Sean Kingston’s Mother’s Past Fraud History Revealed

Last week, rapper Sean Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, found themselves in legal trouble after Kingston’s rented Miami mansion was raided by local sheriffs. The raid came following accusations that Kingston scammed an electronics store out of a high-end entertainment system.

Kingston, whose real name is Kisean Anderson, is currently being held without bond in California as he awaits extradition. Meanwhile, his mother appeared in court, where her past fraud convictions significantly influenced her bond amount.

According to CBS News, Turner’s bond was set at an exorbitant $160,000 due to her previous criminal record. The judge read off the eight fraud and theft charges against her during her bond court hearing. Prosecutor Eric Linder highlighted her history, stating, “This is not Ms. Turner’s first time with this type of conduct. She has a 2005 federal conviction for bank fraud where she was sentenced to 16 months in federal prison.”

In her defense, Turner’s attorney, Sam Stark, argued for a more lenient bond, emphasizing that her charges were non-violent. “There are no violent priors, this case is not violent in nature, she doesn’t pose a threat to the community,” Stark contended. Despite these arguments, the judge maintained the high bond amount and stipulated that Turner’s attorney must prove the bond money is from a legitimate source.

Kingston’s troubles began when he allegedly failed to complete payments to VER Entertainment for a $150,000 entertainment system, which included a massive 232-inch television. The complaint states that Kingston persuaded the company to accept a lower down payment and credit towards the purchase by promising to produce promotional videos featuring Justin Bieber. However, these videos were never produced, leading to the company’s legal action.

In a dramatic scene described by Kingston’s attorney, Rosenblatt, the arrest was conducted with significant force. “You would think Osama bin Laden was there with all the force they used—long guns, SWAT teams, masks, and everything else. It was crazy! Certainly overreacted,” he said.

Rosenblatt also mentioned their intention to bring Kingston back voluntarily before he was apprehended. “We wanted to bring them back as soon as possible so he could self-surrender, but they grabbed them before we could do that,” Rosenblatt explained. “And he’s going to waive extradition.”

As Kingston awaits extradition from San Bernardino, California, his legal team prepares for what could be a lengthy legal battle. Meanwhile, Turner’s case moves forward in Florida, with her bond set and conditions laid out by the court.

Busta Rhymes Returns To Acting With Role In “Naked Gun” Reboot

Busta Rhymes has presence. It was evident from his breakout performance on the Tribe Called Quest posse cut, “Scenario.” It was heightened by the memorable music videos the rapper put out in the mid 1990s, and it culminated with him making the leap to the big screen around the same time. Busta turned in impressive performances in films like Higher Learning and Shaft, which is what makes his return to the big screen such an exciting prospect.

Busta Rhymes has been cast in the upcoming remake of the 1988 comedy classic The Naked Gun. His role has not yet been disclosed, but he will be acting alongside a star-studded cast of veterans. Liam Neeson, Pamela Anderson and Paul Walter Hauser have already signed on to headline the remake alongside character actors CCH Pounder and Danny Huston.

The Naked Gun will mark Busta’s first film in nearly a decade. The last time he was seen onscreen was 2016’s King of the Dancehall, which was a musical drama directed by Nick Cannon. Since then, Busta has been relegated to talk show appearances and one-off cameos playing himself in shows like Master of None and Fresh Off the Boat. The rapper discussed the enjoyment he gets from acting during a 2000 interview with The Oklahoman.

“Acting is a lot less wear and tear,” he noted. “You get the chance to bounce around and be a thousand different people without it being a problem. With music, most of the time the market and the consumer is stubborn. They don’t want you to change too dramatically from what they know and love you for. You’ve got to feed them very carefully new or different things so that they can appreciate and adjust gradually.”

The actor also noted that working with stars like Samuel L. Jackson and Sean Connery helped to hone his craft. “Not only do you respect your elders but you respect those you learn from,” he explained. “I’m there to learn. I ain’t getting opportunities to be around Sean Connerys all my life.” The Naked Gun is set for release on July 18, 2025.

Common Tributes J Dilla And Kanye West On “Be” Anniversary

Be will always have a special place in the heart of Common fans. It’s the album that brought him back after the critical and commercial misfire that was Electric Circus. It’s regularly cited as one of the best rap albums of the 2000s. Be is such a good album that Common used the same exact formula to make Finding Forever two years later. Still, nothing has quite managed to recapture the magic. The longevity and the legacy of Be is what led Common to reflect on the album for its 19th anniversary.

The rapper took to Instagram on May 26 to pen a reflection on the album. “I was reminded that yesterday was the 19th anniversary for Be,” he noted. “Be changed my life and it’s amazing how many people come to me young and old who tell me they were inspired by that album. Give Thanks To The Most High.” The rapper also made a point of shouting out his main collaborators on the album: Kanye West and the late, great J Dilla. “How grateful I am to Ye and J Dilla,” he added. “All the artists and musicians who created on that album.”

