Bad Bunny made the final U.S. stop in his World’s Hottest Tour last night in Los Angeles at SoFi Stadium, but the “Ojitos Lindos” singer didn’t leave the City of Angels without making an even greater lasting mark than just a memorable on-stage performance. That’s because the Los Angeles City Council declared that October 1st will be forever known as “Bad Bunny Day” in L.A.
L.A. City Councilman Kevin de León (a former congressman) was the one who introduced the resolution, which was seconded by every other member of the council. In speaking with local press, De León cited Bad Bunny’s, “Immense cultural impact to the Latino community across the City of L.A.” Adding that, “The City of LA’s population is 50% Latino, one of the largest Latino populations in the world outside Latin American countries. Bad Bunny’s cultural impact will have a tremendous and positive influence on future generations and will redefine Latino culture in Los Angeles and beyond for years to come.”
The cultural impact of what Bad Bunny has done for Música Latina’s global appeal is undeniable. He was the most-streamed artist in the world on Spotify last year and continues to raise his profile as an artist. Furthermore, the motion from the L.A. Council cited, the reggaeton and trap artist as, “Transcending those genres through the incorporation of rock, punk, and soul.”
Trippie Redd may have plenty of smash bangers under his belt, but don’t let that take away from his overall versatility as an artist. The Ohio native is further proving that point with a new two-pack of tracks titled First Draft, which see him going in a more acoustic direction with pained vocals. This dual drop comes just a couple of months after “Big 14” with Moneybagg Yo and Offset, and after he’s called his upcoming album A Love Letter To You 5 his best work to date.
The first track, “Save Me, Please,” is a despondent acoustic ballad not unlike his previous forays into emo and balladry. HIs voice is mournful and strained in this cut, underscored by the minimal and echoed acoustic guitar passages. Trippie’s working with just those two elements throughout the song, with some electric guitar lines to inject some melody, and the results are compelling. He seems to be singing about a struggling relationship. He’s “tired of the fighting,” lamenting the distance between them, and begging them to save him from himself. It’s a short moment, but a tender one nonetheless. “Save Me, Please” was also accompanied by a music video that depicts Trippie in candlelit church rooms, dark hallways, and a moonlit forest.
“1st Degree Murder” is the second track on First Draft, and it’s also in a hazy state of romantic reckoning. The 23-year-old says he’d kill if someone talks down on his love and proclaims the elevated state they put him in. This track, however, has much more of a melodic trap flavor than the first, with a wavy snap beat and an impassioned vocal delivery that gets the melody stuck in your head.
Since Trippie continues to build out his many musical influences (and has a $30 million deal with 10k Projects), we’re sure to get a versatile and vivid rage when he drops A Love Letter To You 5 soon. Stay tuned to HotNewHipHop for the latest updates on that, and check out “Save Me, Please” and “1st Degree Murder” below.
Quotable Lyrics And it don’t matter if you’re far away Just bang my line and I’m on the way You know I don’t play ’bout you and me It’s gon’ be murder in the first degree
On Thursday, Drake shouted out his friend, who was celebrating his thirty-fourth birthday. He also gave him an unexpected title. “More life to my exec producer @easymoneysniper,” the 6 God wrote in an Instagram Story.
Drake and Durant have had an amicable relationship for a while. Back in 2016, Drake shouted out KD in his song “Weston Road Flows” off of Views.
Now, it seems like they’re more buddy-buddy than ever. A couple weeks ago, Durant and Drizzy were spotted on a night out in New York City. The two were celebrating, and people speculated it was an early birthday bonanza for Durant. Unsurprisingly, the two were swarmed by adoring fans as they left a party and got into their vehicles.
Both men have been experiencing a bit of drama as of late. Drake recently got into a bizarre beef with YouTube music critic Anthony Fantano. “Your existence is a light 1,” Drake DM’d Fantano, referring to the critic’s rating scale. “And the 1 is cause you are alive. And cause you somehow wifed a black girl. I’m feeling a light to decent 1 on your existence.”
Durant, meanwhile, has been embroiled in a tumultuous relationship with the Nets, which seems to have settled down for the time being. Happy birthday, KD.
