Tems Explains Viral Oscars Dress After Facing Backlash On Twitter

This past weekend, the Oscars was undoubtedly the biggest event taking place for Hollywood’s elite. Countless stars and starlets were at the Dolby Theatre to watch Brendan Fraser bring home the award for Best Actor, and Angela Bassett once again get snubbed from winning a coveted prize from the Academy. Besides the annual list of winners and losers, the internet has also been discussing the various red carpet looks that were worn. Specifically, Tems’ extravagant gown has brought in considerable backlash online.

The Nigerian singer-songwriter’s all-white look was undeniably stunning, though the stiff fabric wrapped around her head proved to be problematic for others. After killing it on her first Oscars red carpet, Tems headed inside the venue, where her OOTN unfortunately blocked the view of those sitting behind her. In some clips circulating on socials, some attendees struggle to take in the show from behind the Best Original Song nominee.

Tems’ Oscars Look Sparks Twitter Debate

In the time since, Twitter has sparked a debate surrounding the topic, with some arguing that the 27-year-old is only facing so much backlash because she’s a successful Black woman. On the other hand, many users think that Tems’ dress of choice was “inconsiderate” of those around her, and making that known isn’t an act of hate. “People point that out is not racism, as long as they aren’t using derogatory language. Humans need to be more honest,” someone vented on Monday (March 13).

That same day, Harper’s Bazaar shared an interview with the “Free Mind” songstress, in which she explains her bold outfit’s inspiration. “Two years ago, I would’ve said no to this dress,” she told the outlet. “But it’s my first Oscars — I am going to go all out. I really wanted to make the most of the day. The dress is also my way of celebrating my work and the people around me, celebrating my country, and celebrating the people that are rooting for me. This dress says ‘Yes, yes, I am here!’”

“Lift Me Up” Co-Writer Explains Her OOTN

Her stylist, Dunsin Wright, told the magazine that his vision came together after hearing Tems say that she’s “entering a new era” at the start of 2023. “That played on my mind as I considered the perfect outfit for the Oscars. We wanted something that felt quite delicate but powerful, something that made her feel ethereal,” he shared. “It was a bold option, but I was confident that if anyone could wear it the way it needed to be worn, it was Tems.”

“She is so graceful and confident, and she makes every piece her own,” Wright praised his client. On her Twitter page, the recording artist seemingly addressed those throwing shade her way online, writing “Oops,” alongside some stunning portraits of her in the Lever Couture look. Let us know what you thought of Tems’ Oscars outfit in the comments, and check back later for more pop culture news updates.

Angela Bassett’s Oscars Snubs Have SZA Feeling Some Type Of Way

The many celebrities who took home an Academy Award on Sunday (March 12) night were surely happy with their win. Still, that obviously doesn’t mean the rest of the world was as enthused for them. Each and every ceremony brings with it a collection of snubs – prizes given to nominees who arguably deserve them less than their contemporaries, usually for reasons related to race and socioeconomic background. This year, it seems as though the internet is most enraged about Angela Bassett’s loss after her emotional performance in Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The 64-year-old was up against Hong Chau (The Whale), Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Jamie Lee Curtis, and Stephanie Hsu – the latter two starring in Everything Everywhere All at Once – in the Best Supporting Actress category. Ultimately, it was the Freaky Friday actress who took home the Oscar, and cameras caught an obviously upset expression on Bassett’s face when the news was announced.

In the hours since the Academy Awards aired, thousands have tweets have been shared, expressing frustration over Bassett’s loss. Fans of the American Horror Story starlet have been actively rooting for her to win, especially considering she’s been snubbed before in the past. Days before the ceremony took place, SZA ranted about the Hollywood icon’s lack of recognition on her Twitter page. “Realizing Angela Bassett doesn’t already have an Oscar [makes] me wanna knock shit over,” she said.

