Ice Spice Gets Mad, Then Gets Even With ‘Did It First’ Featuring Central Cee

Half UK drill, half Jersey club, Ice Spice’s new song is 100 percent her own. The Bronx baddie brings her drill sound full-circle with “Did It First,” teaming up with UK sensation Central Cee (sorry, shippers) to assert her trendsetter status. Over a propulsive, percussive beat, the two rappers trade verses detailing their anti-romantic shenanigans, which are best summed up in the hook. “If he’s cheatin’, I’m doin’ him worse,” Ice asserts. “No UNO, I hit the reverse / I ain’t trippin’, the grip in my purse / I don’t care, ’cause he did it first.”

“Did It First” is the latest single from Ice Spice’s upcoming debut album, Y2K!, which she first began teasing late last year. After dropping the Latto diss track, “Think U The Sh*t (Fart),” she revealed the album’s title in January, she said the album was complete in March, then followed up with “Gimmie A Light” in May.

So far, the only part of the album’s rollout that hasn’t worked was the reveal of the cover art, which fans questioned due to the placement of the title on a trash can. Still, Ice Spice shrugged off the bad vibes, then dropped a new single, “Phat Butt,” which helped her keep the attention firmly where it belongs — on the music.

You can watch the “Did It First” video above.

Y2K! will be out on July 26 via 10K Projects and Capitol Records.

Ice Spice Shows Love To Cash Cobain After He Hilariously Admits His XXL Freshman Freestyle Was “Ass”

Ice Spice showed some love to Cash Cobain after he admitted that his XXL Freshman freestyle was “ass” on X (formerly Twitter). Spice discussed the up-and-coming rapper during a recent interview with Bootleg Kev. “Cash really has my attention right now,” she said during the conversation. “I’ve been listening to him a lot. It’s really his time, so he’s mostly who I’m a fan of right now.” Spice will be touring with Cash for her Y2K! World Tour in promotion of her upcoming album. She also previously teamed up with Cash and Bay Swag for a remix of the song, “Fisherrr.”

XXL listed Cash among their freshman choices for the annual piece, earlier this month. Following his performance in the iconic freestyle, he took to X to write: “my xxl freestyle is ass and idgaf” as well as “i get more b*tches than all yall idc.”

Spice will be dropping her debut studio album, Y2K!, on July 26, 2024. During a recent interview with Zane Lowe, she explained how she decided on the inspiration for the aesthetic direction of the project. “Thankfully, I had my mom, so growing up I’d see her really embody the Y2K aesthetic in its truest form,” she explained, earlier this year. “It’s duck nails, it’s a tramp stamp. It’s brown lip liner no matter where you go. So thankfully I had her as my inspo growing up. And of course, just like the internet, you feel me? Just like anyone else.”

Azealia Banks Labels Ice Spice The “Antithesis” Of “Y2K” In Latest Criticism

Azealia Banks says “nothing” Ice Spice is doing to promote her new album is accurate to the Y2K aesthetic she’s trying to curate. She went on a scathing rant about the New York rapper’s album promo in a post on Instagram, on Tuesday, making Spice the latest of several artists Banks has slammed on social media in recent days.

“Somebody needs to tell @icespice Absolutely nothing about this aesthetically, performance wise, production wise is Y2K at all,” Banks began. “This is like VIM early Nicki Minaj pack weave sh*t. We need a new hair color and a new facial expression. Ice I love you clown but you should put the halt button, drop David lachapplle and re do this. Big butts and bbl bodies are the ANTIHESIS OF Y2K.” From there, she shared several images of artists she feels are more accurate to the era.

When The Neighborhood Talk shared the posts on Instagram, fans in the comments section agreed with the criticism. “She right,” one top comment reads. “I am Y2K. I remember when we thought the Motorola was gonna stop working because it couldn’t register 2000.” Another user writes: “As someone who was 13 in the year 2000… a lot of these girlies who were newborns honestly have no idea what Y2K is supposed to give… it’s true..” Others suggested Spice look to Lil Kim, Missy Elliott, Foxy Brown, and Eve for inspiration. Ice Spice Reveals Alternate “Y2K” Cover & Fans Are Split On Their Thoughts

Ice Spice is coming out with her new album Y2K very, very soon, and it looks like she’s got a few different ways to increase hype for it and deliver some notable art to fans. Moreover, she recently took to social media to share an alternate cover art to the original artwork, and it certainly has a lot of aesthetic similarities. For example, there’s still a heavy blue and green color scheme for the most part, city sights, and a general art style that harkens back to the 2000s… to absolutely no one’s surprise. However, on this new art, there are two Spices: one trapped in the train, and one towering over the NYC skyline with her OG orange curls, not the slick hair that she’s been rocking as of late.

Overall, there are plenty of differences that could make a fan prefer one over another, but also enough similarities that would have them disliking or praising both equally. Regardless, it’s a small but effective way to further tease Y2K and give fans a full preview of what the album will sound or feel like. Ice Spice has already hinted at the sonic direction with plenty of singles, most recently the rapid-flowing “Phat Butt.” But the visual aspects will surely prove crucial to the full-length record’s perception, as well.

