The 2024 BET Hip-Hop Awards were filled with flower giving. One of the rap legends receiving their flowers include Trina.
On the heels of the release of the “Here We Go Again” rapper’s autobiography she hit the stage to perform a medley of her cultural impactful tracks including “Baddest B*tch,” “B R Right,” “Look Back at Me,” and “Nann.” But as an ode to her Dade County upbringing, Trina brought out her God-daughter and fellow rapper Yung Miami to perform “Pull Over!”
Although Yung Miami’s Caresha Please podcast has returned in full effect, and she was a special guest during Usher’s Past Present Future Tour, the cameo at marked her first performance since indictment against her on-and-again-off-again boyfriend Diddy into which she has reportedly been looped.
On stage dressed in a costume honoring Trina’s original look, Yung Miami let it all hang. The rapper didn’t mess a beat as she paid tribute to her Godmother. Between her public spat with former City Girls mate JT and the sea of lawsuit against her ex-boyfriend Diddy, fans poured out their support across platforms such as X (formerly known as Twitter).

Making a massive impact in music is certainly a tall task. If the artist is driven enough, they are going to do everything they possibly can to make their dreams a reality. Sometimes, up and coming artists have to fend for themselves and go lone wolf. For Tory Lanez, it was certainly trending that way for some time. About a decade ago, the Canadian rapper was having to sleep in his old girlfriend’s car and his manager’s couch due to his financial struggles. Unfortunately, Tory’s girl broke things off with him, so he was having to find a new temporary place to stay.
That’s when Trinacame through for then young and bubbling talent, according to a recent inspirational IG post (via AllHipHop). For Tory, the story goes, “I remember showing her the song for ‘Godfather’. She looked at me and said, ‘That’s the song that’s going to get you a deal’. She put five bands up and helped me get the video shot. Coincidentally, the same director from that video, shot another video from the project for free. That video ended up being ‘Henny in Hand’. Two months later, Interscope watched both videos and couldn’t believe it was the same person on both songs. That led to me getting signed and the rest was history”.
Because of Trina’s unwavering support and generosity, Tory was able to build out his sound and brand. It’s part of the reason why the now star multi-talent is also revealing the rerelease of the mixtape in which those two songs land on. That project is Lost Cause and it’s coming on October 1, which is the day it turns 10. On top of that incredible news, Tory will also be continuing this reissuing run moving forward. “This will be the first of many classic mixtapes of mine that I will officially release on DSPs now that I am INDEPENDENT!!!”.

“Flawless” is a boastful classic from Beyoncé’s acclaimed self-titled album. Featuring none other than the queen of rap herself, Nicki Minaj, the song sees the two divas exchange hard bars. Although Beyoncé was expected to be out-rapped by Minaj, her verse is just as memorable as Nicki’s. Some would even argue that Beyoncé’s verse stole the show.

Released as the lead single from the groundbreaking album Lemonade, “Formation” is a defining song in Beyonce’s catalog and easily, one of her best songs ever, period. With a blend of unapologetic lyricism and cultural resonance, her rap verses on this song are a powerful vehicle for social commentary. Rapping with effortless sophistication on this track, Beyoncé ushered her listeners into a new era with its release. Plus, the ode to Blackness is littered all around the track, as well as an appreciation for hot sauce! What’s not to love?
5. “Top Off” – DJ Khaled Ft. Jay-Z, Future, & Beyoncé (2018)
“I’m the only lady here, still the realest n*gga in the room / I broke the internet, top two and I ain’t number two.”
Over a year before DJ Khaled’s Father Of Asahd dropped in May 2019, “Top Off” was released as the lead single from the album. Despite being featured alongside two iconic male rappers, one of which happens to be her husband, Queen Bey arguably has the best verse on the song. While Jay-Z and Future’s parts are great, Beyoncé went off rapping flawlessly on the track. Her confidence is off the charts, evidently put on display through her verse. Overall, there’s no mistaking that she knows she’s the queen.

