The Kansas City Chiefs could lock up the AFC West on Christmas Day when they host the Raiders, but Patrick Mahomes had bigger things to talk about as he sat down with CBS Morning’s Nate Burleson: Taylor Swift.

Mahomes said that Swift was basically a part of Chiefs Kingdom at this point, going as far as to call her “part of the team.”

CBS Morning tweeted out a teaser video of Burleson’s sitdown with Mahomes where he asked the quarterback about “the elephant in the room:” the Chiefs’ talented tight end Travis Kelce’s romance with the global superstar.

“Everybody else is talking about who (Kelce is) talking to,” Burleson said. “Did you guys address the elephant in the room in the beginning or was it something that you guys stayed away from in the locker room?”

“For us, there was a couple of jokes here and there at the beginning but now it’s just — she’s part of Chiefs Kingdom now. She’s part of the team,” Mahomes said.

Mahomes also said it was “cool” that Swift built a friendship with his wife, Brittany.

The two-time league MVP added that there was a lot he could learn from Swift. “It’s been cool to kind of interact with her and see, because she’s top-tier at her profession, and see how she drives and she becomes that. It’s really cool to hear about and to see. Now, I have a firsthand look at that through Brittany and Travis’ eyes. So it is really cool.

“I’m glad that she’s the person that she is and that’s why I think her and Travis match so well.”

Nicki Minaj Would Collaborate With Fellow ‘Sag Queen’ Taylor Swift ‘In A Heartbeat’

Nicki Minaj answered some fan questions on Twitter, particularly if she would ever jump into the studio to collaborate with Taylor Swift. The answer was, obviously, yes, as Minaj didn’t hesitate to shower Swift with praise.

She responded that she would love to work with her “in a heartbeat.”

“The QUEEN TAYLOR DESERVES!!!! PERIOD!!!!!” Minaj wrote in a separate tweet. “She takes months & years off then comes back with great music & fans who’ll never leave her!!!!”

“The point is that we have something to aspire to as we watch the SAG QUEEN Taylor & the swifties & Republic Records,” she added, as she also discussed her own vinyl sales.

Except for a brief 2015 feud, Swift and Minaj have been longtime friends. When the rapper dropped her song “Super Bass” years ago, as she was just getting started, Swift gave it a boost in listeners by promoting it.

A few months ago, fans had speculated if the two were actually working on music together for Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version). The theories started after Swift included the word “Sagittarius” in her puzzle on Google, which was tied to the album. Considering the two both share the same star sign, it seemed like a possibility.

“That’s my favorite Sagittarius over there,” Swift also described about Minaj at this year’s Video Music Awards.

YouTube released its list of the most-viewed artists for 2023, and Peso Pluma took this year’s top spot. The musician gained over 8.5 billion views on his music videos across the globe.

“I feel humble and grateful that my music has made it to the top spot on YouTube,” Peso Pluma told The Hollywood Reporter. “A huge thank you to my musicians and team, my fans, everyone at YouTube and all the people who have made this project possible.”

Two of his songs, “Ella Baila Sola” (feat. Eslabón Armado) and “La Bebe (Remix)” (feat. Yng Lvcas), placed in third and fourth on YouTube’s Top 10 Songs in the US for 2023 as well.

According to the publication, “Ella Baila Sola” got a significant boost through TikTok. It broke a ton of records, too. Peso Pluma’s hit became the first regional Mexican song to make it in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 4 on the chart. It also spent 19 weeks on the Hot Latin Songs Chart and is certified 21x Platinum — amounting to 1.26 million in units.

As for the other artists rounding out YouTube’s most-viewed list this year, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Drake, Bad Bunny, and Taylor Swift were the rest of the Top 5.

Nicki Minaj Confirms Forthcoming Rihanna Collab, Talks Potentially Working With Taylor Swift

Nicki Minaj has always been a major collaborator. Throughout her career, she’s crossed paths with almost all of the biggest stars in rap music. That was once again the case on her new album Pink Friday 2 which dropped earlier this month. Drake, J. Cole, Future, Lil Wayne, Lil Uzi Vert, and more appear throughout the project. Many pointed out that Nicki didn’t work with any of her major female rap contemporaries, instead choosing to diss fellow rappers like Latto and Megan Thee Stallion in lyrics on the album.

