Why Did Drake Remove “Blue Green Red” From Streaming Services?

Drake is in the midst of a comeback following his devastating defeat to Kendrick Lamar but unfortunately, his attempt has led to new hurdles. The single, “Blue Green Red,” part of the first 100 Gigs drop, was quietly pulled from streaming services this week. The 100 Gigs 3-pack on DSPs has replaced the song with “Circadian Rhythm.”

Per Dancehall Mag, the song was pulled due to allegations of copyright infringement of Tiger’s 1991 “When.” Producer Cleveland “Clevie” Brown spearheaded the claim against the Canadian rapper, claiming that the song illegally interpolates elements of the dancehall single. Below, we dove into the details surrounding why the single was removed from streaming services.

The Controversial Interpolation

The trouble began when “Blue Green Red” was shared last month as part of Drake’s dump of unreleased content. The track was officially released on August 10, 2024, through OVO/Republic Records, a division of UMG Recordings. However, just days later, Clevie, who produced “When” as part of the iconic duo Steely & Clevie, claimed that Drake’s song used the melody and lyrics from Tiger’s hit without proper clearance. Clevie spoke with DancehallMag, revealing that his publishers, SONY/EMI, had reached out to discuss clearance. The problem is they did not provide the track for review. Despite the lack of approval, Drake’s label went ahead and released the song.

“SONY/EMI [his publishers] called on Friday and said they were seeking clearance for When but they did not send the song. We can’t clear a song without hearing it. But Drake went ahead and leaked it before. The record company [UMG] blocked Drake’s release and then went ahead and released the song over the weekend without us giving any clearance. Because they did this before the fact, that can mean problems,” he said. “They used the melody just in a section, and it was repeated twice. So this is a clear infringement.” The line in question on Drake’s song comes in the post-chorus when he raps, “What the clock inna London? Yeah, Big Ben.” Tiger’s original lyrics are “Weh di clock inna London name? (Big Ben).”

Ongoing Legal Battles

What’s perhaps worse about this situation is that Drake has previously faced similar accusations by Steely & Clevie Productions. In the past, the duo has filed lawsuits against 160 artists and record labels, including Drake and UMG. Specifically, they claim the parties infringed on their 1989 riddim, “Fish Market,” which they allege was used on songs like “One Dance” and Bad Bunny’s “Mia,” which are part of 1,800 songs listed in the lawsuit.

Clevie explained that last-minute clearance requests are common in the music industry. “They often wait till the last minute to seek clearance. But we need to know the frequency of how the work is used so that we can evaluate what is reasonable in terms of copyright share,” he said.

Past Infringements & Industry Practices

Interestingly, Clevie also discovered that another popular song had used “When” without his knowledge. Usher and Nicki Minaj’s 2014 track “She Came II Give It II You” featured elements of the song. Still, no clearance had been obtained at the time. Clevie pointed out that there is a three-year statute of limitations on songs. However, there is also a non-discovery rule that allows legal action if it can be proven that the infringement was not known within that time frame.

This situation highlights the complexities of clearing samples and publishing splits – a prevalent issue in the music industry. Clevie elaborated on how copyright infringement affects not just the author of the lyrics but also the composition and authorship of the music itself. “When they infringe on a song, it affects the composition and authorship of the song as it relates to the share of the publishing rights,” he explained.

The Legacy Of Tiger’s “When”

Tiger is a legendary dancehall figure whose distinctive growl and energetic delivery helped him dominate the 1980s. Songs like “Wanga Gut,” “Puppy Love,” and “Ram Dancehall.” His collaboration with Steely & Clevie on “When” in 1991 marked a significant comeback that subsequently led leading to his first album on a major American label. Claws Of The Cat, was released through Sony Music’s Chaos subsidiary.

The single undoubtedly has had an understated impact globally but according to Clevie, the song was born from a casual conversation that he had with Tiger. “We wrote ‘When’ in half an hour, we did the riddim, and Tiger was searching songs when someone called him about a show, and he kept asking them ‘when?’,” Clevie recalled. The producer explained that the organic process behind the song has provided an enduring appeal. Evidently, they created a timeless record that has clearly influenced some of the biggest musicians.

