Hip-Hop Albums That Grew On Us The Most In 2024

Between the biggest battle of the last 20 years, YSL’s stint in the longest criminal trial in Georgia history, and the downfall of a previously unstoppable executive, hip-hop had a pretty massive 2024. Sadly, these stories and many others garnered a lot of headlines and pushed the culture’s proliferation far outside of its musical boundaries. Many folks re-listening to “Family Matters” and “6:16 in LA” did so to catch the gaps in evidence and strategy, not to reflect on their melodic or lyrical prowesses. So it goes without saying that many of the art form’s most compelling and impressive offerings over the past 12 months or so flew completely under the radar… Even our own, for a time. But we’re very happy to admit that we slept on some gems and rounded up five of the most underrated rap albums of this year that grew on us the most.

These hip-hop projects took some time to settle in for many different reasons. They all came out pretty early in the year, back when we still had larger releases on our horizon or found ourselves completely overwhelmed by surprise diss tracks. We’ve already sung some of their praises before and want to double down on them, whereas other picks never got their proper shine. However, no matter why we initially brushed these records off, their merits in performance, production, thematic depth, catchiness, or idiosyncrasy eventually eroded any skepticism. Obviously, we missed out on a lot of hidden treasures in 2024, and looking back on everyone’s sleeper picks will be one of the year’s very last treats for the rap community. Before we head into the next quarter of the century, don’t skip out on these outstanding works.

Bruiser Wolf – My Story Got Stories

My Story Got Stories easily ranks among 2024’s funniest hip-hop albums for the enthralling and unmistakable delivery of Bruiser Wolf, one of Danny Brown’s Bruiser Brigade colleagues from Detroit. But many fans heard his storybook tone and kept their praise to only that. Despite the acquired taste that this project’s main artist and production pallet employ, don’t miss out on some of the sharpest, most clever, and most hilarious punchlines of the year. “Everything I do is monumental / It’s a cycle, period, menstrual” had us laughing all throughout 2024, and there’s plenty of heartfelt sadness and melancholy to balance out that sense of humor. Dusty samples, languid boom-bap beats, vivid street life descriptions, and quick-hitting song structures make for a whole slew of stories that walk the line between harrowing and hilarious. Also, the focus on accountability and loyalty informs the bravado with a lot of conviction.

All that said, don’t think that Bruiser Wolf’s My Story Got Stories is just a collection of old-timey, quirky, comical asides. “2 Bad” with Danny Brown and Zelooperz is one of the most ridiculously animated bangers of the year, and “I Was Taught To” with Trinidad James is a trill and low-riding cruise. Some of the stark and skipping sample flips, such as the atmospherically stretched-out vocals of “Holla At Ya Mans” and the static-laden soul on “Dope Ain’t Good” with Stretch Money, can bleed into each other on occasion. Fortunately, once you really focus on the instrumentals and verses, it all comes together as a psychedelic, rugged, and somehow unsettling album experience. It just goes to show that a whimsical perspective can bring the light out of the darkest street corners, which was an unparalleled process to undergo in 2024.

TiaCorine – Almost There

When thinking about the best rap albums of any given year, you might initially call attention to what feels deep, meaningful, or thematically significant. But then you’d have to balance that out with some of the most fun and vibrant music of that same period, and we can’t let 2024 go by without putting TiaCorine’s Almost There EP into that conversation. It’s eight tracks of no-frills plugg and rage-inspired material with some truly catchy melodies and moments, such as the phased-out and swirling buzzes on “Blick” with Key Glock and the choppy triplet embellishments on “Burnt.” What really creeps under your skin and leaps out without warning, though, is the North Carolina spitter’s vocal dynamism and flow control on here. It’s a big part of what makes these beats come alive, even as they might not hit your ears as particularly unique instrumentals.

For every deep-toned and menacing trap banger like “Give No F**k,” there’s a bubbly and sweet wave to ride on cuts like “Shamone.” Production-wise, there’s a lot here to create a solid resting place for TiaCorine’s displays: acidic synths, dense bass, sharp trap percussion, dreamy pads, and airy tones. She handles it all with a lot of charisma and surprising versatility, as her raspy growls on the Luh Tyler-assisted “Yung Joc” match the bass while her malleable flow delivery compliments the crystalline keys. All in all, Almost There occupies multiple hip-hop moods and appeals at the same time. “Olive” with Zelooperz is still one of our favorite ragers of the year, whereas “Bonnet” and “Nah He Tweakin” round the EP out with more relaxed and ethereal melodic dominance. Despite its short length and simple nature, this is one of rap’s most satisfying batches of ear candy in 2024.

Quadeca – SCRAPYARD

By the time our mid-year list rolled around, Quadeca’s new mixtape SCRAPYARD was already burrowing itself into our brains. Still, a lot of that appeal came down to the enduring catchiness and emotional resonance of the Los Angeles native’s 2023 EPs leading up to the full album. The tender bossa nova and alt-tinged hyperpop fusions of “A LA CARTE” featuring brakence, the brief yet minimally glitched-out confidence of “I MAKE IT LOOK EFFORTLESS,” and the jittery distortion on “GUESS WHO?” were leftovers from last year that, when we initially listened to SCRAPYARD, ranked head and shoulders above its newer offerings. Eventually, the controlled chaos of genre mixes, mood swings, and production techniques of the whole package really settled in as an expressive, cathartic, and engrossing full-length.

