Drake Sits Courtside to Support J.Cole at His Canadian Basketball Game

FUcxjelWQAAYmO3

In the Hip-Hop world, Drake is a person we would call a “real one.” Not only did the Canadian superstar help land J.Cole a roster spot on the Scarborough Shooting Stars in The Canadian Elite Basketball League, but the 6 God came to support his boy.

Drake sat courtside Saturday night at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, wearing a J.Cole jersey. Unfortunately, Cole and The Shooting Stars fell to the Honey Badgers, 69-84. It marked the team’s third loss of its inaugural season.

Cole landed a deal with the Shooting Stars in May. In his first game, the guard, who stands at 6-foot-3-inches, made a corner 3-pointer en route to a  98-81 win over the Ottawa BlackJacks.

Georgia Teen Arrested After Threatening Fulton County Sherrif After Arrest of Young Thug

Mender Quartavius

A teen in Georgia has been charged with 23 counts of terroristic threats after threatening to kill the Fulton county Sheriff for arresting Young Thug and members of the Young Stoner Life Records roster. The crew was arrested last month on a 56-count state RICO indictment.

Fox 5 reports that 18-year-old Quartavius Mender was arrested on May 26 for giving death threats on Instagram targeting Fulton county Sheriff Pat Labat. Mender also targeted Labat’s wife and the Atlantic Public Schools Police Chief Ronald Applin. During the threats he demanded one of the defendants be released.

“We take these kinds of brazen threats seriously,” Sheriff Labat said. “Social media cyberbullying, and hiding behind a keyboard will not protect someone from criminal prosecution. Our investigators are diligent in seeking individuals who mean to do harm to anybody, and I am grateful to them for ensuring the safety of myself, my wife, and all citizens of Fulton County.”

Young Thug’s lawyer is demanding the release of his client as he is experiencing conditions that are compared to a dungeon.

According to TMZ, attorney Brian Steel stated Thugger is being held in complete isolation in a room that only has a bed and a toilet. The room also has an overhead light that is on all day. Steel also notes Thug has not been able to exercise, shave, or have any contact with a human. The food is also described as inedible. Steel has cited the 8th and 14th Amendments as violations of his client’s rights.

The repeated attempts to release Young Thug on bond have been denied, including a recent attempt that included the assistance of Kevin Liles. According toVariety, CEO of 300 Entertainment, Kevin Liles even took the stand and testified that Thug who is signed to his label is “like a son” and he was willing to put up his own wealth and business to secure his bond.

Lil Yachty Says Drake Wrote His ‘Churchill Downs’ Verse For Jack Harlow In 11 Minutes

Lil Yachty sat down with DJ Akademiks for an episode of Off The Record on June 4 to discuss many things, namely whether Migos is really splitting up. In the midst of their conversation, Drake came up as well, which lead to the “Minnesota” artist revealing Drake told him he wrote his “Churchill Downs” verse, which appears on Jack Harlow’s sophomore album Come Home The Kids Miss You, in just 11 minutes.

Akademiks, a known OVO stan, became consumed with excitement and mentioned a clip on social media where Harlow is looking over the Six God’s shoulder as he is typing on his phone. Yachty seemed uncertain as to whether the verse was being written in the said clip, but allowed Akademiks to continue waxing poetic on “one of the best verses of the last ten years” before comically stating he gets too excited when discussing Drake.

“Churchill Downs” leaked a few weeks before Jack Harlow’s album was released and sent social media into a frenzy due to being yet another exceptional Drake verse loaded with supposed shots at his (former?) rival Pusha T. Listeners did not hesitate to compare his verse to the “First Class” artist’s either, likening the experience to one Drake had early in his career on “Light Up” with Jay-Z. Last week, Harlow and Drake officially released the “Churchill Downs” video starring Boi-1da, Bryson Tiller, and more living the good life at the Kentucky Derby.

Check out the Off The Record clip above. Watch the “Churchill Downs” video below.

Jack Harlow is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Andre Iguodala Reveals If He Deserved Finals MVP Over Steph Curry

Back in 2015, the NBA world was surprised to see that Andre Iguodala won Finals MVP over Steph Curry. Iguodala was instrumental in defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers as he helped shut down LeBron James who didn’t have Kyrie Irving to back him up. Despite Iguodala’s solid play, there were many who felt that Steph was more deserving especially since he was the one who really took the team to the promised land throughout the season.

Even today, there are critics who claim that Steph’s legacy isn’t complete due to his lack of Finals MVPs. The 2015 Finals stand out in that regard, and recently, Iguodala was asked by The Athletic about whether or not he truly deserved that MVP. In his answer, Iggy was diplomatic saying that based on the circumstances, he thinks he was still deserving.

