Ice Spice’s “Y2K!” Rating From Pitchfork Has Fans Totally Perplexed

This new wave of female rappers has had a lot of hip-hop fans, especially the purists, upset over their success. Artists like Sexyy Red, GloRilla, Latto, and Saweetie all have an abrasive and raunchy approach that has been nothing but controversial. Listeners continue to highlight that their sex appeal is why they are relevant, while blasting them for their lack of writing and substance. All of these criticisms are certainly being applied to Ice Spice as well. Seeing her immense success has angered the masses, and while the New Yorker might not care about the noise, her debut was set up to quell the hate. In the eyes of Pitchfork, Ice Spice certainly did that with Y2K!.

The music reviewing publication has long been viewed as one of little validity by fans of the genre. That narrative is being pushed once more after they gave Ice Spice’s LP a 7.6 out of 10. It seems that almost everyone has been dragging Y2K!, even labeling it one of the worst projects of the year. However, with this rating, it is officially the highest score out of all of the mainstream rap tapes in 2024. Some Twitter users were asking Hip Hop All Day if ScHoolboy Q’s BLUE LIPS counts. While that certainly is a compelling argument, the Cali rapper does not have the same pull as Ice Spice, especially numbers wise.

Ice Spice’s “Y2K!” Has Highest Mainstream Review By Pitchfork

In their write-up, Pitchfork does point out the lyrical shortcomings as being the major drawback. However, they feel Ice Spice put forth an album that “sounds like nothing her peers could make, swerving from one sonic inspiration to the next”. They credit her for her “agile and adaptable flow, assembling simple syllables into unusual cadences”. Overall, Pitchfork, deems Y2K! as ambitious and appreciate her willingness to make what she loves, instead of conforming to previous expectations. For context, Ice Spice received higher scores over her mainstream counterparts such as Metro Boomin and Future, Megan Thee Stallion, and Eminem, just to name a few.

What are your thoughts on Ice Spice’s debut album Y2K! getting a 7.6 out of 10 from Pitchfork? If you disagree with this score, what would you rate it? What songs are you revisiting the most from the project? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Ice Spice & Gunna Turn Up Together At “Y2K” Release Party In NYC

Yesterday, Ice Spice finally unveiled her eagerly anticipated new album Y2K. Fans had high hopes for the Bronx-born performer’s debut, which boasts various high-profile features. Travis Scott, Central Cee, and Eve Gunna make appearances. To celebrate, Ice Spice hosted a release party in New York City last night, where she turned up alongside some of her collaborators.

In a few clips making their rounds online, for example, she’s seen hanging out with Gunna. She posed for photos in a silver outfit, which she paired with a bold butterfly necklace. The duo appeared to be deep in conversation in one of the clips, though it remains unclear exactly what they were chatting about.

Ice Spice Celebrates Her New Album With Gunna

This isn’t the only collaborator Ice Spice has turned up with as of late, however. Yesterday, she dropped off a new music video for “Oh Shhh…” alongside Travis Scott. In the fun video, the two of them are seen spitting bars while New York City is consumed by flames. Ice Spice even paid homage to her hometown by dressing up as the Statue of Liberty. It looks like she might have something else in the works too, as during a recent interview with Capital XTRA Breakfast, she shared that she has some risky post-Y2K plans.

I kind of want to do something that is kind of crazy, but I don’t want to say what it is yet. I feel like people are going to have so many things to say, but if I do it, you guys will not miss it,” she said. “That’s all I can really say. But let’s see, let’s see, though. I don’t know, I might change my mind. I’m very indecisive.” What do you think of Ice Spice’s new album Y2K? What about the Bronx-born performer linking up with Gunna at her release party? Ice Spice Reveals She & Nicki Minaj Aren’t “The Closest” After Leaked Texts Scandal

It’s no secret that Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj are a match made in heaven musically, but according to the “Phat Butt” rapper, they’re not exactly the best of friends when they aren’t collaborating. During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Ice Spice opened up and her and Nicki’s bond. She said that while they’re not on bad terms, they’re not the closest either, despite making multiple hits together.

“We don’t have the closest relationship, you know? But we’re definitely good,” she explained. “We’re mutuals. We had smash records together. I love us together. I think the world does too.” Ice Spice continued, sharing her thoughts on some text messages leaked by an ex-friend of hers, Baby Storme. In the texts, Ice Spice seemingly expressed her frustrations with Nicki, calling her “ungrateful and delusional.”

