Ciara Was Blown Away To Find Out She’s Related To A New York Yankees Icon On ‘Finding Your Roots’

Ciara is of course married to football star Russell Wilson, but it turns out that’s actually not her only familial connection to the sports world: In a new clip from the PBS series Finding Your Roots, Ciara finds out that she is related to a former New York Yankees all-time great.

In the clip shared by Ciara on social media, Ciara turns a page of a book being presented to her, and when she sees what’s on it, she immediately looks up and exclaims, “What the world?!” The photo was of Derek Jeter, and host Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. explained, “That is your DNA cousin.” Ciara replied, “You are kidding me. Derek Jeter,” adding, “That’s crazy.”

In a voiceover, Gates explained share a “long, identical stretch of DNA on their 14th chromosome, DNA which we know Derek inherited from his mother.”

Ciara wrote while sharing the clip, “The moment I learned @DerekJeter was my cousin! Crazy! Thank you @drhenrylouisgates for such an incredible experience! This was a dream come true to learn about my family genealogy!”

The episode aired last night (January 2), and in the same one, Alanis Morissette made a surprising discovery of her own, learning that she’s a distant cousin of actress Claire Danes (as Entertainment Weekly notes). She said, “I’ve worked with her before, I heart her so much. Now I’m about to explode into confetti!”

Here Are The Format Festival Set Times For 2023

This weekend, Format Festival 2023 is preparing to plant its roots in Bentonville, Arkansas’ Ozark Mountains. Beginning Friday, September 22, through Sunday, September 24, three major recording artists are slated to headline, namely Leon Bridges (9/24), Alanis Morissette (9/23), and LCD Soundsystem (9/22).

Over the three days, dozens of entertainers will perform across the five performance spaces (North Of OZ, South Of Oz, Drag Me To The Disco, Next Door, and Rode House). Below, you will find the set times, which were announced by the organizer. Notable acts listed across the lineup include Modest Mouse, Poolside, Tash Sultana, Little Simz, Channel Tres, Kari Faux, Madeline Edwards, Serpentwithfeet, and Sudan Archives.

Similar to last year, in addition to the primary and secondary stages, there are also unconventional spaces on the grounds, such as forest enclaves, pavilions, barns, and speakeasies for more intimate performances. Outside of the musical performances inside the Fermentation Hall, geared toward video art programming. Featured visual artists include Jeremy Deller, Jon Rafman, and Ragnar Kjartansson x The National.

Billie Eilish, Lizzo, Ed Sheeran, And Joe Biden Will Appear On Upcoming ‘Corden’ Episodes From London

With James Corden announcing in April that he will be leaving The Late Late Show in 2023, the talk show host is pulling out all the stops in his final season. For a slate of episodes filmed in the UK that will air next week, guests on the show include Billie Eilish, Lizzo, Ed Sheeran, and President Joe Biden (as Variety notes). The shows will be broadcast from London’s Freemason’s Hall and these aren’t just your typical “sit down and chat” type of appearances for the illustrious guests.

For his “Take A Break” segment, Corden is going to fill in as an assistant of sorts to Biden, Lizzo is set to do a new “Carpool Karaoke” segment, and hilarity will surely ensue. Other guests on the upcoming slate of episodes include Star Wars actor John Boyega, singers Sam Smith and Alanis Morissette, Thor’s Tessa Thompson, David Harbour from Stranger Things, and Vin freakin’ Diesel.

It’s all set to air from Tuesday, June 28th to Friday, July 1st in its normal 12:37 a.m. timeslot on CBS (or on the Sky Comedy channel if you find yourself in the UK).
