Larry June Provides Immaculate Vibes On New Album “Doing It For Me”
Larry June is the most relaxed man in hip-hop. He’s inherited the crown from Curren$y, who shares June’s affinity for smoked-out Alchemist production. The thing that distinguishes June, though, is his specificity. The rapper’s verses are packed with references to the Bay Area, designer brands, and the experiences that made him who he is today. Boring topics in the wrong hands, but Larry June has an innate feel for what sounds good. Doing It for Me is a showcase for the rapper to show what he can do without having to rely on others. Like the titular “me” suggests, the album is a solo venture, with zero guest features.
“Magnum P.I.” is the perfect thesis for the album. The production is hazy and nostalgic, while Larry June waxes poetic over his teenage escapades. “Morning Calculations” is even better. Built around a hypnotic vocal sample, the song gives the rapper a chance to reflect on his rise to stardom. The unison of topics and song titles cannot be overstated here. Every track on Doing It for Me sounds like a manifestation of its title. “Stinson Beach” pushes things in a jazzy direction courtesy of flute samples and a chorus that showcases Larry June’s surprisingly decent singing voice. “Breakfast In Gold Coast” is one of the best songs the rapper has ever released. The beat, the bars, and the aesthetic details (the sounds of rain at the very end) compress the June experience into a two and a half minute masterclass. Doing It for Me is really for all of us.

Lil Pump Will Perform Kamala Harris Diss Track At The Next Trump Rally
Lil Pump is not letting up. The rapper who once went viral for being about, well, nothing, has become a political pundit. If you hear his name at all these days, it’s because he has made a withering comment about the Democratic Party. Lil Pump has been a supporter of Donald Trump for years, but his anger towards Trump’s opponent, Kamala Harris, is relatively new. The Floridian has decided to diss Harris repeatedly on Twitter. According to his latest post, though, he plans to take his aggressive political stance into the studio.
On August 8, Lil Pump made a few bold claims. One, he claimed to be performing at the next Donald Trump campaign rally. Two, he claimed to have a diss track ready, and it’s aimed at Kamala Harris and Joe Biden. That’s right. Biden may have decided not to seek reelection, but he’s unable to avoid Pump when it comes to bars. “I will be performing the Joe Biden Kamal [sic] Harris diss track at the next Trump rally,” he tweeted. A few hours later, Lil Pump doubled down on his stance by adding: “Pump for Trump.” The latter phrase is questionable at best, but we are talking about a rapper who was called “Little Pimp” the first time he attended a Trump rally.

Lil Pump Plans To Diss Kamala Harris And Joe Biden
Claiming to have a Kamala Harris and Joe Biden diss track in the stash is not the boldest thing Lil Pump has said this week. The distinction of “boldest political statement” goes to an earlier social media post. The rapper claimed he’d leave the United States if Kamala Harris wins the election. “I swear on my dad’s grave,” Lil Pump noted. “If this stupid a*s b*tch Kamala Harris wins the f*cking election. I’m moving out of America, boy. I swear on everything.” Pump’s hatred for Harris is superseded only his adoration of the Donald. Despite being clalled the wrong name in 2020, the rapper has remained a loyal supporter.
Lil Pump could not have been more excited to sing the praises of Trump during a Florida campaign rally. “I came here to say, Mr. President, I appreciate everything you’ve done for our country,” he said. “You brought the troops home and you’re doing the right thing. MAGA 20, 20, 20. Don’t forget that! Don’t forget that. And do not vote for Sleepy Joe at all.” Things didn’t go the way Lil Pump wanted, but he remains steadfast. Let’s see if his supposed Biden-Harris diss ever sees the light of day.

Bernice King Blasts Donald Trump For Comparing Himself To MLK, Jr.
Bernice King has dedicated her life to preserving her father’s legacy. Martin Luther King, Jr. is among the most respected and revered men in American history. It’s understandable, then, that Bernice King would be offended by Donald Trump’s recent comments. The Presidential nominee likened himself to MLK, Jr. during a recent speech. Not only did he evoke the activist’s name, but he bragged about drawing a much bigger crowd than he did in the 1960s. Bernice King had plenty to say on the matter on August 9.
Donald Trump’s comments are worth unpacking for context. The former President not only put himself on the same level as MLK, but he did so while discussing the January 6 insurrection. “The biggest crowd I’ve ever spoken before was that day,” he told reporters. “If you look at Martin Luther King, when he did his speech, his great speech, and you look at ours. Same real estate, same everything. Same number of people, if not, we had more.” Americans were appalled by the parallel, especially given the context of the insurrection and Dr. King’s reputation for peaceful protests. The approaches of Trump and Dr. King are, for many, diametrically opposed.