Harcore Quadeca fans finally got “BEING YOURSELF” on an official release, introducing its cavernous bass and fluttering flows to a whole new base. “PRETTY PRIVILEGE” draws from – and evolves – the emo-trap tradition with rich hand percussion and intoxicating electric guitar tones. Perhaps the biggest grower is “U TRIED THAT THING WHERE UR HUMAN,” whose initially off-putting whispers perfectly prelude an ambient, folky, lo-fi beat that gives more singer-songwriter than seasoned MC. Add a soulful boom-bap cut in “WAY TOO MANY FRIENDS” and you’ve got one of the most creative, undefinable, and colorful albums of 2024 in any genre. Maybe that’s why the 24-year-old’s latest LP took some time to grow. It’s not solely hip-hop – or any genre, for that matter. Yet its assembly of disparate scraps to craft an earthy sound not only creates amazing rap music as a result, but also excellently embodies the art form’s ethos.

Tierra Whack – WORLD WIDE WHACK

A week after Tierra Whack dropped her long-awaited debut full-length album WORLD WIDE WHACK, Kendrick Lamar lit the rap game on fire and reset the year for our minds. It was honestly a huge disservice and misstep on our part, as the Philly native came through with the vibrance and wonder that she’s known for while adding some new flourishes to her arsenal. For example, “MS BEHAVE” is one of her most brash and bass-heavy songs yet, and “X” continues this dark and primal percussive journey. Longtime fans still got some of the low-key, crisp, and perky jams they love such as “DIFFICULT” and “INVITATION,” in addition to Tierra’s most diverse and organically fused sonic pallet yet. The project travels from triumphant and egocentric excess to down-trodden and despondent tribulations, although it never loses its personal and intimate charm. In other words, it fittingly and progressively expands Whack World.

Nevertheless, Tierra Whack’s experimentation and songwriting focus on WORLD WIDE WHACK doesn’t automatically jump out at you. Somber interludes like “NUMB” and “BURNING BRAINS” are pretty unassuming at first, and only reveal their powers once the stickiness of other tracks wears off on you. Maybe you can attribute this to the thin trap drums on a lot of beats here, or to the washed-out aesthetics that cloak much of each song’s atmosphere. But you eventually realize what’s taking all that extra space up, and it’s the 29-year-old’s captivating personality and presence. It’s sometimes understated, but those partially obscured moments always pair up with relatable lyricism and grounded themes of identity, contradiction, and emotional volatility. It might not be the most bombastic or instantly gratifying LP of 2024, but it certainly stands among its most vulnerable and varied.

Cavalier – Different Type Time

Finally, we wanted to shout out Backwoodz Studioz for backing one of the best lyrical displays of 2024. Cavalier’s Different Type Time reflects the passions of a rapper unsatisfied with the perfectionist rat race of the music industry, and these 21 tracks reflect that level of frustrated inspiration with grace. Boom-bap permeates throughout calm and collected instrumental clouds on cuts such as “Can’t Leave It Alone” with Eric Jaye, and the project overall feels like a particularly healing piece of underground hip-hop. Of course, jazzy passages and reflective ambiance define much of this LP as well. It makes more fiery fare like “Doodoo Damien” hit that much harder, especially when the Brooklyn-born and New Orleans-based lyricist weaves intricate rhyme schemes together with raw perception wise beyond his years. Since it’s such a familiar sound, it’s up to the listener to dig through the diamonds in these verses.

As much as the pen dominates Different Type Time, Cavalier also crafted some of the most gorgeous soulful fusions of hip-hop this year, such as “Think About It” with Billzegypt. There’s such an immediate and in-your-face approach to a lot of the mixing behind the instrumentation and percussion here, adding this live feel to narratives of struggle that turns them into consistently evocative songs. Even though 2024 had more daring or widespread challenges to rap’s status quo, this album shows off the power of tradition, homage, and fundamental ingenuity with no need for invasive bells and whistles. It’s a very blunt record in that sense, even if the bars here will always warrant a rewind. For those listeners looking for the furtherance of the culture’s linguistic excellence, storytelling prowess, and foundational elements, this offers even more.

Fat Joe Declares 2024 “The Worst Year In Hip Hop History”

Fat Joe has been extremely active in 2024. The Terror Squad founder has been on countless podcasts and hosted the BET Awards. He met with Vice President Kamala Harris, and performed during the World Series. He also dropped a new album, The World Changed on Me. The title of the album is an excellent indicator of the way Fat Joe feels about the current rap landscape. He may still be relevant, but he feels that the genre has never been worse in terms of cultural impact.

Fat Joe delivered this hot take during a recent appearance on Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion podcast. He reflected on the year in hip hop, and felt that the musical output was not up to snuff. “I woke up 2024 feeling like [God dammit!] It’s been a horrible year,” the “Lean Back” rapper asserted. “I was just having a heated discussion with my people [about this].” Fat Joe wasn’t simply let down by the music, though. He also felt that the scrutiny that hip hop legends like Diddy and Jay-Z have come under has also damaged the genre’s reputation.

