The Weeknd Stars in New ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops’ 6 “Replacer” Commercial

Music superstar The Weeknd, also known as Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, is the latest celebrity to step into Call of Duty’s world, playing hooky from his day job in the new “The Replacer” commercial for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. The spot marks the third installment in the fan-favorite ad series, which features The Weeknd’s “Mother-effen Starboy” persona as the focus.

In the commercial, live now on Call of Duty’s social channels, The Replacer—played by actor Peter Stormare (known for roles in Fargo and John Wick Chapter 2)—steps in for The Weeknd while the star takes a break to indulge in some gaming. The Replacer’s antics cause chaos, much to the dismay of The Weeknd’s producers and entourage.

The ad series, which debuted during Sunday football on September 29, is part of the larger promotional campaign leading up to the launch of Black Ops 6. Stormare’s character, first introduced in 2013, became a cult favorite among gamers for his comedic efforts to help them escape real-life responsibilities and return to the game.

As excitement builds for the game’s release, the return of The Replacer series, now with the added star power of The Weeknd, is poised to boost anticipation even further among Call of Duty fans.

The Weeknd & Playboi Carti Share Minimalistic Visuals For Hit Collab “Timeless”

Brazilian fans of The Weeknd were treated to some previews of his upcoming album Hurry Up Tomorrow. During the performance, Playboi Carti joined him onstage to give the rambunctious crowd a taste of what we now know to be “Timeless”. The superstars have been developing their relationship for the last year or so since the release of “Popular” last summer. So, it’s nice to see that Abel felt it was necessary to include him on his supposed final Weeknd album. So far, it seems that the Canadian multi-hyphenate is looking to give us an amalgamation of the sounds we have gotten on his last two projects with some callbacks to his earlier work too.

On “Timeless”, The Weeknd and his stacked team of producers blended some incredible shots of synths and contemporary trap production. It allowed Abel to effortlessly switch between his rapping and his delicate singing. Additionally, Carti drops the controversial deep voice for his OG high pitch delivery, making the track that much better. It seems that fans are in agreement with us on it too because the streaming numbers have been off the charts. In just the first 24 hours on Spotify, it racked up over 10 million plays. Currently, it’s over 24 million. These two new they had a hit, so it’s no surprise we have visuals for “Timeless” as of today. In comparison to the video for “Dancing In The Flames”, this one is not nearly as dramatic. It’s darker and grimier, with The Weeknd and Playboi rocking dark attire to match the cavernous vibe. It’s fairly minimalistic, as the locations rarely change from the plain black backdrop. Check out the music video below with the attached embed.

The Weeknd has officially released his latest track, “Timeless,” featuring Playboi Carti, via XO/Republic Records. The song made its electrifying debut during The Weeknd’s sold-out show at Estádio Morumbi in São Paulo, where Carti joined for a surprise performance. The live-streamed event captured over 17 million views and trended in 25 countries worldwide.

Produced by Pharrell Williams, “Timeless” marks The Weeknd and Carti’s second collaboration, following their multi-platinum hit “Popular” with Madonna. The new track showcases their evolving chemistry, offering fans an innovative, boundary-pushing anthem.

“Timeless” sets the stage for The Weeknd’s highly anticipated upcoming album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, which will complete his trilogy of projects following Dawn FM (2022) and After Hours (2020). The album is poised to delve into existential and self-reflective themes, making it one of the year’s most awaited releases.

The Weeknd And Playboi Carti Aim To Become ‘Timeless’ With Their New Single

Playboi Carti has become one of the most in-demand featured artists in music this year, signing on for collaborations with Camila Cabello and Travis Scott, popping out for Lana Del Rey’s Coachella-headlining set, and now, teaming up with The Weeknd for the second single from Abel’s upcoming album, Hurry Up Tomorrow. The new song is the two artists’ first collaboration since 2023’s “Popular” with Madonna.

The Weeknd first revealed the cover art for Hurry Up Tomorrow on September 7 after teasing the new album for months before. In July, he posted a video to social media that declared “there are three chapters to this tale,” leading to speculation that his then-rumored album would constitute the capstone to a trilogy made up of his last two releases, After Hours and Dawn FM. Then, he shared a second screenshot from another eerie video, furthering the mystery and the anticipation for the announcement. Finally, he dropped the video for the lead single, “Dancing In The Flames,” seemingly building on the overarching narrative from the past four years. We’re looking forward to seeing what it all means when Hurry Up Tomorrow is finally out.

The Weeknd And Playboi Carti Transcend With New Single “TIMELESS”

The Weeknd and Playboi Carti have really dominated the month of September. Both artists dropped singles after anticipated hype cycles for their upcoming albums. In the case of Playboi Carti, it was the first new music fans had heard since 2020. The notion of getting two songs in one month would have seemed like an impossibility just a few short weeks ago. Yet, here we are. The Weeknd and Carti have dropped their joint single “TIMELESS,” and it lives up to its lofty title. The song is bassy, catchy, and a perfect blend of both artists’ singular styles.