“As I said, I think it was well deserved. I just made the most of the opportunity,” Iguodala said. “The scheme was set up for me to beat (James). And that doesn’t happen too often in the finals. Normally it’s the guy who’s the favorite, (who has) the odds, those are the guys who always get the NBA Finals MVP. And I think that I just made the most of the opportunity.”

Iguodala’s MVP is certainly something that will be debated for years to come, however, it is clear that he is at peace with whatever decision was made that year. Perhaps now, NBA fans can stop harping on this little piece of ancient history.

Trouble Was Shot & Killed During A “Domestic Situation,” Sheriff Says

The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Department has issued a search warrant for 33-year-old Atlanta man Jamichael Jones in connection with the murder of Trouble. Releasing new details regarding the rapper’s death, the department says that he was visiting a “female friend” at Lake St. James Apartments in Conyers, Georgia, where a “domestic situation” arose.

“What we know and what I can tell you is that Mr. Mariel Orr [Trouble] was visiting a female friend at the apartment complex and Mr. Jamichael Jones did know the female and it was a domestic situation,” said Rockdale County Public Information Officer Jedidia Canty. “I know there are a lot of people that are really upset right now about the situation.”

Police responded to reports of a shooting at 3:20 AM at the apartment complex, where they found Trouble lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Jones allegedly knows the woman but did not know Trouble. He is currently wanted for murder, home invasion, and aggravated assault. It remains unclear what provoked the alleged domestic dispute.

Trouble’s ex-girlfriend Alexis Sky, as well as his label, Def Jam, confirmed the reports on Sunday. Many artists, including Bow Wow, T.I., Gucci Mane, and more have shared tributes on social media in the wake of his passing.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the children, loved ones, and fans of Trouble,” Def Jam wrote on Instagram. “A true voice for his city and an inspiration to the community he proudly represented. RIP Scoob.”

Best-known for his hits “Ain’t My Fault,” “Ready,” and “Kesha Dem,” Trouble has been involved in the rap scene since his 2011 breakout mixtape December 17th. Throughout his career, he’s collaborated with many artists including Drake, The Weeknd, Quavo, Offset, Yo Gotti, Waka Flocka Flame, and more.

NBA Twitter Loses It After Ref Admits To “Selective” Calls

Over the course of the last few years, NBA officiating has been inconsistent, to say the least. Last night in Game 2 of the NBA Finals, fans were starting to get very annoyed as the officiating crew was missing very obvious calls and at times, it seemed as though they were out there playing favorites.

One particular instance involved Draymond Green and Jaylen Brown. The consensus was that both deserved technical fouls, however, the officiating crew did not do anything about it. Steve Javie, the NBA’s referee analyst, spoke about the incident after the game and basically admitted that refs bend the rules depending on the circumstances of the game. For instance, Green already had a tech and another one would have ejected him. With that information in mind, the refs chose to just let the play defuse on its own.

“The two guys were going after each other. … You have to consider one player has definitely a technical foul. Is this enough to call a double T and eject the one player? Personally, I would say nothing and just let it defuse as that,” he explained.

This admission was pretty stunning to all of NBA Twitter. As you can see down below, there were some harsh reactions to this news. Many stated that the NBA should be embarrassed about this. Considering this is the NBA Finals, it is pretty wild to see a high-ranking official say something like this. Needless to say, the league might need to do some soul searching in the offseason.

Let us know what you think of Javie’s admission, in the comments down below.

LeBron James Teases Fans With A New Podcast

LeBron James is easily one of the most famous athletes in the entire world. He is recognizable on a global scale and if you pay attention to pop culture at all, then you should know exactly who he is. While there is no doubt that basketball is his bread and butter, he has also gotten deep into the media game. The NBA superstar has helped produce shows, documentaries, movies, and even albums. With that said, LeBron is a master of the media space.

The one thing that LeBron doesn’t have, however, is a podcast. At this point, everyone and their mom have a podcast, except for LeBron. He has steered clear of this domain for a few years now, however, it seems like he might be changing course soon, or at least that is what he is leading on.

In the tweet down below, LeBron states that he is thinking of being a guest on a show soon, although there is a chance that he will launch something of his own.

“Jumping on someone podcast soon. Maybe my own,” LeBron wrote with a thinking emoji to match.

Players like JJ Redick and Draymond Green have excelled in the podcast space and one would assume that LeBron would as well. Only time will tell whether or not a podcast is in his future.
