JID And Smino Are The Perfect Match On Their ‘Luv Is 4ever Tour’

It’s really hard not to gush about how proud I am of JID and Smino after seeing them completely pack out the Hollywood Palladium two nights in a row for their joint Luv Is 4ever Tour. Four years ago, I was recapping JID’s tour for DiCaprio 2, complimenting him on the creative use of cardboard standees onstage. Tuesday night (January 31), the 32-year-old Atlanta native showed command of a stage and a crowd four times that size, with little aid at all.

Likewise, catching Smino at The Fonda that same year, just a couple of months later, I noted the contrast between the smooth St. Louisan and his peers. His throwback energy really pulled a resonant string in my elder millennial heart, bringing me back to a time when a fresh triple-XL white tee was all you needed to feel fly.

This time, as I took in the size of the capacity crowd from the balcony — a vantage point for which my knees were indescribably grateful — I was awed by the enthusiasm of the concertgoers. Sure, both rappers have picked up a wealth of new fans mainly through their efforts at similarly packed (and growing) festival sets, but their audiences aren’t really primarily composed of teens anymore, either.

So to see the delight with which these late-20-somethings bounced and rocked and waved and danced and moshed was heartening. I’ve been to a lot of shows, and I can tell you, as crowds get older (especially in LA, where folks are notoriously way too cool to dance), their ardor for physical reactions to artists’ onstage movements starts to fall precipitously.

All this is a testament to the performance prowess of the co-headliners, who both balanced their hour-long sets with selections from their respective 2022 albums, The 4ever Story and Luv 4 Rent, as well as fan favorites from across their catalogs. Even more impressive was the fact that plenty of the newer material elicited as exuberant a response from the audience as the established hits.

Smino’s set, which closed the show, was especially striking because you almost wouldn’t expect his slinky, laid-back beats to play like the rollicking big-band funk of a group like The Gap Band or The Time in a live setting. But they do, which is surprising considering the stripped-down nature of his band — just a keyboardist, his producer, Kal Banx, and a drummer.

Likewise, JID was joined onstage by Christo and a keyboardist of his own, who actually played a keytar at one point — and I’m all the way here for a resurgence of that particular instrument — as JID headbanged along. Even my increasingly creaky knees couldn’t resist putting in a few minutes of jack-in-the-box-style bouncing (which I’m currently paying for; it was worth it).

Naturally, there were guest stars galore. JID’s Spillage Village co-stars Earthgang joined him for a couple of songs, while Smino’s set was graced by BJ The Chicago Kid and Westside Boogie. I even spied a few other collaborators like Buddy and Wynne milling around taking in the show from the VIP section. But the surprise of the night was when JID introduced one of his best friends, who turned out to be rock-rapper Trippie Redd.

The crowd even had a warm reception for the duo’s opener, Atlanta native Swavay, whose finale included leaving the stage to lead a swirling maelstrom of a mosh pit. Usually, when a rapper cries “open it up,” I can’t help but roll my eyes a bit at the half-hearted attempts to clear space on the floor for some mischief. Swavay got it right.

The big takeaway from the success of the evening, though, is probably how it points to the way fanbases grow these days. As much as nearly everyone in the industry frowns at the pittances DSPs pay artists for their music, in the absence of a working touring infrastructure for the past two years, streaming not only sustained middle-class acts like JID and Smino, it grew their support. They might be middle class for much longer.

The long break between tours likely also gave fans a chance to miss these artists, making their returns feel more like an event. There’s something to that, I think; in this era where it seems the only pathway to success is oversaturating the marketplace, experience is telling us that a “less is more” approach might be just as effective — so long as the quality of the product remains high.

With JID and Smino, the quality was never really in doubt. When I saw both at those smaller venues all those years ago, I knew each was a star. Although they have different approaches — JID high-energy, Smino calm — they both exude charm and charisma and polished, carefully practiced skill (how they breathe as fast as they rap, I’ll forever wonder). That’s the reason fans always want more. I already can’t wait for them to come back.

What Songs Should We Expect Beyoncé To Play On Her ‘Renaissance Tour?’

The countdown for Beyoncé‘s Renaissance World Tour is underway. As fans across North America, Europe, and the United Kingdom scrape together their general tickets or possibly VIP packages, the question on everyone’s mind is what songs she will perform.

As confirmed by the singer’s private Dubai concert and her epic Coachella performance in 2018, every Beyoncé concert setlist features a mixture of her most recent project with sprinkles of her past musical release. However, the tricky part is that the Ivy Park boss has been in the music industry since the tender age of 15. Beyoncé has a total of seven studios, three compilations, and five live albums to her name; before even adding her projects as part of the group Destiny’s Child, there are just too many tracks to choose from.

