Ravyn Lenae Lets The Experimentation Run Free On “Bird’s Eye”

Ravyn Lenae is showing that she’s willing to take chances on her sophomore album Bird’s Eye. This is her follow-up to her 2022 debut HYPNOS, and one that’s been led by some pretty great promotional tracks. The 25-year-old hypnotist from Chicago got the rollout started back in early May with her “Love Me Not / Love Is Blind” twofer offering up starkly different takes on R&B. One would say that it was great indication that Ravyn was working on trying new sounds. Then, about a month later, she would return with first-time collaborator Ty Dolla $ign on “Dream Girl”, a slick and dreamy cut about allowing yourself to fall for someone.

Finally, we would get “One Wish” with Childish Gambino, arguably the best and easily the most vulnerable track on the record. Here, Ravyn wrestles with her complicated relationship with her father. “Called me on my birthday / I thought you’d be on your way, oh / Candles burned down to the cake / Still not seeing your face… I can’t forgеt you / And I can’t hate you / No matter how hard I try“. On top of these, there’s still an even more vast soundscape to be had across Bird’s Eye. The closing “Days” presents a country/acoustic vibe to wind down to on the summer nights. “Candy” delivers more a smooth and wavy reggae vibe. Furthermore, we get hints of some early 2000s late 90’s R&B on “From Scratch”, especially instrumentally. Ravyn’s beats, writing, and vocals make for a more than memorable listen in the R&B genre this year.

Boosie Badazz says he was furious after seeing Lil Uzi Vert modeling in a dress for Marc Jacobs and that they look more like a “strong woman” than a man. He discussed the polarizing fashion ad during an interview with VladTV. He began by admitting that he was originally a fan of Uzi’s music, but can’t support them anymore.

“I was pissed. Before he was all doing that I was kinda f*cking with him,” Boosie began. “I just don’t agree with all his like sh*t these men be doing out here. How’s somebody ever gonna raise a strong young man when you looking like a strong young woman? All these men who need to do that, your child looking at you. One day your child might ask you, ‘Daddy, why you got on nail polish and all this stuff like Mommy.’” From there, Boosie got more passionate. “What you do follows you,” he remarked. Today in Hip-Hop History: Run-D.M.C. Dropped Their Self Titled Debut Album 41 Years Ago

On this date in 1984, the Kings from Queens released their first self-titled album on Def Jam Recordings under Rush Management.

This monumental album put Daryl McDaniels (DMC), Joseph Simmons (DJ Run), and Jason Mizell (Jam Master Jay) on the map, and launched one of the most successful careers Hip-Hop has ever seen.

With songs like “Sucker MCs,” “It’s Like That,” “Hard Times” and “Rock Box,” the record was an accurate reflection of the lives of three ambitious kids from Hollis, Queens in New York City in a time before the crack epidemic.

Simmons and McDaniels used to hang around Two-Fifths Park in Hollis in late 1980, hoping to rap for the local DJs who performed and competed there. The most popular one just happened to be Mizell, then known as “Jazzy Jase” because of his flashy wardrobe and b-boy attitude. Eventually, Simmons and McDaniels rapped in front of Mizell at the park, and the rest is history.

As a group, they soon strapped on a pair of Adidas, threw on a rope chain and topped it off with a Kangol hat. Little did they know, they were crafting a signature style, one that has stood the test of time and is widely recognized around the world.

Run-D.M.C. went on to release six more albums, including 1985’s King of Rock and 1986’s Raising Hell. Tragically, Mizell was gunned down on October 30, 2002, at his recording studio in Queens. Countless fans left Adidas sneakers, albums and flowers for the legendary DJ outside of the studio, where the murder occurred. The homicide has yet to be solved.

Run-D.M.C. was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009, making them one of only two Hip Hop acts given that honor at the time.

However, these assertions were swiftly and decisively refuted by both Dr. King’s daughter, Bernice King, and Willie Brown himself.

Trump’s remarks have sparked outrage, particularly from those directly connected to the figures he referenced. Bernice King, the daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., took to Twitter to set the record straight. In a pointed response, she wrote, “Absolutely not true. I really wish that people would stop using my father to support fallacy.” Her statement underscores the frustration many feel when historical figures like her father are misrepresented for political gain.

Willie Brown also wasted no time in addressing Trump’s claim about a supposed near-death experience in a helicopter. The former mayor dismissed the story outright, stating, “He’s dreaming.” In a follow-up, Brown described Trump as “inept” and made it clear that the two never shared such an incident. Brown also used the opportunity to praise Vice President Kamala Harris, expressing his support for her and his eagerness to see her become president.

Brown’s response adds another layer of incredulity to Trump’s claim, particularly given Brown’s straightforward dismissal of the story as pure fiction. Brown further criticized Trump, emphasizing that he would never badmouth Harris and expressing his desire to see her succeed in the highest office.

Blueface’s Four-Year Prison Sentence Leaves Jaidyn Alexis Unbothered

Yesterday (August 9), Blueface attended a court hearing, where he and his loved ones got some disappointing news. The rapper was handed a four-year prison sentence, which is far from what they had been expecting. His mother Karlissa Saffold had already been preparing to welcome him home. His manager Wack 100 predicts he’ll be out in roughly ten months. That’s if Blueface gets credit for 440 days served, and the state only makes him serve one-third of his remaining sentence.

Of course, it remains to be seen what actually plays out in this case, though the lengthy sentence has elicited big reactions nonetheless. Aside from Blueface’s parents, one person supporters have been particularly curious to hear from is Jaidyn Alexis. She has two children with the rapper, though they appear to have gone their separate ways earlier this year.

She’s kept pretty quiet since Blueface turned himself in back in January, and seemingly rekindled his bond with the mother of his third child, Chrisean Rock.