Chloe x Halle always knew they had strong potential as a duo, but over the last year, we’ve seen the Atlanta-based sisters explore themselves as individuals more than ever before. While the younger of the two spent time working with Disney on The Little Mermaid live-action remake, the eldest sister has been busy sharing new singles in between her sultry Instagram snapshots.
Chlöe’s first release as a solo artist was “Have Mercy,” which she followed earlier this year with “Treat Me,” the Shemix of Capella Grey’s “GYALIS,” and most recently, the super sexy “Surprise.”
As she prepares for the arrival of her next single, “For The Night,” the 24-year-old created a Twitter Spaces session so she could dish to her fans about what they should expect.
“Imma tell y’all a little secret about ‘For The Night,’” she began. “*deep breath* I might regret saying this, but hey, maybe it’ll help f*cking streams. I don’t even think he knows this! I wrote ‘For The Night’ about Gunna,” Bailey admitted.
“Yep, I said it bitches. I said it. So, you know. Yep. I wrote that song after The Breakfast Club interview I believe,” the R&B vocalist recalled.
As she continued to defend her decision, Bailey stated, “I’m a songwriter. I write my own shit, I get inspired by the smallest things, so, kiss my ass *laughs*. Talkin’ bout why don’t I say free this, or free that? Kiss my ass, I support in real life. Thank you!”
“But I’m single,” she clarified just as quickly. “I’m single, guys. Sorry to bust bubbles, but when I wrote that song months ago, I wrote it about him.”
Bailey then urged her fans to make sure they stream her upcoming single so they can find out about all the tea.
“Y’all talk about I need to spill the tea? I spilled the motherf*cking tea! So y’all can’t say I don’t spill tea no f*cking more.”
Are you excited to hear what Chlöe has to say about Gunna on her new song? Sound off in the comments, and tap back in with HNHH later for more hip-hop news updates.
PnB Rock was peacefully laid to rest at just 30 years old last month, but the Los Angeles Police Department continues to investigate exactly what led up to the recording artist being fatally shot in front of his girlfriend at Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles.
According to a new report from Fox 11 Los Angeles, the “Selfish” hitmaker’s death may have a fourth suspect who authorities are currently on the hunt for, as they say this person likely played an instrumental role in the fatal tragedy.
The outlet shared that prosecutors believe there was an unidentified man outside the restaurant on the city’s south side when PnB arrived to dine with his partner. He waited until Freddie Lee Trone (who was already arrested in connection with the murder along with his 17-year-old son earlier this week) arrived outside the joint, and the two were seen having a conversation before Trone left and returned with his son, whose name remains anonymous at this time.
The teen was reportedly dropped off within walking distance of Roscoe’s. When entering the restaurant, he allegedly pointed a gun at Rock’s partner, Steph Sibounheuang, telling her to “Give me all of your jewelry now!”
Reports reveal that PnB – born Rakim Allen – was shot in the chest just moments later. The gunman hit the recording artist twice more in the back after he fell to the ground, then turned back to Sibounheuang and said, “Show me your hands, give me that — right now. I swear to God! I shoot you in the head!”
After Steph gave over all of her possessions, the attacker proceeded to remove Allen’s chains, watch, and even his rings as he lay bleeding on the floor. The suspect is said to have run outside to his father’s car afterward, with the two then returning to their home.
These new details provide a different timeline of events than the one authorities initially believed when the 17-year-old unnamed Trone was arrested on Tuesday (September 27).
Antonio Brown’s a controversial character, becoming one of those celebrities that will be in the news multiple times in a week for completely different reasons. Whether it’s his continuous criticism of NFL members, his performance at Rolling Loud Miami this year, or his history of assault allegations, the former pro receiver is always turning heads his way. Guests at a Dubai pool, though, immediately turned away when they saw that he was exposing himself while enjoying the water.
The football star was caught on video exposing his behind in a woman’s face and popping his manhood out on occasion. Onlookers around the pool were shocked, disgusted, amused, or all three at once. Eyewitnesses claim that he had just met the woman and that she was not happy after the incident.