Many other users have made it clear they feel the same way as the Ctrl singer. “Literally it’s sick asf,” someone replied to SZA’s post. “Everyone who voted for Jamie Lee Curtis over Angela Bassett and Stephanie Hsu needs to sleep with one eye open,” another person joked. Angela Bassett Loses Oscar To Jamie Lee Curtis: Twitter Reacts

Plenty of fans showed support for Angela Bassett on social media after she lost the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress at the 95th Academy Awards on Sunday night. She had been nominated for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but lost out to Jamie Lee Curtis, who appeared in the Best Picture winner, Everything Everywhere All at Once.

“Just because she’s an actor doesn’t mean she always has to act. We can be disappointed for Angela Bassett & happy for JLC, those 2 things can exist. But, Angela Bassett gets to feel the way she feels. This system is broken. Her reaction is about that,” one user wrote. Another added: “Good for Angela Bassett not smiling nor clapping. Y’all expect Black women to not only be exceptional, but be happy for other who get accolades we deserve over and over.”

Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors also took a moment to praise Bassett after her loss. While taking the stage to present the award for Best Cinematography, Jordan said, “Hey auntie,” while Majors added, “We love you.”

Sunday isn’t the first time that Bassett has lost an Oscar. She was previously nominated for Best Actress after playing the music icon Tina Turner in the 1993 biopic What’s Love Got To Do With It. “In the moment … you’re hoping, and praying, and wishing, but I don’t walk away thinking ‘I’ve been robbed,’” Bassett told CBS Mornings about that loss. “That’s too negative of an emotion to carry with me for the rest of my life.”

All-in-all, Everything Everywhere All at Once ended up notching acting awards for Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, and Jamie Lee Curtis. It also won Best Director and Best Original Screenplay in addition to Best Picture. For the full list of winners and nominees from the night, head here. Worms Seemingly Rain Down On China, Twitter Reacts

What may seem like the concept of a horror movie for some has transpired into real life. This week, residents of Liaoning, China were showered with rainfalls of worms, as reported by the Mirror. Seemingly coming from mid-air, these squiggly creatures made their way from the sky to the ground, covering the cars and streets en masse. Locals of the town attempted to go about their day with umbrellas, while authorities advised seeking shelter.

This strange ordeal remains a mystery, though several theories depict ways that the creepy crawlies could have found their way into Liaoning. For one, the Mother Nature Network suggests that the worms were swept up by large winds that eventually led them to be caught in a rainstorm. The journal notes that this phenomenon shows similarities to when insects are caught in whirlpools.

China Authorities Urge Residents To Take Shelter

Surprisingly, these raining worms have not been the only unexplainable cause to have stumped biologists. In 2015, Texas experienced its own downfall of slimy creatures on the road in Eisenhower State Park. Initially, Park Rangers assumed that this sighting was a careless dropping of pasta noodles until they noticed that the squiggles were in fact worms. Eight years later, the occurrence still remains a mystery.

Twitter users took to the platform to discuss this strange occurrence, with some debunking this rainstorm of worms altogether. One user wrote, “these are not worms or animals, but flower stalks dropped from trees,” suggesting that the worm-like sightings were actually just the bloom from poplar flowers. Others who refuse to believe the photos are suggesting that they may have been staged.

While the unsightly event in China stirred up questions and hypotheses from both scientists and social media users alike, some remain outright disturbed by the idea of worms raining from the sky. “If I was just minding my business on a casual day in China and it started raining worms ?? I’d just die,” one user tweeted. Another added, “I consider myself a strong woman. BUT, this would probably give me a heart attack.” To keep up with the latest news on hip-hop, pop culture, and the strangeness within the world, check out HNHH.

Yung Miami Responds To “BMF” Backlash On Twitter As Trolls Clown Her Performance

She’s best known as one-half of the City Girls, but that doesn’t mean Yung Miami doesn’t have other aspirations outside of becoming a rap icon. Most recently she’s been pouring her energy into several different avenues. Among them are her upcoming music releases alongside JT, her Caresha Please podcast, and finally, her acting career. The Florida-born performer first showed up in Netflix’s You People. She’s since gone on to have two noteworthy TV stints as well.