Another standout track from Beyoncé, on “Partition,” the artist’s rapping is sensual and exciting. On the track, she seamlessly transitions between sultry vocals and razor-sharp rap verses. From intimate revelations to bold expressions of desire, Bey’s rap delivery adds a layer of sophistication to the unforgettable track. It’s been almost a decade since it was released, but the song remains one of Beyoncé’s most unique tracks.
3. “Feeling Myself” – Nicki Minaj ft. Beyoncé (2014)
“Changed the game with that digital drop / Know where you was when that digital popped, I stopped the world.”
Much like Beyonce’s digital drop, this collaboration also stopped the world. Months before “Feeling Myself” dropped, “Flawless (Remix)” had been released, so fans got two collabs from the icons in the same year. Beyoncé rapping on “Feeling Myself” was not something fans expected, but as usual, the singer is full of surprises. Not only did she spit bars on the track, but she was on par with Nicki Minaj on the track.
2. “Apes*it” – The Carters (2018)
“Gimme my check, put some respek on my check / Or pay me in equity (Pay me in equity) / Watch me reverse out of debt.”
Beyoncé and Jay-Z, as The Carters, released their Hip Hop album Everything Is Loveon June 16, 2023. Throughout the album, Beyoncé was in her bag, rapping like the virtuoso she is. However, on “Apes*it,” she absolutely devoured, almost eating Jay-Z up in the process as well. Not many rappers can go toe-to-toe with the rap legend, but Beyoncé did it, and arguably bested him on the song.
“Hips tick-tick when I dance / On that demon time, she might start an OnlyFans / Big B and that B stand for bands.”
Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage” was already pretty popular when it dropped in March 2020. However, the remix with Beyoncé that followed afterwards shot it into the stratosphere, and rightly so. Honestly, Queen Bey and Megan Thee Stallion delivered some of their catchiest lines on this track. Additionally, soon after its release, “Savage (Remix)” topped the Billboard Hot 100. The song is a banger and remains one of the best examples of Beyoncé rapping like it’s her full time job.
As a twenty-year veteran, fans wondered why she didn’t name herself, longtime friend Missy Elliott, or even former collaborators like Nicki Minaj during the chat. Users online began to speculate that there was a deeper reasoning behind her answer, specifically her not mentioning the latter. So, do Nicki Minaj and Trina have beef? According to Trina, the answer is no, but the Barbz beg to differ.
In a 2019 Instagram Live promoting their joint song “BAPS (Bad Ass Pretty Sagittarius),” Trina shut down the reports of friction between the two. “There is no beef between me and Nicki Minaj. There will be no disrespect for Nicki Minaj or nobody else that’s on my album,” said Trina.
However, during a Queen Radio episode following the song hit streaming platforms, Nicki Minaj revealed that members of Trina’s team did express frustration with her for not promoting the record to their standards and not working with them to film an official visual for the track given that she had for Megan Thee Stallion’s “Hot Girl Summer.”
“I always show the same love to everybody anytime I do a song with somebody. I show love just because I appreciate being a part of their record. But, for [Trina’s] team or anybody’s team to feel like I owe you anything or to go out and disrespect me because I’m showing love to another female and you’re not gonna check them, that’s not cool,” said Nicki.
So, in the eyes of the Barbz, there could still be lingering animosity between the rappers, hence the inferred dig in the HipHopDX interview.

Trina‘s got the internet in a tizzy thanks to a recent interview in which she handed Beyoncé a very specific and unexpected title (it’s mostly Nicki Minaj stans overreacting, but still). In an interview with HipHopDX (a fellow subsidiary of Warner Music Group), Trina called the Renaissance singer the “No. 1 female rapper when she does rap.” Now, this isn’t the hottest take — after all, I wrote a list of Beyoncé’s 10 best rap songs earlier this month and left QUITE a few potential songs off. But, of course, some people (the Barbz) are always going to take offense to differing opinions.
After catching wind of the backlash, though, the Miami “p*ssy rap” pioneer refused to back down, posting a response on her Instagram Story calling out those who attacked her for speaking her mind. “For the dusty crusty funky b***hes in the bacccckkkk,” she wrote. “Beyoncé is the queen of rap (when she raps) and ALL other genres of music. Now stay mad goofy’s I said what I said and NANN b***h gone check me. Carry on.”

She followed up with a post — on the grid, so you know it’s serious — in which she continued to read the haters for filth. “I rlly don’t give a rats ass how anybody feel, I said what I said,” she wrote in the caption. “that’s the Queen Bey and I’m gonna STAN on that! Beyonce is the Queen of rap (when she raps) and ALL genres of music when it comes to me go argue with the IRS or somebody else idc.”
Well then.
That’s high praise coming from someone who could well be considered one of rap’s biggest trailblazers (seriously, the fact her name isn’t mentioned with the Latifahs, Kims, and Missy Elliotts of the world is a crime against Hip-Hop 50, but we see the agenda). She’s got a point about those slow news days too. But if this comment actually has you bothered, feel free to pick up a copy of The Motherlode and learn some hip-hop history before 2009.

Love & Hip Hop stars have been causing plenty of ruckus lately, from shamelessly using racial slurs to dishing on their sex lives. In the latter category is Prince, who revealed on the We in Miami podcast that he allegedly slept with Lori Harvey. As for the former, Erica Mena lost her job on the reality series for calling Spice a “monkey” during an altercation. Now, some viewers are suggesting Trina should get the same treatment for comments that came out during a fight with Florence El Luche on L&HH Miami.
Footage of the incident is currently circulating online, causing people to debate whether or not the Florida native intended to offend her co-star and her Haitian roots. In the video below, chaos quickly ensues between cast members, during which Trina is accused by Gaelle of robbing her sister, Flo. The 44-year-old didn’t hesitate to deny these allegations, grabbing a nearby microphone to make sure her response was heard loud and clear.
Gaelle said that the “Pull Over” hitmaker failed to return De Luche’s money to her, but at the same time, Trina couldn’t help but point out that the siblings don’t even get along. “I’m really not the motherf**king one!” Da Baddest B**ch reminded everyone in the vicinity. “Not her getting on the mic so she could hear her insults crystal clear.. Purrrr lol,” one IG user pointed out in @theneighborhoodtalk’s comments. “Firstly, Trina said something about voodoo cause Gaelle accused Flo of putting a curse on her… Please with the slurs ,” another person wrote.
