On Thursday, September 5, 2024 the Lamar family lost our beloved son, brother, father and friend. Known to the world as Rich Homie Quan, Dequantes Devontay Lamar was a proud native of the great city of Atlanta, Georgia and represented for the A as he and his music traveled across this globe. While he leaves us with an undeniable hole in our hearts, we are comforted by knowing his music and triumphant spirit lives on.

Quan’s legacy will forever be cemented as a soundtrack to our lives. And for this, we are grateful.
Celebration of life details will be shared soon. Thank you to everyone for your kind words and support at this difficult time.

Hip-hop continues to reel from Rich Homie Quan’s sudden death. While attending the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players celebration, Offset delivered a message to RHQ’s family: “I wish you guys some type of prosperity, some type of overcoming of it.”

He added, “Shoutout to Rich Homie Quan, that’s a Day 1 artist that we all came up in the same lab, same kitchen, trying to make it happen. That’s a tragic thing in hip-hop. RIP to you and bless your family.”

Rich Homie Quan, born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, is well-known among fans for his melodic trap flow and rose to fame for his catchy songs, including the number-one hits “Type of Way” and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh).” Rich Homie Quan was also a member of Rich Gang alongside Young Thug and Birdman, spawning the Rich Gang: Tha Tour Pt. 1.

In 2022, Rich Homie Quan announced a partnership with Venice Music, a cutting-edge music and technology firm created by Troy Carter and Suzy Ryoo. Under his new label Rich Homie Entertainment, which will be serviced by Venice Music, Rich Homie Quan was set to independently release music.

D’Angelo Preps New Album With A Q-Tip And Raphael Saadiq Collaboration

Raphael Saadiq, who has been a friend and collaborator of D’Angelo for nearly three decades, says the legendary singer is gearing up for the release of a new album. Speaking with the Rolling Stone Music Now podcast, he explained that D’Angelo is in a “good space” and back in the studio.

“He’s excited. He’s like, ‘You gotta play bass. I’ve got this track. I’m telling you, you got to get on it. It got your name all over it.’ He’s working on six pieces right now and he seems super excited,” Saadiq said, as caught by HipHopDX. He added that one of the songs he’s crafting stems from their time together working with Q-Tip as the supergroup, Lynwood Rose. “I think it’s going to be a record on D’Angelo’s new album when it comes out, a record that we all did together,” he added. “Lynwood Rose lives. I’m playing bass, D’s playing, me and D is singing backgrounds. It’s funky as hell, too, it’s like, D is a bad boy. … It’s aged well. Good music ages well.”

A new project from D’Angelo would be his first since 2014’s Black Messiah, and only his second since 2000’s Voodoo. He told Rolling Stone after the release of his latest effort to expect more music from him, but unfortunately for fans, that hasn’t yet come to fruition. He’s only released one song of his own in the time since, “Unshaken,” which he made for the soundtrack to the 2018 video game Red Dead Redemption 2. He has done a couple of collaborations, however, the most recent of which came from JAY-Z for “I Want You Forever.”

The concept album was mostly well-received by listeners, and he has even more on the way. Earlier this week, he dropped a trailer for the deluxe edition of the project, labeled the Expanded Mourner’s Edition.

It’s expected to include various bonus tracks, and one of them is rumored to feature production by The Alchemist, who appeared in the teaser. Eminem’s new and upcoming work isn’t the only material gaining recognition these days, however. According to Billboard, he’s celebrating yet another exciting milestone.

The outlet reports that his 2005 best-of compilation, Curtain Call: The Hits, has spent over 700 weeks on the Billboard 200. He hit the 700 mark last week, moving roughly 8,000 album equivalent units. The album is only the sixth in history to do so, and the first rap album ever. Pink Floyd, Bob Marley, Journey, Metallica, and Creedence Clearwater Revival have reached the milestone in the past.

HipHopDX attributes the compilation’s success to a loophole, as Billboard‘s rules state that a song appearing on more than one album has to be assigned to one. This is determined by whichever album sells the most that week. Since the compilation contains several of Em’s early hits, they’re often attributed to it, adding to its overall tally. Pharrell Williams Directly Deals With PETA Protestor At Private Screening Of “Piece By Piece”

Pharrell Williams is rolling out the red carpet for his upcoming LEGO biopic, Piece By Piece. The film is going to officially hit theaters on October 11, meaning we are one month away on the dot. To build some extra anticipation for the animated motion picture, the multi-hyphenate held a private screening for it. However, as Pharrell Williams was winding things down, a PETA protestor briefly interrupted the event, according to Uproxx. The woman actually was able to get onto the stage, sign and all. Speaking of which, the message was, “Pharrell: Stop Killing Animals For Fashion”. Most likely, this relates to his involvement with the French luxury apparel brand, Louis Vuitton.

He does hold a high position with the iconic company, as he is the Men’s Creative Director. Throughout the PETA supporter’s appearance both on the stage and off it, she repeatedly said, “Stop torturing animals!”. In a scenario like this, there’s high probability that a lot of people would escalate the situation further by yelling and scolding her. But Pharrell was extremely mature and graceful during the entire face-to-face interaction. “I know, you’re right”, and “I’m working on it”, he replied in a cool manner.

He even said “God bless you” and encouraged the audience to repeat that and clap for the woman. Eventually, she was taken away by security and afterwards, Pharrell decided to address the now elephant in the room. “Let me address that. You know, Rome wasn’t made in a day, and sometimes when you have plans to change things and situations, you have to get in a position of power and of influence, where you can change people’s minds progression”, he began. “That’s not necessarily the way to do it, and sitting in my position, when I have conversations on behalf of organizations like that, unbeknownst to them, they come out here and do themselves a disservice”. He then concluded with, “That’s okay: When that change comes, everybody in this room, will remember that I told you we’re actually working on that, and if she would have just asked me, I would have told her. But instead, she wanted to repeat herself”.

The crowd the clapped for how the multi-talent handled everything. However, PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman was not as forgiving. She issued a statement following this protest, saying, “We would be happy to stop disrupting Pharrell’s appearances but despite a lot of lip service, he’s yet to ditch fur and exotic skins. Pharrell can decide in a heartbeat, today, to use his power for good and stop being complicit in cruelty — it’s quite easy to be kind”. Shannon Sharpe is currently the most talked about man on social media right now after a livestream that went down on his Instagram account. Just moments ago, Sharpe went live on IG and thousands of fans tuned in thinking that he had something to say. Instead, all you heard were the moans of a woman, while the phone remained face-up on what appeared to be a nightstand. Nothing could be seen in the video, however, the audio was clear as day and it was easy to understand what was happening.

Eventually, clips of the Instagram livestream began circulating on Twitter. The video lasted for about five minutes before it eventually got turned off. Overall, this is anyone’s worst nightmare. Something similar happened to Denver Nuggets star Jamal Murray back in the day. However, Sharpe is not taking responsibility for what went down. Instead, he took to his Instagram story moments after the video went up. It was here where he blamed the live stream on a hacker.

It will be interesting to see how the internet reacts to that explanation. Whenever people blame things on a hacker, there is usually some sort of skepticism.