Fat Joe Claims Rappers Are More “Scrutinized”

“All our legends. All our mentors getting scrutinized,” Fat Joe asserted. “This is the worst time to be a celebrity in history. I’m not sure you guys wanna be celebrities.” Joe came up at the very same time as Diddy and Jay-Z. He even had a multi-year feud with Jay and Roc-A-Fella Records in the late 90s and early 2000s. He’s unhappy with the way their personal lives have impacted the culture, however. It’s the combination of music and scandal that led to Joey Crack’s massive declaration. “This might be the worst year ever in hip hop history type sh*t,” he stated. “This sh*t bad.”

Fat Joe admitted that he’s been forced to acclimate to the current rap landscape during a Breakfast Club interview. He told the hosts that he’s changed. “My circle gets smaller and smaller and smaller,” Fat Joe explained. “You know, unfortunately, sometimes people we love, we catch them doing things they ain’t supposed to do. So we got to get them up out the way. And that’s hard.” Hopefully Fat Joe can be part of the change he wants to see happen.

Hip-Hop’s Biggest Breakout Stars Of 2024

It’s been a lush 2024 for hip-hop thanks to a plethora of storylines. Rap beefs mostly consumed them, as well as one particular mogul’s drastic downfall. But the emergence of dozens upon dozens of artists has been a welcome distraction from all of the drama and animosity. Don’t get us wrong, though. Being in the thick of all of the noise is always exciting. But more than that, being able to put the spotlight on great music and acts that deserve to be heard is what we strive to bring you all.

The mainstream had a great return to form, with Kendrick Lamar, Future, Metro Boomin, and Tyler, The Creator among just a few of them making the most indelible marks. But as we mentioned earlier, the breakout stars were plentiful, and of course, a major key to the genre’s success this year. Around this time in 2023, we highlighted five names who we felt everyone should be watching out for coming into 2024. We targeted ones we felt were slept on and had quietly strong runs. This time though, we are changing things up a bit. Instead, our staff decided that there were five rappers who blew people’s expectations out of the water. So much so, that they are pretty much stars already and are on the cusp of reaching that next level. With that said, here are the five talents that we expect to take that superstar leap next year or sometime soon.

BigXthaPlug

Song: “Change Me”

Texas’ hip-hop scene could have a new face in the near future, and his name is BigXthaPlug. The 26-year-old from Dallas really began to grab everyone’s attention in 2023, including XXL, who promptly granted him a spot in this year’s Freshman Class. He was able to build some buzz off of tracks like “Mmhmm,” “Back On My BS,” and “Levels”. His instantly recognizable voice, which sounds like it has its own surround sound already built in, makes him a commanding presence on the mic. He couples that with his straightforward writing and personal storytelling. His sophomore record, Take Care, quickly gained steady interest from fans and critics thanks to the thematic switch-up. Instead of street bangers, it’s all about bettering yourself, taking care of your loved ones, adjusting to success, and weeding out the negativity. It’s also shown he’s got a great ear for soulful and hard-hitting beats, as he’s been developing some chemistry with Tennessee producer, BandPlay. If he can continue to show that artistic growth from his 2023 tapes to Take Care, then BigXthaPlug is going to be around for a while.

BossMan Dlow

Song: “Mr Pot Scraper”

Meet one of hip-hop’s newest hitmakers, BossMan Dlow. His most recent tape, Mr Beat The Road, is chockful of them. “Come Here,” “Get In With Me,” “Mr Pot Scraper,” “Lil Bastard,” and “Talk My S***,” is just the start. He’s made a name for himself for some hilarious punch lines, braggy lyrics, and big ego. His willingness to deviate from his norms is his biggest drawback right now. He sounds great over the skittering Florida hip-hop beats thanks to his unique flow. But BossMan can only keep repeating that formula so many times before it grows old. However, he’s been showing some growth in both of those departments. His most recent single, “The Biggest Pt. 2,” showcases that. He’s got the ability to write catchy trap party tracks, but the variation in their packaging will be what either holds him back or propels him forward.

Doechii

Song: “NISSAN ALTIMA”

Doechii completely floored us in August with the release of her third project and mixtape, Alligator Bites Never Heal. We did see signs of potential greatness with her house-inspired loosie “Alter Ego” featuring JT. Moreover, we knew she could write some radio-friendly tunes with “What It Is (Block Boy)” ft. Kodak Black back in 2023. But her “Swamp Sessions” on YouTube are what gained the most traction with us. Sure, they were short, with some barely cracking a minute. But the proficiency, charisma, and energy in which she rapped with over some nasty and creative boom bap instrumentals confirmed she was the real deal. From super blunt to serious, to melodic and goofy, she really excels in any tonal setting. She’s quickly turned herself into TDE’s next face of the label and with her recently confirming her debut album for next year, the limitations are pretty much non-existent at this point.