Kanye West and Dilla deserve the praise. The former produced nine of the 11 songs on the album, and the latter produced the remaining two. Com originally planned to have West and J Dilla split the songs on the album, but Dilla’s failing health made it nearly impossible. Com had worked with Dilla on Like Water for Chocolate, and despite the producer’s passing in 2006, would continue to rap over his instrumentals on subsequent albums.

Common had contributed a guest verse on West’s debut album, The College Dropout, but it was during the making of Be that the two men became close friends. “It was the first time Kanye and I hooked up on an album,” he told Vibe Magazine in 2013. “I remember the times were special because we were both excited to work with each other, enthused and inspired. It was the first time I did an album that was instantly labeled a classic.”

Common also asserted that West and J Dilla had respect for each other as producers. “Dilla had a lot of love for Ye. And Ye had love for Dilla,” he told Hot 97 in January. “It was great to see somebody who was as great as Ye just be like, ‘Dilla gave me these joints!’”

21 Savage Shocks Fans By Bringing Out Drake At His Toronto Show

Drake sightings are big deals these days. The rapper is still reeling from his loss in the Kendrick Lamar battle. The residual effect of the battle is evident in his music, as his last three singles have been flooded with dislikes on YouTube. Nevertheless, the bond between the 6 God and 21 Savage remains strong. The latter performed in Toronto on May 27, and he made good on the underlying hopes of every Her Loss fan by bringing Drake onstage to perform a couple of their joint hits.

Footage from the concert was posted on Instagram by DJ Akademiks. Drake and 21 Savage can be seen hyping up the crowd before jumping into a rendition of their number one single, “Rich Flex.” Drake might have lost the battle to Kendrick, but he still managed to rally the crowd and get them to sing along to the iconic opening lines of the song. The chemistry between Drake and Savage is strong as ever. The latter has actually been one of Drake’s few supporters throughout the 2024 rap wars.

21 Savage And Drake Performed “Rich Flex” Together

On May 12, the rapper hopped on Instagram Live to discuss the tension between Drizzy and Metro Boomin. As far as he was concerned, the two artists were going to eventually set their differences aside. “Don’t keep coming on my motherf*cin’ Live talkin’ about no motherf*ckin’ beef,” he told viewers. “Metro my brother and Drake my brother. They gonna figure that sh*t out eventually.”

This measured response took a turn on May 26, though. 21 Savage kicked Metro Boomin off his IG Live after the producer called him “OVO Savage” in the comments. 21 Savage then clapped back at Metro by quoting Drake’s now iconic “Push Ups” line: “Metro shut your h*e a*s up and make some drums n**ga.” He also got in a few digs of his own. “Oh, you was talking sh*t, b*tch,” he added. “Get off my Live. I’m finna block this n**ga.”

This is not the first time Drake has surprised fans at a 2024 show. On May 1, the 6 God popped up at Nicki Minaj’s Toronto concert to perform their latest single together, “Needle.” He showed Nicki love before telling the crowd that they he had to get back to work aka battling with K. Dot.

The Return of the Old

Continuing on. I’d like to see how it looks when we do a pull-quote from whatever interview we are talking about. Something to engage the viewers. Welcome back. NAV Teases New Pharrell Collaboration After Beefing With Drake

NAV never leaves the studio. It seems that way, at least. The Canadian rapper has dropped four projects in the last four years, and he’s already announced two more to come in 2024. He plans on dropping the mixtape Nav2, as well as the studio album On My Way 2 Rexdale. The production on NAV’s projects has consistently been a highlight, affirming the rapper’s ear for good beats and collaborators. This is what makes his latest linkup impressive, if not altogether surprising. The Canadian rapper posted photos on his Instagram of him alongside Pharrell Williams.

NAV and Pharrell posed for photos at the Louis Vuitton office in Paris, France. The two men enjoyed the Louis products in stock, but the most exciting aspect of the post was that NAV and Pharrell appeared to be working on music as well. One photo sees Pharrell playing a keyboard at a desk, while NAV sits next to him. The latter didn’t provide any context in the form of a caption, but it’s safe to assume that he has plans for a collab with Skateboard P. This would be the first time the artists appear on the same song.

NAV And Pharrell Linked Up At Louis Vuitton Offices

The timing of the NAV and Pharrell photos is worth taking into consideration. Both men played a role in the recent battle between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, even if they weren’t putting out diss tracks of their own. NAV unfollowed Drake on Instagram in the midst of the battle, which led to Drake using lyrics from the NAV song “Turks” to troll him. Some fans theorize that the Drake line “head to Delilah with all of my ice” from “Family Matters” was also a dig at his fellow Canadian. Pharrell, meanwhile, has had tension with Drake for over a decade.

Kendrick Lamar criticized Drake’s beef with Pharrell on the song “Euphoria” and announced his plan to inherit it. Drake fired back on the aforementioned “Family Matters,” telling Lamar to come get Pharrell’s “legacy” out of his house. The “legacy” in question is jewelry designed and owned by P prior to Drake purchasing it. NAV and Pharrell have very little in common as musicians (outside of working with The Weeknd), but the shared enemy gives their prospective collaboration an interesting additional layer.
