Toosii Brings His Signature Melding Of R&B & Trap On “JADED”

Toosii is an underrated master of nailing catchy melodies in the R&B/trap space. Granted, it might be because he’s only been in the industry for about four years. But overall, he’s someone you are going to want to stay tapped into moving into the rest of the 2020s decade. He’s got some elements of Gunna and Bryson Tiller, so if you are into those artists, that’s another reason to check out what he’s got cooking. Speaking of which Toosii is cheffing up those exact vibes on his newest album, JADED. This follows up his June 2023 offering NAUJOUR, which is led by his most popular song to date, “Favorite Song”.

Across JADED, you are getting nonchalant Toosii that’s pushing any sort of feelings (especially of true love) down. Yes, there are some love cuts within the 13-songs. However, they are more about lust and sneaky links. Most of the time, the Raleigh, North Carolina native is rapping about reaching his own goals and living lavishly. “Champs Elysees”, one of the lead-off tracks featuring Gunna, is an example of this. Speaking of singles, “Fuk You Mean” is the only other song to have been released prior to JADED. There are some duds in the tracklist such as “She Doesn’t Mind”. But for the most part, Toosii does have more W’s than L’s here. Give it a try with the links below to see how you’re vibing with it.

Jordan Ward & Joony Ruminate On Love On New EP “JRNY”

After bursting onto the scene with his 2023 sophomore album FORWARD, St. Louis singer Jordan Ward has solidified himself as a player in the future of R&B. The album received praise from critics and fans alike. Fans who heard the album thought it had an outside shot at winning the crowded “Best Progressive R&B Album” category at the most recent Grammy Awards. Unfortunately, it did not receive a nomination. It got so much love that he earned a co-sign from SZA, the woman who did eventually win in that category. SZA is the biggest name in R&B today and one of the most acclaimed artists of her generation. Needless to say, that is a high honor. “IDC,” the second track on FORWARD, featured a verse from Maryland rapper Joony, also a budding name. Now, the two are further exploring their musical chemistry on JRNY, their new extended play and first project together.

The two mull over the difficulties of love, a recurring theme on Jordan Ward’s previous album. He sings about infidelity, jealous partners, and other aspects of heartbreak. The production is varied, and both he and Joony sound at home over it. They really do work well together, as they take different approaches to similar subject matter. Ward with his singing and Joony with his bars. Jordan Ward even does a bit of rapping on the last track, showing off his versatility as an artist and reaffirming why people thought so highly of FORWARD. At six songs and only 13 minutes, it does not overstay its welcome, and even if you are not previously familiar with Jordan Ward or Joony, this should still be on your radar. Stream the new offering from the duo below.

Childish Gambino Cancels Tour Over Health Issue Requiring Surgery

Today, Childish Gambino took to Twitter/X to announce that the remainder of his North American, European, and UK tour dates have been canceled. The performer explained to his followers that he’s been dealing with an unspecified health issue, which he sought a professional opinion on in Houston earlier this week. Unfortunately, he learned that the issue was serious enough that he had to cancel that night’s show. Upon further analysis, he realized he wouldn’t be able to complete the rest of the tour.

“After my show in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston to make sure of an ailment that had become apparent,” he wrote. “After being assesed, it became clear i would not perform that night, and after more tests, i could not perform the rest of the US tour in the time asked. As of now I have surgery scheduled and need time out to heal.

Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase. I want nothing more than to bring this show to the fans and perform. Until then, thanks for love, privacy, and support.” Fans are wishing the hitmaker a speedy recovery, and commending him for putting his health first.

