Nicki Minaj And Lil Wayne Releasing Albums On The Same Day Next Month

It has just dawned on fans that November 17 is going to be a very busy day for music as 2 Chainz & Lil Wayne drop Welcome 2 ColleGrove and Nicki Minaj releases Pink Friday 2. Both albums, which are slated to be some of the biggest releases of the year, will be available on the third Friday of November. Furthermore, that means there will be a lot of music news over the next few weeks. This is because both projects still remain fairly in the shadows.

Nicki has dropped a few tracks for her project, namely “Super Freaky Girl” and “Last Time I Saw You”. However, she also released “Bahm Bahm”. The well-received track was confirmed to be a single that didn’t make the cut for the final tracklist. Meanwhile, Chainz & Wayne recently dropped “Presha”, the first single they’ve released ahead of Welcome 2 ColleGrove. Do you have a preference on the November 17 releases? Let us know in the comments.

Furthermore, 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne gave their first performance of “Presha” during an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. It’s the first single from Welcome 2 ColleGrove to drop ahead of the album release next month. The veteran rappers tore up the New York studio to the delight of the audience, and Jimmy Fallon. Has “Presha” gotten you hyped for the full album? Let us know.

While we still don’t know a whole lot about the album, the pair are very excited about it. Additionally, they have revealed that they have gone all-in on making it one of the albums of the year. “We have two videos shot, photoshoot shot, (the) album’s mixed and getting mastered. So it’ll be coming sooner than later, and I’m really excited about it. It’s rapping at a high level — steel sharpens steel. And he’s one of the people that I enjoy working with the most,” Chainz said back in September.

Young Money Crowned “Most Dominant” Rap Label Based On Billboard Chart Figures

Hip Hop All Day has crowned Young Money as the most dominant rap label, based on its artists’ cumulative figures on the Billboard Hot 100. Drake leads the way with 5,770 weeks, followed by Lil Wayne at 2671. Furthermore, Nicki Minaj has 1869. Combined, the three Young Money artists have 10,310 weeks or 197.7 years on the Billboard charts.

Only three other rappers have over 2000 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 – Eminem (3029), Kanye West (2327), and Future (2019). Meanwhile, a handful of other artists join Minaj in having at least 1500 weeks on the charts. They are, Jay-Z (1942), Kendrick Lamar (1700), and Lil Baby (1573). Furthermore, Hip Hop All Day charted artists to everyone with over 1000 weeks on the chart. The rest of list is rounded out by J.Cole, Travis Scott, Tupac, Ludacris, Juice WRLD, Lil Uzi Vert, Snoop Dogg, 21 Savage, T.I., and NBA YoungBoy.

Birdman Predicts Young Money Concert Would Be Huge

However, it’s not the first time in recent weeks that people have testified to the power of Young Money. “So you know with Nicki and Drake, that shit about $15-20million a show,” Birdman stated. “Big facts. A lot of [money on the table]. $4-5million a show. We’ve been offered about $4-5million a show. That’s without Drake and Nicki,” Birdman told The 85 South Show last month. Of course, it’s been over a decade since Young Money performed and the three anchors of the label have gone on to do wildly different. But where there’s hope, there’s a chance.

Of course, all three have major releases that either just dropped or will drop very soon. Wayne just released “Kat Food”, one of several singles he’s put out over the last few months. It’s unclear if he’s building towards an album but still, new music is always great. Meanwhile, Drake and Nicki are both building toward album releases. Drake will drop For All The Dogs very soon, at least according to Drizzy himself. Meanwhile, Nicki has Pink Friday 2 on the way later this year. With these major releases on the way, that chart dominance of Young Money will only grow.

Birdman Believes A Drake, Nicki Minaj & Lil Wayne Show Would Net Them $20 Million

Birdman’s very proud of all of his alumni of Cash Money and Young Money, but when those label names come up, there’s a particular trio that immediately comes to mind. Moreover, the rapper and executive recently reflected on how much Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Lil Wayne could make if they did a show together. After all, it’s been a long time (almost a year, and almost a decade before that) since they shared the stage for a performance. Considering the legendary status that they all reached in the game, people would pay a lot of money to see such spectacle. Baby knows this, and told The 85 South Comedy Show podcast just how much a potential show could net the iconic trifecta.