The Future Of “Blue Green Red”

As the legal drama unfolds, the future of “Blue Green Red” remains uncertain. It seems likely that it wasn’t intended to hit streaming services ever, considering it was released for free on 100gigs.org. Unfortunately, “Blue Green Red” is facing similar restrictions to “S.O.D.,” a collaboration with Lil Yachty that debuted on Kai Cenat’s stream. The problem with the latter is that the artist they sampled, Mr_Hotspot, wanted them to create a clean version of the record for an official release, Billboard reports. Though Drake later re-released the song sans Yachty through the 100gigs.org website, it still hasn’t hit streamers yet. DJ Akademiks, however, stated that there is a music video for the song.

For now, it appears that only a select few records from the content dump will make their way onto DSPs. At least, the ones that have gone through the proper channels to gain clearance. However, we could imagine that something could be worked out in the future. Hopefully, it will allow these records to return to platforms like Apple Music and Spotify.

Drake Drops “No Face” On Streaming Services, But There’s A Disappointing Catch

The second wave of “100 GIGS” content is following its predecessor’s lead: drop some songs on IG and bring them to DSPs little by little. However, Drake’s new tracks have also fallen victim to some big changes and plan shifts during this process, and streaming didn’t even have to be a factor for this to happen. For example, when we heard a CDQ version of “Supersoak (SOD)” via the @plottttwistttttt IG burner account, we realized that it no longer featured Lil Yachty as that track’s original leak did. Now, we have another example of this. The Boy dropped the well-received “No Face” on streaming services on Saturday (August 31), but Playboi Carti is no longer on it.

Furthermore, this is pretty disappointing and mysterious, as there’s no identifiable reason as to why the Atlanta rage exponent isn’t on the track anymore. But it’s not like he washed Drake on the track. Playboi Carti’s contributions were already just a minimal hook, and his collaborator definitely steals the show with his verses an energy. Still, we can’t help but think back on those Atlanta bars on Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” and how they have aged somewhat poorly. Some name-dropped artists like Quavo support Drizzy to this day, but even though Carti escaped K.Dot’s mention this time around, this is objectively a failed attempt to get a few dollars, even if the reasoning behind the collaboration falling through probably has nothing to do with the beef or with the “colonizer” argument. At least he dropped “Circadian Rhythm” on DSPs…

Drake Drops A Playboi Carti-Less “No Face” On DSPs

In other Drake news, KAYTRANADA recently revisited the topic of why the OVO camp never reached out to him again to produce for Honestly, Nevermind. “[KAYTRANADA] was approached at a Coachella after-party in L.A. to make beats for Honestly, Nevermind,” a Vulture interview with the producer read. “Though he says it would have been ‘an honor,’ he later overheard that it fell through because his casual response — ‘Sure, hit me up’ — lacked fawning enthusiasm.” “Was I supposed to be like, ‘Oh my God, for real? Drake?’ I’m not like that,” he added.

Even though Drake hinted at this Playboi Carti collab landing on streaming in its full form, it seems like that didn’t work out. Or at least, not yet. It’s still possible that he will update more of these releases in the near future. After all, part of the strategy right now is hitting DSPs once the Internet takes these tracks for a test run and builds hype to influence its release methods and circumstances.

Drake Adds A New Song To His “100 GIGS” Three-Pack On Streaming

Drake sent the internet into a frenzy (as he usually does) about a week ago by dropping off three new songs. Like he did with “Blue Green Red”, “It’s Up”, and “Housekeeping Knows”, he put on them on his recently created Instagram burner account plottttwistttttt. For this round Drizzy put out “Supersoak (SOD)”, minus Lil Yachty, “No Face”, featuring Playboi Carti, and “Circadian Rhythm”. Eventually, The Boy would go onto release the OG three-pack onto streaming services about four days after. This time, though, Drake waited about a week to place more 100 GIGS content on DSPs.