Skilla Baby

Song: “Plate”

No matter how popular, you may have seen Skilla Baby pop up on your favorite MC’s project or single. The Detroit, Michigan native has seemingly been everywhere imaginable in 2024. Maxo Kream, G Herbo, DaBaby, Coi Leray, Doe Boy, and Yung Miami’s newest material includes him in some capacity. However, this high number of collaborations doesn’t stop outside of his feature catalog. His 2024 project, The Coldest, as well as its subsequent deluxe, were packed to the brim with big guests. BossMan Dlow, Rob49, Moneybagg Yo, Flo Milli, and Jeremih, just scratch the surface. Despite his rough and street mentality, he’s shown to tone things down on songs like “Bae,” for example. He’s probably got the most work to do on this list, but the industry clearly sees something in Skilla Baby already.

That Mexican OT

Song: “02.02.99”

Last, but certainly not least, is the second Texan in this grouping, That Mexican OT. You may have heard his song “Johnny Dang” with one of Southern hip-hop’s pioneers, Paul Wall. It was the blip on everyone’s radar that he needed to capitalize on, and he did just that at the top of 2024. “02.02.99,” opened up his run on a very strong note, and it showed that his hitmaking ability was no fluke. Outside of Doechii, he may be the most expressive rapper here. His comedic one liners like, “I ain’t f***ed your sister, b****, I’m just a motherf***er,” and the way he’s able to roll any letter in the alphabet are some of his most endearing qualities. But like BigXthaPlug, he’s also showing high respect to the South and Texas by working with and learning from the legends (Z-Ro, Propain, Slim Thug). That support system is going to go a long way and will help completely shed any sort of doubts left.

The Alchemist Makes Fans Drop To Their Knees After Teasing Even More Music In 2024

The Alchemist already dropped three new albums, he produced for some of the best rappers in the game, and his instrumental landed on the scariest diss track of all time in 2024. What else can he do this year? Well, what Uncle Al knows best: Keeping his foot on the gas. Moreover, fans are incredibly excited for the possibility of something more from the legendary producer this year after his recent tweet on Thursday (November 28). “The year isn’t over,” he tweeted quite ominously and promisingly, even though we and other fans might be delusional in thinking that he’s talking about more new music.

Still, The Alchemist is incredibly prolific, so we wouldn’t be surprised if he has more music to drop this year, another music video, some merch rollout, or another big endeavor that he’s excited to announce. After all, he dropped Black & Whites with Hit-Boy and Big Hit, Heads I Win, Tails You Lose with Oh No as Gangrene, and The Genuine Articulate. Plus, the California native’s eerie piano beat on Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss track “meet the grahams” was hip-hop fans’ most played song this year… if Spotify Wrapped did a “Songs That Showed Up In Your Nightmares” edition, that is. Or “Wildest Dreams” if you’re an OVO hater, I guess.

The Alchemist Says “The Year Isn’t Over”

Jokes aside, we have no idea what The Alchemist meant with this new tweet, and we all know that he’s not exactly the most serious person on his Twitter page. Nevertheless, we do know that he apparently has a collab album on the way with Big Sean, so there is definitely something coming eventually. If this is all wishful thinking, though, it would be ridiculous for us to complain when we already got so much quality.

However, it turns out that maybe we should absolutely take The Alchemist’s word here, since he proved that he’s a bit of a prophet. He guessed earlier this year that Kendrick Lamar would drop an album in 2024, and we were all surprised by GNX‘s release. Sure, there’s a whole lot of people that guessed this too, but we’d never say no to new Al, so we’re just trying to manifest without rushing greatness.

Drake Nabs Eight BBMA Nominations Despite His Difficult Year

We would be beating a dead horse if we continued to talk about how much of a struggle it’s been for Drake in 2024. It’s hard to ignore, especially how much coverage the rap beef between him and Kendrick Lamar got. But we won’t even bother touching on it anymore. Today is a big day for the 6ix God because the nominees for every category at this year’s BBMAs have been announced. Drake has been incredibly dominant at these shows, as he is tied with Taylor Swift for the most wins ever at 39. They are even lockstep when it comes to the Top Artist category, which they have won three times, respectively.

It’s different year and same result in 2024, as they are both up for it again. But this is just one award that Drake can potentially win. In fact, according to Billboard, there are another seven trophies he can hoist on December 12. The others include Top Male Artist, Top Rap Artist, Male Rap Artist, and Billboard 200 Artist. Then, there’s also Top Billboard 200 Album (For All The Dogs), Top Rap Album, and finally Top R&B Song with his feature on 4batz’s “act ii: date @ 8.”

Drake Can Add Quite A Bit Of Hardware To His Trophy Stash

Of course, though, the biggest awards that will be discussed following the broadcast will be Top Rap Artist and Top Male Rap Artist. Drake and Kendrick Lamar are competing once again, albeit in more restrained fashion. But nonetheless, it will certainly be a day of each fanbase teasing and trolling whoever the loser is. It will also be an interesting day after though, especially because of the potential social media posts/speeches that either artist could make.