Ice Spice’s New Cover For Y2K

Still, you might remember that the reception to the original Y2K cover art was pretty divisive. In fact, Ice Spice stepped in to defend the artwork online shortly after its reveal. “David LaChapelle is #Y2K!” she said of its creator. “soooo sweet + legendary he didn’t even charge me cus he f**ks wit a real b***h [lipstick mark emoji]. thank U for all the incredible art you’ve put out through the years this cover means everything to me [red heart emoji] & yes Y2K was placed on the trash can on purpose can u guess why?”

Meanwhile, as the Latto feud seems to heat up, we might get even more of a promotional push for Ice Spice’s Y2K. Whether this works out in either femcee’s favor or not, there’s certainly a lot of interest in determining whether we’ll see a back and forth. Maybe they will just continue their not-so-cold war without getting in each other’s way too much. Or maybe this alternate cover will be part of one of the shots that they trade.

Ice Spice’s Boastful ‘Phat Butt’ Video Flexes Both Her Bars And Body

Pull those pants up. Bronx rapper Ice Spice continues her Y2K! rollout with the tough-talking “Phat Butt” video. As always, the new song is produced by Ice’s long-running collaborator RiotUSA, who offers a video gamey beat that gives the rapper plenty of room to stretch her lyrical muscles. Among her boasts on track are reminders of her recent success (“We came from the four line to four times Grammy nominated”) and, of course, flexes about her attention-grabbing physique (“Fat butt pull my pants up / Shakin’ ass got my bands up”).

“Phat Butt” is the third single from Ice Spice’s upcoming debut album Y2K!, following “Think U the Sh*t (Fart)” and “Gimmie A Light.” While none has reached the heights of the four hit singles she references in the lyrics to “Phat Butt” (“Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2” with PinkPantheress, “Karma” by Taylor Swift, and “Princess Diana” and “Barbie World” with Nicki Minaj), fans continue to look forward to the debut. Ice confirmed its July 26 release date after months of teasing, then announced her headlining tour with Cash Cobain earlier this month, following up with a defense of the album cover after fans maligned it online.

Ice Spice Switches Up Her Sound On “Phat Butt” And Fans Can’t Help But Hear Nicki Minaj

Ice Spice is an artist who blew up very fast. Overall, this was thanks to her song “Munch” which launched during the Fall of 2022. However, when you become a massive artist in a short amount of time, there can be some growing pains. Luckily, Spice had a strong debut EP. Moreover, she got co-signs and features from the likes of Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift. As for the rollout to her new album Y2K, there have been a few missteps.

Songs like “Gimme A Light” and “Think U The Shit (Fart)” have not been the hits fans were hoping for. Moreover, her album art from David LaChapelle left a lot to be desired. However, it seems as though her fortunes might be changing. This is all thanks to the new song “Phat Butt” which is meant to be the intro track on Y2K. Ice Spice is giving us a new sound on the track, and it has been getting quite a bit of praise. Although, some believe this might be because of the song’s similarities to Nicki Minaj.

Ice Spice Drops “Phat Butt”

“Definitely chewing on “Chi-Raq” flow with some “Shanghai” realness and I can’t even be mad. This sounds good,” one fan wrote. “why we hating on spice when she is constantly giving nicki her flowers and blatantly showing that nicki is her inspiration is beyond me.. she literally had a princess chain, she embraced the title yet yall wanna hate so bad no matter what she do,” said another. Many of the commenters were making references to “Chi-Raq,” a song that Nicki did with G-Herbo. Ultimately, this Nicki inspiration seems to have breathed new life into Spice’s sound. Hopefully, she continues to experiment.

Ice Spice Showcases An Otherworldy Sound For Potential Single “Phat Butt”

There is a belief out there that Ice Spice’s upcoming debut album Y2K! could be career altering record for better or worse. The New York rapper experienced an extremely quick rise to star status after several viral singles. It has led to brand deals, as well as co-signs from major stars. However, after the release of her first project, Like.. ? in early 2023, the quality of her releases has not been up to snuff, for the most part. Those tracks of course include “Think U The S*** (Fart)” and “Gimmie A Light”. But perhaps this potential single from Ice Spice, “Phat Butt”, could swing her fortunes.

Since her fans are going to have wait another month and change for the LP, the 24-year-old has been extremely generous with the snippets. With “Phat Butt” being teased multiple times in the past couple of days, there is a good chance we get another sneak peek at the sonic direction soon. Compared to the aforementioned promotional cuts, “Phat Butt” sees Ice Spice go for a more spacey, warped, and dark sound. It sounds like something Yeat would have put on his last record, 2093.

In terms of the artist performance, the “Munch” MC is bringing a more stripped back and cool cadence. It is a pretty stark change from the shouty deliveries on “(Fart)” and “Gimmie A Light”. The flows and bars are also pretty sticky, “Name got the b**** gaggin’, hit the bench up and tagged in / B****, you lost, throw the flag in, stay on a jet, but ain’t laggin’ (Yup) / Got these b****es copying my pose (My pose) / Got these b****es bitin’ all my flows (Bitin’ all my flows) / Like ballerinas, keep em’ on they toes (On they toes) / And I really write, like f*** a ghost (Ghost, ghost, ghost)“. If this is the type of material fans are getting a lot of on Y2K!, then those monthly listener numbers are going to shoot back up.

What are your thoughts on this new Ice Spice snippet, “Phat Butt”? Do you like Ice Spice going in a darker direction for this upcoming track, why or why not?
