal Gets Cleared Up: See Thread

Furthermore, Meghann Cuniff also clarified that this is a wholly new writ of habeas corpus petition from Tory Lanez and his team. The one they filed last year about the driver in the Megan Thee Stallion incident’s statement reportedly never got a response from the Attorney General. On Monday (October 28), the actual new petition will most likely be available for everyone to see for themselves, according to Cuniff. Specifically, she pointed to the phrase “good reason appearing” as a possible reason for the Internet’s confusion and misinterpretation. The reporter clarified that this only means that the court finds that it’s important to consider both the appeal and the habeas corpus petition as a joint deliberation.

In addition, Meghann Cuniff also relayed that the Attorney General’s office already responded to Tory Lanez’s primary appeal motion. They once again called to attention a main piece of evidence against him: his phone call to Kelsey Harris from jail on July 12, 2020 after the Megan Thee Stallion shooting. We will see what the court concludes concerning these appeal and habeas corpus considerations.

R Kelly Statute Of Limitations Appeal Gets Rejected By Supreme Court

About two and a half months ago, disgraced R&B act R Relly filed an appeal to the Supreme Court for his federal sex crimes. Him and his attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, were making the statute of limitations argument. As we said previously, they pointed to the PROTECT Act of 2003 and how it’s not applicable. Bonjean presented to prosecutors that the act has no clause explicitly stating that Kelly should have been charged for his alleged actions based on them occurring in the 1990s.

The court responded back with the fact that the PROTECT Act extends the statute of limitations indefinitely for alleged crimes committed post 2003. Back then, the Supreme Court said it would take a little while to come to a decision. Well, that time is now, according to HOLLYWOOD UNLOCKED and Yahoo! News. For R Kelly, he looks to be in no-man’s-land, as they have decided to reject this appeal.

R Kelly Looks To Be Done After Latest Appeal

Overall, both sources say that it was shut down without any form of comment from anyone. This decision was made following the government refusing to speak on why they came to this conclusion. Again, this is all in connection to his Chicago charges. Now, with this appeal being denied, R Kelly appears to not have much a chess move to make.

What are your thoughts on R Kelly’s appeal being shut down by the Supreme Court? Do you think he’s officially cooked now, why or why not? If not, what could his next move be? Diddy & His Legal Team Seek Appeal After Court Denies His Release Request

The court previously denied Diddy release from jail on bond on two separate occasions in his sex trafficking case, but it looks like his legal team will continue to fight for it. Moreover, according to court documents obtained by journalist Meghann Cuniff, his lawyers filed a notice of appeal on Monday (September 30) concerning Judge Andrew Carter’s decision to deny their requests for a release under any circumstance ahead of his trial. In addition, Cuniff also reported that a new member joined Sean Combs’ legal team recently: an attorney by the name of Anthony Ricco. We will see in due time whether this appeal is a successful attempt.

According to court documents reportedly obtained by AllHipHop, Diddy’s lawyer Marc Agnifilo stated that they couldn’t do much more to get him out of Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, which Agnifilo described as “horrific” after failed bail attempts and a failed request to move him to Essex County. “Following the September 18, 2024 court appearance, the court ordered a status update from counsel concerning any request related to the location of Mr. Combs’ detention,” the attorney expressed. “At this point, there is no request from counsel that the court take any action.”

Diddy Appeals His Bail Denial

Furthermore, the court allegedly denied Diddy’s bond due to supposed victim intimidation and bribery. Prosecutors claim that he “used his considerable wealth and influence to make victims rely on him financially, for example, by paying for their rent or their cars or by offering them career opportunities. The bail package proposed by defense counsel is insufficient because it fails to adequately protect others from the defendant’s violence, impose measures to prevent and detect obstruction, or prevent the defendant from accessing his vast resources.”

“He’s going to clear his name and we’re going to stand by his side as he does,” Diddy’s lawyer told reporters previously, per CNN. “We believe in him wholeheartedly. He came here to turn himself in. Why doesn’t the government want him to turn himself in? Because then they can’t ask for detention. All we can do is show good faith. He got on a plane and he came here. They arrested a guy who came here to turn himself in.”

Pras’ Fails To Earn Retrial In Political Conspiracy Case After AI Scandal

Pras Michel’s attempt to get a retrial due to his lawyer’s actions during his political conspiracy case was unsuccessful. U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly decided that his defense attorney using generative AI for his closing arguments wasn’t enough to warrant a serious miscarriage of justice. The AI program notably attributed lyrics from Diddy’s song, “I’ll Be Missing You,” to Michel, among other errors. Despite this, Kollar-Kotelly didn’t feel the mistakes were enough to impact the jury’s ruling.

“Michel does not explain how this mistake—the mistaken attribution of a Puff Daddy song in the closing argument—resulted in prejudice. Specifically, Michel has not shown that there is a reasonable probability that the result of his trial would have differed had Kenner correctly attributed a lyric to him,” Kollar-Kotelly said, as caught by AllHipHop. “Notably, the content derived from the AI program did not relate to any evidence in the case, only general sympathetic statements and one lyrical quote.”