However, you may be disappointed to learn that only one of the new tracks got a wider release. According to RapTV, the hitmaker only sent through “Circadian Rhythm”. When you go onto any of his DSP accounts, there are now two 100 GIGS EPs. You have the original and then the aforementioned cut slots in place of “Blue Green Red” and is flanked by “It’s Up” and “Housekeeping Knows”.

It’s sort of an interesting move to not just release “No Face” and “Supersoak” along with “Circadian Rhythm”. However, it’s worth noting that Lil Yachty said that “Supersoak” would never get an official release due to sample clearance issues. As for “No Face”, there really isn’t a reason as to why it’s not on streaming. Hopefully, that comes to fruition, but it seems that most Drake stans are happy with arguably the most memorable track from this new crop of three out everywhere.

What are your thoughts on Drake putting “Circadian Rhythm” on the 100 GIGS three-pack? Do you think he should have put out “Supersoak (SOD)” and “No Face” onto streaming, why or why not? Is he winning you over with any of these new releases? Do you approve or disapprove of his strategy post beef? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Drake Turns Up With Travis Scott In New “100 GIGS” Footage Amid Supposed Beef

Drake and Travis Scott are arguably hip-hop’s two biggest hitmakers right now, so their collaborative bond should come as no surprise. Moreover, this is a relationship that the former highlighted on his @plottttwistttttt IG burner, part of his “100 GIGS” content drop series. In the clip, they both vibe out at a party to the tunes of their “P***y & Millions” collab off Drizzy’s 2022 21 Savage joint album Her Loss, as well as “Beast” by Golomp. However, many fans were particularly interested in this clip because of the supposed beef that the “SICKO MODE” duo has with each other now.

For those unaware, this theory emerged amid Drake’s various 2024 beefs with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Future, Metro Boomin, and more. Fans thought that Travis Scott picked a side with his actions, although his subsequent shoutouts to Drake hint toward this just being a speculative assumption. As such, it’s hard to fully get a grasp of what’s going on here and what their relationship looks like now. Apparently, fans will need some more concrete evidence to really set this rumor aside.

Drake & Travis Scott At A Party

Also, this is particularly curious because of Drake’s other content that he shared via this “100 GIGS” platform. For example, he also included a classic clip of Kanye West crediting him with inspiring his Watch The Throne collab album with Jay-Z in 2011. Another video shows the Toronto superstar linking up with J. Cole to buy a whole lot of Born Sinner copies at a Best Buy in 2013. Given the complicated history that he shares with Ye and Cole, it stands to reason that this footage with Travis Scott could also function along this bizarre and potentially shady line, reflecting on the allies that he lost on the way.

Nevertheless, this is all just the latest stop on the gossip train, so take this all with a grain of salt. It’s still ironic, especially as Travis Scott’s Kendrick Lamar collab “goosebumps” just went Diamond. So we’ll see whether Drake or La Flame ever fuel these rumors or if they quell them outright. Until then, all we can do is guess.

Drake Catches A Second Wind On The Latest “100 Gigs” Drop But Is It Enough?

DJ Akademiks nor any of his like-minded colleagues have made a compelling case about why “Family Matters” is the best diss track to emerge from Drake’s feud with Kendrick Lamar besides, “it was a 20 v. 1” or “he rapped over three beats.” It might suffice for pedestrian rap fans, but those two arguments alone embody Drake’s appeal to his core audience: quantity over quality. Drake’s turnover rate has been so high over the past four years that a third installment in the Scary Hours series arrived less than a month after his highly-anticipated eighth studio album to equally shaky reception. Though most anticipated that he’d go on an extended break after For All The Dogs, the emergence of King Kendrick in the midst of the second leg of the It’s All A Blur tour stifled his plans.

We’re basically four months removed from the beef of the decade. The summer’s over, and we’re entering the final quarter of 2024 that will preview what’s to come next year. And yet for the last few months, the top charting spots on the Hot 100 that have been historically reserved for Drake’s summer reign have been occupied by a diss song that paints him as a colonizer, a pedophile, a thief, a human trafficker, and an abuser, among many other heinous labels. “Not Like Us” will likely carry through the fall, especially among the marching bands that anchor the spirit of HBCUs nationwide.