She appeared to confirm that these were real in her chat with the outlet, though she said this doesn’t change her overall feelings towards Nicki. “I don’t really think she cares about sh*t like that coming from a random girl,” she explained. “But what I said in those texts was just in a moment of frustration around contract negotiations. I could have chose different words. But at the end of the day, regardless of how I felt in that moment, [Nicki] is still somebody I respect as an artist, and I’m always going to admire everything she’s done for me and the culture.”

Ice Spice Twerks Her Way Around New York With Travis Scott In The Official ‘Oh Shhh…’ Video

Central Cee isn’t the only Ice Spice collaborator to spark dating rumors. Now that the “Phat Butt” rapper’s debut studio album, Y2K!, is out, supporters are curious about her connection with Travis Scott, which has intensified with the release of their track, “Oh Shhh…” official video.

Today (July 26), Ice dropped the New York-themed visual and showed what brought the two acts together: their ability to shake the room. Scott’s recent Circus Maximus Tour stop in Italy nearly caused an earthquake. While Ice’s twerking (when she’s up to it) could spark that same results.

In the video, Ice showed off her sensual moves around her stomping grounds. It starts, though, with Ice on display as a twerking art exhibit. From prestigious museums to her re-imagined Liberty Island, Ice embraces her beloved moves and historical figures. For fun, Ice even sported a custom Statue Of Liberty costume for a laugh.

But at dinner with Scott, they turn things up by standing on expensive couches. Then, Scott took his rager energy to the Statue Of Liberty’s torch for a standalone scene to end the fiery video.

Today, Ice Spice dropped her eagerly anticipated debut album Y2K! following months of teasing. The project includes various previously released singles like “Phat Butt” and “Think U The Sh*t,” along with six brand new tracks. It also boasts high-profile features from the likes of Central Cee, Gunna, and Travis Scott.

Now, Ice Spice has unveiled a new music video for her collaboration with Scott, “Oh Shhh…” The video begins with Ice Spice throwing it back in a display case at what appears to be a museum. Of course, onlookers are stunned as they watch in awe. The Bronx-born performer then channels Lady Liberty, holding a torch as she poses in front of the New York City skyline.

Ice Spice Drops Off New Y2K! Visuals

Things take a fiery turn when Travis Scott is introduced, as the city is quickly consumed by flames. He spits his verse from the iconic statue’s crown while unbothered by the chaos taking place behind him, enjoys a feast with his collaborator, and more. So far, fans are loving the fun visual. Unfortunately, however, the same can’t be said for the rest of the album. As reactions to Y2K! continue to roll in, listeners’ feedback has been overwhelmingly negative. While some are simply disappointed by the lack of new material it actually includes, others think Ice Spice needs to consider changing up her sound.

Many even think Ice Spice threw shade at Cardi B on her track “BB Belt,” which has fans split and seemingly earned a heated response from the “Enough” rapper yesterday. What do you think of Ice Spice’s new album, Y2K? Do you think it deserves all of the negative feedback it’s been receiving online or not? What about her new music video for her track “Oh Shhh…” with Travis Scott? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Did Ice Spice Diss Cardi B On Her New Album ‘Y2K!’?

Ice Spice has become one of hip-hop’s biggest stars without an album to her name, but that changed today (July 26) with the release of Y2K!, her debut album. There is some speculation that on the project, Ice devoted some time to dissing Cardi B.

Did Ice Spice Diss Cardi B On Her New Album Y2K!?

On “BB Belt,” Ice raps (per Genius):

“I don’t get introduced
Yeah, I’m that b*tch so they stealin’ my juice
This one b*tch is built like an ant, ew
Crashouts, and they goin’ on rants
Cash cow, I be gettin’ them bands
B*tches switchin’ but they wasn’t trans.”

She later says:

“And I’m thick, but I don’t got a waist
Think she pretty, but changin’ her face
Fallin’ behind like, b*tch, pick up your pace
It was funny ’til I took her place
Her man callin’, but I be like, ‘Who this?’
I’m a switchy b*tch, I really do this.”

There has been speculation that these lines are aimed at Cardi. As XXL notes, a leaked version of the song made the rounds yesterday, and some have interpreted a pair of Cardi tweets as her response to the track.

