The Kendrick Lamar Mural In Compton Was Vandalized With Gang Graffiti That Was Mistaken For A Pro-Drake Message

According to XXL, a video has surfaced on social media of someone vandalizing a Compton-based mural of Kendrick Lamar with gang graffiti. While the tags represent a local Mexican-American street gang, the graffiti was mistaken for a pro-Drake message after some fans interpreted the “CVTF” as an “OVO.” (A reminder, some of you are really not like us, and should keep out of hood politics, thinking it’s entertainment.)

The mural, on the wall of Honduras Restaurant Mi Sabor, depicts Kendrick being honored with the key to the city in 2016 and accepting his Best Rap Album Grammy for his album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers in 2023, along with a reference to his Good Kid, MAAD City cover. It’s easy to see why some fans — perhaps the ones who should be wearing 50 SPF sunblock at all times, even in the winter — would want to interpret the vandalism as the latest extension of the rap beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. After all, it’d be fair to say that plenty of Drake fans are still sore about the drubbing he received at the hands of his former collaborator.

However, it seems, although Kendrick is very much a hometown hero, even he isn’t bigger than hood politics — or ratchet ass kids trying to make a name for themselves.

ScHoolBoy Q & The Alchemist Trade Bars On New Single “Ferraris In The Rain”

ScHoolBoy Q is coming off the album Blue Lips which many feel to be the best of the entire year. Meanwhile, The Alchemist has also been having an amazing year. In fact, his biggest song was part of the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef, “Meet The Grahams.” Yesterday, it was revealed that this morning, they would be premiering a new collaboration called “Ferraris In The Rain.” Moreover, it was revealed that The Alchemist is dropping an album called The Genuine Articulate.

Well, the song has just dropped as promised, and it is incredible. Throughout the song, we get The Alchemist’s infamous sampling style. Meanwhile, he is the one who kicks off the song with some smooth flows and clever bars. Eventually, ScHoolBoy Q takes over and makes his presence felt. The two have great chemistry, and the slight beat switch at the end of the song makes the whole collaboration come together. If there is one thing for certain, it is that we are excited about this new Alchemist album.

Let us know what you think of this new track, in the comments section down below. Do you like this new effort from ScHoolBoy Q and The Alchemist? What are you expecting from his upcoming album? Blueface Makes Institutional Transition Following Sentencing Decision

Authorities have reportedly transferred Blueface to North Kern State Prison in Delano, California, where he will serve out his four-year sentence for violating the terms of his probation. He had been behind bars at Los Angeles Men’s Central Jail since his initial January arrest. The probation stemmed from a 2021 case for assault.

Despite the lengthy sentence, Blueface expects to spend significantly less time in the California prison. Speaking with Gina View and DJ Hed for a recent interview on their radio show, Effective Immediately, he explained: “I got a year credit, so that goes down to three years. And I gotta do 33 percent of that.” He noted that he thinks March or April of next year is a realistic timeframe for his release. As for how he’s doing, he added: “I’m chilling, man. I’m in my environment…It’s like a little break from responsibility…I cut all my hair off I’m about to get the weight cracking. I’m like 180 right now; I’ve never been 180 before. I’m getting sized up, I’m about to bounce out looking like a dalmatian.”

In addition to Blueface, the mother of his youngest child, Chrisean Rock, was also arrested for a probation violation. Despite being able to get out of jail while awaiting her next court date on September 27th, Rock ended up missing her son’s first birthday. “Missing a significant event like a first birthday can bring feelings of sadness or regret, but it’s also an opportunity to reflect on the continuous love and care you provide every day,” she wrote on Instagram. “The forgiving ourselves. Moving forward, cherish the moments you have, and remember that God’s grace is sufficient for every need.”

Young Dolph’s Murder Case Remains Puzzling Following Latest Update

The murder case of beloved Memphis rapper Young Dolph continues to raise a lot of eyebrows. Over just the course of this year, the trial has seen multiple delays, and it’s led to a lot of people calling out the Justice System. In fact, the MC’s partner, Mia Jaye, went on an explosive rant venting her and a lot of others assumed frustrations. “My love’s life was taken… And to be left behind to see no one be held accountable in the [court] of law for the act… Is INS*NE. Our family has witnessed lenient bonds being granted, absurd requests for the defendants to get a venue motion, freedom, more time to create a stronger defense, witnessed songs made, defendants enjoying life while on H.A… All while our loved one is 6feet deep”.

Unfortunately, her, the rest Dolph’s loved ones, and fans alike are going to have to witness even more court hearings. According to AllHipHop, the hopeful final trial will go down on Monday, September 23. Originally, this date was only going to be for the alleged shooters, Justin Johnson and Cornelius Smith. However, after an appearance in court yesterday by the supposed organizer of the rapper’s murder, Hernandez Govan, he will be joining Johnson and Smith.