Childish Gambino’s announcement arrived just a few weeks after he postponed the remainder of the tour. That week, he told the Wall Street Journal that fans would get the “best live show” they’d ever seen. He even promised their money back if it didn’t live up to their expectations. Kendrick Lamar Officially Submits “Not Like Us” For Grammys 2025 Consideration

Grammys season is upon us, and we already have a list of artists who have submitted their work for consideration at the 2025 awards ceremony. There’s Nicki Minaj with her Pink Friday 2 efforts, Beyoncé with COWBOY CARTER, Megan Thee Stallion’s MEGAN era, Doja Cat with Scarlet 2 CLAUDE… and Kendrick Lamar off of the strength of his sheer “biggest hater” title. Moreover, he submitted “Not Like Us” – and “Like That” alongside Future and Metro Boomin – for multiple categories, including Record/Song of the Year and Best Rap Song/Performance. In the case of the West Coast banger, it’s also up for Best Music Video.

With all that said, someone go hand him a Grammy right now! The Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef remains a very relevant discussion in hip-hop, even if the details these days comprise of petty IG unfollows, chart records, and a whole lot of new album speculation. It’s clear that we’ve moved on from the possibility of a Round 2 (or have we?), and that K.Dot will likely focus on other wider endeavors for his next moves and efforts.

Kendrick Lamar Opens His Mouth

After all, he has a Super Bowl halftime show performance to think about, too. Back to these awards, let’s clarify these Grammys submissions real quick. These aren’t nominations: think of it as a play-in tournament where committees pick between artists’ submissions and decide on the final roster of nominees, which they then deliberate over and vote on to pick a winner. We can’t help but wonder what OVO goons would prefer: a golden gramophone-less night for Kendrick Lamar whether in the nomination or award sense, or a win for him so they can call Drake a prophet for that one “Family Matters” line?

Either way, we’re hesitant to call this Kendrick Lamar’s final victory lap, only because that’s what many folks said about The Pop Out, the “Not Like Us” music video… You get it. Maybe he even sneaks a Drake jab into his upcoming movie. But whether or not this feud is finally over or still has legs, it’s undeniable that the merits of both “Not Like Us” and “Like That” are worthy of the Grammys’ praise far beyond its fighting words.

Victoria Monet Showcases Her Provocative & Lovey Side With The Deluxe Of “JAGUAR II”

It’s been quite a whirlwind of a year for the Sacramento, California raised singer and songwriter Victoria Monet. Just prior to dropping JAGUAR II, her long-awaited follow-up to it’s 2020 counterpart, it felt like she was on the cusp of really breaking out. It’s safe to say that became a reality, as the project went on to take home three GRAMMY awards (Best New Artist, R&B Album, and Engineered Album, Non-Classical). Unfortunately, those major wins have been followed up by painful loss. She has recently been dealing with a painful breakup from boyfriend and father to her daughter, John Gaines.

She expressed her emotions beautifully in a recent statement, saying how it’s essentially been a struggle but not messy by any means. Still, she’s making sure they are both moving on from each other in a healthy manner. Making music for most artist’s is a great way to escape from the stresses, and Victoria Monet dropping the deluxe of JAGUAR II could help her too. It may not be one of the reasons, but it does drop at an opportune time for her. It’s also here because of the incredible success of the original 11-song set. Monet has 10 new songs to share, including some older cuts such as “SOS” with USHER and “We Might Even Be Falling In Love (Duet)” with Bryson Tiller. Both highlight how in tune she is with her sexual and sensual side, as she leans into full erotica and super cuddly moments as well.

Benzino’s Reaction To Eminem Becoming A Grandfather Cleverly Turns His Rival’s Words On Him

Benzino is a legend in the hip-hop culture. So, is “Luka & Kyrie” rapper Eminem. But, their longstanding feud is even more iconic. For years, the duo have gone back-and-forth in song and online. However, fans will be pleased to know that their tension will not impact their children (Uproxx cover star Coi Leray and Hailie Jade).

After Eminem announced that he would soon be a grandfather, courtesy of Hailie, like the world Benzino shared his reaction to the news. But, instead of taking a jab at his forever foe, he congratulated him in an Instagram live broadcast (viewable here).

“Somebody found out that they’re going to be a grandfather,” he said. “And irony is even though he said, ‘Nobody wants to hear their grandfather rap’ [a reference to the hook from Em’s Benzino diss song, “Nail In The Coffin”], I still wanna send out a congratulations to Eminem and his daughter Hailie on the news that she is about to give birth, and he’s about to be a grandad. I think this is a good time to put this behind us and let’s try to enjoy life and try to make some type of statement right now. I’m not doing this for no joke. I truly want to congratulate him and his daughter.”

