Joe Budden & Skillz Reignite Feud Over J Cole’s Beef With Kendrick Lamar

J. Cole’s apology to Kendrick Lamar over the “7 Minute Drill” response to the “Like That” verse is the bravest thing he could’ve done… and people aren’t too happy with it. While the depth of that conversation is a story for another time, the prevailing sentiment among purist hip-hop fans of old is that Cole cowered out, and now, the “streets need a body.” That’s exactly what Joe Budden recently tweeted (before the actual apology), alluding to how we’re still waiting on Drake’s response to Kendrick and that folks want to see a tough battle. But then, one of Budden’s old opponents, rapper Skillz, chimed in and provoked another spat between them, which has previously gone down circa 2021 over their respective rapping skills.

“Wild take coming from a rapper who never caught one,” Skillz tweeted back at Joe Budden. “Now Skillz…… there is NO LIVING BREATHING person that has you as a better MC than me,” Budden hit back. “& YOU can’t career shame a mosquito with a mixtape. And the one time a year ppl wanted to hear from you got stolen from you. Go be with your family.” “Now Joseph? I have never been punched in the face for any sub par bars either,” Skillz retorted. “You have taken more RAP/LIFE L’s than any rapper from Jersey. Go be Wendy Williams bro. And if YOU WERE SUCH AN AMAZING RAPPER in your PRIME? Why you become a podcaster?!? You cant ever talk bars with me.” This is ironic considering his Hip Hop Confessions podcast, something that Budden’s co-host Ice brought up against him.

Skillz Takes Shots At Joe Budden Over J. Cole’s Kendrick Lamar Apology

“ICE? Find me one ep where Im talkin about current gossip…” Skillz responded to Ice. “i talk hip hop on my pod…thats it. You think I care about what sexxy redd wore last week??” “Bro I’m just saying. You said son became a podcaster…as a podcaster,” Joe Budden’s co-host clapped back. “And if we keeping it a buck, ya description says u have folks come on to confess their secrets…know who does that? Gossip shows lol.” “I feel u ice respectfully but ….you keep bypassing the word HIP HOP tho,” Skillz added. “thats what my ish is about. Not what yall do.”

Budden Fires Back, Ice Chimes In

“I’m really not,” Ice clarified. “Go back and look at what I initially replied to. The words ‘hip-hop’ were nowhere in that tweet. You moved the goalpost afterwards.” Skillz even admitted this by replying with, “Touche I did,” and through salute and handshake emojis, it seems like this either completely resolved or they just got bored. As for Joe Budden, though, no such resolution was offered to Skillz. For more news and the latest updates on all this rap beef and these players, stay logged into HNHH.

Does J Cole’s Apology Mean Drake Is Forced To Compete With Kendrick Lamar?

The J Cole apology to Kendrick Lamar is akin to Neo taking the blue pill in many’s eyes. The only thing slightly greater than our disappointment in one of “The Big Three” refusing the lyrical competition he sought for over a decade is our respect for the higher ground of peace and love in one of the most active beef battlegrounds we’ve seen in hip-hop in a very long time, as these three aren’t the only ones feuding. Still, the retraction wasn’t entirely surprising given the one-foot-in, other-foot-out approach to previous beefs with Noname, Ye, or Wale. Also, the transphobia on Cole’s Might Delete Later cut “Pi” is garnering him more deserved heat than this walk-back. But K.Dot’s other opponent right now is not as forgiving.

Drake is battle-tested, but so far, he’s only offered vague alleged responses to DJ Akademiks, subliminal Instagram captions, and self-affirmation speeches while on tour with J. Cole. Meanwhile, following the likes of Big Sean, Jay Electronica, and Lupe Fiasco, this is yet another instance of Kendrick Lamar’s opponent not giving him the battle experience because, frankly, they realized didn’t even want that pressure to begin with. So now there are two lone soldiers on the front lines: the biggest rapper right now and hip-hop’s balance-achieving boogeyman. Does this apology from Cole mean that The Boy must finally comply with pressure and respond to the Compton titan on his own? While we’d bet that he will, we don’t think that we’ll be hearing a verse for a bit longer.

Why Hasn’t Drake Responded To Kendrick Lamar Yet?

First of all, Drake had already mentioned that he planned on taking a short break from music following 2023’s For All The Dogs era (might’ve been a troll). We got a 4batz feature and a removed Bfb Da Packman verse (likely so he can at least say something about Kendrick Lamar), but not much else. Drizzy just wrapped up his tour, and he might be taking his time with this beef as opposed to some of his more prompt responses in past feuds. It’s also important to note that “The Big Three” refers to the 2010s, not right now. These aren’t the high stakes they would’ve been back in 2013, and Cole didn’t really say anything disrespectful enough regarding the “trio.” He just showed he was a bit more self-aware about the situation with this apology.

