Toronto Venue ‘History’ Cancels Yet Another TDE Artist’s Concert Date: ‘They DON’T like us’

Screen Shot 2024 07 30 at 7.53.54 PM

Looks like there’s a pattern going on in the Six. Let’s track it. Toronto fans of TDE artist SiR faced disappointment with yet another last-minute concert cancellation in their market. The soul and R&B singer announced on X – that’s the new-ish name for Twitter, yes we still have to remind ya’ll – on Tuesday morning that his show was canceled. Not too big a deal, right? That happens all the time, yea? Well, the show was scheduled just that evening at History, a concert venue in Toronto’s east end, that happens to be (reportedly) co-owned by the Six God himself, Drake. Here’s what SiR said about the cancellation:

”So sorry to my Toronto fans,” he wrote. “The show has been cancelled.” We get it. We got it. But why?

The venue is operated by Live Nation, and the concert giant did not provide a reason for the cancellation. It was quiet.

The event listing was also removed from History’s official website. Again, it’s super quiet.

So here’s where the pattern comes in … This latest cancellation follows a kind of similar incident less than two weeks ago. See, TDE rapper Schoolboy Q cancelled his show at the same venue.

Get this, the reasons behind these cancellations remain murky, but some are speculating there’s a not so subtle connection to the never-ending feud, beef, hate or whatever between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Again, we got it. We get it.

Check this out, we know Schoolboy Q and SiR are both signed to Top Dawg Entertainment, the label formerly home to Kendrick Lamar.  Emphasis on formerly. And if you recall, the dynamic trio were part of the TDE group Black Hippy, alongside Jay Rock and Ab-Soul. So feels like a connection and a pattern or are we just tripping?

“For those wondering, we sold that show out,” SiR tweeted. “It was cancelled by the venue. Not sure why. My apologies again to those that came just to see me.”

SiR said “Not sure why.” Wink, wink.

After SiR’s cancellation, Schoolboy Q commented again on X:

“SING ON THE BUS ITS OVA WIT,” to which SiR replied, “They DON’T like us,” with a laughing emoji, possibly alluding to Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us.”

Maybe they’re right. Maybe they don’t. Just sayin.

Chief Keef Claims His Account Was Hacked After Tweeting “Trump 2024”

Chief Keef is a polarizing figure. He’s considered by many to be one of the most influential rappers of the 2010s. He also has encountered legal problems for the entirety of his career. Chief Keef is unapologetic about who he is, and that’s part of why fans have continued to rock with his music. The rapper’s recent political statements, however, have rubbed those same fans the wrong way. Keef posted a photo of him standing at a podium. He tweeted “Trump 2024” alongside the photo. Bizarrely, the rapper claimed that his account was hacked mere hours later.

Chief Keef took to Instagram to alert his fans about the hack. “Twitter is hacked,” he wrote over a black background. “Management.” The timing of the hack is strange, especially given that the statement about the hack does not address what the hacker posted. It’s unclear if the “Trump 2024” tweet is being laid at the feet of the hacker, or something Chief Keef claims. This is not, however, the first time the rapper has publicly discussed Donald Trump. Following Trump’s arrest in August 2023, Chief Keef posted an edit of the former President throwing up gang signs.

Chief Keef Hyped Up Donald Trump’s Arrest Back In 2023

The rapper proceeded to praise Trump, and claim that he will do well in prison. “Nah my boy in dat b*tch bangin on dem folks,” he wrote over the photoshopped image. “I know whatever deck he on he good in the hood for sure he finna run the prison. That boy finna be eating like a MF all da Blacks finna have my boy back.” This was a far cry from the confusion Chief Keef expressed over Trump in 2018. The Windy City legend was asked what he thought about Kanye West’s endorsement of Trump, and he claimed he didn’t understand the appeal. “I am not a fan of Trump,” the rapper told Complex. “I don’t understand that connection, but Kanye does what he wants.”

Chief Keef is close with another pro-Trump rapper, Sexyy Red. Red explained her political stance during a recent appearance on the podcast This Weekend. “I like Trump,” she stated. “Yeah, they support him in the hood. We need him back because, baby, them checks. Them stimulus checks. Trump, we miss you.” Chief Keef has not officially gone on record as being a Trump supporter prior to his recent tweet. Given the claim that his account was hacked, though, it remains to be seen whether the tweet came from the rapper himself. We will have to wait and see what Keef has to say.

Kanye Finally Finds Buyer For Unfinished Malibu Mansion Under Construction

Screen Shot 2024 07 30 at 7.17.31 PM

Kanye West has finally found a buyer for his Malibu mansion, which had been sitting unfinished, gutted and pretty much an eye sore as far as beachfront properties go. The property entered escrow last Thursday, according to online records. So, yea, somebody is about to cut the check.