Young Dolph’s Murder Trial Will Resume In Two Weeks

However, it’s unknown if Govan will be tried alone on the same day, or alongside his alleged assailants. Judge Jennifer Mitchell gave off the impression that it’s the latter, though. So, local Memphis news station FOX 13 reached out to prosecutors to get any sort of confirmation on the matter. However, the results were futile. “We are unable to release those specifics at this time – in order to not compromise investigation”, they said. Govan, Johnson and Smith all are staring at first-degree murder charges.

What are your thoughts on this latest Young Dolph murder trial update? Do you think having all three prime suspects being tried on the same day work out? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Young Dolph. Kanye West Shared A Performance Clip And Tyler The Creator Is Seemingly Baffled By The Backing Track Usage

Rather than straight-up concerts, lately, Kanye West has been hosting events that are more like listening parties, where his music plays and he himself isn’t rapping. Last night (September 9), Ye shared a clip from one of these performances, in South Korea on August 23, on his Instagram, and it drew the attention of Tyler The Creator.

Tyler seemed perhaps confused or frustrated about what’s going on, as he commented on the post (as HotNewHipHop notes), “n**** u was right there just say the words!!!!!!!! [heart-eyes emojis].”

The event itself seemed pretty comprehensive, though. As setlist.fm notes, songs from West and Ty Dolla Sign’s Vultures albums were played from their studio versions, but then West performed 54 of his own songs.

There was some speculation in 2023 that Tyler had dissed Ye on “Stuntman” from Call Me If You Get Lost: The Estate Sale. Tyler explained at the time, though, “I’ve seen fans saying on the last verse of ‘Stuntman,’ people were like, ‘Oh, he’s talking about Kanye!.’ And I’m like, ‘You guys are f*cking stupid and have terrible comprehension skills.’ I would never disrespect — like, no, I love that n****. That is not about him. It’s actually about the rest of the world.”

LL COOL J “THE FORCE” Album Review

LL COOL J’s new album THE FORCE closes a 40-year loop with Def Jam Recordings, through which he released his and the label’s first song “I Need A Beat” in 1984. While this isn’t the end of his career, it does feel like a last hurrah of sorts. After all, hip-hop recently turned half a century old, it’s LL’s first album in 11 years, and the rap game definitely looks unrecognizable compared to when he first entered. But even with all this in mind, what makes this new project particularly compelling is that it still sounds fresh, hungry, grounded, and above all, passionate. With Q-Tip at the production helm and so much perspective to reflect on through his pen, Mr. “Ladies Love Cool James” successfully translates his dominance of fundamental skills into the contemporary era.

Rather than sticking to a traditionally conservative idea of boom-bap, Q-Tip mixes in many different styles and sonic moods through his instrumentals as THE FORCE‘s main beatsmith. The opening track “Spirit Of Cyrus” featuring Snoop Dogg is an immediate example: ambient sounds of nature at night add vivid atmosphere to LL’s condemnation of police brutality, contrasted by a crisp drum pattern, warm wah guitars, eerie synthesizers, and haunting vocal samples. In addition, the modern mixes on these songs make them fully come alive more so than his typical material. The modular progression on “Black Code Suite” with Sona Jobarteh is a captivating mix of timbres, “Proclivities” with Saweetie is one of the Queens MC’s most dreamy and woozy beats to date, and “30 Decembers” dazzles with a surprisingly psychedelic guitar line.

LL COOL J’s Pen Is Still Sharp

As for lyricism, it’s very simple: LL COOL J’s still got it. He delivers single-issue odes, paralleling religion and culture, like “For the sake of equality, I’m fathering the song/ Spirit of God, bring he and her along” on “Praise Him” featuring Nas. LL sharpens his rhyme schemes and double entendres for more aggressive onslaughts, such as “This Halloween: them candy bars’ll get you killed in the forest” off of “Murdergram Deux” with Eminem. James Todd Smith doesn’t stray far from his typical wheelhouse, exploring generational changes, decades-long luxurious success, Black empowerment and solidarity, youthful memories, and fulfilling his family’s lifelong goals. For the most part, he also frames his bars within a focused linear structure that nurtures his streams of consciousness. One example is “Saturday Night Special” with Rick Ross and Fat Joe thanks to its piece-by-piece character portrait of an insecure gangster.

On that note, LL Cool J’s decades of lived experience make these topics much more nuanced than his past material. However, they are still retreads at the end of the day. One of THE FORCE‘s biggest flaws is its sense of repetition to varying degrees, whether it’s a relatively mid-tempo journey for most of the LP or its recycled themes or flows. Even though the production is always quality and does bring some variety to the table (see the resuscitated and warped ’80s drum machine worship on “Post Modern”), tracks like “Runnit Back” don’t revisit the themes of wealth and competition in notably fresh ways. But all in all, these are minimal missteps across this album’s runtime. The quality standard is consistent, even if the ceiling isn’t the highest among “old-school” hip-hop releases this year.