As such, J. Cole doesn’t exit “The Big Three” of the 2010s automatically… at least, if he was in yours to begin with. Similarly, maybe Drake hasn’t responded yet because he doesn’t feel like he needs to. He already has a cemented spot as one of the biggest rappers period, and his die-hards are less pretentious and backpack-y than his “Big Three” counterparts, who place much more overt value on lyricism, messaging, and competition. OVO goons didn’t mind “The Story Of Adidon”; we doubt they’ll mind anything Kendrick Lamar has to say. But the Toronto superstar has a pen he punches under the weight of far too often, and when it hits, it hits. Now, this slightly unsharpened tool is the only thing that has (barring ghostwriters) to defend himself against Kendrick Lamar, as he can no longer count on Cole as a sparring partner.

What Does J. Cole’s Apology Cause?

Cole’s apology also sets a precedent for what fans don’t want, and with clamors for blood, it seems like Kendrick Lamar is getting exactly what he wanted with his “Like That” verse. But does a response from the 6ix God even matter? Absolutely. Pusha T proved he was mortal. Kendrick might prove he’s fodder. Drake has to exemplify his music and persona’s pretenses and confidently go all the way. The Take Care pioneer certainly has more experience with lyrical wars, although his overuse of subliminals and social media will not be enough anymore. Kendrick is the only rapper close to his commercial level to still retain the positively traditionalist qualities of an all-time MC. He’s undefeated because he doesn’t focus on that status: he focuses on the craft.

It’s not that risky for Mr. Morale, either: if he wins, it’ll be his final victory atop the rap mainstream’s throne as the best of our generation, and if he loses, it won’t be for lack of trying. His music is resonant and powerful enough to carry his legacy on its own with ease. Drake’s loss (or silence) could mean losing any slightest chance of being remembered as an all-timer by the classic art of rap that he reveres so much, although he would never lose the massive fanbase and commercial appeal that is built in his DNA at this point. But if he competes and wins… there would be a whole lot of shocked haters in line to apologize, and it would hopefully be something that would prove and improve his talent as an MC for years to come. Is Drake truly hip-hop? Hopefully, we’ll see.

Mick Jenkins Says He’s “Disgusted” And “Disappointed” By J. Cole’s Apology To Kendrick Lamar

Everyone has started talking about the J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar beef all over again. Two weeks ago, Kendrick Lamar threw down the gauntlet when he took shots at both Cole and Drake on the song “Like That” from the new Metro Boomin & Future album. The song immediately shot to the very top spot on the Hot 100 and just today it was announced that the song will spend a second week at the top spot. That second week comes on the back of a J. Cole response, then a response to the response that has everyone in hip-hop, including Mick Jenkins, giving their takes.

Over the weekend, J. Cole dropped his new mixtape Might Delete Later which contained the track “7 Minute Drill.” The song featured a response to Kendrick’s bars that many considered lackluster. Cole faced quite a bit of criticism from rappers and rap fans online for his weak response, so much so that he went back on his claims just a few days later. During his headlining set at his own Dreamville festival, he apologized for the diss and claimed that the album could very well live up to its name as he might take it down. That caused even more fiery debate among the rap community. See where Mick Jenkins came down on the newest developments below.

Mick Jenkins Upset That J. Cole Apologized

Many have praised J. Cole for walking back on his diss, wondering why two of the best rappers in the game right now even need to be beefing. But Mick Jenkins felt differently, saying that Cole going back on his diss was a letdown to the competitive spirit of rap. “As a. rappers rapper. As a competitor. I am surprised, I am disgusted. I am disappointed,” a tweet he made on the situation reads. It was just one in a series of posts he made about the situation explaining why he disagrees with the move of Cole going back on his new track.

What do you think of Mick Jenkins take on J. Cole apologizing to Kendrick Lamar right after releasing a response track? Do you agree that rappers should be more competitive with each other? Let us know in the comment section below.

J Cole Fans In Shambles After He Apologized To Kendrick Lamar At Dreamville Festival

Social media has been ablaze with discussion after J Cole shockingly apologized for dissing Kendrick Lamar during a pause in his headlining set at Dreamville Festival on Sunday night. During the speech, Cole admitted that his “7 Minute Drill” diss is “the lamest sh*t I ever did in my f*cking life,” and praised Lamar as one of the best rappers ever. The comments come after two days of Cole and Lamar’s fanbases feuding online.