Kenya Barris’ Grown-ish series hired the mother of two to play Ms. It in one episode of their fourth season. Elsewhere, 50 Cent brought Miami onto the BMF cast alongside names like Lil Meech, Kash Doll, and La La Anthony. Her appearance in season two aired on Thursday (March 9) night. It obviously left plenty of viewers upset – according to Twitter, anyway.

Caresha Brownlee, Aspiring Actress

Users haven’t been biting their tongues about the 29-year-old’s performance, some of them dubbing it “the worst acting” that they’ve ever seen. In her brief scene with Meech, Miami slaps him after hearing the bad news that her own partner has been shot. As some social media users pointed out, this is similar to the “Twerkulator” artist’s real-life situation with one of her children’s fathers, who previously lost his life.

Unfortunately, Caresha’s acting wasn’t giving the emotions that BMF fans wanted. Many were quick to criticize her for looking as though she wanted to laugh during the serious moment onscreen. As the trolls continue to clown her, the recording artist didn’t hesitate to clap back at this on Friday (March 10) afternoon. “If I’m crying why y’all laughing??? Y’all play [too] much,” she wrote.

Miami is Tired of the Trolls

In other posts, Miami showed love to those supporting her venture into acting. “So today y’all hating on @yungmiami305? She went from scamming, finessing, etc. to rapping, talk show hosting, and acting… Now y’all mad? Damned if you do, damned if you don’t!” one enthusiastic fan wrote.

“I love to see [people] win in life, elevate, and give their family the [world]!” their sweet message concluded. In response, the City Girl said, “The more they hate, the more opportunities come!! It’s only the beginning for me!” Read more Twitter reactions to Yung Miami’s BMF performance here, and check back later for more pop culture news updates.

Yung Joc’s Infamous 3D Tupac Haircut Resurfaces & Twitter Is Still Baffled

Yung Joc always manages to take the internet by storm for the wrong reasons. In the latter half of 2022, he made headlines after sending $1,800 on Zelle before trying to retrieve the funds. Unfortunately for him, the individual ended up blocking him. Then, there was the moment where he ate his words after betting that Tory Lanez would be found not guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion. As a result, he kept to his word and shaved his head bald for the Internet to see.

However, Yung Joc’s hair-dos also manages to capture the attention of Twitter. Previously, he became a meme after showcasing his perm, which continues to live on in Twitter discourse. Still, nothing beats Yung Joc’s 3D Tupac haircut that he revealed a few years ago. The intricate hairdo includes braids tied to the top of his head in a bun, while a portrait of Tupac is edged onto the back. However, he used some of the unbraided hair to give ‘Pac the same hairstyle he had when he played Roland Bishop in Juice

Yung Joc Tupac Haircut Resurfaces

This morning, the barber behind the infamous do took to Instagram to reflect on the viral moment. Rob The Barber shared the video of Joc’s odd tribute to the late rapper, writing, “3D 2Pac portrait haircut on the homie @joclive [Yung Joc] #robtheorginal.” Though the video undoubtedly showcased Rob’s incredible skills as a barber, many still question why Yung Joc thought it would be an effective tribute to a cherished legend in the game.

Following the viral moment in 2019, Joc and Rob The Barber explained to TMZ that it was an incredibly detailed process. Rob said that he used trimmers to carve Tupac’s image with 3D hair to flesh out the image. Meanwhile, he used eyeliner to create facial features. Though an impressive style, Joc said that he needed to shower meticulously and ensure that the steam doesn’t effect the hair-do.

After the video emerged online, again, Twitter went into a frenzy. Some questioned Job’s sanity, writing, “Man what tf wrong with yung joc ??? I know 2pac pissed.” Another person wrote, “When it comes to hairstyles yung Joc is like 3/89.” Needless to say, there were plenty of people hounding Joc for the wild attempt at paying homage. Check out a few more responses below.