Cardi wrote in one post, “These b*tches have absolutely lost their mind… I’m getting all my lick backs on my album tho …ON EACH ONE OF YOU B*TCHES !!!” She added in another, “These b*tches can’t see me in numbers or status, y’all had WAY too much time to catch up. Can’t see me in money, can’t see me in real estate, fashion, and CAN’T SEE ME IN PERSON either… I’m not in a rat race with none of you b*tches!! And ima show yall.”

In regards to the “Her man callin’, but I be like, ‘Who this?’” line, Ice and Central Cee’s ex recently had what appeared to be a bit of online feuding. More recently, though, Ice said her and Cee’s relationship is platonic.

Ice Spice Album Torched By Fans Online As Some Feel Like It Completely Misses The Mark

Ice Spice officially dropped off her new album Y2K! on Friday. Overall, her debut album was something that a lot of fans were looking forward to. After all, she is an artist who has been bubbling over the last couple of years. Ever since the release of “Munch,” Ice Spice has shown that she can make hits when she needs to. Unfortunately, with the rollout of her new album, Spice was leaving a lot to be desired. Fans were worried about the quality of the singles, and with only 10 tracks on the album, there was some trepidation.

Well, the 10 tracks are here, and the album has features from Travis Scott, Central Cee, and even Gunna. Unfortunately, it seems as though these features are not saving the album from getting negative reviews from fans. If you were to go on Twitter today, you would see very few positive reviews of the album. Instead, hate is everywhere, with many claiming that every song is a bust. It’s a disappointing reaction, although given how fans reacted to the singles, this should not be a huge surprise.

Ice Spice had a lot riding on this release. While the reactions appear to be negative, there is always a chance that she is still able to get some hefty first-week sales. If not, then Ice Spice may have to reassess her sound and strategy, moving forward. Only time will tell whether or not Y2K! will grow on people. Ice Spice Twerks On Kai Cenat’s Stream After Being Asked To Freestyle

Ice Spice just dropped off her brand-new album, Y2K. This is her debut project and as you can imagine, there was a lot of hype going into this release. However, there were also quite a few reservations. With four out 10 songs already being known to the public, fans felt like Spice could have done more. Not to mention, the lead singles were not incredibly popular. Either way, there is a lot of intrigue about the project, and only time will tell what happens next for her.

Meanwhile, on Thursday night, Ice Spice decided to do a stream with Kai Cenat as a means of promoting the album. She and Kai have been flirty with one another in the past, so it should come as no surprise that they streamed. Overall, it was a fun time for both of them and there are some viral clips making it to the internet. In one of these clips, Kai asks Ice Spice to freestyle. However, she ended up twerking instead. You can check out this clip, below.

Overall, this is going to be a make-or-break time for Ice Spice. People want to see that she is the real deal when it comes to hitmaking. However, the reactions to her latest songs have been brutal in a way. That said, it will be interesting to see whether or not the artist is able to subvert some of the narratives that have persisted as of late. Only time will tell whether or not this album is a true success or one of the biggest flops of the entire year.

Ice Spice Turns Heads On Her Self-Centered Single, ‘Oh Shhh…’ With Travis Scott

Ice Spice‘s debut album, Y2K!, has arrived, bringing with it a new song featuring Travis Scott. On “Oh Sh…” the Bronx native boasts her head-turning abilities, bragging that she elicits the titular exclamation when doing things such as “throwin’ the knot,” “doin’ her dance,” “countin’ her bands,” and, of course, “showin’ her thong.” Meanwhile, Travis shoots his shot, hoping that his new boo doesn’t trade up for a ballplayer.

Y2K! arrives after a seven-month rollout that included the releases of singles “Think U The Sh*t (Fart),” “Gimmie A Light,” and “Phat Butt.” There were some bumps in the road, though; namely, a short-lived feud with Latto that appears to have ended up being more beneficial to the “Sunday Service” rapper, and a lukewarm reception to the album’s artwork.

However, what wasn’t lukewarm was Ice’s media promo tour; her foray onto Hot Ones found her unable to keep her cool or handle the spice, dropping her into the show’s Hall Of Shame. Fortunately, she’ll have plenty of chances to redeem herself on her upcoming concert tour with Cash Cobain; you can find the dates for that here.