Like we said, it will be a little while before that happens. The BBMAs will kick off on December 12 at 8 p.m. local time. Coverage will be available on FOX, Fire TV channels, in addition to Paramount+. This is the first time it will be on national television (FOX) since 2006. So circle the date, it’s going to be a wild night.

Ice Spice Makes The Strip Club Come Alive In New “Popa” Music Video: Watch

Ice Spice is still rolling out her new album Y2K!, and wants to show that it can still electrify a party. Moreover, the music video for “Popa” just released, and given its multiple visuals involving a strip club and a whole lot of shaking rumps, it’s pretty NSFW. Elsewhere, she also flaunts her private jet, vibes out on top of a luxury car, and parties all around. While not everyone in the world was a fan of the Bronx femcee’s latest output, she certainly hasn’t lost any motivation to keep her foot on the gas. It seems like she’s already working on her next step, which is exactly how you should handle criticism no matter whether or not it’s valid.

Elsewhere, Ice Spice is just enjoying the fruits of her fame, spreading her image and artistry around to every corner she can find that will take her. For example, she recently linked up with Madonna at a Luar New York Fashion Week show, one of many huge celebrity crossovers that she’s enjoyed over the years. We don’t know much about next moves, though, especially considering how frantic and busy of a year 2024 was for the hitmaker. But we know she has plenty of extracurricular avenues to develop, and plenty of time right now to think it over.

Ice Spice’s “Popa” Music Video: Watch

However, Ice Spice also has to contend with a lot of naysayers, even within the rap game. During a recent talent scout session with Funny Marco, Latto seemed to shade her by comparing her to a female rapper who tried out and, in the Atlanta femcee’s view, underwhelmed. “It gives me like… Ice Spice, probably,” she remarked. “It was like, ‘I’m so cute, grah.’”

But a lot of folks out there also know that the hate for Ice Spice (disregarding controversial allegations around her behavior) could come from pretty biased and misguided places. “B***hes hate Spice cuz n***as love spice,” Fivio Foreign recently tweeted, speculating as to why she gets so much negative attention. If the music just isn’t your thing, then we can’t pretend like this new “Popa” music video will convince you. Yet sadly, a lot of critics seem to forget that they can hold that simple opinion instead of turning it into vitriol.

Queen Naija Laments How “Good Girls Finish Last” On New Single: Stream

Even Big Meech is a big fan of Queen Naija’s music, and her R&B sensibilities should make that come as no surprise. Moreover, she just released another helping of that with the tender “Good Girls Finish Last” single, a guitar-led ballad about finally realizing that you need to get out of a relationship where your love isn’t being validated. Thanks to some heavenly backing harmonies and a simple but crisp percussion pattern, this is one of those last rays of summer sun before autumn fully sets in.

It’s actually been some time since we’ve heard from Queen Naija in a more lengthy fashion, whether in a collaborative or solo sense. Her last non-song release on her own was the November EP After The Butterflies, which had some standout cuts like “No Fake Love” with NBA YoungBoy. Maybe the near future will hold another album or shorter project that this and other possible singles could lead up to. But at the end of the day, we won’t know until it happens.

With that in mind, we look forward to hearing more gentle and captivating material from the “Let’s Talk About It” singer. If you haven’t heard Queen Naija’s “Good Girls Finish Last” yet, find it on your preferred streaming service or check it out on YouTube below. Down there, you can also find some notable lines and the comments section for you to leave your thoughts on the record. As always, come back to HNHH for more great music releases around the clock.

Where Has Drake Been Since “The Heart Part 6”?

I don’t want to diss you anymore,” Drake decried as his white-flag-waving moment on his final Kendrick Lamar diss, “The Heart Part 6.” Their battle was an intense and overwhelming one that fans haven’t even slightly stopped debating over. Ever since that song signaled the end of the back-and-forth, though, hip-hop culture has spent countless hours theorizing about what the Toronto superstar will do next. Thanks to some recent new activity and a potential second chapter to this saga on the way, we wanted to look back at how we got here.

Furthermore, here’s every important update you need to know about what Drake did, experienced, expressed, and allegedly took action about following the end of the Kendrick Lamar battle. Whether it’s new musical material, shady messages, unfortunate developments, rumored decisions, or accusations regarding his questionable movement, there’s a lot to get into. It seems like the 6ix God is building up towards something big in this aftermath. So let’s see if this history can help us guess as to what will come next.

The Embassy Shooting & Trespassers (May 7-9, 2024)

The Kendrick Lamar battle’s epilogue started on its worst foot to date. Unidentified suspects shot at Drake’s mansion, also known as The Embassy, in the wee hours of May 7, just two days after “The Heart Part 6” released. One of his security guards was struck in the attack and recovered in the hospital, and we never got confirmation that he was in his home when it happened. Over the next two days, authorities also apprehended two trespassers on the property in separate incidents. Despite speculation, authorities have not found any evidence that this connects to the Kendrick Lamar battle in any way at press time.

Drake Re-Lists Beverly Hills Mansion (Sometime In May 2024, Hit News Cycle On May 10)

During the aforementioned security breaches at The Embassy, news broke that Drake re-listed his Beverly Hills mansion for $88 million. News reports on this matter suggest that this occurred the week before May 10. As you’ll see below, this was not the only significant property update concerning Drizzy during this beef’s aftermath.

