Wiz Khalifa Drops Off “Multiverse” Ft. THEY. & Girl Talk

It doesn’t matter if he stands alone, offers a collaboration, or updates his catalog with another project—Wiz Khalifa is an artist who consistently releases new music. The Taylor Gang hitmaker is a feel-good figure in Hip Hop who regularly arrives with good vibes and music to chill to, and he returned on New Music Friday (July 29) with his latest album, Multiverse.

This week, Wiz caught up with Stereogum to discuss the inspiration behind creating the record.

“It was to make the best music possible and to have fun and try to come up with something I haven’t done before, but also to really get ideas out that I’ve been having for a minute. The album kind of took shape on its own, with me just trying to create different moments for myself, whether it be a fun and upbeat moment like ‘Iced Out Necklace’ or a club moment like ‘Bad Ass B*tches’ or, you know, more serious or soulful moments or segues into things that lyrically I can do. But musically, it’s really cool and it kind of takes you on a journey. That was the idea behind it, just to make something that gives people a chance to sit down and really enjoy some sh*t.”

Listeners Marvel Over The Sequencing Of Beyoncé’s ‘Renaissance’

It is not enough to simply throw a bunch of good songs together on an album. Music listeners are more critical than ever about sequencing and transitions. Unsurprisingly, Beyoncé understood the assignment on her new album Renaissance and fans are in awe.

An early favorite 1-2 punch is “Plastic On The Sofa” into “Virgo’s Groove.” Another fan acknowledged the sequential trio of “Cuff It,” “Energy,” and “Break My Soul.” One, Scottie Beam, even described the transitions as “tender a** fall off the bone.” Needless to say, people seem happy with the album.

Beyoncé’s new album Renaissance is out now via Parkwood Entertainment LLC and Columbia Records. The 15-track LP was first announced in June, with Variety reporting it would feature heavy country and dance music. The latter was confirmed with the release of the upbeat lead single “Break My Soul.”

After sharing the album’s tracklist last week, the Lemonade artist finished off her rollout with a statement on her website saying “Creating this album allowed me a place to dream and to find escape during a scary time for the world. It allowed me to feel free and adventurous in a time when little else was moving. My intention was to create a safe place, a place without judgment. A place to be free of perfectionism and overthinking. A place to scream, release, feel freedom. It was a beautiful journey of exploration.”

She released yet another statement upon the album’s release, thanking the fans who were patient enough to wait until today (July 29) to listen despite Renaissance leaking earlier this week.

Calvin Harris Unites With Offset, Normani, & Tinashe On “New To You”

We’re inching closer to the release of Calvin Harris’ anticipated Funk Wav. Bounces Vol. 2 and the producer-songwriter-DJ is back with another release. Features on the record include 21 Savage on “New Money,” a track that was shared earlier this month, as well as Busta Rhymes, Shenseea, Justin Timberlake, Pusha T, 6LACK, Latto, Pharrell Williams, Snoop Dogg, Halsey, Swae Lee, and more. For his single “New To You,” Harris brought out some hitmakers, as he added Offset, Normani, and Tinashe as additions.

When he spoke with Zane Lowe on New Music Daily on Apple Music 1 back in May, Harris revealed how he approached artists that ended up on Funk Wav. Bounces Vol. 2.

“It’s like completely like no pressure. Like, I’ll give you a platform if you’re an artist to go and do this and have a laugh,” he said. “I can promise you it’ll sound good. Might not be a hit, but you’ll have a good time. You’ll make a good record. And you might just end up on a tune with someone that you would never dream of, you know? So, it’s kind of like the offer to them is that, and if I can convey that, then usually people are up for it. If they like making music and they like good songs, usually.”

Stream “New To You” and let us know what you think. Funk Wav. Bounces Vol. 2 is set for release on August 5.

