Summer Walker Pours Her Heart Out On Our New “R&B Season” Playlist Update: Stream

As October comes to a close, our latest R&B Season playlist update rounded up the best of the best genre-related cuts that dropped this week to give you some new jams for the spooky season. First off, Summer Walker made her return with her new single “Heart Of A Woman,” which contains an unsurprisingly soulful and soothing vocal performance. A relationship is on the rocks here lyrically, and the instrumental highlight here is a deliciously woozy synth line that falls really well in the background. Elsewhere, stark drums and watery synth pads flesh the cut out to create a pretty intoxicating atmosphere.

Keeping those sultry R&B vibes up is the latest record from Shanuka, “Wicked” with Wakai. This is even more of a slow-burner, as the choppy but resonant bass tone gives the song a languid but wholly hypnotizing feel that’s bolstered by dreamy synths and some percussive embellishments. There’s also a nasal rap verse on here that fits the cut’s smoky vibe like a glove, amping up the lust and addictive desire that the lyrics display. In other words, it’s a great late night drive track.

As for more tender offerings on R&B Season this week, Fridayy came through with the lush and passionate single “Back To You.” Thanks to some gorgeous background vocals, light piano keys, his trademark deep voice, and some varied drums on the song, this dramatizes an infatuation with a lot of personality and steadily building melodies. If you’re looking for something a bit more akin to a hip-hop beat, then perhaps Roy Woods’ latest record “Hold Still” will be right up your alley. But don’t think that he doesn’t still come through with some hazy vocal harmonies and melodic dominance.

Finally, we wanted to give a shoutout to AUDRÉ’s new song “U on U” for its striking but minimal guitar lines that do a lot with a little. They anchor the rest of the single’s elements thanks to their presence in the mix, but the highlight here is still her vocal performance. Let us know what your favorite R&B Season playlist pick was this week, as well as what else we missed, down in the comments section below. Check the playlist out above and, as always, stick around on HNHH for more amazing music releases around the clock.

Summer Walker Teases Upcoming Album Again With Complicated Relationship Cut “Heart Of A Woman”

Summer Walker has been in the background more since her sophomore album, Still Over It. That was a 2021 project and a sequel and follow-up to her studio debut Over It back in 2019. She does have her 2023 CLEAR 2: SOFT LIFE EP. But overall, she’s been assisting mostly in that period. 21 Savage, Bakar, Sexyy Red, Hunxho, and USHER have been beneficiaries. But in the month of October, the Atlanta, Georgia product is focused with getting back on the solo tracks. This weekend, Summer Walker has delivered “Heart Of A Woman,” her second single from her upcoming third LP, Finally Over It, which all but signifies the conclusion to what will now be a trilogy.

This series has focused on the difficulties of getting over past flings. Given the title and the content of “Heart Of A Woman,” though, Summer appears to be done with the games. This single was teased on October 11 via “+1(404) 476-6404.” It’s a voicemail of a man that she’s still dealing with, and he’s confessing his love for her amid their issues. You can hear the chorus of “Heart Of A Woman” playing in the background and it seems like they will be placed next to each other on the final tracklist. On “HOAW”, Walker is looking to end the relationship. But she’s clinging on for some reason, despite her growing disdain for him. It’s a painful but beautiful listen, as her vocals gingerly glide over the lowkey instrumental. Stream the single with the music video link below.

Summer Walker Drops New Single “Heart Of A Woman”

Summer Walker Announces Oct. 25 Release Date for "Heart of a Woman" Single

Grammy-nominated R&B sensation Summer Walker (LVRN/Interscope Records) returns with her powerful new single, “Heart Of A Woman.”

The soulful track explores the emotional rollercoaster of love and will feature on her much-anticipated third album, Finally Over It. In the song, Summer delves into the frustration and heartache of a tumultuous relationship, passionately singing, “Wanna give up on you but damn I know I can’t / I put the blame on me taking chance after chance.” The lyric video pairs her heartfelt words with scenes of Love Island USA Season 6 winners Serena Page and Kordell Beckham, capturing the raw emotions of love’s ups and downs.

Finally Over It will complete the trilogy that has marked Summer’s career, following her Billboard 200 chart-topping Still Over It (2021) and debut Over It (2019). This trilogy has solidified her as a leading voice in R&B, with fans eagerly awaiting her latest chapter.

Earlier this month, Walker hosted her second annual “Buy Black Women Sh*t” initiative in Atlanta. This event, in partnership with LVRN Cares, highlighted Black women-owned businesses with discounts and exclusive products, demonstrating her dedication to empowering underrepresented communities. *Finally Over It* promises to continue showcasing the depth and honesty that defines Summer Walker’s music and message.

Summer Walker Warns Not To Play With The ‘Heart Of A Woman’ In Her Gracious New Single

Listeners better heed the words of Summer Walker‘s gracious new single, “Heart Of A Woman.” The throwback-sounding R&B ballad warns a fella who’s been slipping that the “only thing that’s saving you is the heart of a woman.” The graciously minded new track will appear on Summer’s upcoming third album, Finally Over It, and in keeping with the theme, it sounds less confrontational than her past output. Instead, she’s exasperated, fed up, and resigned — which is, to all you younger cats out there, never a good thing, trust me.