The Embassy’s Third Trespasser (May 11, 2024)

The Embassy faced a third trespasser on its property in almost as many days. Guards tackled a man who reportedly didn’t cause too much trouble, and at press time, the specific details around this unprompted visit remain unknown. For that matter, the same goes for the other trespassing incidents that Drake suffered.

Drake Officially Exits The Battle (May 12, 2024)

Via his Instagram Story, Drake let his fans know that he was officially done with his feud with Kendrick Lamar and company. “Good times. Summer vibes up next,” he captioned a picture of a lone samurai facing a massive army. Let’s see what else these summer vibes consisted of for Aubrey Graham in the months that followed.

Drake’s First Post-Beef Public Appearance With Toronto’s New WNBA Team (May 23, 2024)

For the first time since the battle ended, Drake popped out in public to celebrate his home city of Toronto finally getting a WNBA team. He attended a press conference at a downtown hotel in the 6ix, which also hosted Scottie Barnes of the Toronto Raptors and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The team will reportedly begin to play in the league in 2026.

“U My Everything” With Sexyy Red (May 24, 2024)

Drake’s first post-beef musical release was on Sexyy Red’s “U My Everything” from her In Sexyy We Trust project. Most notably, it featured him rapping over the “BBL Drizzy” diss beat Metro Boomin produced to spite him. This was the first of at least a couple of instances of a narrative spin dividing fans, disagreeing over whether or not this was a compelling and flex-worthy move or a corny attempt at an Eminem 8 Mile moment, instead.

Confirmation Of $15 Million Texas Move-In (May 24, 2024)

Drake had previously announced that he finally found a house in one of his second homes in the United States: Texas. In May, we officially got confirmation that he purchased a $15 million ranch in the state. The 37-year-old even seemed to film a music video there, which may have ended up becoming the footage for his Latto collab that landed later in the summer.

Drake Pops Out At 21 Savage’s Toronto Show (May 27, 2024)

Drake’s first concert appearance after the Kendrick Lamar battle was at 21 Savage’s Toronto tour stop for his American Dream trek. There, he proclaimed that his Her Loss partner owns the 6ix, welcoming him as one of their own. Throughout this post-beef tale, 21 is definitely one of The Boy’s most firm supporters in the rap game.

“Wah Gwan Delilah” With Snowd4y (June 3)

One of Drake’s most divisive and clowned-upon musical releases this summer was this cut with Toronto content creator Snowd4y. As you can see by its title, it’s a cover of the Plain White T’s “Hey There Delilah” with some slang flips and intense auto-tuning. For some, it’s the silliest and most cringe-worthy thing you’ve heard this year but you can’t deny that we all needed a laugh and something more lightly cheeky. Whether that laughter is with him or at him is up to you.

Drake Becomes The First Artist To Surpass 100 Billion Spotify Streams (June 18, 2024)

Drake continued to be one of the most dominant artists in the music industry despite Kendrick Lamar’s victory. But did anyone really expect him not to be? It was no surprise when the OVO mogul became the first artist in Spotify history to garner over 100 billion streams across all credits. Kendrick may have the streaming crown when it comes to their diss tracks, but there’s a whole catalog of hits that are miles ahead.

“HOT UPTOWN” & “Uuugly” With Camila Cabello (June 28, 2024)

After many teases and even a supposed release push-back due to the feud, Drake and Camila Cabello finally showed off their chemistry… Or half of it. “HOT UPTOWN” is a bouncy duet, but “Uuugly” is his solo interlude off of her new album C,XOXO. Fans got the “summer vibes” they were promised, and as you’ll read further down, there was even more on the way.

Drake Seems To Cosign Rick Ross Vancouver Attack (June 30, 2024)

One of the most controversial post-beef moments occurred when Rick Ross played “Not Like Us” at a Vancouver festival, prompting Drake fans to confront him about it. He dismissed them, resulting in a brawl between both entourages. Much to the dismay or approval of many hip-hop figures and other commentators, Rozay’s former collaborator liked a post on Instagram about the incident, insinuating that he was happy to see him face the consequences of playing around with his name in his country.

Michael Rubin’s White Party (July 4, 2024)

The day that Kendrick Lamar dropped the “Not Like Us” music video, Drake was too busy partying with a whole lot of celebrities. Many folks debated whether or not he looked defeated and aged when pictures from the bash emerged. Nevertheless, it was probably a welcome break from all the drama. Rubin would later go on to reveal some details about the event, including his decision to ban Kendrick’s aforementioned West Coast banger from playing.

“Rap Is A Joke” (July 13, 2024)

We haven’t talked about them for the most part, but Drake had a lot of social media posts possibly referring to the beef in its aftermath. Among the most controversial was a picture of him wearing a shirt that read “Rap Is A Joke.” Whether this was an intentional message or just a shoutout to that brand, fans still thought that they were questionable words from a rap beef loser.