Pras Arrives At His Trial In Washington D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC – MARCH 31: Pras Michel, a member of the 1990’s hip-hop group the Fugees, arrives at U.S. District Court on March 31, 2023 in Washington, DC. Michel is on trial for his alleged participation in a campaign finance conspiracy. (Photo by Kevin Dietsch/Getty Images)

The jury in the trial found Michel guilty on a total of 10 counts. They include conspiracy and acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign government. The prosecution accused him of funneling money from Malaysian financer Jho Low into influencing various United States government actions. He allegedly pumped money into Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign as well as influencing an extradition case on behalf of China during Donald Trump’s presidency.

The judge didn’t set a date for Pras’ sentencing, but he’s currently out of jail until that happens. He recently made headlines for dropping a Lauryn Hill diss track after the Fugees canceled several tour dates. Be on the lookout for further updates on Pras Michel on HotNewHipHop.

Tory Lanez’ Appeal Case Could Be Delayed As Prosecutors Ask For Deadline Extension

Though the verdict in Tory Lanez trial for allegedly shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot was handed down last year, the trial is far from over. Earlier this year Tory’s lawyers filed a motion to get him an entire new trial. They claimed that testimony given by witnesses in the case was prejudicial and that warranted a new trial. Unfortunately for the rapper and singer, the judge shut that motion down. But that doesn’t mean he’s going to just accept his verdict.

Lanez’ lawyers followed it up with an appeal of the original ruling. For anybody hoping that the appeal process might move quickly, that doesn’t appear to be the case. Reporter Meghann Cuniff revealed that the appeal, which was first filed a few months ago, was approaching its deadline. Now the prosecutors have requested another extension for their reply. Cuniff explains that it’s almost certain to be granted, further extending the ultimate conclusion of the trial to a later date. Check out all of the details she shared on recent developments of the case below.

Tory Lanez’ Appeal Likely To Be Delayed

Though Lanez has been behind bars all year he hasn’t completely disappeared from public discourse. In fact, he even got to chime in on the details of the biggest story in rap music this year, Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s beef. He was one of the few to side with Drake in the beef, which isn’t much of a surprise given that the “Rich Baby Daddy” rapper has been an advocate for Tory’s release for a while now. At the time of Lanez’ comments Joe Budden, who relayed his information on the beef, also claimed that Lanez hadn’t necessarily heard all of the songs released by both rappers. He’s yet to give an updated take now that the entire beef has passed by.

What do you think of Tory Lanez’ continued fight to overturn his guilty conviction once again being delayed? Do you think he has any chance at freeing himself through an appeal? Let us know in the comment section below.

Harvey Weinstein Hospitalized After Overturning Of Rape Conviction: “He’s Somewhat Of A Train Wreck Health Wise”

Harvey Weinstein has reportedly been hospitalized after being examined by doctors upon his arrival at Rikers Island in New York City on Friday. His transport comes after the overturning of his 2020 rape conviction in an appeals court on Thursday. The film industry mogul’s attorney, Arthur Aidala, confirmed that his client is undergoing testing at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan.

“They examined him and sent him to Bellevue. It seems like he needs a lot of help, physically. He’s got a lot of problems, he’s getting all kinds of tests. He’s somewhat of a train wreck health wise,” Aidala said, as noted by the Associated Press. He also claimed that Weinstein is still as strong as ever mentally. Aidala further explained that it can take state corrections and prisons officials up to two weeks to transport a prisoner. “He was not treated well. They refused to give him even a sip of water, no food, no bathroom break,” he said. “He’s a 72-year-old sickly man.”

Harvey Weinstein’s Lawyer Speaks With The Press

Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein’s lawyer, Arthur Aidala, speaks to the press on April 25, 2024, in New York City. New York’s highest court on April 25 overturned Weinstein’s 2020 conviction on sex crime charges, a shock reversal in one of the defining cases of the #MeToo movement. In their 4-3 decision, Court of Appeal judges cited errors in the trial, including admitting the testimony of women who were not part of the charges against him. (Photo by KENA BETANCUR / AFP) (Photo by KENA BETANCUR/AFP via Getty Images)

A judge previously sentenced Weinstein to 23 years in prison after the initial trial. Following the court’s decision on Thursday, however, he will now get a chance at a new trial. He and his legal team argued that the original trial permitted jurors to hear too much evidence not directly related to the specific charges for which he was on trial. Emily Tuttle, a spokesperson for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, told Reuters: “We will do everything in our power to retry this case and remain steadfast in our commitment to survivors of sexual assault.”

Despite the news, Weinstein is still serving a 16-year prison sentence stemming from a conviction for rape in California in 2022. He has maintained his innocence over the years. Be on the lookout for further updates on Harvey Weinstein on HotNewHipHop.