West had been trying to sell the estate for some time, and in April, he slashed $14 million off the original $53 million asking price from January, bringing it down to $39 million. That’s about 25%. Think he is taking a loss? Quite possibly.

The final sale price remains undisclosed – do don’t ask.

ICYMI, the mansion was stripped down as part of a renovation project that Kanye never completed. Like, eh, $50 million dollar crib. Let’s strip it down to the studs and just move onto something else. Gotta love it. Not to mention, the architect is like award winning. Ye left it in a state that requires significant repairs. The property lacks walls and feels nearly uninhabitable, making it a major fixer-upper for the new owner, assuming escrow closes successfully. Who ever is taking it on has a project on their hands.

Get this, Kanye enlisted the help of “Selling Sunset” star Jason Oppenheim to market the property. Oppenheim promoted the mansion as a blank canvas, which seemed to appeal to the buyer. Oh, Ye thought it was a canvas too. Let’s see how that works out.

Any who, the 4,000-square-foot estate includes 4 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, outdoor decks, and expansive views of the Pacific Ocean. Beautiful conceptually. Time will tell what it actually looks like when it’s all said and done.

Quavo Shouts Out Kamala Harris For ‘Standing On Business’ When It Comes To Ending Gun Violence During His Atlanta Rally Speech

Today (July 30), Vice President Kamala Harris brought her 2024 campaign trail down to the Dirty South. During the Atlanta, Georgia stop at the Georgia State Convocation Center, she had a few notable entertainers popped and show their support (fitting as it is one of the country’s musical hubs).

In between her performance set, Megan Thee Stallion verbalized her endorsement for the presidential hopeful. But at the podium, Quavo delivered an equally fiery speech. The “Mink” rapper revealed that his support for Harris boils down to her stance on ending gun violence, a heartbreaking issue that has directly impacted him.

In October 2022, Quavo’s nephew and longtime collaborator, Takeoff (of Migos & Unc And Phew) was tragically gunned down in Houston, Texas.

Watch Quavo’s speech video from Kamala Harris’ Atlanta rally and read the transcript below.

If y’all don’t know me, I got by the name of Quavo. Born and raised in the North side of Atlanta, the home of the Migos. This city has always been home to me. From playing in the streets to, and you know, nurturing me to teaching me how to be the man that I am standing before you today. So, I mean one of the issues that I care about is resolving the gun violence. You can’t understand the struggles of gun violence if you not in the field or the heart of it. So, one thing I learned about working with Vice President Harris is she always stand on business.

From inviting me to the White House last year to discuss these solutions, to passing the biggest gun safety laws today. So, it’s only right in the birthplace of the culture, it’s also the same place where we launched the first African-American woman to run for president. Yeah, we changing the culture again. So, if you never voted before make sure that you get out and vote right now because this the real one. And in the words of my brother Takeoff, let me get a Kamala.

Kanye West Finally Sells Malibu Mansion After Slashing Price By $14 Million

Kanye West’s reputation has made a 180. The artist once hailed for his vision and perfectionism has become infamous for abandoning projects. The rapper has announced, then shelved, a dozen albums in the last decade. A similarly scattered thought process was applied to the renovation of West’s home in Malibu. The rapper reportedly gutted the house with the intention of remodeling it. Instead, he made it significantly less valuable by the time he found a buyer.

Kanye West found said buyer on July 25. According to TMZ, the rapper’s Malibu estate went into Escrow following a lengthy stint on the market. He enlisted the help of Selling Sunsets realtor Jason Oppenheim, and evidently, the reality star came through. Oppenheim pitched the estate as an “open canvas” for an adventurous homeowner to remodel to their liking. It’s an ironic pitch, given that is exactly what Kanye West was going for when he gutted it. The rapper purchased his Malibu home in December 2021. He spent over $57 million on the estate, which spans 4,000 square feet and includes four bed rooms and five bathrooms.

Kanye West Bought The Mansion For $57 Million In 2021

Unfortunately, Kanye West was not able to make his money back. He reportedly chopped $14 million off the initial asking price, due to the fact that the estate is currently unlivable. TMZ claims that most of the rooms in the mansion don’t even have walls. While the readjusted price was $39 million, the outlet says that the price the buyer agreed to pay for West’s estate is still unknown. It’s possible the rapper had to settle for a price even lower than his slashed offer.

Kanye West’s decision to break down and gut his Malibu home was detailed in a New Yorker profile in June. The rapper enlisted the help of various architects and designers to remodel the house to his exact specifications. It did not go according to plan. Tony Saxon, the man who spearheaded West’s renovation project, told the outlet that he effectively ruined a piece of art. “It’s funny,” he explained. “And not funny, in a way, to say, ‘I’m the man who single-handedly destroyed this architectural masterpiece.’ But I pretty much did… It’s always an adventure.” Here’s hoping the next owner has more luck that Mr. West.