Yung Miami’s “BMF” Debut Is “The Worst Acting” Some Twitter Users Have “Ever Seen”

Yung Miami and JT have only been making music together as City Girls since the late 2010s. Already, the duo has achieved so many major milestones both together and apart. For her part, Caresha Brownlee has dabbled in several avenues outside of rapping, including modelling, acting, and hosting her own REVOLT podcast. Jatavia Johnson, of course, was previously involved in scamming, for which she served time. She now pours her energy into creative outlets like fashion and writing lyrics.

For their most recent performance together, the City Girls joined forces at Rolling Loud California. During their set, they performed plenty of old favourites, also previewing their next drop, “Piñata.” It’s been receiving favourable reactions on social media so far, as have both Miami and JT’s feather-covered ensembles.

BMF Isn’t the Only Performing Caresha’s Been Doing

Their time on stage went off without a hitch. Sadly, the rap divas didn’t have as much luck during their interviews at the festival. While speaking with 28-year-old Tamera Kissen, the City Girls were bombarded with uncomfortable questions about their sex life. Yung Miami managed to keep a smile on her face for the most part, though JT’s shocked expression was far less contained.

Being back in performance mode was undeniably exciting for the partners in rhyme, but this weekend, Caresha put her acting cap on to make her debut on 50 Cent’s BMF series. She has previous acting experience from appearing in Netflix’s You People and Kenya Barris’ Grown-ish, so many were hoping to be impressed by her work. Unfortunately, the reactions pouring in seem to be the opposite, with multiple viewers dubbing it the “worst acting” they’ve ever seen.

Viewers React to Miami’s Acting

“I hope Yung Miami stick to making music bruh, this really the worst acting I ever seen in my life,” one person wrote after seeing the City Girl slap Lil Meech. “Please give actors/actresses the chance to be on this show. No more guest star rappers that can’t act. We already let it slide with bad acting Lala but that Yung Miami shit is not it,” someone else urged the hit show’s producers.

Amid all the hate, the mother of two managed to find a positive comment which she replied to early Friday (March 10) morning. “Caresha did great for her first time acting and especially playing a role that had a similar situation in her life. That’s hard to do,” they praised her. “Thank you SD,” she wrote back. “The Strays” On Netflix Has Viewers “Scarred For Life” After Watching British Horror Film

Halloween is still many months away, but a recent horror arrival on Netflix has left some viewers feeling “scarred for life” after watching. The British flick is called The Strays. According to many Twitter users, it has an eerily similar feeling to Jordan Peele’s fan favourite, Get Out. It previously premiered on the streamer at the end of February and has managed to keep the internet talking in the weeks since.

The Nathaniel Martello-White-directed project follows Neve (played by Ashley Madekwe), a light-skinned Black woman living in a suburban English town. She works as a deputy headmistress and is married to Ian (Justin Salinger), a white man. For the most part, Neve seems to avoid embracing her biracial status. When two strangers arrive in town, however, her picture-perfect life begins to unravel in ways you could never imagine.

The Strays Trailer

In the Netflix trailer for The Strays, the troubled woman nearly crashes her car, containing her two children, upon seeing the mysterious figures. Later in the clip, we see Neve and Ian entertaining guests while a creepy man watches on from the pavement outside. “What’s that at the window? Someone’s there, can’t you see?” she asks. Surprisingly, the other guests are left confused, asking the hostess, “What’s wrong with you tonight?”

Easily one of the streamer’s most chilling arrivals so far this year, The Strays has plenty of people speaking their minds on Twitter. “Guys I’m watching ‘The Strays’ on Netflix and I’m just thinking about how Jordan Peele has quite literally created his own film genre,” one user pointed out. “‘Get Out’ literally has sons now I’m actually so shocked lol.”