YNW Melly Retrial At A Standstill As Prosecutors Fight To Use Documentary As Evidence

Today, YNW Melly appeared in court for a hearing in his retrial, but unfortunately, it didn’t result in any progress being made. The rapper’s defense team had filed a request to move forward with discovery, which the judge has yet to issue a ruling on. Currently, everything has been put on hold while prosecutors appeal Judge John Murphy’s decision to suppress a documentary as evidence in the trial.

The 20-minute doc is said to go over Melly’s rise to fame and was filmed just before the 2018 murders of his YNW associates, Sakchaser and Juvy. Allegedly, he’s seen holding a weapon at various points in the doc, and the murders are mentioned briefly at the very end. The state alleges that it proves Melly was at the scene of the crime. It could take months for prosecutors’ appeal to go through the appellate courts, making further delays highly likely.

YNW Melly Appears In Court

YNW Melly is accused of murdering Sakchaser and Juvy back in 2018 and staging a drive-by shooting. He first went to trial last summer, and roughly a month later, Judge John Murphy declared a mistrial. The jury failed to come to a unanimous decision on whether or not they believed the rapper was guilty. The 24-year-old has been behind bars since February 2019, when he was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He’s been denied bond and could face the death penalty if the retrial doesn’t go the way he hopes.

Today’s hearing comes after it was revealed that Melly was moved to a different facility earlier this month. For the first time in around five years, the “223’s” performer left Broward County Jail. He’s currently being held at the Paul Rein Detention Facility in Pompano Beach, FL. What do you think of no progress being made in YNW Melly’s double murder retrial? Are you surprised? R Kelly’s Child Pornography Conviction & Sentence Upheld In Chicago Court

In February of last year, R Kelly was sentenced to 20 years behind bars for alleged sex crimes involving minors. 19 of the years were to be served concurrent with the sentence he was already serving. The year prior, he was handed 30 years for a federal racketeering conviction in New York. He’s since tried to appeal his conviction and 20-year sentence in Chicago, appearing in court today to learn his fate.

The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals shot down the appeal, upholding both his child pornography conviction and sentence. The news comes after the performer’s defense argued that the statute of limitations had passed in an attempt to get the conviction dropped. Clearly, the court wasn’t buying it, highlighting the “horrible, horrific” nature of his alleged crimes.

R Kelly To Remain Behind Bars

The court also referred to his 30-year sentence for alleged racketeering out of New York as the “elephant in the room,” claiming that the alleged child pornography sentence was determined with it in mind. Kelly’s currently in the process of appealing his New York conviction. If he wins the appeal, this likely means that he’ll still serve the remaining 18 years of his sentence out of Chicago.

“Our fight is not over,” R Kelly’s lawyer Jennifer Bonjean told TMZ following the decision. “We will see review from the USSC (SCOTUS) on the statute of limitations questions at a minimum. And he has habeas remedies at his disposal. And if we win in NY. He will be entitled to resentencing in Illinois. So this story is far from over.” What do you think of R Kelly’s conviction being upheld? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Jam Master Jay’s Alleged Murderer Appeals Conviction

The murder of Jam Master Jay went unresolved for nearly two decades. Karl Jordan Jr. and Ronald “Tinard” Washington, the men allegedly behind the DJ’s death, were recently convicted. Now, however, the latter is attempting to appeal his conviction. Washington’s legal team asserts that the government has failed to provide sufficient evidence to link him to the 2002 drug conspiracy that resulted in Jam Master Jay being shot and killed. The legal team is looking to either reverse Washington’s charge or prompt a retrial.

The motion filed comes less than two months after Jordan Jr. and Washington were found guilty on ten different counts. Their legal teams made clear their intentions to appeal their convictions shortly after they were sentenced. At time of the initial ruling, federal prosecutors were confident that Jordan Jr. and Washington had murdered the Run-DMC member in “cold blood.” The prosecution alleged that Washington was a childhood friend of Jam Master Jay, and that the impetus behind Jay’s murder was a misunderstanding involving a cocaine distribution deal.

Jordan Jr. and Washington are facing a minimum of 20 years to life in prison or the death penalty. The lawyer for the latter, Susan Kellman, put forth the notion that Washington and Jam Master Jay were on the same page regarding cocaine distribution, and that a man named Jay Bryant is actually to blame for Jay’s death. Kellman also argued that Jam Master Jay tried to advocate for Washington when the deal went south. “Think about it,” the lawyer said. “Who gets killed when a drug deal fails? Is it the guy who advocates to get you into a drug deal? No.”

Jay Bryant is still awaiting trial. He’s due in court in 2026, but Associated Press claims that Bryant and his lawyer César de Castro, are considering cutting a deal with the prosecution for a lighter sentence. “[He was] involved, but he’s not the killer,” the prosecution asserted. Washington’s hope for a mistrial hinges largely on Bryant’s presumed guilt, so the next few months will be crucial. Bryant and the prosecution will file their status with the courts and presiding Judge LaShann DeArcy Hall by August 5.
