Trick Daddy, Trina, Jeezy, T.I. And More Held It Down For The South At The 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards

After touching on hip-hop’s roots in the first Hip-Hop 50 tribute of the night and taking a trip out west in the second, the third Hip-Hop 50 tribute of the 2023 BET Awards focused on the contributions of the South — namely, south Florida. Naturally, there were some pretty obvious names that needed to show up, and show up they did. Trick Daddy and Trina performed their breakout hit “Nann N****,” while Uncle Luke of 2 Live Crew popped out for a raucous rendition of the group’s unapologetic hit “I Wanna Rock (Doo Doo Brown).”

More Southern artists appeared in a separate clip, as Atlanta crunk pioneers Yin Yang Twins rocked right after Chicago drill genre-breaker Chief Keef. Trillville wasn’t part of the tribute but appeared during Doechii’s performance of “Block Boy,” nodding to her interpolation of the group’s 2004 hit “Some Cut” with Lil Scrappy. Jeezy, T.I., and Master P also represented for Atlanta and New Orleans, respectively when they performed at another Hip-Hop 50 tribute later in the ceremony. Honestly, it was pretty packed — which is impressive, considering all this had to be coordinated without the help of a host to keep things in line.

You can watch some of the performances from the 2023 BET Awards above.

Trick Daddy Ends An Era By Replacing His 30-Year-Old Grills

Trick Daddy, the Miami rap icon has recently made headlines ending a 30-year era by replacing his gold grillz with shiny veneers. While Trick might be waving goodbye to his grills, he’ll be saying hello to better oral health. Daniel Noguera, CEO of 5-star Smiles, shared with TMZ Hip Hop that the rap legend finally had a realization about his oral health after 15 years of neglect. After over a decade of refusing to go to the dentist, Trick is met with a multitude of complications.

Trick Daddy’s gold grills were first set in 1994 and were center stage as he continued to make platinum records. However, the permanent caps began to cause significant damage and decay to his teeth, resulting in bone loss surgery and temporary fillings. Meanwhile, as his gums heal, Trick Daddy spent over 60k for the first treatment and will have the bottom teeth removed next week. Albeit this is just the beginning of Trick Daddy’s dental health journey. He still has his final treatment in two months, which will result in beautiful porcelain veneers for his teeth. Love & Hip Hop Miami will be getting full coverage of his journey

Lil Wayne, T.I. Intended To Form Boyz N Da Hood Before Jeezy Joined Group

With only two albums out, Boyz N Da Hood defined an era in the mid-aughts. The group consisted of Jeezy, Gorilla Zoe, Big Gee, Big Duke, and Jody Breeze, though that wasn’t initially the roster. Jody Breeze spoke to Vlad TV, where he confirmed Jeezy wasn’t actually supposed to be in the group. Instead, Block Entertainment co-founder, Russell “Block” Spencer, wanted a roster of stars in Boyz N Da Hood. He planned to have T.I., Lil Wayne, and Trick Daddy on board for the Bad Boy-signed band.

“The group actually was supposed to have been me, Trick Daddy, T.I. and Lil Wayne,” Breeze explained. “That was Block’s first plan, but I was like, ‘They already on, they already popping,” he continued. Though Breeze already gained momentum, he explained that he didn’t feel ready to stand alongside established Southern powerhouses. Though he worked with T.I. and Lil Wayne, he didn’t think it made sense to join them at this point. “I was telling Block like, ‘Nah, I don’t think I want to be in a group with them at this time,’” he added.

Trick Daddy Rejected Feature On Boyz N Da Hood’s “Dem Boyz”

T.I. and Lil Wayne have previously addressed (and shut down) rumors of joining the group. However, Breeze explained that a few records from the Boyz N Da Hood catalog initially belonged to other artists. Breeze recalled a session with Trick Trick who “didn’t like” the single, “Dem Boyz.” However, he provided vocals on two other records including “P*ssy MFs. This record, in particular, landed on their self-titled debut album. Additionally, T.I.’s “Stand Up” ft. Lil Wayne, Trick Daddy, and Lil Jon was intended for Boyz N Da Hood before Tip added it to Urban Legend.

