Ice Spice Reveals What Inspired Her Upcoming Album “Y2K”

Earlier this week, Ice Spice unveiled her newest track “Gimmie A Light” alongside a smoke-filled accompanying music video. The Sean Paul-sampling single has since garnered mixed reactions from fans. While some think it’s sure to be the song of the summer, others believe that her signature sound needs a revamp. With that being said, there’s much more on the way from the Bronx-born performer, who’s currently in the process of readying her new album Y2K.

Ice Spice has been teasing the project for months now, giving fans a taste of what’s to come with various singles. She’s yet to confirm an official release date. In a recent conversation with Zane Lowe for Apple Music’s New Music Daily, she opened up about some of the things that inspired her upcoming debut. According to her, it all goes back to her upbringing.

Ice Spice Says Her Mother’s Aesthetic Is Her Inspiration

“Thankfully, I had my mom, so growing up I’d see her really embody the Y2K aesthetic in its truest form,” she explained. “It’s duck nails, it’s a tramp stamp. It’s brown lip liner no matter where you go. So thankfully I had her as my inspo growing up.” She then went on to discuss how she chose the title of the project, describing how after coming up with countless different ideas, she ultimately opted to keep it short and sweet.

“I have a book full of pages of album names and different ideas, and I just really find the beauty and simplicity,” she said, “I was just like, ‘You know what? I want it to be short, I don’t want it to be this super long phrase.’” What do you think of Ice Spice revealing some of the things that inspired her upcoming album, Y2K? Ice Spice Threatens Latto On Relentlessly Teased Single “Gimmie A Light”

Ice Spice has truly reached incredible heights over the last year or so. When most people heard “Munch (Feelin’ U)” for the first time, there was a strong feeling that she was bound to be a one-hit wonder. Then she came back with “Bikini Bottom,” but some were still not convinced. It seemed like when “In Ha Mood” dropped in January of last year that was when she began to turn a corner. All of those viral singles culminated into her debut project Like..?

Grabbing features from Nicki Minaj and Lil Tjay showed that she had the backing, and now Ice Spice is everywhere. From the brand deals, to performing on the biggest stages, and her massive features, she is here to stay. Ever since she announced her debut album Y2K! her fans have been begging for it drop. Ice Spice has been working towards it with the controversial “Think U The S*** (Fart),” and now “Gimmie A Light.” This track was first teased at Coachella earlier this year and a lot of people were dissecting particular bars from it.

Like, why would I beef with a flop? (Grrah) / Like let’s talk drill (Grrah) / Who bigger than she? (Like) / Who prettier too? (Like) / Two-fifty to get in the booth (Damn).” These are seemingly direct shots at Latto, who has been showing her disdain for her fellow femcee for some time, especially on “Sunday Service.” This second single for Y2K! sees Ice Spice sample a 2000’s Sean Paul classic “Gimme the Light.” RIOTUSA, her wingman, slow down the lyrics, before Spice hops in raps with aggression in a higher register. This track might not be as popular as “Think U The S***,” but it is a solid track for the album.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single “Gimmie A Light” by Ice Spice? Where does this track rank amongst the rest of the singles for Y2K!? How do you feel about her sampling Sean Paul’s “Gimme the Light?” Do you think this album will be worth the hype? Quotable Lyrics:

Big knock, like I’m not a fighter (Grrah)
Big Ice, I don’t need a writer (Like)
Her man callin’ me baby (Grrah)
I’m Miss Poopie like I need a diaper (Grrah)
Watch your mouth ’cause my b**** get scrappy (Scrappy)
F*** you mean, b****? It never gave tacky (What?)

Ice Spice Appears To Take More Shots At Latto On New Single “Gimmie A Light”

Ice Spice is gearing up to drop a new project this year called Y2K. As it stands, this project does not have a release date. However, fans are still very much excited about the album as it will be her debut. So far, we have gotten singles like “Think U The Shit (Fart).” This song is particular was quite polarizing, although that has been the case for Spice’s entire career thus far. On Friday, she came through with yet another new effort. This time, the song was called “Gimmie A Light” and it features a sample from Sean Paul.

Overall, the song has elicited more polarizing responses. Some feel as though that Ice Spice has been repeating the same sound since 2022. Meanwhile, others simply don’t think the bars hold up. Either way, Spice is in a difficult position right now, and there is no telling whether or not she will be able to break out of her current sound. Throughout all of this, Spice has had an ongoing feud with Latto. In fact, on this most recent track, it would appear as though the artist may have taken yet another swipe at her rival.

Ice Spice With A New Release

“I don’t got any opps — like why would I beef with a flop? (Grah)” Spice raps on the track. There is no telling whether or not this bar is truly directed at Latto. However, context clues seem to point to that. At this point, the two may just level some diss tracks at each other. 2024 has been the year of rap beef, and it seems like Drake and Kendrick Lamar have inspired artists from all corners of the earth. Only time will tell whether or not Latto responds.