“J Cole said he wanted all the smoke on every verse but as soon as that smoke came he tapped out,” one fan wrote afterward. “This has to be one of the most embarrassing moments in rap I’ve ever seen. It just goes to show that a lot of these rappers actually want things to stay at subliminals and empty threats because it’s convenient for them. As soon as it gets direct it’s like ‘woah woah i thought we were just acting here?’”

Other fans did come to Cole’s defense. One user wrote: “J Cole apologizing was some real friendship sh*t. I understand we want Hip Hop beef and diss tracks but let’s not act like it could get ugly behind the scenes. J Cole never been that guy looking for smoke. He’s always been the type to give ppl their flowers and spread love.” In response to that, another fan argued: “That’s fine and all but he shoulda realized that before he put the track out.”

J Cole’s Kendrick Lamar Apology: Reason & Punch From TDE React

Just a few days ago, J Cole shocked the hip-hop world by dropping off a new project called Might Delete Later. This new project just so happened to contain a diss track aimed at Kendrick Lamar, called “7 Minute Drill.” Overall, the diss track contained mixed reviews. Many felt it was weak, while others thought it was a good way of scrutinizing Kendrick’s body of work. However, Cole has undone his diss. On Sunday night at Dreamville Festival, Cole offered an apology to Kendrick. As it turns out, writing the diss track had him feeling awful.

“I’m so proud of that project except for one part,” Cole said. “There’s one part of that sh*t that makes me feel like, ‘Man, that’s the lamest sh*t I ever did in my f*cking life.’ And, I know this is not what a lot of people wanna hear. I can hear my n****s up there right now like, ‘Nah, don’t do that.’ But, I gotta keep it 100 with y’all. I damn near had a relapse.” This prompted reactions from TDE members such as Punch and Reason. As you can see, they weren’t so amused.

J Cole Elicits Strong Reactions

Punch took to Twitter where he simply wrote “lol.” Meanwhile, Reason said “idk man, i just…idk.” This is in line with how many other hip-hop fans are thinking right now. At the end of the day, Cole probably should have just stood on his diss track. Instead, we got an apology that could very well be legacy-threatening. Only time will tell how long it takes before fans forget that this ever happened.

JPEGMAFIA Offers Apology To Fans For His “Negative Energy” In 2024

JPEGMAFIA had quite a combative and hectic start to his 2024, as his unabashed rants and callouts resulted in quite the rollercoaster. Starting things off, he blasted Ye for not reaching out to work with him despite his willingness to collaborate with what Peggy views as lesser artists. While this eventually landed the Baltimore creative a couple of production credits on VULTURES 1, it also resulted in scathing shots against Freddie Gibbs, another VULTURES 1 collaborator. Their beef, plus his cosign of the Yeezy mogul despite his antisemitic and problematic behavior, got him in some heat with fans and led to many back-and-forth exchanges with them on Twitter.

However, on Thursday (April 4), JPEGMAFIA offered an apology to his fans on the social media platform for his confrontational energy in 2024 so far, promising better things to come. “I would like to apologise; for the negative energy I’ve had this year,” he expressed. “I was acting irresponsibly before, and thats not what I am about. When I get frustrated at one thing or person. Sometimes, I act out in a way that isn’t right.

JPEGMAFIA’s Apology To Fans: Read

“Even if i feel and know that i am in the right,” JPEGMAFIA went on in his series of tweets. “Im sorry for projecting that energy onto my fans that i love. I’ve refocused & i have been nonstop working on my album for you & i hope you all love it. & Even if you don’t, I’m happy knowing that my fans understand I put real work into everything. And Just to be clear, Im apologizing to my fans & absolutely no one else.” Responding to a fan asking about when his next album would come out, he had this to say: “soon very soon.”

Peggy’s Apology Continued In Tweet Series

Meanwhile, the Ghost Pop Tape multi-hyphenate might stay quiet in the lead-up to his next move, or new activity will prompt him to return to engaging with fans with relative frequency. In fact, the 34-year-old recently tweeted out some pictures with Lil Tecca, and his caption (“with the vultures”) suggests they might be on Ye and Ty Dolla $ign’s next effort. Either way, as one of the best artists working today, we’re sure that his next project will be something special in 2024. Whether or not this will include reconciliations or reconsiderations concerning Freddie Gibbs or the Chicago artist is anyone’s guess. For more news and updates on JPEGMAFIA, come back to HNHH.