The Embassy Faces A Flood (July 16, 2024)

If you needed proof that Kendrick Lamar and Drake fans alike turned every little irrelevant thing into a discussion about the battle, look no further than this. When The Embassy flooded due to a torrential storm, the hate and love flowed almost as quickly as the muddy water crept through his doors and windows. We don’t really know the extent of the damage that this caused, but it was still a textbook hater moment on fans’ behalf during this battle’s aftermath.

ScHoolboy Q Accuses Drake Of Shutting Down His Toronto Show (July 17, 2024)

ScHoolboy Q caused an uproar online after claiming that Drake was partially but nonetheless directly responsible for his canceled show in Toronto. For what it’s worth, Roddy Ricch spoke on not being allowed back into Canada weeks before, and SiR also had his show canceled in the city weeks after. While Q was the only one to accuse OVO directly, none of these accusations or incidents actually link back to that camp at press time. Perhaps we will never know what caused these travel issues.

One of Drake’s biggest hip-hop supporters during and after his beef is 50 Cent. They linked up to party in Toronto over the summer after Fif’s various praises of Champagne Papi’s beef performance. The G-Unit mogul even teased that they would work together on something, which led many fans to blast 50 for betraying Kendrick Lamar in their eyes, as they’re both a part of Dr. Dre’s music career family tree.

Kai Cenat Leaks Lil Yachty Collab “Supersoak” (July 23, 2024)

At Lil Yachty’s request, Kai Cenat premiered an unreleased collaboration between the Let’s Start Here artist and Drake titled “Supersoak.” Yachty would go on to explain why the team-up would probably never come out, and his brief unfollow of his “Another Late Night” partner’s IG account made many fans think that they have some beef of their own going on. Although that’s probably an unlikely and misinterpreted possibility. For those unaware, the Concrete Boy had spoken on the Kendrick Lamar beef and sparked much criticism from OVO Stans as a result. Also, as we will find out later, it seems like “Supersoak” no longer features the Atlanta creative, making this leak and the subsequent narrative quite hard to get a grasp on.

“Sideways” & “Healing” With Gordo (July 26, 2024)

Drake’s next musical release comprised of two tracks on producer Gordo’s (formerly Carnage) album DIAMANTE. They recall some of the work that they did together on 2022’s Honestly, Nevermind, engaging in some breezy house sounds and gentle vocal melodies. More summer vibes had arrived, and fans were quite appreciative of the results.

Ebro Claims Conductor Williams Collab Album Is On The Way (July 31, 2024)

Ebro In The Morning held some very interesting claims, with its titular host and Peter Rosenberg hinting at Drake’s next move. Apparently, he has an album with Conductor Williams on the way, although the “Wick Man” artist himself never confirmed this or hinted at it. They previously collaborated on the fan-favorite “8AM In Charlotte.”

PARTYNEXTDOOR Collab Album Announcement At PND’s Toronto Show (August 2, 2024)

However, one collab album that Drake did announce was a PARTYNEXTDOOR team-up. They revealed the news at PND’s Toronto show, which means that many OVO die-hards’ dreams will come true very soon. The 6ix God suggested that it will come out when it’s colder outside, so maybe it will come out this fall, winter, or early in 2025. We will see.

Mustard Claims Drake & Gordo Tried To Sabotage His Album (August 4, 2024)

When Mustard dropped his Faith Of A Mustard Seed album, Drake fans clowned his relatively low sales. But the West Coast producer behind “Not Like Us” thinks that the Toronto lyricist told Gordo to drop his album on the same day to negatively affect these numbers. Ironically, DIAMANTE sold less than FOAMS, so this is just speculative animosity.

“100 GIGS” Wave No. 1: Website Launch (August 6, 2024)

Arguably Drake’s biggest move since the Kendrick Lamar battle was his massive “100 GIGS” content drop via his Instagram and a new website. This included three IG-only loosies, old footage, alternate album covers, merch designs, and a whole lot more. As far as the footage itself, a lot of it showed the songwriting and recording process behind unreleased or beloved tracks, behind-the-scenes concert footage, and casual vlog clips from The Boy’s earlier days. This lent extra context to some of his big hits, showed off his personable interactions with industry peers, highlighted his team’s roles, and captivated fans with its access into his world.

Snoh Accusations Of Revenge Porn Surface (August 9, 2024)

Around this time, though, some very concerning accusations regarding Drake surfaced. His association with (and praise and support of) Kick streamer Snoh caused many fans to raise their eyebrows since she faces accusations of coercing minors into exposing themselves and recording revenge porn. Given all the harrowing claims that became massive angles in the Kendrick Lamar battle, this is among the more concerning Aubrey updates in the feud’s aftermath.

“100 GIGS” Wave No. 1: Three-Pack Hits DSPs (August 10, 2024)

After a lot of social media hype, Drake’s 100 GIGS cuts finally made it onto streaming: a Latto collab, a solo cut, and a Young Thug and 21 Savage team-up. They landed at 85, 63, and 28 respectively on the Billboard Hot 100, and held at least a few bars that fans thought hinted towards more leftover disses against his many rap rivals. As you’ll read very soon, this became even more apparent thanks to what came out a couple of weeks later…

Fuerza Regida Member Claims Drake Is Starting A New Record Label (Hit News Cycles Around August 12, Interview Published July 18, 2024)

In mid-August, Drake fans looked back at Bootleg Kev’s interview with Jesús Ortíz Paz of Fuerza Regida and found some very interesting claims. Paz, also known as JOP, claimed that the 6ix God started a new record label called PFL in collaboration with the Mexican group’s label and Chino Pacas. Perhaps we will hear The Boy over some corridos soon.