Ice Spice Sets The ‘Y2K’ Vibes With Her New Single, ‘Gimmie A Light’

Ice Spice is back! Earlier this year, the Bronx native announced she is gearing up to release her hotly anticipated debut album, Y2K. Tonight (May 10), she has finally shared some new music. Her newest single, “Gimmie A Light,” offers some early aughts nostalgia.

“Gimmie A Light” features a sample of Jamaican dancehall artist Sean Paul’s 2002 hit, “Gimme The Light” — an ode to dancefloors and weed. Ice’s single comprises of the same energy, with a bit of a modern twist.

“Hot boxin’ the V, like, give me a light / Fat ass so the pants fit tight / Took her man, I’m gettin’ him right / Big knock, like, why would I fight?,” Ice raps on the song’s chorus.

Over the past year, Ice has been rumored to be in a beef with fellow rapper Latto. Back in January, Ice released “Think U The Sh*t (Fart) which was thought to be aimed at Latto, to which Latto replied with “Sunday Service,” the video for which was filmed in Latto’s old neighborhood.

But now, it appears Ice isn’t fazed by any rumored feuds. Elsewhere in the song, Ice raps “No, I don’t got any opps / Like, why would I beef with a flop?”

Is Ice Spice’s Debut Album ‘Y2K’ Done?

For the past 18 months, Bronx rapper Ice Spice has been a fixture of popular culture. Breaking out with her single “Munch (Feelin’ U)” in the summer of 2022 on wave of social media goodwill, the 24-year-old artist has parlayed her TikTok popularity into a flourishing career. She’s collaborated with some of the biggest artists in music, including Doja Cat, Nicki Minaj, and Taylor Swift, starred in Super Bowl ads, and grown in both skill and stature, all while driving discourse about her supposed lack of talent — which only makes her bigger.

She’s done all this without putting an album out, by the way.

So, naturally, the question on a lot of interested parties’ minds is: when will Ice Spice put out her debut album? While she did feed fans a project last year — the EP Like..? — both her fans and detractors are waiting impatiently for her to release a full-length project. Both may soon get their wish, as she announced the title for her debut, Y2K, and her intention to release it this year. After months of teasing, she shared some good news on social media today: she’s finished recording Y2K.

Does that mean the album is done though?

I guess that depends on what you mean by “done.” If you mean “in a state that is fit for public consumption” the answer is most likely “no.” After all, while Ice might be finished performing her raps into a microphone in a studio booth, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the songs themselves won’t go through multiple revisions, from beat changes to adding guests and live instrumentation, depending on Ice’s vision. From there, the recorded tracks will have to be mixed and mastered — meaning that the sound levels of everything from ad-libs to hi-hats will have to be adjusted and matched from song-to-song across the project.

Then there’s marketing and rollout to consider. Which songs will be singles? Are the music videos and single packaging shot and edited yet? Will there be any corporate tie-ins with the release? Almost certainly in today’s climate, when brand partnerships are an integral part of the business. So, while Y2K is probably in the pipeline, it could be months until we actually hear it. But hey, a slow-roasted meal nearly always tastes better than one from the microwave. A little patience goes a long way, and hopefully, in the case of Ice Spice’s album, it’ll pay off.

Ice Spice Delivers Massive Update On Her Debut Album

Ice Spice is easily one of the biggest newcomers in all of hip-hop. Overall, she has been able to work with some of the biggest artists on the planet. Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift have all given her co-signs. Moreover, she has been hanging out with Lana Del Rey, which just showcases how powerful her rise has been. Moving forward, fans are eager to hear what she has in store. Sure, she came out with some huge singles, but fans want to hear a whole album. They got an EP, and now, they want the LP.

Over the past few weeks, Spice has been teasing that such a project would be on the horizon. For instance, she revealed that her debut album would be out in the next few months. Furthermore, she said the album would be called Y2K. It is an appropriate album title given the fact that she was born on January 1st, 2000, the start of the millennium. Since that announcement, fans have been waiting for an update on the project. Just moments ago, they got one as Spice had a very simple message for her followers.

Ice Spice Is Dropping Soon

“I finished recording y2k the album,” she wrote on Instagram. It was a simple message, albeit one that was quite powerful. Now that the album is finished in the recording stage, it just has to be mixed and mastered. There will likely be some features added to spruce things up, but as it pertains to Spice’s vocals, the project is complete. Ice Spice has remained consistent with her sound up until this point, so we don’t foresee any massive changes. However, if she comes through with some surprises, then this could be one of the biggest releases of the entire year.

