Rihanna’s Super Bowl Halftime Show Was Apparently Porn-Like, According To Some Of The 103 FFC Complaints It Received

Like the passage of time and Pusha T dropping a Cocaine Bear remix, FCC (Federal Communications Commission) complaints about major TV events are an inevitability. So, it turns out that some people out there didn’t particularly care for Rihanna’s Super Bowl Halftime Show earlier this month, so much so that they let the FCC know about it (as TMZ reports).

The publication notes that of the 103 FCC complaints made about the Super Bowl broadcast on February 12, “almost all of them” were about Rihanna’s performance. One viewer wrote in their complaint, “This year the halftime show was so indecent I had to turn off the TV because of the pornographic content.” Another compared it to Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ “Unholy” performance at the 2023 Grammys, writing, “I don’t care what someone worships but children shouldn’t be exposed to pornography and as an adult I don’t wish to see it. […] Where has decency gone? How about respect for others and self?”

Others made note of “overtly sexual dancing” in the performance, with one person saying Rihanna’s background dancers had moves that “were patently offensive and completely inappropriate for children.” Another person noted of Rihanna, “She spread her ass cheek at the crack. She rubbed her pants where her labia were three times.”

As TMZ notes, though, this is nothing to the infamous Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake wardrobe malfunction at the 2004 Super Bowl, which drew 540,000 complaints at the time.

Rihanna stepped out with A$AP Rocky to celebrate her 35th birthday. TMZ spotted the two headed to Giorgia Baldi in Santa Monica, which was prepped with decorations to celebrate the special occasion.

The A-list couple was joined by Rihanna’s bestie Melissa Forde and her brother Rorrey Fenty.

Rihanna’s birthday celebration comes before a second dose of motherhood. Last week, Rihanna hit the pages of British Vogue, and she killed every single one of those pictures. Fresh off her Super Bowl performance, Rihanna’s story highlights what her journey into motherhood is like, summarizing it as a “headf**k.”

“You don’t sleep. At all,” Rihanna said. “Not even if you wanted to.”

She added, “Man, you’re a zombie for the most part. You’re just going through the motions, and even then you’re so paranoid.”

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky have yet to reveal their son’s name. He was born in May 2022, and the delivery was an intimate affair.

“It was just us as parents and our baby,” Rihanna said.. “You’re like, ‘They trusted us to come home with this baby? This new life? With us? No doctors, no nurses, we’re just … going home?’”

Rihanna didn’t know that she was pregnant again during the interview, but she mentioned she was open to more children.

Nicki Minaj Reacts To Rihanna’s Son & Super Bowl Performance

Nicki Minaj congratulated Rihanna on her “new bundle of joy” and for killing it during her halftime show for Super Bowl LVII in a comment on Instagram. Minaj was responding to Rihanna’s post labeling her baby “fine,” for which she received backlash from fans.

“My son so fine! Idc idc idc! How crazy both of my babies were in these photos and mommy had no clue. thank you so much @edward_enninful and @inezandvinoodh for celebrating us as a family!” Rihanna captioned the photo of herself with her song. Minaj commented in response: “a lil pretty boy already. Congratulations on the new bundle of joy, Queen. Bodied Super Bowl.”

Rihanna’s Post

Rihanna reflected on the birth of her son during an interview with British Vogue after her Super Bowl performance. She gave birth to the child back in May 2022. “Man, you’re a zombie for the most part,” she said of the first few months. “You’re just going through the motions and even then you’re so paranoid. Because you’re like: they trusted us to come home with this baby? This new life? With us? No doctors, no nurses, we’re just… going home?” Despite the worries, Rihanna says that she and A$AP Rocky didn’t opt to hire a nanny. Instead, they handled all of the parenting duties themselves.

She added: “It’s everything. You really don’t remember life before, that’s the craziest thing ever. You literally try to remember it – and there are photos of my life before – but the feeling, the desires, the things that you enjoy, everything, you just don’t identify with it because you don’t even allow yourself mentally to get that far, because…. Because it doesn’t matter.”

Minaj welcomed her own son, who she refers to publically as “Papa Bear,” in September 2020. Minaj has been married to Kenneth Petty since 2019. Similar to Rihanna, Minaj spoke about feeling more anxious when she first gave birth to Papa Bear. “I hate that I have more anxiety now because you’re like, ‘What if the one time I leave my child, I get that phone call?” she told E! News at the time. “I think moms feel like they have to be perfect.”

