Lil Nas X Says His Relationship With BET Was ‘Painful And Strained’ Even Before The 2022 BET Awards

The 2022 BET Awards have come and gone and aside from a t-shirt worn by Jack Harlow, Lil Nas X was not present. This whole saga has bothered Lil Nas X, of course, but now he has said his “painful and strained” relationship with BET actually started before he didn’t receive any award nominations from them this year.

In a statement, the rapper told Rolling Stone, “My relationship with BET has been painful and strained for quite some time. It didn’t start with this year’s nominations like most people might think. They did let me perform on their show last year, but only after [I gave] assurances that I was not a satanist or devil worshiper, and that my performance would be appropriate for their audience.”

In response, a BET spokesperson said the “summation of events around Lil Nas X’s 2021 BET Awards performance is simply untrue” and added, “Since last year’s performance, we have been in touch to work on other projects. We are still excited about his previous performances and continue to wish him well. But today, we are focused on culture’s biggest night and delivering history-making moments for fans worldwide.”

That said, an anonymous member of Nas’ team told Rolling Stone of the immediate response to Nas’ 2021 BET Awards performance (the one where he kissed one of his dancers, by the way), “At some point after [Nas] got offstage, one of the BET producers came up to me and before I could even open my mouth, he looked at me and said, ‘That was really f*cked up.’”

Nas added, “They say that ‘no one cheered louder’ for me than them that night, but the BET Awards team was actually very upset that I kissed my dancer onstage and vocalized their discontent with multiple members of my team immediately following the performance.”

Jack Harlow is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

YNW Melly’s Team Responds After Prosecutors Claim He Ordered A Hit On His Mom

As YNW Melly continues to proclaim his innocence in the murder case of YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy, the prosecutors are nailing down on him with new allegations. Court documents obtained by No Jumper reveal allegations from prosecutors that claim Melly ordered a hit on his own mother, according to the transcripts. The prosecutors also claim Melly authorized other crimes through phone communication including drug trafficking.

Via HNHH

Q: Has, in your opinion, Melly authorized any communication for the commission of a crime?

A: Yes. If you read his phone, there’s narcotics trafficking, firearms violations, authorizing the killing of his mother. Those are things that you would consider “authorizing.”

The allegations quickly swirled around the Internet, and the rapper and his mother seemingly issued their own responses to the claim. Neither directly referenced the court transcripts but the timing of the posts on their respective Instagram Stories arrived immediately after the claims went viral. “This is pure desperation,” wrote Melly’s mother with a laughing and cap emoji. Melly’s team later issued a message on his behalf, writing, “Lies. False Agenda. Innocent.”

Earlier this month, it was revealed that a main investigator in the case will be appearing as an expert witness to testify that Melly was “more likely” the gunman in Juvy and Sakchaser’s case. We’ll keep you posted on any more updates on the case.

“I was in a dark place for a few years. I have to give a special shoutout, thank you, love, to the people that was really there for me,” he said. “And also Cassie, for holding me down in the dark times, love.”

Before his speech, the network played an old video of Porter congratulating Diddy. In the clip, Porter says, “Congratulations, Puffy, you’re a star. I can’t tell you how proud I am. From Harlem to Hollywood, that’s a long journey … You work so hard, and I’ve watched you, your blood sweat and tears, and you’ve arrived.”

Miami’s City Girls partner, JT, could be seen nudging Miami to sit down during the segment of the speech. Diddy and Miami were first seen together at Quality Control CEO Pierre “Pee” Thomas’ birthday party last June. Diddy only recently confirmed that they were dating, but added that he’s single at the same time.

When the video of Miami’s reaction to the speech began spreading online, she tweeted out, “Girl please!” and reaffirmed, “GO PAPI!”

Check out Diddy’s full acceptance speech below as well as Yung Miami’s response.

Travis Scott’s Team Responds To Criticism Over $5.5 Million Bugatti Purchase Following Astroworld Tragedy

Last week, Travis Scott made headlines when it was reported that he bought a $5.5 million dollar Bugatti. However, Scott was criticized by the family of 9-year-old Ezra Blount, who died just days after being trampled at the Astroworld festival.

Ezra’s family’s attorney, Bob Hillard told TMZ that the child would have still been alive if Scott “would’ve spent half of what he paid for the Bugatti on simple safety measures at the deadly music festival.”

However, a representative for Scott decided to set the record straight on the purchase, saying that it was bought in 2020.

According to TMZ, Scott’s representative told the news outlet that  “This latest attempt to exploit Astroworld victims and gaslight the media and the public is a new low. The car referenced was purchased way back in 2020 well before the tragic events at Astroworld), and covered widely by the media — including TMZ — at that time. Misrepresenting a two-year-old car purchase to make an unprovoked and unjustified attack on Travis Scott is nothing more than another desperate publicity stunt to try to falsely blame Travis and intentionally manipulate public opinion, which won’t work.”

In a new court filing in May, the total number of injury claims has topped 4,900. This includes the lawsuits from the families of the 10 concert-goers that died, the 732 claims in relation to injuries that required extensive medical care, 1,649 for less-extensive treatment, and another 2,540 claims that are still being reviewed.

Kendrick Lamar Makes Powerful Message About Roe V. Wade Overturn During Glastonbury Performance

kendrick lamar glastonbury

On Friday, the Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, a landmark Supreme Court decision that granted federal protection over the right for women to legally get abortions, thus leaving its legality up to the states. This has sparked multiple protests across the country, and even the world watches as the United States takes another step back in ensuring the rights and safety of its citizens.

During his headlining set at Glastonbury on Sunday, June 26, Kendrick Lamar used the stage to make a powerful message about women’s rights. In the clip below, Kendrick is wearing the diamond-encrusted crown of thorns with blood coming from his head as he raps “They judge you, they judged Christ. Godspeed for women’s rights.”

K.Dot also addressed the crowd during his performance of “Love.”

“On behalf of me and my team, I want to thank every individual out here tonight,” he said. “I consider y’all family, this shit is special, it means a lot to me. I look out into the crowd and I see different creeds, different colors. I wear this crown. They judged Christ. They judge you, they judged Christ. We gonna continue to walk in his image.”

Among the other artists who spoke out about the Supreme Court’s ruling were Megan Thee Stallion and Eminem. Meg led the crows in chanting, “My body, my motherfucking choice.”