Bernice King Called Trump Out For Being A Liar
Bernice King is one of the many. She took to Twitter to fact-check Donald Trump’s statement, and make sure her father’s reputation remained ironclad. She quote tweeted the clip in which Donald Trump said he drew a bigger crowd than Martin Luther King, Jr. and posted a photo of her father. “Absolutely not true,” Bernice King tweeted. “I really wish that people would stop using my father to support fallacy.” The facts are in King’s favor. Trump claimed that he drew “more people” than Dr. King, but in reality, he only drew an estimated 53,000 people. By comparison. Dr. King’s March on Washington brought 250,000 people together in 1963. Not only was the ex-President’s statement untrue, it wasn’t even close to being true.
This is not the first time Bernice King has criticized Donald Trump. In 2018, King spoke out against the President during a public event the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta. She urged churchgoers to not be swayed by Trump’s rhetoric, or allow his views to shape the way they perceive American values. “[We] cannot allow the nations of the world to embrace the words that come from our president as a reflection of the true spirit of America,” she stated. “Our collective voice in this hour must always be louder than the one who sometimes does not reflect the legacy of my father.”

Drake Surpasses Kendrick Lamar In Monthly Spotify Listeners After Beef
Drake has had a bad summer. He lost the battle to Kendrick Lamar. He also had to sit around while Lamar’s “Not Like Us” became the biggest song in the country. It played so many places that Steph Curry got tired of hearing it. Lamar was not only winning the discourse war, though, he was winning the streaming war as well. His numbers were up during the battle, while Drake’s were noticeably down. The tables have turned, though. The 6 God is regaining his footing in a post-“Not Like Us” world, according to Spotify.
Hip Hop All Day confirmed that Drake reached a major milestone on August 9. The rapper notched 74.9 million monthly listeners on Spotify. This made him the rapper with the second-most monthly listeners on the entire platform. More importantly, though, it meant he surpassed Kendrick Lamar. K. Dot had been on a role throughout May and June. He accrued 74.7 million monthly listeners during the beef. As noted by a Billboard article, the success of Lamar’s diss songs actually boosted streams for his previous albums as well. The Compton emcee’s entire catalog was up 49% from May 3-6. Drake’s conversely, was down by 5%.

Drake Has The Second Most Monthly Listeners For A Rapper
The damage the battle did to Drake’s credibility is one thing. The damage the battle did to his streaming numbers, however, is another. Meaning, it didn’t do much damage. He’s still one of the most artists in the world, as evidenced by colossal numbers he’s doing on Spotify. Eminem is the only rapper who has more monthly listeners that Drake. Tellingly, Eminem is the only rapper who has sold more albums that Drake in terms of physical units. That being said, the 6 God has Slim Shady in the overall streams department. Em recently reached 50 billion overall streams on Spotify, which made him the second rapper to do so. Want to guess the first? You’re correct. Drake stands atop the Spotify all-time streams list with an eye popping 101 billion streams.
It gets better for Drizzy. The Toronto superstar recently broke another Spotify record. According to That Grape Juice, Drake became the first artist in history to have 17 individual songs pass one billion streams. “Jimmy Cooks,” the rapper’s number-one single from 2022, was the one that pushed it over the edge. He was previously tied for the Spotify record of 16 songs with Rihanna and Bad Bunny, but know he stands alone. And it sounds like new Drake music is right around the corner.

T-Pain Releases 3D Animation Video For “On This Hill”
Grammy Award-winning artist, producer, songwriter, entrepreneur and global cultural icon T-Pain has released a 3D-animated video for his latest single, “On This Hill.” The song about self-love and standing up for yourself, which showcases the innovative artist’s powerful vocals and dynamic voice, was animated by T-Pain himself after he recently taught himself how to use Blender 3D animation software.
“The ‘On This Hill’ performance video was a fun jam session so I decided to kick it up a notch and get a choir together to help me bring this 3D vision to life,” said the 30-year-old Tallahasseean. “It was a huge undertaking, and I faced a few technical difficulties along the way, but I was able to edit this while on tour and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.”
