Happy Heavenly Born Day to ‘The Overweight Lover’ Heavy D!
On this day in Hip Hop history, “The Overweight Lover” Heavy D was born in Mandeville, Jamaica, in 1967. If he were alive today, he’d be 56 years old.
Heavy D, born Dwight Errington Myers, moved to Mount Vernon, New York, in the late 1970s. In the mid-1980s, Heavy D, DJ Eddie F, and dancers T-Roy and G-Wiz signed with Uptown Records and began their journey to fame and adoration as Heavy D & The Boyz. The group’s debut Living Large was released in 1987 and was a marginal success selling 300,000 copies.
The group began to rise in popularity, helping Heavy D to become a pop sensation. The success of the group’s second and third albums, Big Tyme and Peaceful Journey, allowed Heavy D to collaborate with artists like Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, B.B. King, and more. Through the start of the 1990s, Heavy D began making more and more appearances in music videos and on TV, and in films.
In the mid-1990s, Heavy D became the first rapper to run a record label when he became president of Uptown Records. Before becoming president, Heavy D was instrumental in hiring Sean Combs as an intern. He also convinced Andre Harrel to sign Jodeci. As president, Heavy D worked with and developed the boy band Soul for Real and was the executive producer and principal writer for the majority of their debut album. His success as an executive led to him becoming senior vice president of Universal Music.
Heavy D passed away on November 8, 2011, from complications caused by a blood clot in his leg. His final performance at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards was his first televised performance in 15 years. Heavy D’s legacy will live on forever in the work he created and the mark he left on the Hip Hop industry as a whole.

Drake and Sexyy Red are back at it again. The controversial “two bad b****es” are furthering their chemistry and relationship on a new cut from In Sexyy We Trust. This a follow-up mixtape to the St. Louis native’s 2023 breakthrough, Hood Hottest Princess. It comes at an awkward time for each artist, as she has been tied into some disses from the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef. But Red has not let those distractions get to her, as she is arguably at the peak of her powers.
“Get It Sexyy” has quickly become an anthem for this year and the number of features she has provided, especially for Chief Keef, have been a big deal. Now, she can “U My Everything” to that growing list of accomplishments. She managed to get Drake first before anyone else could since the beef, as he seems to be ready to work on new endeavors. These two have created some interesting tracks together, to say the say the least. But this one may take the cake.

Listen To “U My Everything” By Sexyy Red & Drake
Both play into the absurdity of the record, with Sexyy Red purposefully singing poorly at the start. It is quite hilarious, and it makes a callback to the Rolling Loud performance from this year. Then, there’s Drake who plays into the “BBL DRIZZY” accusations halfway through his verse. “Me and the surgeon got history I changed a lot of girls’ lives for real / They need a new body, they hittin’ me, ayy / BBL Drizzy, they want a new body, they ask me for it.” The wild part about this is when these bars drop, the Tay Keith beat switches up to the Metro Boomin diss instrumental “BBL DRIZZY BPM 150.mp3.” It certainly a petty thing for him to do, but it is Drizzy’s MO.

Kid Cudi Posts From His Hospital Bed After Second Surgery On His Broken Foot
Kid Cudi found himself in a scary situation just last month during a performance at Coachella. Overall, fans were excited to see Cudi in action especially since he was called in for a special second weekend performance. However, that excitement eventually became concern as Cudi injured himself. While jumping off the stage to go interact with fans, Cudi landed in an awkward manner and hurt his foot. He was subsequently taken to the hospital where it was revealed that he had a broken foot.
Cudi eventually had surgery on this foot and since that time, he has been looking to recover as quickly as possible in time for his tour. Well as it turns out, his foot needed a bit more work done on it for such a recovery to take place. While taking to Instagram this week, Cudi revealed that he went through a second surgery on his foot. In the post below, you can see Cudi laid up in his hospital bed, where he appeared to be in good spirits.

Kid Cudi On The Mend
“Just finished my 2nd surgery,” Cudi wrote. “It was a success. Feelin goood man!! Send me all ur love, I could really use it.” For now, it remains to be seen when Cudi will be able to perform at 100 percent again. If anything, this is all a cautionary tale that performing is no joke. It takes a serious toll on your body, and you need to take care of yourself, otherwise things like this can happen to you. We wish Cudi a quick recovery moving forward.