Huh? Team USA Basketball Takes ‘L’ To Serbia … In 3×3 Competition

Screen Shot 2024 07 30 at 6.49.04 PM

Ya’ll remember Jimmer Fredette? College star. A bit in the vein of JJ Redick. Great shooter but unlike the new Lakers coach, he didn’t have the greatest NBA career. Played a few years with the Shangai Sharks, a bit of a meme when it comes to an NBA player who doesn’t have the best outing in the playoffs… Anyway, we’re getting off track, ha! So Jimmer plays on Team USA’s 3×3 team and what the American basketball community was calling a comeback tour, hit a rough patch as his squad took the ‘L’ to Serbia. Look, the Serbians can HOOP! It’s proven. That’s a real thing and a lot of their top players go to the Association but Team USA is still, well, Team USA, right? Wrong.

On the opening day of men’s 3×3 basketball group play Fredette managed only four points on five shots, as Serbia dominated with a 22-14 victory on Tuesday night. Serbia immediately established themselves as the gold medal favorites.

Onto the game recap. The momentum shifted with 4:30 remaining, when the U.S. was still within reach. A controversial unsportsmanlike foul was called on Canyon Barry after he inadvertently elbowed Serbian defender Mihailo Vasic while making a spin move in the paint. Although Vasic hit only one of the two free throws, Serbia retained possession and extended their lead to 15-11 with a one-point shot from Marko Brankovic. However, as Serbia extended their lead, Fredette found it difficult to get open and missed a crucial wide-open layup when the U.S. was down 17-12. The U.S. struggled to catch up and fell further behind before Strahinja Stojacic sealed the game with a two-point shot from behind the arc.

Here’s Fredette’s take on things:

“They just did a better job than us of executing their game plan,” he admitted.

“We got to that foul count really early. Once you get to that foul count early, they kept getting some easy baskets. Then they called a couple fouls where they were able to get to the free throw line and get the ball back.”

Get this, Fredette, joined the 3×3 team after being approached by USA Basketball’s Fran Fraschilla two years ago, saw the Olympics as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. “As soon as I heard ‘Olympics,’ I was like, ‘I’m all in,’” he said earlier this summer. He had a point and we support that decision. We just need Jimmer to BALL OUT!

This matchup was an early test, featuring the top two teams in the world men’s 3×3 rankings. Serbia and the U.S. had previously clashed in the 2023 World Cup final, where Serbia narrowly edged out the U.S. 21-19. So this is a trend, a ha, we see ya’ll.

Despite getting kinda destroyed, Fredette remained optimistic about Team USA’s prospects, noting, “We have a long way to go.” With six more pool play games remaining before the knockout stages, there’s ample opportunity for redemption. The top two teams from the eight-team pool will advance to the semifinals, with the next four entering the play-in games.

Team USA plays Poland on Wednesday night. Listen, they better you know what or we will have a lot of fun in the next recap. Good luck, Team USA!

LL Cool J Annoyed With Rappers Who Only Make Music About Money Says “The Wallet Can’t Un-Corny You.”

image

Rap icon, LL Cool J, recently voiced his frustration with the current trend of rappers focusing solely on bread in their music. Basically thinks all that repetitive money talk is getting old, tired and outright whack. Maybe we’re embellishing a bit but you get the gist.

It all went down during an interview with Baller Alert, where the “Around the Way Girl” rapper turned NCIS actor went in on his peers for their narrow lyrical content, saying:

”When a rapper comes out, and he’s talking that money talk, you love it. But 12 years later, he’s still talking that money talk, and now you’re looking at him like, ‘Dude, do you have anything else to talk about?’”

LL Cool J is no spring chicken who’s been in a many GOAT conversations so he has the right to make his points on any and all things Hip Hop. At 56, he emphasized the importance of meaningful lyrics, citing Bob Marley as an example:

”He talked about something. He had something to say. And guess what? You don’t care what Bob Marley had in the bank. Because that’s not the metric for success. It’s not the metric for cultural success. Bob Marley did not have to be rich. He was rich in what he did and what he created and what he put in the world. That s**t matters,” he went on to explain.

LL added, “The wallet can’t un-corny you.” Boom, that part.

If you need a history lesson, LL Cool J, born James Todd Smith, achieved commercial success with his debut single “I Need A Beat” in 1984. He continued to release hits like “I Need Love,” “I’m Bad,” and “Mama Said Knock You Out.”

ICYMI, in 2021, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his significant contributions to music. We listed a few. Basically, he’s a star, and like we said, in the GOAT conversation for a multitude of reasons and if he thinks a lot of these so called rappers are corny then maybe he has a point.
