Travis Scott’s Team Refutes Astroworld Documentary As ‘Propaganda Piece’ And A ‘Farce’

Travis Scott has been trying to rebuild his reputation after the tragic events at his Astroworld festival in Houston left ten dead and countless others injured. After recently attempting to launch Project HEAL, which was dismissed as a stunt, Scott has been mostly quiet as of late, except to let Coachella know his feelings about being rescinded from the lineup, via some billboards promoting his upcoming Utopia project.

But news broke this week of a documentary by a filmmaker who thought naming the clip Concert Crush: The Travis Scott Festival Tragedy was a good idea. That filmmaker, named Charlie Minn, did an interview with Page Six claiming Scott is a “criminal” and because of the presence of an ambulance and Travis stopping when he saw people passed out, the rapper should’ve known people had died.

Minn has said his piece, and now Scott’s team has fired back, giving comment to TMZ about Minn’s “propaganda piece.” Here’s further quote given to TMZ, that the film is a “farce financed by and containing content from members of the plaintiff’s legal teams, who, weeks after a tragedy, sought to exploit and benefit financially from it, with the clear goals of making money and swaying future juries and public opinion.”

Further quotes: “It’s a profit play and a publicity stunt, with no support from the film industry, no distribution, and from a director with no respect from his field who has been termed a “trauma pornographer.”

An attorney who is representing several of the plaintiffs from Astroworld in their lawsuits is a producer of the film, which does seem a little strange, and a few plaintiffs decided to be featured in the clip. The film started airing in Texas today. Check out a trailer below.

An Astroworld Documentary Maker Claims Travis Scott Is A Criminal And Deserves Jail Time

As we ease back into festival season, the tension continues when it comes to the unresolved tragedy of Travis Scott’s Astroworld festival, where ten people died. There have been many lawsuits, petitions to get him removed from Coachella, and conflicting attempts of damage control. The rapper was just recently announced as a headliner for Brazilian festival Primavera Sound, his first since the tragedy.

In the midst of all this, filmmaker Charlie Minn has been working on a documentary that’s (maybe insensitively) called Concert Crush: The Travis Scott Festival Tragedy. In a recent interview with Page Six, Minn said, “Travis Scott to me is a punk. In my opinion, he is a criminal. Ten people died. How do we get around that?”

“The reason he deserves criticism and jail time, he knew there was a problem,” he further explained. “He acknowledged an ambulance in the crowd. He noticed people passed out and stopped the show on three occasions. I’m not saying he knew people were dead, but he knew there was a problem. An ambulance is not an ice cream truck.”

The documentary is playing in select theaters in Texas starting today for just one week. It’s also available to stream online.

Travis Scott hasn’t performed on a festival stage since his November Astroword Festival, where a crowd crush caused the deaths of 10 people, including a 14-year-old boy. Travis was subsequently removed as the headliner of multiple festivals including Day N Vegas and Coachella, and was sued alongside festival organizers Live Nation by nearly 3,000 victims, which will continue as a single combined case.

Although Travis was removed as an official Coachella performer, he still made appearances at parties nearby and promoted his upcoming album, Utopia, with billboards along the freeway to Indio, California. He’s also launched a project donating to community-based initiatives, although some victims’ families denounced his announcement as a PR stunt.

Southside Calls on Future and Travis Scott for “Hold That Heat” Video

Southside teamed up with Travis Scott and Future to deliver a new track just before the summer called “Hold That Heat.” Southside created a trippy trap beat that fits the style of both Travis and Pluto.

Travis takes over the course with the repetitive anthem style hook, using a deep cadence in his voice he raps;

“Hold that, hold that heater (Yeah, yeah, Pluto) Hold that, hold that heater (Yeah, yeah) Hold that, hold that heater (Cactus Jack) Hold that, hold that heater (Yeah, yeah) Hold that, hold that heater (Yeah, yeah) Hold that, hold that heater (Yeah, yeah) Hold that, hold that heater.”

The horror film-inspired music video opens with the 808 Mafia producer smoking a blunt, staring at himself in the mirror. Travis is rapping his verse while weirdly holding a leach with a pet alligator, and Future does his verse in a rotating red hallway.

It’s unclear who’s project this song will appear on. Southside’s last album came in 2022 when he collaborated with Doe Boy on Demons R Us. Future just announced that his album would drop on April 29, and Trav is still promoting Utopia.

Travis Scott has been slowly revamping his image since his 2021 Astroworld massacre. He’s launched Project HEAL and has made a few appearances. He also makes an appearance on Kanye West’s Donda 2. Over the weekend, although he didn’t take the stage at Coachella, he did perform at the Revolve x Bootsy Bellows After Party.

Travis Scott And Future Keep The Flame Alive With Southside On ‘Hold That Heat’

Future and Travis Scott are currently putting the finishing touches on their upcoming albums. Future has already revealed that his ninth album, the follow-up to his 2020 effort High Off Life, will arrive on April 29 with features from Drake, Kanye West, Gunna, and more. He’s yet to reveal the title for the project, but it’s almost guaranteed that it will drop before the month ends. As for Travis, he’s working on his upcoming fourth album, tentatively titled Utopia, and thanks to some billboards that appeared in California, it appears that the project will arrive sooner than later.

With that being said, Future and Travis both took a moment from their respective projects to assist producer Southside on his latest single, “Hold That Heat.” The track is a gloomy effort that features lengthy verses from Future and Travis while the former handles the song’s hook. “Hold That Heat” also arrives with an eerie music video that captures Travis rapping beside an alligator while Future resorts to a red room to fire off his bars.

The trio’s song arrives after Travis performed and DJ’d at a Coachella afterparty despite being dropped from its initial lineup. As for Future, he’s a few days removed from gifting his old high school with a fully upgraded weight room.

You can listen to “Hold That Heat” in the video above.