But she may have some new collaborations with big female stars outside of rap music coming soon. The first was an official tease coming from Nicki herself. Earlier this week video began making the rounds online of Rihanna dancing to Nicki’s new song “FTCU” at her Fenty event. Nicki must have seen the video spreading around and posted a response to it that has fans extremely enticed. “The full gag city deluxe ain’t coming out until Queen Rih send her vocals. POW,” she teased. Pink Friday 2 already got a deluxe version which added two new tracks a week after the album dropped. But with this new announcement, she confirmed that there’s even more coming soon and Rihanna is likely to be included. Check out her statement below.

Nicki also revealed in an interview that she would love to collaborate with Taylor Swift one day. When asked if she would make a song with the “Cruel Summer” hitmaker she responded “in a heart beat.” Pink Friday 2 has also been a smash hit on the charts. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with more than 200k sales in its first week. It also placed 14 songs in the Hot 100 this week. That second achievement is particularly impressive given a majority of the chart’s Top 50 songs are taken up by Christmas music this time of year.

Nicki Minaj also achieved a new high on the Hot Gospel Songs chart. Her new track “Blessings” immediately soared to the top of the chart marking her first ever number one. Who Is Headlining Coachella 2024?

The Empire Polo Club Grounds in Indio, California, has become one of the most popular locations for live music. This year alone, the inaugural rock festival Power Trip called it home. Next year, Stagecoach Festival will set up shop for its multi-day programming. But the most popular outdoor event held on the grounds is Coachella. With the extravagant two-weekend scheduled to take place in April, curious minds want to know who is headlining.

As of Monday, December 18, the headliners for both weekends, April 14 to 16 and 21 to 23, have not been announced. However, organizers are feeling the pressure based on this year’s atrocity of a set by Frank Ocean (who later dropped out of weekend two). Although Frank did not live up to the hype surrounding his festival return, fans are open to Justin Bieber filling the top slot.

Last year, Bieber postponed his Justice World Tour due to his battle with health complications brought on by Ramsay Hunt syndrome. Now, it appears that he could be up to the big feat. Some are also theorizing that given the success of Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour, it would make sense for her to headline next year’s Coachella. Another name that has been bandied about is Olivia Rodrigo.

It appears ticketholders will have to hold out for just a few more weeks until the confirmed lineup is revealed.

Taylor Swift’s Transformation Into An Irrational Football Fan Is Complete

taylor swift refs
FOX

The Kansas City Chiefs have been struggling offensively of late, at least relative to the sky-high expectations they’ve set for themselves with Patrick Mahomes under center.

This year, the Chiefs have had a middling offense and have struggled to both sustain and finish drives in the way we’re accustomed to seeing, largely because of an inconsistent passing attack. Drops have been a big issue for the Chiefs this year, as their receiving corps has been a disappointment, and even the tight ends, headlined by Travis Kelce, have had a tough last month-plus. However, a reprieve appeared to be coming Kansas City’s way on Sunday as they were in a prime “get right” spot against a woefully bad Patriots team.

While it took a bit to get going, the Chiefs eventually hit their stride to take a 27-10 lead in the second half. It could’ve been an even bigger lead, but a couple red zone possessions stalled out and resulted in field goals. One of those came in the early third quarter when a third down pass to Kelce in the back of the end zone fell incomplete, with the star tight end doing his best to flop and draw an interference penalty to get a first down. That was unsuccessful, but it did yield a new reaction meme in the form of Taylor Swift dropping an f-bomb trying to figure out where the flag was.

Watching Taylor Swift morph into a rabid Chiefs fan has been at true delight to watch this season, as she’s gone from happily cheering for big Kelce plays when they first started publicly dating to now being a full-on irrational fan like the rest of us. The telltale sign of that transformation is dropping f-bombs at the refs for not throwing flags on pretty clear non-calls, and Taylor puts her whole chest into this one.

This is what three months of being locked in on football will do to someone and it’s just nice to get confirmation in real time that it’s inevitable for anyone.