Reportedly, the video was filmed at an outdoor swimming pool at the Armani Hotel Dubai on May 14th. Eventually, hotel staff asked the ex-Buccaneer to leave.
As expected, social media has been ablaze with responses to AB’s latest craziness. Many in the Instagram comments couldn’t believe that he took that risk in Dubai and were anticipating some heavy consequences for Brown.
Twitter’s been having a field day, of course, with plenty of memes and jokes to commemorate the wackiness. A lot of people seem pretty fed up with the ex-player’s attitude and antics, but it’s no doubt part of his pop culture notoriety in the worlds of sports and music. Many users rightfully highlighted the harassing nature and severity of the incident and tied it to previous behaviors.
The nudist at the hotel pool is still a major voice in sports and, most recently, music. Stay tuned to HotNewHipHop for the latest on AB, and whether his actions result in consequences.
As the YSL RICO trial nears closer, it seems Young Thug and his attorney Brian Steel are getting their affairs in order in hopes of getting the rapper his freedom back.
According to AllHipHop, the latest update from Thugger’s case reveals that he’s filed a motion requesting that the overseeing judge rule to suppress some statements he made while in police custody during an involuntary interrogation.
The Atlanta native’s lawyer has issued claims that two law enforcement officers interrogated his client in the Dekalb County Jail despite him never having waived his Miranda rights. According to Steel, Cobb County Investigator David Raissi and ATF Special Agent T. Cunningham placed the rapper in an interrogation room without his legal counsel’s permission, knowledge, or consent.
“All of [Young Thug’s] statements must be suppressed from the trial in the above-referenced case, and all witnesses must be instructed not to utter the fact that [Young Thug] made any statements which were not voluntarily made, were made in violation of his Constitutional right to counsel and made in violation of Miranda warning,” the filing declares.
“Additionally, no mention can be made that [Young Thug] was given the opportunity to speak with law enforcement since this is post-arrest.”
At the same time, it’s been noted that the 31-year-old has requested that the judge return computers and phones that were seized from his Sandy Springs, Georgia home in July of 2015 when he was handed felony charges.
Thug allegedly threatened a security guard at a mall prior to the incident, leading authorities to raid his house and uncover an assortment of drugs and guns. Ultimately, though, the charges were tossed when a trial ruled that the search was unconstitutional.
The devices taken were suppressed by written order in April of 2017 and intended to be returned to the YSL leader, but he never saw them again. They instead ended up being sent to a company called Cellebrite by Chief Deputy District Attorney Michael Sprinkel to be searched.
Steel has pointed out that there was no valid search warrant allowing this after the 2017 ruling, and that searching them in May of that year was a violation of Thugger’s “possessory interests in his lawfully obtained property that the prosecution had absolutely no legal right to possess.”
Ultimately, the end goal of this filing is for Judge Ural Glanville to suppress any statement Thug made during the aforementioned interrogation, as well as any evidence that may have come from his phones, hard drives, and computers.
Other speculation has centered around who, if anyone, will be joining the pop star on stage. One particularly big artist seems to have thrown his hat in the ring: Kanye West.
On Instagram, Kanye posted a Story which included a screenshot of an article from Daily Mail. The article suggested that Rihanna was “mulling over list of 50 possible guest artists” for her halftime show appearance, and included Kanye as one of the potential names. Ye didn’t elaborate, but the screenshot suggests that, if nothing else, he’s not opposed to the idea.
Other names in the article included Paul McCartney, who joined Ye and Rihanna on “FourFiveSeconds,” and Bono, the lead singer of U2. According to the publication, any of Rihanna’s past collaborators are “fair game” to make an appearance.
That means it’s a pretty long, and pretty exciting, group of prospects. Rihanna’s worked with Nicki Minahj, Jay-Z, Drake, SZA, Calvin Harris, and many more in the past.
Rihanna herself hasn’t confirmed any of the rumors just yet. According to TMZ, sources have also said she could potentially be doing the performance totally alone. The elusive singer was spotted eating at Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica on Friday, dressed to the nines.
Who are you hoping gives a guest performance at the halftime show? Sound off in the comments.