Diddy Accused Of Forcing Woman To Have Sex With Kim Porter In New Sexual Assault Lawsuit
Diddy received yet another sexual assault lawsuit amid his current scandal over abuse and sex trafficking claims, among other alleged crimes. Moreover, this one accuses him of forcing a woman to have sex with his then-partner Kim Porter, who has since passed. The alleged victim’s name is April Lampros, and filed suit in New York on Thursday (May 23) for battery, sexual assault, inflicting emotional distress, and gender-motivated violence. Lampros claimed that Sean Combs assaulted her four times, including the supposed Kim Porter incident during which she was allegedly forced to take ecstasy. She claims to have first met him in 1994 as a fashion student, and also claimed that he recorded their sexual acts and showed them to others without her consent.
Furthermore, Lampros alleged that the first of these incidents occurred in 1995 and that Diddy pressured her to drink alcohol, which led to “uneasy” feelings. Supposedly, she passed out in a hotel room, and that’s when he allegedly sexually assaulted her. Months later, the suit alleges, the Bad Boy mogul sent Lampros multiple gifts and successfully offered to discuss business opportunities with him. But she claims that he assaulted her again later that year in a parking garage by forcing her to her knees to perform oral sex on him.

Also, Lampros alleges that she tried to cut ties with Diddy after that alleged assault, and that he threatened to physically hurt her and blacklist her from the fashion world. The third incident, the lawsuit claims, happened in 1996, when he allegedly forced Lampros and Kim Porter to take ecstasy and have sex with each other. According to the alleged victim, the New York native told her that she “had no control over the situation as he could make her lose her job.” The suit further claims that he masturbated while they engaged in the sexual act, and that he sexually assaulted Lampros afterwards.
In addition, she claims that Diddy and Kim Porter led to Lampros’ firing from a bar after they saw her working there. While she alleges that her relationship with him ended by 1998, she also claimed that they ran into each other two years later, after which he incessantly called her phone to say that he missed her. They apparently met at her apartment with one of the music executive’s bodyguards, and Puff allegedly kissed Lampros and touched her without her permission before she made him leave. Along with several photos of them together in the suit, this is what she said about their relationship. “I’m confident that justice will prevail and the veil will be removed so no other woman will have to endure what I did.” Lampros filed the seventh sexual assault lawsuit in six months against Combs, and the second this week.

Sexyy Red Masterfully Trolls Fan Who Asked Her If She Slept With Drake For A Feature
Sexyy Red and Drake have become a dynamic duo as of late. In fact, they just teamed up yet again for a new song off of the former’s new EP In Sexyy We Trust. The song is called “U MY EVERYTHING” and as it turns out, the song samples “BBL Drizzy.” Overall, this was an interesting move from Drake. After all, “BBL Drizzy” was meant to make fun of him. However, now, the beat and the song itself belong to Drizzy and Sexyy Red. It’s a nightmare for Metro Boomin, although Drake’s latest chess move is still being debated.
As we reported, fans actually aren’t all that impressed with the move. Some have been stating this was an incredibly weak move by Drake that just proves everything Kendrick said to be true. However, there are plenty of fans out there who are happy with the performance. Sexyy Red and Drake have a history of making good songs together and “U MY EVERYTHING” is proving to be yet another example of this. However, some fans are curious as to how Sexyy keeps getting Drake features. In fact, on IG, one person asked Sexyy if she slept with Drake for the feature.

Sexyy Red Responds
Sexyy masterfully trolled the fan by simply responding “yes.” Whether or not this was sarcastic doesn’t actually matter. What matters is the fact that now the public is going to be second guessing everything about this duo. Sexyy and Drake have proven over the years to be quite shameless, which makes it all that much funnier. Whether or not the internet takes any of this serious, still remains to be seen.

Celebration 2024: Prince Fans to Gather for 40th Anniversary of ‘Purple Rain’
The annual gathering of Prince fans, known as Celebration, is returning to Paisley Park and various venues throughout Minneapolis from June 20-24, 2024. This year’s event coincides with the 40th anniversary of Purple Rain and will feature themed programming throughout the weekend.
In partnership with First Avenue, Paisley Park will present The Revolution—Wendy, Lisa, Bobby Z, Brownmark, and Dr. Fink—performing in honor of the Purple Rain milestone. These historic concerts will take place at the legendary First Avenue on Friday, June 21, and Saturday, June 22. Morris Day, New Power Generation, and many more artists are also set to perform during the festivities.
“We are excited to have the Revolution return to Minneapolis to celebrate Prince and the 40th Anniversary of Purple Rain! Along with Morris Day, we will celebrate Prince and his iconic history! Join us and Let’s Go Crazy!,” said Bobby Z, Drummer of The Revolution.
L Londell McMillan added, “We continue to celebrate the enduring legacy of one of the greatest works ever created, Purple Rain, 40 years later. Celebration 2024 marks the beginning of a year-long series of events honoring Prince and his magnum opus.”
The weekend will be packed with activities, including an all-day block party in downtown Minneapolis on Saturday, June 22. Fans can also look forward to conversations and themed panels, DJ dance parties, screenings of HD films from the Purple Rain era, and additional surprises. Continuing Prince’s legacy of nurturing new talent, the event will feature New Artist Showcases spotlighting emerging artists.
VIP ticket holders will enjoy special experiences such as a VIP boat cruise on Lake Minnetonka, exclusive tours of new exhibits, VIP lounge access, and more.
