Capitol Records and Top Dawg Entertainment Announce Partnership, Present Artist Doechii

In honor of Capitol’s collaboration with the powerhouse independent label, the Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) flag is flying high above the historic Capitol Records Tower in Hollywood today. The two labels have teamed up to present Doechii, a highly anticipated talent.

Doechii is a Tampa-based rapper/singer/dancer/genre-disruptor/fashionista who caught fire on the Internet with her EPs Places You’ll Go and BRA-LESS, and single “Yucky Blucky Fruitcake.”

 “The legacy of Capitol and TDE continues with me and my fans…and the legacy of my music starts right here, right now,” said Doechii.

“Top Dawg Entertainment is excited to partner with Capitol Records to provide a platform for Doechii to fulfill her artistic ambitions,” says Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, founder of Top Dawg Entertainment. “Doechii’s energy is contagious and, together with Capitol, we’re committed to helping her share her gifts with the world.”

Doechii’s debut TDE track, “Persuasive,” which was produced by Kal Banks and executive produced by Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, was released last week.

Recap: Spotify Celebrates Nigo & Friends for ‘I Know NIGO!’ Album Release in Los Angeles

Nigo’s new album, I Know NIGO!, was celebrated exclusively by Spotify and its flagship hip-hop playlist, RapCaviar. To create an enhanced family barbecue, Spotify took over interior designer Kelly Wearstler’s beautiful 1920s Beverly Hills mansion. Nigo’s friends, admirers, collaborators, and prominent visitors gathered for a true family reunion to honor the project.

The evening’s high point came when the man of honor himself performed a surprise set in the DJ booth. Nigo and longtime friend and album collaborator Pusha T performed tracks from the album, including “Diet Coke,” “Punch Bowl,” “Hear Me Clearly,” and “Morë Tonight,” while Pharrell Williams stunned the audience with a performance of “Beautiful.”

“This project has been a long time coming, and a true dream come true, bringing together some of my closest friends on the album,” saysNigo. “Spotify has been a great partner in my musical journey and I couldn’t have imagined a better way to celebrate the release with them, along with my close friends Pharrell, Pusha T and biggest fans. We had an epic time!”

Guests included Pharrell Williams, Puha T, DAmson Idris, Coco Jones and more.

City Girls Drop New Single And Video “Top Notch” Featuring Fivio Foreign

Miami’s own City Girls make their much-anticipated return with a new single and music video entitled “Top Notch” [feat. Fivio Foreign], out now via Quality Control Music / Motown Records. It marks the multiplatinum duo’s first release since the gold-selling 2021 smash “Twerkulator.”

The track finds a sweet spot between sexy Southern hip-hop and gritty East Coast drill. City Girls, Yung Miami and JT, instantly show out with fiery bars before Fivio warns, “This is not a movie.”Oozing confidence and charisma, JT counters, “You gotta pay for this.” In the accompanying visual, they take over New York city, turning up on street corners with a whole crew and descending upon the Big Apple like a storm. 

It will serve as the follow-up to 2020’s City On Lock LP, which graced year-end lists by NPR, Rolling Stone, and Vice, to name a few.

Kalan.FrFr Retursns with New Single “POPSTAR”

Kalan.FrFr, a fast-rising LA rapper, has released his new track “Popstar” via First Class Entertainment and Roc Nation Records.

Kalan presents his distinctive melodic flow over production from frequent collaborators and multi-platinum producers Bankroll Got It (Latto, Flo Milli, Coi Leray) and Diego Ave, who provide a boastful insider’s insight into his road to fame and fortune (Post Malone, YG, King Von).

“The concept behind the song is that anyone can be a pop star; you just have to wake up and feel like one,” said Kalan.FrFr. “It’s a belief in one’s self, a feeling that you are shining regardless of what space you are in; you don’t have to be a rapper to be a popstar, I just happen to be one!”

Lil Tjay Turns Iyaz’s “Replay” Into A Melodic Drill Smash On “In My Head”

Lil Tjay’s had fans waiting for the release of a new single, and this week, he came through. After gaining serious traction through TikTok once he shared a teaser, the rapper finally unveiled the release of “In My Head.” The rapper dives into the pain-riddled melodic drill side detailing heartbreak and disloyalty from a woman. The song heavily contains a sample of Iyaz’s single, “Replay.”