Through strategy and consistency, Kendrick Lamar managed to dim Drake’s star power in a matter of days. By the time Drake returned with “The Heart Pt. 6,” Kendrick was clearly the victor, yet no one could’ve predicted the damage inflicted by a record like “Not Like Us.” The volley of insults and accusations came to a standstill and no one, except for Drake loyalists, felt that Kendrick needed to carry on any further with this beef, even as he was accused of domestic violence. After years of proving that he earned his space within a battle realm among hip-hop’s elite, Kendrick revealed Drake’s Achilles heel: being on the defense. The defeat has been rather brutal to witness. The brightest alumni under Lil Wayne’s Young Money had been stomped out like a cigarette butt.

In the months that followed, his approach to asserting his dominance came in the form of jokey-joke records (“U My Everything,” “Wha Gwan Delilah”), a pair of records on Camilla Cabello’s album, and another two songs on Gordo’s album. None of them felt like the “summer vibes” we were truly promised, nor did they make any meaningful impact on the same charts that Drake dominated for 10+ years. “Not Like Us” wasn’t a career-ender but a song that was big enough to eclipse a 15-year hot streak for a summer. Drake’s Billboard accomplishments, historical streaming feats, and cultural value have recently become obsolete in the grand conversation. Some agreed with Kendrick’s analysis of Drake’s place in hip-hop, while others completely fell into the rabbit hole of the “meet the grahams” cover art. Those who already had a disdain towards Drake felt vindicated that someone with a platform as big as Kendrick Lamar’s finally said the quiet parts out loud. But “Not Like Us” isn’t the kill shot people expect it to be. Losing a rap battle of this magnitude isn’t easy to stomach. The perception surrounding who Drake is behind the scenes hasn’t worn off entirely yet. And with his back against the wall, the Canadian superstar finally has the opportunity to get on the offensive line.

The launch of the 100 Gigs, through the @plottttwistttttt account, has marked a second wind in what appears to be another chapter in the storied journey of Drake’s career. The first drop, which arrived at the top of August, included three new songs, “It’s Up” ft. Young Thug & 21 Savage, “Red Blue Green,” and “Housekeeping Knows” ft. Latto and hours of unreleased footage that shared a behind-the-scenes look at the making of beloved records and albums, his travels across the world, moments with his family, and brushing shoulders with celebrity friends. Though the music itself sounded as generic as a ChatGPT prompt to create a Drake song, the moments where he’s playing ping-pong with Stephen Curry, conversing with his mom during the “Hotline Bling” session about Serena Williams, or putting the final touches on albums like Scorpion with 40 humanizes him with glimpses of the artist that we initially grew to love.

But the second batch feels a bit more sinister. With plenty of hints towards a second round, the release of “No Face” and “Circadian Rhythm” felt like the beginning of a new chapter where Drake wants his lick back. The former is much more confrontational and aggressive, anchored by the industrial-leaning synths and a minimal yet effective inclusion of Playboi Carti. But beyond that, the record is opening up the floodgates to another round with a bit more preparation behind it. “Try to knock the Boy but f*ck it, I’m stayin’ on,” he raps. “It’s so many people we turnin’ the tables on/ Capo got plans, but we’ll save that for later on/ Hush’ll keep sayin’ they know that they played it wrong.” Add to the fact that recently surfaced footage of Drake and 40 discussing a potential collaboration with Kendrick surfaced (dating back to 2012-2013), it’s clear that Drake is hinting that he has some sort of bombshell in the cut, whether new music or footage, that might finally debunk conspiracies that he has a hidden 11-year-old daughter, which is literally the least concerning aspect of “meet the grahams.”

Internet sleuths might get stuck in a rabbit hole trying to crack the hidden messages intertwined in diss songs and social media posts. Or maybe, the speculation could end with the next 100 Gigs content dump. Ultimately, the recent string of releases shouldn’t be overlooked as an attempt to move past the narrative but rather, an attempt to take control of it. We’re either on the receiving end of an album that will fan the flames of criticism or witness the unfolding of a diabolical plan that will plant Drake’s foot on the neck of Kendrick Lamar and everyone else who chose a side.