Let us know what you think of this announcement, in the comments section down below. What are your expectations for the album? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. We will always keep you informed on all of your favorite artists.

Ice Spice Shares Advice From Taylor Swift That She’ll “Never Forget”

Ice Spice says Taylor Swift shared a valuable piece of advice while they were in the studio together working on “Karma” and she’ll never forget it. Speaking with Billboard for a new interview, she revealed what wisdom the iconic singer imparted to her.

“When I was in the studio with Taylor, like, I’ll never forget that. She told me, ‘No matter what, just keep making music and everything’s going to be fine.,” Spice recalled. The two teamed up for “Karma” back in May 2023. In the time since, they performed at MetLife Stadium and attended Super Bowl LVIII together.

Elsewhere in the interview, Spice discussed working on her debut studio album, Y2K. When asked what she’s listening for as she puts the project together, she explained: “First, a really hard beat. If the beat doesn’t instantly move me — like if I don’t physically feel the beat of the speakers — then I’m just going to keep moving on to the next one. But as soon as I know, I know I have that beat. It’s up from there.” In that vein, she also admitted she didn’t expect “Boy’s a liar, Pt. 2” to be as big as it became. She also had more faith in “Actin a Smoochie.” Spice explained: “I thought that ‘Actin a Smoochie’ would be a bigger song. Every time I hear it, I’m just gagged that it’s not bigger. [But] ‘Boy’s a liar, Pt. 2,’ I never thought that song would be as big as it is. I knew it would be a big moment, but I didn’t think it would be triple-platinum.”

Ice Spice Debuts Retro Website, Fans Think Album Announcement Is Coming

Ice Spice has debuted an early 2000s-themed design for her official website. As a result, fans are now eagerly expecting news about Spice’s upcoming debut album, Y2K!. The line of logic is that Y2K as a concept is rooted in the year 2000 and that is the internet era that Spice has thrown back to with her website redesign. However, at the time of writing, the website redesign is the only hint that news about the album is coming.

Spice confirmed the album at the end of January while appearing on The Today Show. However, she did not specify a date and instead simply said that the album would be out “this year”. Spice was “born on Y2K” (New Year’s Day, 2000). Furthermore, Spice confirmed there would be plenty of collabs on the album, including one that she called “crazy” at the time of the interview. Who are you hoping to see on Y2K!? Let us know in the comments.

Ice Spice Gets Love From Barbz At Pink Friday 2 Tour Opening Night

Meanwhile, the Barbz were out for blood as Nicki Minaj opened her Pink Friday 2 tour in Oakland. Members of the audience heard chanting “F-ck Latto” at several points. The animosity towards Latto likely stems from her beef with Spice, who is considered a Minaj “ally” after several collabs between the two. Furthermore, Latto is considered a Cardi B “ally” after the pair collaborated on “Put It On Da Floor Again” last year.

Latto and Spice have been trading blows for the last few weeks. Spice released the diss track “Think You The Sh-t (Fart)” before going after Latto for using her music video footage in a TikTok. Meanwhile, Latto hit back with “Sunday Service” and also referred to Spice as a “little girl” in a clapback post on social media. Monica is the only act officially listed as supporting the tour. However, maybe Minaj will bring out Spice when she hits up New York at the end of March.

Last week, Ice Spice ended her brief musical hiatus with her new single, “Think U The Sh*t (Fart).” The song came just over a year after the New York City rapper‘s debut EP, Like…?. With a new single out, Ice’s fans, known as the munchkins, are anticipating her full-length debut album.

Today (January 30), during an interview on Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager’s hour of Today, Ice shared a few details of her upcoming album.

When asked if she had an album on the way, Ice responded “Yes, there’s gonna be an album.” She continued, revealing that the album would arrive “this year.”

“I’m so excited,” Ice said. “It’s called Y2K.”

The album’s title seemingly alludes to her birthday — January 1, 2000, which was also the New Year’s Day that coincided with the theory of a Y2K virus crashing all computers and electronic devices at the time.

Though Ice didn’t reveal an exact release date for Y2K, she shared that the album is “almost finished.” She also held back details of the album’s collaborators, but teased one that she is very happy about.

“I have a crazy collaboration that just got locked in, like two days ago,” Ice said.

Ice Spice Reveals Album Name & Release Timeline, Teases “Crazy” Collab

She dropped off an EP last year, however, that was the extent of her releases. Now, 2024 is here and fans want her to take that artistic leap forward.

Well, today, she made a massive announcement while on the Today Show. As you can see in the clip below, she announced that she has a new album coming this year called Y2K. Overall, this album name is actually quite near and dear to Spice’s heart. This is because she was born on January 1st, 2000. This was what is now known as Y2K when some thought the world would end. Spice is a true millennial baby, and now, she is looking to show the world that she can also be an album’s artist.