Accompanying the heartbreak anthem is a pair of new visuals starring Rubi Rose, who he once put on blast on social media after apparently flying her out. Tjay and Rose appear madly in love in the first half of the video until she finds out another woman has been texting him. It’s not hard to believe that maybe the video is based on real-life events.

“In My Head” serves as Tjay’s first release of 2022. Hopefully, a new album is to follow in the near future.

Royce Da 5’9″ Demands More Respect On J. Cole’s Name After Dreamville’s New Mixtape

Less than 48 hours before Dreamville Festival launches in Raleigh, NC this weekend, J. Cole and co. emerged alongside DJ Drama for D-Day: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape. The crew gave little notice, announcing the project with a short teaser on Wednesday night. By Thursday night, Dreamville showed out once again with their latest compilation.

Royce Da 5’9″ had nothing but kind words for the Dreamville crew, specifically J. Cole and EarthGang. Royce shared his stamp of approval in a message on Twitter where he praised Cole as an executive. “Ready to talk about EarthGang now? Matter of fact the WHOLE Dreamville. They ready for the apocalypse out this bitch,” he wrote. “Cole as an executive separates him from that 3 headed monster convo y’all been having for the last 10 yrs… Put some respek on my brother’s name,” he added.

Dreamville’s latest project serves as their official follow-up to Revengers Of The Dreamers III. D-Day: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape boasts features from Kenny Mason, 2 Chainz, A$AP Ferg, Reason, G Perico, Young Nudy, and more, along with the entire Dreamville roster. 

The release of the mixtape strategically arrived right before Dreamville Festival where DJ Drama will host the first-ever Gangsta Grillz live performance featuring T.I., Lil Wayne, and Jeezy. It seems that we could expect members of the Dreamville camp to join them, as well. 

XXXTentacion’s IG Account Sparks Juice WRLD Collab Album Speculation

XXXTentacion had a huge impact on the current crop of artists in the game. His SoundCloud output is considered legendary by many, and in some ways, his passing was an end to an era. When X died, there was one artist who sort of upheld the mantle, and that artist was Juice WRLD. With his melodies and hitmaking ability, there was no doubt that Juice was inspired by the path that X forged.

Prior to Juice’s passing, he was always talking about X and how he wanted to collaborate with him. In fact, over the past couple of years, DJ Scheme has promised fans an X by Juice collab, noting that it does exist and that it could be released in the not-so-distant future.

Last night, X’s Instagram account surprised fans with an image of Juice and X’s faces stitched together. As you can imagine, this immediately led to speculation that a collab album is on the horizon. Both artists have had their fair share of posthumous releases, and this would be another one, for better or for worse.

There was no caption to give any sort of indication that something is on the way, however, as you can imagine, the internet is already in full theory mode. With that being said, stay tuned to HNHH as we will be sure to bring you updates on this developing story.

Jack Harlow Previews New Banger Featuring Iconic Fergie Sample

Jack Harlow has become a huge superstar over the last year thanks to some very solid singles that have been reaching the top of the charts. Harlow is quickly becoming a trusted hitmaker in hip-hop, and if he were to continue on this trajectory, then he will reach a territory that very few have ever been able to occupy.

With that being said, fans are always eager to hear some brand new tracks, and Harlow is always looking to please. While he didn’t drop anything for new music Friday, he did make sure to come through with a snippet for our listening pleasure, and it can be heard down below.

As you will see, the clip is only 13 seconds long and it features Harlow dancing around his studio to a song that samples Fergie’s hit track “Glamorous.” Harlow’s flow on the track is pretty catchy, and by the looks of things, this could be yet another chart-topper if he releases it at the right time. 

At this point, there is no indication as to when this song will come out, however, perhaps fans can expect it on Jack’s upcoming album, which is set to drop on May 6th. Stay tuned to HNHH as we will be sure to bring you all of the latest news and updates from around the hip-hop world.