Keyshia Cole’s Sisters Refuse To Accept O.T. Genasis’ Apology For Dissing Their Late Mother

During a stop on The Love Hard Tour earlier this week, O.T. Genasis took the opportunity to issue a heartfelt apology to Keyshia Cole onstage. The artists began feuding over her 2005 track “Love” back in 2019, when she admitted she didn’t appreciate him covering it without permission. At the time, he fired back with full force, going after both Cole and her mother Frankie Lons. He shared a photo of Lons’ mugshot online and alleged that he once sold her crack. In 2021, Lons died of an accidental overdose on her 61st birthday.

“I want to tell you I’m sorry,” O.T. Genasis told Cole onstage. “And when I met this woman, she is the sweetest, one of the greatest personalities, the greatest sense of humor, she’s really sent from God. She got a very, very, very good soul.”

O.T. Genasis Apologizes To Keyshia Cole

While Cole appeared to appreciate Genasis’ kind words, her sisters Elite Noel and Neffe weren’t so impressed. They quickly hopped online to make it clear that he was not forgiven until apologizing to everyone involved, including their late mother. “H** go kiss my mama grave then you can be [forgiven],” Elite Noel wrote in an Instagram Story. “This n***a tried to do my big sister neffe so bad @therealneffeteria for simply defending my mom! Sh*t so fake! H** n***a apologize to everybody p***y.” Neffe later shared Elite Noel’s post on her own story.

Keyshia Cole clarified on her own page that she stands by her sisters’ rights to their own feelings. “They’re entitled to feel that way,” she explained. “I chose differently with forgiveness… It all happened publicly so he apologized publicly.” What do you think of O.T. Genasis apologizing to Keyshia Cole onstage? What about her sisters’ reactions to the apology? Do you think he should be forgiven or not? O.T. Genasis Apologizes To Keyshia Cole On Stage Following Feud: “She’s Really Sent From God”

O.T. Genasis took the time to apologize to Keyshia Cole during the latest stop on The Love Hard Tour, following their recent feud. In doing so, he admitted he was in the wrong and described her as one of “the sweetest” and “greatest personalities.” The disagreement between the two stemmed from Genasis covering her 2005 song, “Love,” without permission.

“We was kinda going at it at one point, and listen, it was me,” Genasis began. “I just want to sit here today, I want to tell you I apologize to you…” From there, Cole joked: “I did call you a Ninja Turtle.” Genasis continued: “I want to tell you I’m sorry. And when I met this woman, she is the sweetest, one of the greatest personalities, the greatest sense of humor, she’s really sent from God. She got a very, very, very good soul.”

Elsewhere during the performance in Los Angeles, Cole announced that she’s working on a new studio album while paying tribute to her late mother, Frankie Lons. It will be her first project since her mother’s death. “I’m wanna say I appreciate you. If you ever bought an album,” she said. “Album eight right now on the way. I wanna give a shout out to my mom Frankie. If you watched the reality show, if you watched her: I just wanna say thank you. You helped change my life. Thank you.” She then broke into a performance of “I’ve Changed.”

Ray J Reacts To Princess Love & John Boyega Dating Rumors, Apologizes To Monica

It’s been an undoubtedly busy few weeks for Ray J, and it doesn’t look like the performer’s life will be getting any less hectic anytime soon. Last month, for one, it was revealed that Princess Love filed for a divorce. In a joint statement, the former couple suggested the split was a mutual but “difficult” decision. Fortunately for Princess Love, however, it doesn’t look like she’ll be single for long. Recently, she was spotted out and about with actor John Boyega, and their body language left fans speculating that they’re an item.

While one might expect Ray J to feel some type of way about Princess Love’s alleged new man, he seems to be nothing but supportive. During a recent appearance on Way Up With Angela Yee, he reacted to the dating rumors, appearing fond of his ex’s possible next partner. “Oh that’s cool. I like him,” he said. “You don’t want to be with that dude. He seems like a good dude.”

Princess Love and John Boyega’s rumored romance isn’t the only thing Ray J addressed during his appearance. He also decided to apologize to Monica for urging her to tour with Brandy, which she said she didn’t appreciate. He made it clear that he didn’t mean any harm by his tour suggestion and instead was simply trying to give them an idea.

“Monica, if I said anything wrong I apologize,” he said. “You are a great artist, you and Brandy have made history together, and all I want to do is just kind of like shake it up a little bit to get y’all to see that.” What do you think of Ray J’s response to rumors that Princess Love is dating John Boyega?