Time Continues To Be Irrelevant As Brenda Lee’s 1958 Christmas Hit Is No. 1 On The Hot 100 Chart For A Second Week

Every Monday, Billboard unveils the top 10 songs on the latest Hot 100 chart. The most recent rankings, for the chart dated December 16, are out now, so let’s run down who had this week’s biggest hits.

10. Doja Cat — “Paint The Town Red”

The Hot 100 is certainly painted red (and green) this week, thanks to the holiday songs coming up next on this list. Doja’s hit is among the few non-holiday tunes hanging around this week’s top 10, though.

9. SZA — “Snooze”

One of the others is SZA’s “Snooze.” This week actually marks a full year on the Hot 100 for SZA’s SOS single.

8. Andy Williams — “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year”

Williams’ Christmas classic has helped him make some history: As Billboard notes, “The late singer now sports a record span of 64 years, two months, and one week from his first week in the top 10 with ‘Lonely Street’ in October 1959 through his latest frame.”

7. Taylor Swift — “Cruel Summer”

Even through the holiday rush, Swift is unstoppable, as she remains in the top 10 with a song that was originally released in 2019 but has become a gigantic hit here in 2023.

6. Burl Ives — “A Holly Jolly Christmas”

Ives is one of the holiday regulars, as “A Holly Jolly Christmas” routinely returns to the charts. Its previous peak was at No. 4, so let’s see if it’s able to top that this year.

5. Jack Harlow — “Lovin On Me”

In terms of non-holiday songs, Harlow is No. 1 this week with “Lovin On Me,” which previously became the rapper’s third No. 1 single (Christmas classic or otherwise).

4. Wham! — “Last Christmas”

“Last Christmas” has so far peaked at No. 4 on the Hot 100 and the enduring 1984 favorite finds itself back at that personal-best summit this week.

3. Bobby Helms — “Jingle Bell Rock”

The same is true for Helms in terms of re-achieving its previous peak. It’s also the oldest song of the holiday bunch, as it was originally released in 1957.

2. Mariah Carey — “All I Want For Christmas Is You”

Carey has gotten used to having the No. 1 Christmas song of the past few years, but so far during this holiday season, she hasn’t been able to reclaim the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100.

1. Brenda Lee — “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree”

“Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” went No. 1 for the first time ever last week, and the 1958 hit holds onto that spot this week, too, for a second total week at No. 1. There seem to be no hard feelings between Carey and Lee, by the way: After Lee topped the chart last week, Carey sent her some flowers with a congratulatory note.

How Much Does Spotify Pay For 1 Million Streams?

spotify

Many musicians are coming to understand that when Jay-Z rapped, “I ain’t got a billion streams, but I got a billion dollars,” it wasn’t so much a flex but rather a dig at new-age music tech. As Spotify Wrapped continues to hold users’ timelines in a chokehold, fans are blown away by the sheer amount of listening time they racked up.

The platform’s year-end report revealed that the most streamed artists on the service were Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, and The Weeknd. Although Swift is no surprise, her alleged $100 million streaming revenue for the year shocked users. “Weird Al” Yankovic joked about bringing in $12 for his 80 million streams. Meanwhile, Snoop Dogg revealed he brought in $45,000 from 1 billion streams.

The mathematical sorcery of the payouts has folks questioning how much Spotify pays for one million streams. According to the late Nipsey Hussle, as an independent artist owning all his masters, for one million streams on Spotify in 2018, he would bring about $4,370, which a new royalties calculator developed by the legal and consulting firm Manatt, Phelps & Phillips somewhat corroborates with a minor tweak.

According to the calculator, with one million streams on Spotify, the payout is estimated at $4,830. A total of $3,719 is awarded to the sound recording owners, whereas $598 is given to the mechanical rights holder, and the performance rights holder gets $513.

The streaming giant doesn’t list the momentary amount per stream on its royalties page. Instead, the company gives its overall calculation method. “We calculate streamshare by tallying the total number of streams in a given month and determining what proportion of those streams were people listening to music owned or controlled by a particular rightsholder,” reads the website.