“So you know with Nicki and Drake, that s**t about $15-20million a show,” Birdman stated. “Big facts. A lot of [money on the table]. $4-5million a show. We’ve been offered about $4-5million a show. That’s without Drake and Nicki.” Of course, it’s unsurprising that Lil Wayne alone would be worth so much for a concert. However, his remarks open up the possibility that a Young Money reunion show (or tour, hopefully) would be a massive moment for the culture.

Birdman Speaks On Money-Making Potential Of Drake, Nicki Minaj & Lil Wayne Show

Still, we do have to recognize that Young Money is no longer what it was, with each artist going on to shape their own careers. Sure, Weezy still commits to his label artists and Nicki Minaj remains on Young Money, but Drake moved onto OVO and Republic, which Nicki also partnered with. Regardless, Drizzy’s still loyal to Birdman, Cash Money, and Young Money. “I’m always going to be involved in the Cash Money/Young Money imprint,” he told Rap Radar in 2019. “And my loyalty, like I said, always lies there.”

Meanwhile, the last time the three performed together was at the 6 God’s October World Weekend festival in August of 2022. It was the first time they did so in nearly ten years, and it made for an electrifying moment. With Pink Friday 2, For All The Dogs, and Tha Carter VI on the way, hopefully they can reunite on wax, too. If not, they have that $20 million show to wager on. Lil Wayne & Skip Bayless Hint At The Future Of “Undisputed”

Recently, Lil Wayne and Skip Bayless once again reminded fans of their friendship when the latter visited the former’s home. “Ernestine [his wife] and I just got back from spending a sun-blessed LA Saturday afternoon at Lil Wayne’s,” the sports commentator captioned an Instagram picture. “4 hours of the best conversation 3 humans could hope to have- on music, sports and life. Deep thoughts punctuated by big laughs. Love you, man.” However, it seems like that event actually put larger things in motion. Moreover, Bayless recounted the meet-up during the latest episode of The Skip Bayless Show with some interesting hints on Thursday (June 29).

“Wayne will be involved more than ever in Undisputed going forward,” Skip Bayless expressed on air. “So will Young Money. I love you, man. And I thank you for yet another very memorable Saturday. The connection here is my wife, Ernestine, and I are endlessly fascinated by [Lil] Wayne’s gift for recording and performing. Just as I believe he is unquenchably intrigued by behind-the-scenes at Undisputed. Other than Ernestine, I don’t know anybody, any human, that watches more Undisputed, for that matter, more FS1 than Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. does. I’m pretty sure he never misses an Undisputed.”

Skip Bayless Visiting Lil Wayne

Of course, this is promising because Skip Bayless is still looking for an Undisputed cohost following Shannon Sharpe’s departure. After all, Lil Wayne actually filled in as a special guest-slash-substitute host to talk with Skip. Still, it seems relatively unlikely given how much time Tunechi dedicates to his music craft and how busy he could be with festivals, interviews, and more. That being said, it would definitely give rap fans who don’t watch Undisputed a reason to tune in, and would most likely raise the show’s already high profile.

Meanwhile, Weezy continues to be one of the most acclaimed, awarded, and sought-after artists in the game. Recently, reports surfaced indicating that BMI will grace him with the Icon Award in celebration of hip-hop’s 50th anniversary. The BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards will take place on September 6, and we’ll see if this is the only honor he wins for the rest of the year. Many might not agree, but a larger seat on Undisputed would certainly be an honor in his eyes. Regardless, keep checking in with HNHH for the latest news and updates on Skip Bayless and Lil Wayne.

Nicki Minaj Pens Heartfelt Message To Lil Wayne After He Calls Her The Greatest Female Rapper Ever

Earlier this year, Billboard named Nicki Minaj the greatest female rapper of all time, sitting at #10 on their top 50 list – the highest ranking of any woman in hip-hop. Some might consider it blasphemous but Nicki Minaj’s mentor, Lil Wayne, certainly believes that Billboard got it right. During a recent interview on All The Smoke, co-hosts Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson asked Weezy who he believes the greatest female rapper of all time is. “Ain’t nobody f***ing with Nicki,” he said. “They come after.”

His comments aren’t necessarily shocking, especially since his faith in Nicki’s talents helped catapult her to the top. Naturally, the Queen rapper responded on Instagram where she shared several other clips from the interview, including one where Wayne explained discovering her and Drake. “I also didn’t know they would be Drake and Nicki, like I didn’t know that. But I was more excited, I wanted them to see what they could be. They always leaned on that — they always leaned on my confidence I instilled in them,” he said.