Drake Teases Unreleased Kendrick Lamar Collab In New “100 Gigs” Clip

Drake is continuing to play the long game. The rapper has been steadily dishing out content on his 100 Gigs website. More recently, the content seems to be focused on people he currently has beef with. He posted a 2013 clip in which he praised Kanye West. Then, days later, he followed the controversial artist on Instagram. Drake did it again on August 27. The rapper decided to upload a clip in which him and his longtime producer discuss a Kendrick Lamar collaboration. A collaboration none of us knew about.

The bulk of the clip sees producer Noah “40” Shebib tinker with a beat. Drake then enters the frame and proceeds to explain how Kendrick Lamar will sound great on it. “For him, where he’s at,” Drake explained. “I know he’s gonna murder this.” 40’s response suggests that he made the beat specifically for a Drake and Kendrick Lamar collab. “When you told me Kendrick,” he noted. “It just made so much sense.” The beat in question was co-produced by Dreamville artist Omen. We know this because the beat was later used by Action Bronson on the 2013 song “Actin’ Crazy.”

Drake Was Excited To Rap With K. Dot In Old Footage

The release date of the Bronsolino song helps provide a time frame for when the Drake and Dot collab was supposed to happen. The two rappers linked up for “Poetic Justice” in 2012 and “F*ckin Problems” in 2013. Issues arose later in the year, when Lamar dropped the “Control” verse and Drake threw a few subs his way on the song “The Language.” Drake’s physical appearance in the 100 Gigs clip aligns with this timeframe. It’s unclear whether Lamar ever spit a verse on the “Actin’ Crazy” beat, or if Drake even put down bars.

What is clear, though, is the chess move. Drake is very purposely putting material about Kendrick Lamar on his website. The rapper seemingly wants the battle to keep going, and is resorting to tactics that are less direct than a diss song. An internet theory is that Drake will eventually release evidence that he fed Lamar’s team the false information that was used on “Meet the Grahams.” There’s noting to support this, but we are entering new territory in terms of Lamar-related content. The next few weeks should be interesting, to say the least.

Drake And The Weeknd Appear To Hate Eachother In Resurfaced “100 Gigs” Clip

Drake has shared a video of himself and The Weeknd backstage during OVO Fest in 2013 in which the two appear to not be on the best of terms. The clip starts with Drake dapping up everyone in the room except for The Weeknd and joking with them about his performance at the festival. Right before it ends, he finally acknowledges The Weeknd’s presence.

Fans on social media say it shows that the two haven’t been on good terms for years. “You can tell Abel does not fw him lol,” one user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote in response. Another noted: “Drake a slimey guy. Peep how he cut the footage immediately he acknowledged the weekend and was about to dap him up.” Others reflected on how much they’ve grown over the last decade. “The Weeknd was on the rise back then, and you could just tell he was going to be huge. Seeing this footage now is a reminder of how far he’s come. OVO Fest 2013 was iconic,” one fan added.

Drake’s “100 Gigs” Release Sparks Viral Fan Theory About His Next Move In Kendrick Lamar Feud

Drake fans think the Toronto rapper is going to share footage of himself baiting Kendrick Lamar with fake info in their ongoing feud as part of his next “100 Gigs” release. The theory began when one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “I low key feel like this 100 gigs drops are eventually gonna lead to footage of Drake feeding Kendrick the fake info.” Akademiks TV ended up sharing the post on Instagram shortly afterward. That move sparked debate from fans in the comments section.

“That’s not a flex tho. He was better off acting like he didn’t know where Kendrick got the info,” one top commenter wrote. Another user added: “That was recent though… they could literally reenact it now and put it out like it was 2 months ago lol.” One more suggested it wouldn’t even change the outcome of the battle. “But my guy lost tho. So it doesn’t matter tbh cause the false info sh*t didn’t lead to drizzy winning,” they wrote.