Walker has been teasing a new project for the past few weeks, updating streamers with the title of her upcoming third album, while leaving fans to guess at just how “over it” she really was, until finally revealing the “Finally” part on October 11, along with the announcement for “Heart Of A Woman.” Although Walker has yet to reveal the release date for the upcoming album, it’s already one of the most anticipated new music releases of the year, thanks to the warm reception of her prior releases, Over It and Still Over It. They both set new records in terms of R&B and with the excitement for number three reaching all-time highs, you can bet Finally Over It will make just as much of a splash.

You can listen to “Heart Of A Woman” above.

Summer Walker Teases Her New Album With The Help Of Ex Lil Meech

Summer Walker has been one of the steadiest voices in R&B for the last five years. She has dropped multiple stellar projects since her 2018 debut, and her latest, Finally Over It, appears to be the third in a series that started with Over It. It can be tough to find clever ways to market new singles and generate buzz, especially for a veteran artist, but Summer Walker found a way. The singer posted a mock video with a voicemail from her ex, Lil Meech. The rapper recreated an infamous social media exchange from 2023, and it worked like a charm.

Some context for the aforementioned exchange. Summer Walker and Lil Meech split up in 2023 after it was alleged that the latter was unfaithful. Ring footage of Lil Meech walking into a woman’s apartment went viral, and the rapper tried to play it off via social media. “Damn,” he wrote. “I can’t help my cousin bring the bags in the house? We went to the grocery store, man.” The explanation was clowned by the fans, who noted that nobody on the Ring camera appeared to be carrying anything. The voicemail that Meech leaves in the Summer Walker promo is a direct reference to the groceries comment. “You gon do me like that,” he asks over the phone. “I was just helping my cousin with the groceries.”

Summer Walker And Lil Meech Remain On Good Terms

Summer Walker and Lil Meech may have split, but the two artists have seemingly kept a good sense of humor about each other since. In December 2023, Meech announced that his first child was on the way. Summer Walker left a hilarious response in the Neighborhood Talk comment section reading: “different cousin.” Lil Meech has reciprocated the positive energy in interviews. During a sit down chat with The Morning Hustle, the rapper assured fans that he still has love for Summer Walker.

“Me and Summer,” he asserted. “We still have love for each other but we both went our separate ways.” The rapper also complimented Walker’s music and the quality of her character. “We can stay cool and be good,” Meech added. “We don’t go no problems with each other. She’s an amazing singer. She’s a good person so we good.” Walker’s new album doesn’t have a release date yet, but the lead single, “Heart of a Woman,” is currently available to pre-save.

Summer Walker, in one way or another, is “over it,” and has been for a few years now. It started with her 2019 debut album Over It, then continued with its follow-up, 2021’s Still Over It. Earlier this month, Walker revealed the next part of the Over It saga is coming.

She teased the project last week by revealing the album has a three-word title, following the Still Over It formula with a word before “Over It.”

Today (October 11), she made the big reveal on Instagram: The album is called Finally Over It. There’s no announced release date yet, but we do have a new single, “Heart Of A Woman,” on the way (at a date that has also yet to be revealed).

Walker’s teaser video shows Walker in her bedroom, listening to voicemails on her phone. One message from a mystery man says, “Damn, you gotta do me like that? I was just helping my cousin with groceries. Hit me back when you can talk. I know you’re finally over it, but damn, let’s talk about it, I love you.” Walker eventually is overtaken by emotion as she smashes the drink she’s holding.

The post also shares a phone number: “call me before I change my number 4044766404 & presave Heart of A Woman now!”

Five years ago to the day, Summer Walker released her debut album, Over It. Today, not only did she celebrate the release of her debut, but she also announced her third album via Spotify. In keeping with the theme established by her first two albums Over It and Still Over It, Walker’s next full-length will also have “Over It” in the title, but for now, she’s keeping the adjective a mystery.

The announcement of Summer’s new album arrives three years after Still Over It was released in November 2021. Since then, she’s reached her goal of having “hella babies” with the birth of her twins, released the 2023 EP Clear 2: Soft Life, and appeared on projects from the likes of Lil Tjay, Usher, and Sexyy Red, while dropping a slew of remixes to her fan-favorite breakout single, “Girls Need Love.”

Walker’s latest iteration of Over It will have some pretty high expectations; the first one broke a long-standing streaming record in 2019, while the second became the first No. 1 album from a female R&B star in five years. While there’s no release date or single information yet, it’s probably a safe bet that the rollout will begin sometime early next year, so it doesn’t get caught in the dead holiday season this year. Stay tuned.

On September 22, Summer Walker (LVRN/Interscope Records) celebrated the upcoming anniversary of her debut mixtape, Last Day of Summer, by giving back to her community with the relaunch of her “Buy Black Women Sh*t” initiative. Held on the final day of summer, the initiative spotlighted Black women-owned businesses in Atlanta that promote self-care. Fans were treated to discounts, products, and more from local entrepreneurs.

Partnering with LVRN Cares, the philanthropic arm of her label, the event showcased businesses like City Dogz, Lot23 Chandler, The Secret Garden, The Lash Vault, and Atlanta Curves. The directory will remain available on Walker’s website until September 22, 2025.

Walker first launched “Buy Black Women Sh*t” on September 22, 2022, a day officially recognized as “Summer Walker Day” in Atlanta.

Last Day of Summer, released in October 2018, propelled Walker into stardom, spawning the multi-platinum single “Girls Need Love” and its popular remix featuring Drake. In 2024, Walker’s third EP Clear 2: Soft Life earned a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album. She also received two NAACP Image Award nominations for her collaboration “Good Good” with Usher and 21 Savage, which was also up for Best R&B Video at the 2024 MTV VMAs.