The Weeknd takes center stage, which makes sense given that he’s been doing most of the promo. He absolutely skates over the beat with verses and a chorus that harkens back to his Trilogy aesthetic. This is most evident around the 1:50 mark, when his soaring vocals perfectly mess with the drums. It sounds great. The synth work littered throughout “TIMELESS,” though, feels more indebted to Playboi Carti and the music he’s been teasing. He gives the song a much more dangerous and gritty feel than Weeknd’s previous single, “Dancing In the Flames.” He also moves away from the Future-like flow and cadence he busted out on “ALL RED.” Carti sounds more discernibly Carti here, and it plays to the song’s benefit.

The Weeknd Reveals Release Date For Playboi Carti Collab “TIMELESS”

The Weeknd and Playboi Carti are kindred spirits. Both have built their musical legacies on mystery and intrigue. The Weeknd has become one of the biggest pop stars on the planet, and Carti has become one of the most obsessed-over rappers. They both have an affinity for woozy, nocturnal sounds, though, so a second collab (after “Popular”) seems like a no-brainer. Fans have been waiting to get an official version of the Weeknd and Carti song “TIMELESS” for quite some time. And we finally have a release date.

The Weeknd confirmed the release on September 25. The singer performed “TIMELESS” alongside Carti during his one night performance Sao Paolo earlier this month. A release date anytime in the near future would have been considered a win by fans, but The Weeknd went above and beyond. He confirmed that “TIMELESS” would be coming out this Friday, September 27. It will mark the second official release from The Weeknd’s upcoming album, Hurry Up Tomorrow. The first, “Dancing In the Flames,” was praised by fans and critics alike for its production.

The Weeknd Has Already Performed “TIMELESS” In Concert

It’s a good time to be a Weeknd fan, but it’s an even better time to be a Playboi Carti fan. Carti has been musically dormant since the release of Whole Lotta Red in 2020. Getting the rapper to drop new music, in an official capacity, is like pulling teeth. Incredibly, “TIMELESS” will mark the second official Carti song to drop in a single month. The eccentric rapper released a single for his upcoming project, “ALL RED,” on September 13. “TIMELESS” will also mark the first time a Weeknd and Carti collab will end up on a “real” album. Their previous song, “Popular,” appeared on the soundtrack for the HBO series The Idol.

The song (and the series) was panned by critics, but The Weeknd maintained that he had a special musical connection with Playboi Carti. “I’m proud of it. I’m definitely proud of it,” he told Apple Music. “Me and Carti had this… I mean, we’ve jammed out before. We’ve had a different version of this song prior. So I’ve had these vocals for a while, and I’ve kind of just worked around it.” Here’s hoping their second collab delivers on the sky high expectations that fans have built.

Spooky season is right around the corner, and it looks like Abel Tesfaye is getting in the mood early. At least, that’s how it appears in the teaser The Weeknd shared from his upcoming Hurry Up, Tomorrow single, “Timeless.” In a tweet, he shared an ominous-looking screenshot from the music video featuring the highly demanded guest star Playboi Carti with both artists draped in their signature black-on-black aesthetics. Carti appears to be wearing a samurai helmet, while Abel himself sticks with his now-familiar shades.

The two artists previously collaborated on the soundtrack from The Weeknd’s much-maligned HBO series, The Idol, teaming up with Madonna on “Popular.” That song, intriguingly enough, also appeared in Fortnite during the game’s Fortnite Festival performance. At the time, Tesfaye said of the collaboration: “I’m proud of it. I’m definitely proud of it. Me and Carti had this… I mean, we’ve jammed out before. We’ve had a different version of this song prior. So I’ve had these vocals for a while, and I’ve kind of just worked around it, and then kind of kept it in the tuck. But now it felt like it was time.”

Whether the vocals for “Timeless” also derived from this jam session is unknown, but they’ve displayed compelling chemistry before, so to see this record also succeed in that respect wouldn’t be a surprise. “Timeless” will be the second single from Hurry Up, Tomorrow after “Dancing In The Flames.”

The Weeknd Regains Spotify Crown with Over 106 Million Monthly Listeners

The Weeknd

The Weeknd has officially reclaimed his title as the artist with the most monthly listeners on Spotify, surpassing 106 million listeners. The XO-superstar previously made history in February 2023 by becoming the first artist to reach 100 million monthly listeners. Although briefly dethroned, he has since held the top spot consistently.

This milestone coincides with the release of his latest music video, “Dancing In The Flames,” from his highly anticipated album Hurry Up Tomorrow, available now on vinyl and CD.

Earlier this month, The Weeknd delivered a sold-out stadium performance in São Paulo, streamed exclusively on YouTube. Millions of fans tuned in to see surprise guests Playboi Carti and Anitta. The concert trended as the top performance in the U.S. and in 24 other countries, further solidifying his global influence.

A portion of merchandise sales from the event, 10% of net proceeds, will support the Brazilian Soul Fund, aiding communities affected by natural disasters and economic hardships.