“Buffalo Freestyle” With Benny The Butcher Drops & Disappears (August 23)

In other music-related news, Benny The Butcher finally dropped his long-awaited Drake collab “Buffalo Freestyle” on his Buffalo Butch, Vol. 1 EP. However, the track disappeared from streaming services very quickly, seemingly due to a UMG copyright strike. As such, it seems like the Griselda affiliate was right in once assuming that it would never see the light of day, although we don’t know the reason why at press time.

“100 GIGS” Wave No. 2 (August 23)

Drake updated “100 GIGS” in even more dramatic fashion, with another new three-pack (including the aforementioned and Lil Yachty-less “Supersoak”) and loads of new content. Some of these new clips, such as Kanye West at OVO Fest 2013 and J. Cole buying Born Sinner CDs with his “First Person Shooter” partner, were already in the public discourse. Most importantly, these new tracks – including a Playboi Carti collab – contained even more obvious and pointed “sumbiminals” against the many rappers that formed part of 2024’s rap feud.

Drake Claims He Will “Win Game 2” In Beef With Kendrick Lamar & Co. (August 25)

Most recently, Drake posted a video of Rasheed Wallace saying that his team will “win Game 2,” sending fans into a frenzy at the thought of another battle with Kendrick Lamar and company. While he deleted this IG Story soon after, the message was clear. We still don’t know exactly how specific Drake wants to go, or what “100 GIGS” could lead up to. But one thing is clear: he doesn’t just want to stick around. Champagne Papi wants to dominate the conversation and make his connections to the entire rap world very clear. To see what else comes in this boastful timeline, stick around on HNHH.

Kevin Abstract Is As Sweet As Ever On New Single “I LOVE THESE HOES, THEY DONT JUDGE ME”

It’s been seven years now since Kevin Abstract and the rest of BROCKHAMPTON fully burst onto hip-hop’s upper artistic echelon through their SATURATION series. While the group is no more, its members continue to make amazing music that feels very characteristic of their unique individual qualities, and Kevin is no exception. For an artist as versatile as he is, though, his artistic qualities range from bombastic vibrance to soft but still passionate tenderness. On his latest single “I LOVE THESE HOES, THEY DONT JUDGE ME,” the Texas native swaps out the Soulja Boy influence on the recent “DIRTY BOY SWAG” for a lo-fi, high-pitched, and addictively sweet sound. This is the latest release in Kevin Abstract’s as-of-yet prolific “GLUE era,” comprised of mostly YouTube-exclusive singles including the more peppy “BIG DOG.”

Hopefully these manifest into a project down the road, but if not, the numerous tracks in this series so far have all been quite stellar. On “I LOVE THESE HOES, THEY DONT JUDGE ME,” he also enlists additional vocals from one of his best collaborators as of late: Quadeca. This builds off their chemistry on cuts like “Tennessee” (which Quad produced) and their SCRAPYARD collaboration “TEXAS BLUE.” If you haven’t heard this track yet, don’t miss it, or else you might miss out on your favorite song of the week. You can find the song on YouTube and let us know what you think about it down in the comments section. Finally, check out some notables lines from the record below and, as always, stick around on HNHH for more amazing music drops around the clock.

Playboi Carti Deletes “2024” Off Of YouTube Amid Album Delays

Playboi Carti is one of the biggest artists in all of hip-hop. Overall, he has a cult-like fanbase who follows his every move. Unfortunately, he hasn’t exactly been too kind to his fanbase as of late. Aside from Whole Lotta Red in 2020, Carti fans have only gotten a handful of songs. These songs were released between November 2023 and March 2024 as a means to promote his upcoming album I Am Music. One of those songs was called “2024” and it was among the most popular to have been released.

However, it seems like Carti’s entire rollout might just be on hold. Overall, we say this because he just deleted “2024” from YouTube. If you check out his YouTube page, you will see that the song is no longer there. While most of his songs from this year were released exclusively to Instagram, there were a couple to hit YouTube, and “2024” was one of them. Of course, there are plenty of re-posts on the internet, although fans are still worried as to what Carti is trying to say with this.

It could be nothing. Moreover, it could just be a sample clearance issue. However, the prevailing theory is that the song might not make sense anymore if he has no plans to drop an album in 2024. Throughout the year, Carti has been prepping his fans for an album. Cardo recently noted that he and Carti have been in the lab, finishing the album. Needless to say, there is a massive lack of clarity on the situation, and there is no telling what is going to happen next.

Let us know what you think about this update, in the comments section down below. Do you believe that it is a bad look for Playboi Carti to be deleting songs like this? Do you believe that he will, in fact, drop a new album later this year? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. We will continue to keep you informed on all your favorite artists and their upcoming projects.
