Rihanna showed her support for Kendrick Lamar on Instagram on Sunday by liking his announcement that he’ll be headlining the Super Bowl Halftime Show. Rihanna previously served as the headliner in 2023 for Super Bowl LVII. In the announcement video, Lamar trolled his ongoing rival, Drake, by referencing his recent comments about preparing for a “Game 2.” He remarked: “You know it’s only one opportunity to win a championship — no round twos.”

The NFL is putting on the Halftime Show with the help of JAY-Z and Roc Nation. In a statement about the decision, JAY said: “Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer. The reaction to Lamar taking the headlining spot in the show hasn’t been entirely positive. Many fans have been complaining that Lil Wayne wasn’t invited, considering the game is taking place in his hometown of New Orleans. Even Master P came out on social media to suggest the league should find a way to incorporate him into the show. DJ Akademiks has also been ranting about the situation on X (formerly Twitter). In doing so, he’s accused JAY-Z of colluding to disrespect Drake and help Lamar create another event similar to The Pop Out.

Pusha T Seemingly Shades Drake With Response To Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Announcement

Pusha T showed love to Kendrick Lamar on his Instagram Story on Sunday after the NFL announced that the rapper will be performing at the Super Bowl Halftime Show. In doing so, he shared a quote from Lamar’s announcement in which he seemingly dissed Drake. “You know it’s only one opportunity to win a championship — no round twos,” Lamar said. Drake recently teased being ready for a “Game 2” on his Instagram page.

While sharing Lamar’s remark, Pusha wrote: “This is true…” with a shrugging emoji. Pusha notably feuded with Drake as well back in 2018 with the release of “The Story of Adidon.” Lamar actually referenced that feud in his diss track, “Euphoria.” He rapped: “I don’t like you poppin’ s**t at Pharrell, for him, I inherit the beef/ Yeah, f**k all that pushin’ P, let me see you push a T/ You better off spinnin’ again on him, you think about pushin’ me?/ He’s Terrence Thornton, I’m Terence Crawford, yeah, I’m whoopin’ feet.”

It’s unclear whether Lamar will bring anyone else out for his performance, although Master P recently suggested that New Orleans legend Lil Wayne should make an appearance. Following his set at The Pop Out – Ken & Friends show in Los Angeles, Lamar already performed several of his Drake diss tracks live, including “Not Like Us,” “Euphoria,” and more. He’s also rumored to be working on a new album.

Kendrick Lamar Responds To Drake In Super Bowl Announcement: “No Round 2s”

For the umpteenth time in 2024, Kendrick Lamar has stopped the hip-hop world in its tracks. He just announced on Sunday (September 8) that he will be the headlining act at the Super Bowl LIX halftime show in New Orleans on February 9, 2025. In his announcement video, K.Dot even made a cheeky and downright dismissive reference to his victory in the Drake battle that raged on just a few months ago. “You know it’s only one opportunity to win a championship. No round two’s,” he says at one point in the video linked in the post below. This, of course, electrified a lot of fans, whether they are Kendrick fans or not.

Furthermore, this “Round 2” reference is about Drake’s recent IG burner post about “winning Game 2,” which many took as a direct reference to the Kendrick Lamar battle. We don’t know what he actually meant by this, though, as a “Game 2” can mean many different things. Does the 6ix God actually plan on lyrically battling the Compton rapper again or is this more of a symbolic flex about career longevity and commercial success? After all, anyone who truly thought that the OVO mogul’s career would be over after this beef is delusional.

With all this feud discourse in mind, you can already imagine the kind of criticisms and praises that Kendrick Lamar and Drake fans are throwing out in reaction to this. When one fan gets excited about Kendrick stomping on Drizzy for the millionth time, another fan thinks that “Not Like Us” is Mr. Syrup Sandwiches’ only big hit. Nevertheless, this adds to some other teases about the former TDE lyricist’s next moves, including a possible future collab with Playboi Carti. Don’t get your hopes up, though: that’s still purely speculative as of writing this article.

Meanwhile, we can’t wait to see what Kendrick Lamar brings to the Super Bowl halftime show next year, especially as this suggests that he might drop something to pair with it. But that wasn’t the case for Rihanna, so let’s not get our hopes up. In any case, this should definitely mitigate some of the lost momentum that some people attributed to his tardiness. Whether or not any of this actually relates back to the Drake battle remains a mystery, as this announcement suggests that The Boy will be yapping to a brick wall if he tries to re-engage.

“Super Bowl LIX. New Orleans,” he wrote simply alongside a YouTube link. The video shows Kendrick positioned in front of a huge American flag, announcing that he’ll be headlining the upcoming Super Bowl Halftime Show, which is scheduled for February 9, 2025. “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date,” he explained. “And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one.”