A great place to start is the Renaissance tracklist itself. The album has received praise for the way it was flawlessly sequenced. So, it is safe to say each of those tracks will be played live in the appearance in which they appear on the album in addition to a few fan-favorite songs, including “Naughty Girl,” “Drunk In Love,” “Diva,” and “Flawless,” with a mixture of songs she’s inspired by. Maybe a few Teena Marie songs as she is sampled throughout the album.

See the Renaissance tracklist below.

1. “I’m That Girl”
2. “Cozy”
3. “Alien Superstar”
4. “Cuff It”
5. “Energy”
6. “Break My Soul”
7. “Church Girl”
8. “Plastic Off The Sofa”
9. “Virgo’s Groove”
10. “Move”
11. “Heated”
12. “Thique”
13. “All Up In Your Mind”
14. “America Has A Problem”
15. “Pure/Honey”

Draymond Green Roasts Sports Bettors: Watch

Draymond Green is a player who is not afraid to go back and forth with the fans out there. Overall, Green has seen a bit of a decline in his play over the last few years. When it comes to offense, Green has largely struggled, and it has led to a lot of roasts on social media. However, he is mostly paid to play good defense, and that is exactly what he does. Although, for those who place bets and do fantasy basketball, Green can be a frustrating player to watch.

If you are a sports fan, you know just how much sports betting has exploded as of late. It is legal in the vast majority of places across the United States, and people are taking advantage. The betting industry is making billions of dollars on sports fans, and for those losing money, it can be a frustrating proposition. Consequently, players like Green get blamed when a fan’s parlay doesn’t go the way they hoped it would.

Draymond Green Addresses Sports Bettors

Having said all of that, some sports bettors have tried to get into Green’s mentions. If he has an off night and someone bets the over, they will lace into him. Overall, Green finds it half amusing and half annoying. Subsequently, on his podcast, he went off on these fans with a simple message. “People talk so crazy on social media when they bet don’t successfully complete their bet,” Green explained. “‘Oh Draymond you such you only got seven points’ but it’s actually that you such at betting because just like I only had seven points and it was seven and a half, you could have very well chosen under seven and a half.” Essentially, Green is telling people to become better at betting.

This is definitely some solid advice that very few people will take. Overall, sports betting is incredibly accessible and with so many fans thinking they are experts, you have to expect this kind of overindulgence to continue. For players like Draymond, they will continue to be scapegoats. However, there is no doubt that sports betting will not go away, anytime soon.

SleazyWorld Go Investigated For Weapons Possession: Report

SleazyWorld Go is reportedly under investigation for weapons possession. According to AllHipHop, the outlet has obtained court documents revealing that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) agency is looking into the rapper. The report shows that Task Force Officer Nicholas Horine recently applied for a search warrant to collect DNA from the 24-year-old. They plan to compare it to evidence in an ongoing federal investigation. SleazyWorld Go would be a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as an unregistered machine gun.

SleazyWorld Go was previously convicted of armed robbery back in 2016. He’s been under surveillance since his 2020 release from prison. Police believe he is an affiliate of the Brotherland Gang (BLG). In July 2022, someone provided an anonymous tip that they had two photographs of the rapper holding a gun. By October, the feds executed federal search warrants on both his Instagram and Facebook accounts. They discovered multiple drug and firearms transactions. There were also photos and videos showing him holding up to 21 firearms at a time.

“Due to [SleazyGo World’s] open possession of firearms despite his status as a convicted felon, the presence of several armed gang members from the SleazyWorld/Brotherland Gangs, and the knowledge known to ATF personnel that the members of the gangs are associated with gun violence, drug sales, and illegally modified fully automatic firearms, investigators determined enforcement action was appropriate,” the documents obtained by AllHipHop read. “ATF personnel contacted tactical officers of the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department Special Operations Unit.”

They further continue: “Upon arrival of tactical officers from the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department, ISAAC and his associates fled on foot inside the townhome residence located at […] in an effort to elude detention by law enforcement.”

SleazyWorld Go refused to let the police officers search his vehicle for weapons. However, they still obtained access by breaking a window. They found numerous firearms inside, including an AK-47, a Glock, and more. Revisit SleazyWorld Go’s 2022 collaboration with Lil Baby, “Sleazy Flow (Remix),” below.

YoungBoy Never Broke Again Recalls Growing Up In Group Home

YoungBoy Never Broke Again reflected on growing up in a group house during his recent cover story for Billboard. Speaking with the outlet, he explained that his path changed drastically when his grandmother died in 2010. At the group home, YoungBoy had a difficult time getting along with the other kids.