Quotable Lyrics

I was dead on relationships, you made me feel like livin’
I’ma stand on the business, ’cause I
I got multimillion plans for us all to survive
All I need for you to do is never fold and don’t lie
I felt like you was the one when I had looked in your eyes
Open the door, she seen the Ghost and we should go take a ride

Nav Shares “Never Sleep” Ft. Travis Scott & Lil Baby

It was almost exactly a month ago when a press release stated that we were entering into Nav’s season. The XO artist and hitmaking producer has topped the charts on more than one occasion, but we haven’t had a project from Nav in almost two years since he shared his Emergency Tsunami mixtape. Like other projects in his catalog, Nav’s tape was praised, and it looks like we’ll be receiving a new album sooner than we think.

Back in June, Nav announced the forthcoming arrival of his fourth studio album Demons Protected By Angels, and while he has yet to share a release date, he emerged this New Music Friday (July 29) with a new single. The award-winner reunites with Lil Baby and Travis Scott on his project’s lead single, “Never Sleep,” a track that was teased last week.

Stream “Never Sleep” and let us know if you’re looking forward to Demons Protected By Angels.

Quotable Lyrics

Yeah, I’m from the streets
They remember me, lil’ Dominique
I’m a dog don’t deny it at all
Nah, for real, keep your b*tch on the leash
Why you tryna compete with me? Know you can’t see me
I go the hardest and then I press repeat
Give a head start and they still ain’t gon’ beat me

Beyoncé Thanks The Fans Who Did Not Listen To The ‘Renaissance’ Leak

An unfortunate reality for artists is that while they fully intend to deliver new music on their own timetable, the internet often has other plans. Many artists have had songs and entire albums leak ahead of their planned release. Shockingly, Beyoncé fell victim to this as well with Renaissance leaking just two days before its official drop. Queen Bey seems unphased, though.

In a tweet, the “Halo” artist posted a regal photo of herself and thanked the fans who waited. “So, the album leaked, and you all actually waited until the proper release time so you all can enjoy it together. I’ve never seen anything like it. I can’t thank y’all enough for your love and protection. I appreciate you all for calling out anyone that was trying to sneak into the club early. It means the world to me. Thank you for your unwavering support. Thank you for being patient. We are going to take our time and enjoy the music. I will continue to give my all and do. my best to bring you joy. I love you deep.”

Beyoncé’s new album Renaissance is out now via Parkwood Entertainment LLC and Columbia Records. The 15-track LP was first announced in June, with Variety reporting it would feature heavy country and dance music. The latter was confirmed with the release of the upbeat lead single “Break My Soul.” The rollout continued with the reveal of Renaissance‘s cover art, with a semi-nude Beyoncé sitting atop a crystalline horse with bright yellow lights within it.

Excitement for the album grew even further when the internet discovered its list of composers, including Drake, Jay-Z, Skrillex, Big Freedia, The Neptunes, Mike Dean and several other talented creators. A reference track for “Heated” performed by Drake even surfaced on the internet, causing fans to wonder if they would get a follow-up to their 2015 collaboration “Can I” and the cult classic “Mine” from 2013’s Beyonce.

The wait is over. The Renaissance is here.

Quavo & Takeoff Are Back With “Us Vs Them” Ft. Gucci Mane

Two-thirds of the Migos have returned with another single, further increasing the gossip surrounding the group’s status. Months ago, Takeoff and Quavo emerged with their single “Hotel Lobby” and delivered an accompanying visual that paid homage to Hunter S. Thompson’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The absence of Offset caused fans to murmur about a possible split, but it was suggested that all was good on the family and professional front for the hitmaking relatives.

However, as the BeyHive buzzes about Beyoncé’s Renaissance, Quavo and Takeoff have returned with a second single, this time with help from Gucci Mane on “Us Vs Them.” A press release teased that an album is on the way, but it is unclear if that will be as a duo or a trio. We’ll keep you tuned in for more about that as information is shared, but for now, stream “Us Vs Them” and let us know your thoughts.

Quotable Lyrics

Steppin’ in shoes that’s not your size (N*ggas ain’t steppin’)
The back of the Maybach I sit and recline (Thinkin’ ’bout what?)
And I got Franklins all on my mind, then chrome, then spine (What else?)
Chrome the 9 (Then what?) and bulletproof the ride (Skrrt)