Shaq Defends Rihanna’s Super Bowl Performance Against Critics: “Shut It Up”

As the Super Bowl celebrations continue for the Kansas City Chiefs, Rihanna’s halftime performance is still being discussed. The singer floated through several fan-favorite classics during her 14-minute show, but it wasn’t her music that stole attention. Ri used her huge NFL opportunity to reveal her second pregnancy, although she didn’t detail how far along she is just yet. The performance was praised by the singer’s fans, and highlights have flooded social media. However, not everyone was impressed, and Shaq didn’t want to hear another peep from critics.

“I want to say this,” Shaq began during a recent interview. “All you people disrespecting my Rihanna, shut your face. Shut it up. Like, we livin’ in a world where people got too much freedom. Keep you **** to yourself. She did a wonderful job, she’s pregnant, she blessed it, she did her thang. She didn’t fall. Just leave it there.”

He continued: “All you superstars that’s disrespectful and causing beef, shut your face. Shut it up.” Shaq added that if Ri was his lady and he heard about celebrities shading the singer, he would check them. The NBA icon said, “Rappers, presidential candidates, I would have to get at you. Leave this woman alone. Rihanna is Rihanna. I was there, it was beautiful. She did a great job. I didn’t know she was pregnant until she bust out, but leave her alone.”

Shaq’s comments circulated on the heels of WWE icon Bill Goldberg expressing his disappointment with Rihanna’s performance. “I thought Rihanna was frickin’ horrible,” he said during the CarCast podcast this week. “I was disgusted by it. That’s all. Let’s just say that. I thought it was horrible.” It seems Goldberg had an issue with Rihanna’s genital wiping gesture during the show.

Regardless of critics, the halftime display’s viewership outnumbered that of the Super Bowl itself. It marked Rihanna’s return to the stage following a seven-year absence, and it opened up possibilities for an album release and potential tour. Check out Shaq defending Rihanna above.

Here’s How Rihanna’s Levitating Backup Dancers Rehearsed For The Super Bowl Halftime Show

Rihanna’s Super Bowl LVII halftime show performance still has the world talking (including radio pundit Howard Stern). Whether the public is raving about her pregnancy reveal, the clothes she wore (inspired by the late fashion icon André Leon Talley), the high-energy ASL performer that translated for her, or making memes about her floating set design, the “Work” singer is a trending topic across the internet — not just Spotify’s music charts.

Now, the Oscar nominee’s featured background dancers during Super Bowl LVII are providing fans with a behind-the-scenes look at how they prepared for the elaborate moving set design. One dancer by the name of Siah Helise, took to social media to share raw rehearsal footage with a lengthy caption outlining her personal journal as a dancer as well as how she and others were prepped for Rihanna’s set.

“Week one, I was learning these steps on the ground, and the next week I was told I would be dancing 60 ft in the motherf*cking air on a platform,” wrote the dancer, adding, “This footage is super rough this is one of the first couple of days of being on the platforms. This ish was NOT easy.” Ultimately, Helise was unable to perform at the Super Bowl due to COVID, but she wanted viewers of the big game to know how much work went into the 13-minute mini-concert.

Helise wasn’t the only performer sharing clips. The choreographer Parris Goebel, who’s worked with Rihanna in the past for her annual Fenty Fashion Show, also uploaded clips of rehearsal, thanking Rihanna for tapping her once again for such a major career milestone.

The Kansas City Chief players may not have been banned from watching Rihanna’s set live, but they now have both the full performance clip and behind-the-scenes teasers to look back on.

Rihanna Didn’t Call Katy Perry, Friend And Fellow Super Bowl Halftime Show Performer, For Advice (Which Perry Understands)

Rihanna is of course fresh off performing the Super Bowl Halftime Show. Just a few years ago, though, it was Katy Perry’s turn in the NFL spotlight, when she put on a memorable Super Bowl performance of her own (never forget Left Shark) in 2015. Rihanna and Perry are friends, but despite having a former Super Bowl halftime performer at her disposal, Rihanna opted not to seek advice about the big show from Perry (which Perry totally gets, by the way).

Perry and Lionel Richie were on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night (February 16) to promote American Idol. During the interview, Kimmel asked Perry if Rihanna called her before the Super Bowl looking for some halftime show insight, and Perry said, “She don’t need no pointers: she’s Rihanna!”

The host then wondered if Perry knew about Rihanna’s pregnancy beforehand. She noted that she was filming American Idol in Hawaii on the day of the Super Bowl, and that she had to go to set right when Rihanna was about to start her performance. She continued, “So we were trying to drag our feet, because we all want to see Rihanna play the Super Bowl. We actually had to film and then it happened and we came back, and we found a cut of it, and no, we all saw it then for the first time then, and it was amazing! It was so beautiful.”