Boyz N Da Hood didn’t necessarily have a long career, though that’s partially due to Jeezy’s success as a solo artist. By the time the group’s sophomore album, Back Up N Da Chevy, hit shelves, the Trap or Die rapper had already found incredible success and further pushed his solo career. Evidently, it worked out for the best as he continued to define trap music and Atlanta’s rap scene that opened the gates for many of the artists we love today.

Uncle Murda Responds To Trick Daddy Calling Him A “Clown,” 50 Cent Chimes In

In social media beefs you didn’t expect to see, things are getting tense between Trick Daddy and Uncle Murda. There wasn’t much rumbling from these two until Trick took to his cooking show to let off some steam. “And I’mma tell y’all somethin’ right now,” the music veteran said. “Viral is something that you do accidentally. Anybody that tries to go viral, you are considered, to me, as a clown. You’re a joke, you’re a fool, you’re a gimmick, you’re a fraud. You catfish. Viral is something that is supposed to happen accidentally unless you’re a content creator unless you’re an actor, unless you a clown that do magic tricks.”

Each year, Murda recaps what occurred with his “Rap Up” roundup. He targets just about anyone in entertainment, and Trick has found his name mentioned. In 2021, Murda called Trick a “cokehead” for negatively speaking about Beyoncé’s vocal talents. It’s obviously something that didn’t sit well.

“You mention the dead, you mention victims, you mention everybody, you mention people’s money, wives, children. You’re disrespectful and that’s clown sh*t,” Trick Daddy further stated. He also called Murda “the No. 1 clown for the last five years.” He added, “You said my name, and I didn’t say nothing about it because I didn’t want this to be about me. It’s not about me. This is about everybody that feel like they don’t have the voice to say something to you. I’m gon’ say something to you and I stand on what I said.”

The remarks made their way to Murda’s desk, and he happily reposted the clip of Trick’s show. In the caption, he also added, “This sh*t got me rolling 😂😂 Dammmm all that my n*gga @trickdaddydollars mad at me cause I called him a coke head #RapUp2023Intro.” The comment section quickly lit up, and 50 Cent dropped by to say what many others were thinking.

Uncle Murda Responds To Trick Daddy Calling Him A Clown For Annual ‘Rap Up’

Screen Shot 2023 02 19 at 12.02.06 PM

Rapper Trick Daddy had some harsh words for Brooklyn rapper Uncle Murda about his annual “Rap Up” tracks. Trick took a shot at Murda for a line he said about him in his Rap-Up 2021. He dubbed Murda a clown for consciously attempting to go viral. Murda responded by reposting Trick’s statement adding Trick would be a part of next year’s Rap Up.

On his new episode of his cooking show ‘I Got My Pots’ the Miami rapper shared,  “Viral is something that you do accidentally. Anybody that tries to go viral, you are considered, to me, as a clown. You’re a joke. You’re a fool. You’re a gimmick. You’re a fraud. You catfish. Viral is something that is supposed to happen accidentally unless you’re a content creator, unless you’re an actor, unless you a clown that do magic tricks.”

He then turned his attention to the G-Unit rapper, calling him “the #1 clown for the last five years.” The Miami native went into a rant about how the 42-year-old observes the difficult things people go through, makes note of them, and puts those events into songs because he “got nothing else to do.”

Uncle Murda’s lines aimed at Trick Daddy were in response to Trick’s comments about Beyoncé’s inability to sing. “Trick Daddy said Beyoncé can’t sing, that ni**a bugged / He a coke head that’s why we tell kids say no to drugs,” Murda rapped around the five-minute mark.

Uncle Murda reposted Trick Daddy’s statement and added that Trick would be the intro for Rap-Up 2023.

Uncle Murda takes a stab at Trick around the 5:00 mark.