“I used to get beat up inside the group home for no reason,” he said while shaking. “The other boys would put their hands on me, and I would look up like, ‘Why are you hitting me, bro? What’d I do?’ It made me discover another side of me that I never glorified or liked. I found out how to be the person that you don’t want to do that with.” He added that he “never understood all the evilness or wrong” because his grandmother had shown him so much love.

When the interviewer suggested that take a break, YoungBoy admitted, “It’s not going to stop.” Billboard described his jewelry as “audibly rattling,” by this point. He confessed, “I’m very scared right now. It’s just natural. I’m not big on people.”

“I never knew why once I walked on the stage, I could get it done and leave — but I am terrified of people. People are cruel. This is a cruel place,” YoungBoy continued. He then turned his seat toward the view behind him: “You’ve got to be thankful for it. It’s very beautiful, you know? There’s so much you can experience inside of it. But it is a very cruel place. And it’s not my home.”

Check out YoungBoy Never Broke Again’s new cover story for Billboard below. Elsewhere in the piece, YoungBoy admits that he is planning on getting a Mormon baptism after he’s done with house arrest. While living in Utah, the rapper took in a group of missionaries who introduced him to the religion.

Consequence Recalls Beanie Sigel Protecting Kanye West Against Chain Snatchers

A story that Beanie Sigel first told over a decade ago is receiving a co-sign from Consequence. The rapper and producer recently caught up with The Art of Dialogue to revisit highlights of his career. Within the conversation also arrived behind-the-scenes tales of Cons and his peers—including one about Sigel saving Ye from getting his chain snatched.

“Ye hit me the same night in the situation with the girl. I think it might have been a chick named Sydney or some sh*t like that. He took her out,” said Cons. “You know, n*gga one-two’ing. Listen, n*gga running around with a Roc-A-Fella chain on. You know what that sh*t do for your p*ssy rate?”

Cons then shared that the chain West was wearing came from Dame Dash. “He had the sh*t off of Dame neck, so he had the sh*t with the Cuban in the sh*t, ice just shining,” he recalled. “N*ggas seen that man in there and was like, ‘Yo!’ N*ggas was at the Chelsea Diner on 23rd street. N*ggas hit n*ggas with the motherf*ckin’ Raekwon and Ghostface skit. ‘Word? What do we have here?’”

“I was in Queens. I woulda had to get on the train with the gun and all that sh*t.” Cons also said. However, he was glad that there was a nearby recording studio. “But you know, fortunately, Baseline wasn’t but five blocks away. They came over and held a n*gga down. I always f*cked with them n*ggas for that sh*t. They ain’t have to.”

When Sigel first delivered the tale all those years ago, he suggested West “feel threatened.” The State Property star said he told the wanna-be theives that “nothing was going to go down” as long as he was there. It’s always good to have friends who have your back. Check out Consequence retelling the story above.

Colin Kaepernick Jersey To Sell For Big Bucks At Auction

Colin Kaepernick got a very rough deal when it comes to his time in the NFL. During his first few years with the San Francisco 49ers, he was the man. Overall, he brought the team to a Super Bowl and even orchestrated a second-half comeback that almost won them the whole thing. However, his career eventually took a turn. The 49ers started to decline and after protesting racial inequality by kneeling during the anthem, Kap found himself out of the league. Today, it is still seen as one of the biggest injustices in the history of the NFL.

Regardless, Colin Kaepernick continues to fight for what he believes in. While he still hasn’t gotten that second NFL opportunity, he still works hard whenever he gets the chance. It is clear to everyone that he remains in good shape, and one can only imagine how he would play if he were back in the league. For now, fans will simply have to dream.

Iconic Colin Kaepernick Jersey Hits Auction

Now, according to Heritage Auctions, a Kaepernick jersey from his 2013 playoff run is being sold at auction. In fact, this is a game-worn and signed jersey from the Divisional Round win against the Green Bay Packers. Overall, Kaepernick was a force in this game. He threw for 263 yards while additionally running for another 181. Moreover, he scored a grand total of four touchdowns. Interestingly enough, Kaepernick even added his stats to his signature on the jersey, which adds something unique to the memorabilia.

As it stands, Heritage Auctions is expecting this to go for a price of $40,000. For now, fans can begin bidding on this, and the auction will eventually end on February 25th. If you are a collector who loves Kap, then this will be for you. However, if you aren’t a fan, we’re sure some other great pieces will be hitting the auction block shortly.