He then continued, saying: “I’m not one yet, but I’m sure that day will come, and I’ll be proud just like he is. With all the craziness that’s going on, we need some peace, we need a statement so we can move forward. There it is. Congratulations to Eminem and Hailie, and let me know what the baby’s gonna be ’cause I definitely will send a gift for the baby shower, man. I’m sure you’ll make a great-grandfather. Love, bro.”

Lil Durk Praised By His “Power Book II: Ghost” Co-Star After Fans Tried To Clown Him

Lil Durk recently appeared in the series finale of Power Book II: Ghost as his acting debut, and while some fans clowned him, others cheer. One of those supporters is his co-star LeToya Tonodeo (who played Diana Tejada in the 50 Cent-produced television show), who recently spoke to TMZ about Durk’s chops. “I thought he killed it!” she shared. “And I hope he keeps going with it. Like, you know, it’s the series finale… *sighs* it’s coming to an end. At least Power Book II: Ghost.

“But you know what they say, power never ends,” LeToya Tonodeo continued. “So we shall see. […] I think [Lil Durk has a magical quality]. I think so, I mean, he was dope to work with. Super cool, super chill. Yeah, I hope he keeps it going. I hope [we’ll see a lot of him in the future in Hollywood]. I hope so. You’d have to ask him, but in my opinion, I hope so.” As such, we imagine that Smurk feels pretty amazing about his acting debut despite some fans’ jokes. Who knows whether he’ll be the next breakout drama star, an action hero, or a comedic hit?

Elsewhere in Lil Durk’s world, he recently announced his new album Deep Thoughts, but fans are already pretty busy with his next moves. After all, it wasn’t too long ago that he revealed the tracklist for another project, Love Songs 4 The Streets 3. The record has Rod Wave on as both a feature and executive producer, with other guests including Future, Lil Baby, Morgan Wallen, Sabrina Carpenter, iShowSpeed, and Kai Cenat. It sounds like quite the eclectic mix, but we’ll see how it follows up or maybe even previews Deep Thoughts.

Meanwhile, the “Monitoring Me” spitter has a lot of options ahead of him. He’s always been a prolific musical artist, so maybe venturing more into the worlds of film and TV could either inspire more measured material or result in a lot of quick drops. Lil Durk has these two projects seemingly ready to go (Deep Thoughts drops on October 18) and seems like he might be busier than ever with a growing entertainment profile. The future is bright. Leon Bridges Pours His Heart & Soul Into Self-Titled “Leon” LP

If you have a fondness for 60s era soul, then you may want to check out what Leon Bridges in bringing on his latest effort, Leon. The Columbia records signee from Fort Worth, Texas is giving audiences a heavy dosage of that, as well as some hints of country, gospel, and R&B. Across the 13-song project, you are getting a lot of mellow and soft instrumentation. Summer may be over, but this album’s soundscape has us daydreaming about those perfect temperature evenings while you take a ride in a 60s convertible around the coast. Right from the opening track, “When a Man Cries”, you can tell just how much love and emotion went into creating Leon.

Part of the reason for that is because Leon Bridges says this album has a lot of personal weight for him. In statement, he explains, “In many ways, Leon has been in the works since my childhood. This record is about simpler days. It’s about time spent in my beloved Fort Worth and the experiences that made me the man I am today. It’s soulful music in the truest sense; it’s imbued with my soul.” Moreover, he says that the style you are hearing on the record is something that he felt needed to be expanded upon and seen further. Leon had been working on this self-titled endeavor since his last record, 2021’s Gold-Diggers Sound. “They didn’t fit what I was trying to do with that album, and I tried moving on. But I couldn’t shake them because they’re part of me. And, if I’m honest, also because I think this is some of my most excellent work yet.” We certainly agree and it’s why you need to spin this immediately.