During the interview, Lil Wayne detailed discovering Nicki Minaj as he was building the Young Money roster. He explained that he specifically wanted a female rapper from New York who didn’t sound like Lil Kim or Foxy Brown. “And when I heard, Nicki was sounding like me. She was changing her voice up, I was like, ‘Okay.’ Like, I ain’t never seen this. This rare. New York female artists, I had to keep telling ’em, ‘Yo, don’t do that, don’t say that,’” he explained. How Drake’s “Thank Me Later” Became A Classic

It’s been 13 years since Drake released his debut studio album, Thank Me Later. Surprisingly enough, Drake’s path to fame didn’t come from music. The Toronto kid initially garnered fame as an actor, appearing as Jimmy Brooks on the show Degrassi: The Next Generation. When he wasn’t acting, Drake was curating mixtapes hoping to make it into the music industry. However, it wasn’t until So Far Gone that he garnered significant attention. Soon after, the mixtape’s success would catch Lil Wayne’s eye. The project was the big break that Drake needed to move on from acting, as he signed with Young Money Entertainment in 2009. He had suddenly gone from acting in a Canadian teen drama television series to curating hit songs with Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, and Chris Brown.

Deal With Young Money

After signing with Young Money Entertainment, Drake got to work on his debut studio album, Thank Me Later. Even though it was his debut LP, the Toronto MC didn’t play it safe on the record. Expanding on the sonic tropes of his previous mixtapes, Drake would sing more than ever on Thank Me Later, curating a project that blended the worlds of hip-hop and R&B. “Find Your Love” is the latter, with Drake romantically repeating, “I better find your loving.” It’s reflected in the star-studded lineup, featuring the likes of Alicia Keys, Nicki Minaj, T.I., and (of course) Lil Wayne.

Drake Address Fame On Thank Me Later

To put it plainly, many artists struggled to back up the success of their debut mixtapes or full-length albums in the late 2000s to early 2010s. In a genre saturated with one-hit wonders, the pressure was on Drizzy to deliver a satisfactory project to keep his fans around. Thank Me Later would do so with flying colors. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts and went certified Platinum. However, over a decade later, the project’s relevance proves that the record represents something far more than a number machine.

On Thank Me Later, Drake fully engrained himself into the world of paparazzi and flashing lights. He doesn’t shy away from illustrating his wild lifestyle, saying “I” 410 times throughout the hour-long project. However, he’s interesting enough not to come off as overtly egotistical or self-indulgent. In fact, he addresses the two sides of fame, admitting that: “I wish I wasn’t famous / I wish I was still in school / So I could have you in my dorm room / I would put it on you crazy.” Is this true? Absolutely not. From his languish Toronto house to his six-figure outfits, he’s always been one to embrace his fame. However, the aura he creates on Thank Me Later is exhilarating to get behind.

Thank Me Later Opened Up The Hip-Hop Genre

Thank Me Later features a combination of hits and deep cuts. To this day, “Over” is widely held as one of the best tracks in his discography. However, it’s certainly not Drake’s greatest project. The beats occasionally come off as wallpaper, while his singing doesn’t match his vocal performances on Nothing Was The Same. That said, the record lays out an intricate mapping for the direction of rap over the next decade. The success of the record’s R&B tracks reinforced in Drizzy that he could succeed while taking risks. While surrounded by rap purists, he wouldn’t have to fit into that mold throughout his career. In fact, Thank Me Later would inspire a slew of future-generation artists to mix rapping and singing.

Drake has come out and been coy about his thoughts on Thank Me Later. In an interview with TIDAL’s Rap Radar Podcast, he admitted he was in an “artist that just got signed mode” on the project. “I think I felt a lot of pressure to prove that I knew big, famous people. I still love it as part of my story. But it was definitely the project that maybe had the least personal touches. It was really kind of about ‘How big we can look?’” While Drake may not view the record as a classic, that sense of needing to make it big that he denounces resonated deeply with rap audiences. It’s transcended Thank Me Later into a project played at end-of-school-year parties or leading up to a senior-year basketball game. It’s why Thank Me Later remains relevant 13 years later.