How Will THE FORCE Live On?

That ceiling is lower because, well, LL COOL J is a legend. You can’t hear a classically funky cut like “Basquiat Energy” or the title track and act particularly surprised; he’s always made these gems. The deliciously jazzy keys and bass on “Passion” are beloved Q-Tip-style production, of which there are a hundred other stunning examples. But throughout THE FORCE, there are amazing and cathartic instrumental moments, killer features, and standout bars such as “King of the Jungle, but still humble at the Panther Party” on “Huey In The Chair” with Busta Rhymes. Finally, the closer “The Vow” is a very fitting end to this story. LL narrates his birth as the first GOAT MC with revolutionary rhetoric and then hands the mic over to younger MCs: Mad Squablz, J-S.A.N.D., and Don Pablito.

Furthermore, LL COOL J knows his place in the game. He has the power and knowledge to follow his own intuition and ideology regarding hip-hop and is excited about tomorrow’s rap music. It’s part of what comprises the “Frequencies of Real Creative Energy”: you have your message, you honor your traditions, and you find a way to preserve and adapt them to a new dawn. LL doesn’t come across as an old-head pining for his prime, or that of the art form. He’s leading by example, joining forces with Q-Tip to present a distilled, cohesive, and refined image of classic hip-hop that appeals to and connects with current musical standards. In that way, THE FORCE is the perfect palate cleanser for rap music in 2024. If you ever get lost while exploring the culture’s ecosystem, just come back to these roots and you’ll feel that spark again.

NBA YoungBoy Receives Sentence For Federal Gun Case

NBA YoungBoy is now heading to prison according to a new report from AllHipHop. This sentence stems from the ongoing federal gun case that was originally handed down to the prolific rapper back in Louisiana in 2020. If you remember, he was “indicted for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm not registered in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record in 2021”. This case has been going on for quite some time and it was eventually transferred over to his most recent state of residence, Utah. That happened because NBA YoungBoy took a guilty plea deal back in mid to late August.

“I, defendant, have been informed that a Felony Indictment is pending against me in the above designated case. I wish to plead guilty to the offense charged, to consent to the disposition of the case in the District of Utah in which I am present, and to waive trial in the above captioned District”. Prior to the reveal of what his prison sentence would be, there were reports saying that he could’ve faced up to 10 years. Today, is an entirely different story, though.

YB’s lawyer, Bradford Cohen, says that he’s receiving just 27 months behind bars in addition to five years of probation. That’s quite the far cry from the original predicition and there’s even a chance that stay could be shorter. “Global plea 27 months… will be out with credit time served in prob 12 months”, Cohen said. He also feels this because “the case in Utah is weak and the Federal case had all kinds of trouble”. Obviously, while going to prison is never ideal, this is as big of a win that the rapper could’ve gotten.

What are your thoughts on NBA YoungBoy getting 27 months behind bars for his federal gun case? How do you feel about him possibly being in prison for just 12 months? Diddy Loses $100 Million Judgment Against Sexual Assault Accuser

Diddy will reportedly have to pay out a $100 million default judgment to Michigan inmate Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith, who has accused the Bad Boy mogul of sexual assault during a Detroit party in 1997. Lenawee County Circuit Court Judge Anna Marie Anzalone made the ruling in court on Monday, according to the Detroit Metro Times. The update comes after Cardello-Smith filed a motion for a preliminary injunction to stop Diddy from selling his properties, including the Los Angeles mansion he recently listed for sale. Homeland Security agents had raided the property back in March.

Cardello-Smith claimed in a previous hearing that Diddy once visited him in prison in an attempt to convince him to settle the case. The Detroit Metro Times reports he showed records with Diddy’s name on the visitation list. “[Diddy] stated that he would make me an offer to end the case and what happened to me because of other things that he stated he has going on in his life that require his money right now,” he told the judge, as noted by AllHipHop. He added that Diddy said “he wants to sell everything off,” and promised to pay him $2.3 million to drop the case.

As for putting his Los Angeles home on the market, Cardello-Smith remarked: “He did it the day after I served him the suit.” He further alleged that Diddy admitted he would have a better chance of dealing with the default judgment than battling the case. “I said, ‘So you want to hide your money,” Cardello-Smith recalled, to which Diddy allegedly responded: “‘Yeah. You know how we get down.’”

Diddy is reportedly attempting to sell the mansion for $61 million. It’s located on what is known as “Billionaire’s Row,” and boats Kylie Jenner, Jimmy Iovine, and more celebrities as neighbors. He is also facing numerous other lawsuits related to sexual misconduct but has firmly denied all of the allegations. Be on the lookout for further updates on Diddy on HotNewHipHop.