Kendrick Lamar Delivers Exciting News

This won’t be Kendrick’s first Halftime Show, however, as he was a special guest during Dr. Dre’s showcase back in 2022. Either way, fans can’t wait and are sounding off about the exciting news online. The announcement arrives amid the tremendous success of the Compton-born performer’s track, “Not Like Us.” The song has sold over 5 million units in the United States alone, an impressive milestone for being just four months old. It was the second track to do so this year, per Chart Data.

The announcement also comes just as Drake has been teasing the idea of a second round of their viral rap beef. Late last month, the Toronto artist shared a clip of Rasheed Wallace saying “We will win Game 2” on his burner Instagram account, which many took as a hint at what’s to come. As such, it might surprise you to hear that La Flame is apparently already working on his next full-length effort. He revealed this during a new Cultured magazine interview with legendary visual artist George Condo.

“I’m gonna be back in New York,” Travis Scott remarked. “I’m back in album mode. I’ve been working on music and s**t every day on tour. When I’m doing the stadiums, because they’re sold out, I can see the music for what it is. I’m f***ing amped.” “We’ve always approached everything from scratch, not doing loops,” he said of his overall creative process when it comes to making music. “Taking music back to the real raw art. Cooking things instead of having them passed down.”

Of course, this isn’t really something new for Travis Scott in concept. He followed up ASTROWORLD with the JACKBOYS EP the next year, plus a slew of singles up until UTOPIA dropped. Also, let’s not forget the massive hype that formed around ASTROWORLD before Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight had even dropped back in 2016. But considering the precedent that the Houston rapper’s five-year wait created, this should be a very exciting preview for fans. Let’s just hope it’s legit. After all, we’ve already had some canceled sneaker color-ways this year…

Jokes aside, we’ll see in due time what Travis Scott’s next full-length looks like. Whether it comes around quickly in 2025 or it’s the start of a years-long process, we’re sure that the results will impress, inspire, and engage. Meanwhile, fans are still salty about the sales battle between Sabrina Carpenter’s Short N’ Sweet and DAYS BEFORE RODEO. But selling over 360K copies of a ten-year-old mixtape is a larger flex than most No. 1 chart debuts.

The Weeknd has confirmed that his sixth studio album and the final in his ongoing trilogy will be titled, Hurry Up Tomorrow. It follows 2020’s After Hours and 2022’s Dawn FM. The Weeknd made the announcement on his Instagram page on Wednesday while sharing more details about the highly-anticipated project.

“Yesterday was fourteen years ago… We held our breath, falling into a shimmering sea in the after hours of the night. Attempted to cleanse the wounds with melodies and lights, a bulletproof bandage to shield what lies beneath…,” he wrote in a video showing red text scrolling up the screen. “In a place where the seasons never changed, where time ceased to exist. For now, it remains unclear exactly when the child was born, though Hailey told W magazine that she was already six months along when she finally announced the pregnancy. According to her, the bump didn’t become obvious until her second trimester, making it fairly easy to hide. “I didn’t have a belly, really, until I was six months pregnant, which was when I announced it. I was able to wear big jackets and stuff,” she explained. When she finally revealed the exciting news, she told the outlet she was relieved. “I didn’t enjoy the stress of not being able to enjoy my pregnancy outwardly,” she described, “I felt like I was hiding this big secret, and it didn’t feel good. I wanted the freedom to go out and live my life.”

He revealed that his fan-favorite mixtape Days Before Rodeo will hit streaming services soon. This is particularly exciting because the project’s ten-year anniversary is this Sunday (August 18), so it would line up perfectly. It also adds to all the exciting fun that La Flame has had over the past few days, including a foot race with IShowSpeed.

Furthermore, this re-release would surely put a lot of newer Travis Scott fans onto his old material… That is, if they weren’t bumping “Drugs You Should Try It” and “Skyfall” already. A lot of these newer fans probably saw him join Future and Metro Boomin for a surprise performance during the duo’s Brooklyn tour stop. It seems like the “Cinderella” collaborators had a blast onstage, and the fans in attendance certainly reciprocated that energy in the pit and in the stands. If Days Before Rodeo does come out on streaming services, it would be great to see if more cuts from it make his setlists.

It’s a tiresome convo, but we can all agree that both MCs deserve this love and much more.

Meanwhile, Travis Scott probably feels quite grateful and lucky these days, especially after recent concerning events. Following his Paris arrest, authorities released him and didn’t charge him with anything, which was likely a relief for him and for fans. With Days Before Rodeo seemingly on the horizon and South American tour dates coming up, there will be a lot more to enjoy from the Houston creative in 2024. Yesterday, 50 Cent took to Instagram to announce the death of his grandfather, Curtis Jackson Sr. While the loss is surely a difficult one to face, it looks like the performer is approaching it with a positive mindset. Curtis Jackson Sr. was 91 years old at the time of his passing, and his cause of death has not yet been revealed.

“You do know none of this sh*t really matters, [winking emoji] we can’t take it with us. I lost my Grandfather last night, now he can go everywhere with me,” Fif wrote. In a subsequent post, he shared a series of photos of his late family member, penning a heartfelt message about his grandfather and his sense of humor.