The theory comes after Drake shared footage of Kanye West speaking at OVO Fest in 2013 with his latest update to the website. “As I stand in this city right now, I just want y’all to understand that it’s been a lot of rappers that came in the game that wasn’t able to do something like this for their city,” West said on stage at the event. “We wouldn’t be able to make the music that we make. Drake & J Cole Stock Up On “Born Sinner” CDs In Old Clip From Drizzy’s “100 GIGS” Website

Fans aren’t really clear on whether or not J. Cole and Drake are still cool with each other after the Kendrick Lamar battle this year. However, a new batch of footage that the latter released on his “100 GIGS” website suggests that it’s all still love. Moreover, he included an old video that many fans might recognize, showing the “First Person Shooter” duo buying a lot of Cole’s Born Sinner CDs at a New York Best Buy back when it dropped in 2013. Along with some other commonly accessible footage, some fans cheekily wonder why the 6ix God is sharing this stuff from the vault when a quick YouTube search is just as effective. To make matters even more ironic, the video is literally on Cole’s page.

Nevertheless, that’s a nit-picky and irrelevant argument to make if you want to add that to your Drake hater resumé. Jokes aside, another example of this is his inclusion of a classic clip of Kanye West at OVO Fest 2013. In the video, Ye credits the Toronto superstar for inspiring him and Jay-Z to make Watch The Throne together after the “pressure” that he was putting on them and the rap game at the time.

Drake & J. Cole Go On A CD Shopping Spree

Elsewhere, though, it seems like J. Cole might continue to be a “MIDDLE CHILD” when it comes to Drake, a situation he found himself in during March and April of this year. Many fans clowned the Dreamville MC’s decision to retract his Kendrick Lamar disss, thus placing him in between of two warring colleagues. But at the end of the day, it’s probably the most humanistic, honest, and respectable moment to emerge out of this entire saga. Regardless, the reason why he might be stuck between two worlds again is not only because of his feature on Future and Metro Boomin’s WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU, but because of a supposed collab with A$AP Rocky that will land on the Harlem creative’s next album.

Meanwhile, all these new Drake drops (and shots at his opps) sharply contrast his rival Kendrick Lamar’s silence these days. He might release something soon according to a couple of unverifiable sources, but you’ve been hearing that all year, if not all decade. At least that whole situation didn’t seem to impact Drizzy and J. Cole’s bond, if this re-uploaded Best Buy video is any indication. But some fans will not stop their speculations until their relationship is as clear as day.

Kanye West Thanks Drake For Inspiring “Watch The Throne” In New “100 GIGS” Website Clip

We all know the story of how Kanye West and Drake allegedly took inspiration from Drake for their 2011 collab album Watch The Throne. Well, we say allegedly because there are some conflicting reports about whether or not the title was inspired by an ESPN report on LeBron James’ loss in his first NBA Finals appearance rather than a Drizzy lyric about “the throne” being for the taking. Regardless, it’s fun to reminisce, no? The Toronto superstar certainly thinks so, as he recently dropped a lot of footage and content on his recently unveiled “100 GIGS” website. One of these clips features Ye crediting him with inspiring his Hov team-up at OVO Fest 2013, a bizarre moment to look back on considering their on-and-off-again beef.

“As I stand in this city right now, I just want y’all to understand that it’s been a lot of rappers that came in the game that wasn’t able to do something like this for their city,” Kanye West told the crowd at OVO Fest 11 years ago. “We wouldn’t be able to make the music that we make. Me and Hov would’ve never made Watch The Throne if this n***a wasn’t putting pressure on us like that.” Drake continues with the pressure, as this new “100 GIGS” footage also included two new three-packs of songs. It’s also not the first time that he included something about Ye in these “100 GIGS” drops.

Kanye West Speaks On Drake’s “Pressure” At OVO Fest 2013

In fact, fans think that the 6ix God will drop even more content, music, or maybe even a new album very soon thanks to his latest hints on his @plottttwistttttt IG burner account. That remains speculative at this point, but based on all that he’s been posting and sharing these days, surely more is on the way. Still, OVO fans and haters alike wonder what this is all for. This new clip of Kanye West suggests that Drake is trying to make his legacy and impact as clear as day, as well as flooding his opposition with material to dominate the conversation.
