Sexyy Red Joins SZA In St. Louis For Hometown Show

SZA is on her second run of the incredibly successful SOS tour, which recently touched down in her hometown of St. Louis, Missouri on Wednesday (October 11). Moreover, she’s been having a fantastic time, so much so that she hinted at her Brooklyn show that she might do a mini-tour for SOS‘ deluxe, Lana. However, the TDE singer wanted to give her hometown fans a special surprise, too, and who better to tap for it than another native of the city? Furthermore, none other than Sexyy Red joined her onstage to perform their joint appearance on Drake’s new album For All The Dogs, “Rich Baby Daddy.” By throwing it back, screaming the lyrics alongside the crowd, and just giving off some fun-loving energy, we’re sure plenty of St. Louis fans felt pretty fulfilled.

Of course, their styles are very different, but that’s not as important of a factor when you’re witnessing a live performance. After all, it seemed like SZA was just as excited as Sexyy Red- if not more- as they sang the infectious “hands on your knees” chorus. If nothing else, it was great to see them enjoy the show and tap into their fanbases, artistic directions, and energies. All we can hope for is that this isn’t their last collab, whether onstage or on wax.

It’s been a wild rise for her this year, and with about three months to close it out, who knows what she could do next?

Meanwhile, the “Gone Girl” superstar is still riding high off of the success of SOS while giving us more stellar material. There’s a lot to celebrate when it comes to these two artists, and it seems like they’re poised to keep that energy up into 2024. Let’s see what they cook up! SZA Has A Blast Onstage In Brooklyn, Teases Mini “Lana” Tour

Over the weekend, SZA brought her SOS tour to Brooklyn, gracing the stage at Barclays Center on October 6 and 7. By the looks of things, the hitmaker had a blast, going wild onstage and showing off her moves in a new clip making its rounds online. The NYC crowd certainly matched her energy, praising the hitmaker for her enthusiastic performance on social media.

SZA is scheduled to perform in the midwest next, stopping in Chicago and St. Louis before heading to the south. She’ll wrap up her SOS tour in December, closing with dates in Phoenix, NYC, and Boston. It’s no secret that SZA puts on some impressing live performances, and it looks like fans could be in for even more shows. The “Kill Bill” songstress took to Twitter recently, sharing that she’s been considering going on an “intimate mini tour” in support of the deluxe edition of her SOS album, Lana.

SZA Shows Off Her Dance Moves

“Was thinking I wanna do an intimate mini tour for deluxe,” she wrote. SZA made it clear, however, that she’ll only be stopping in the cities that have shown her the most love throughout her SOS tour. “But ONLY in the most turnt cities form SOS tour,” she added. “I made a list . Y’all deserve a reward . I’m so grateful.” The only cities she’s seemingly confirmed as a sure bet for the hypothetical tour are Atlanta and Baltimore.

Fans are out in full force, pleading her to come to their respective cities. Though she’s yet to officially announce anything, supporters are looking forward to more news on the Lana tour. What do you think of SZA’s dance moves at her Brooklyn SOS tour stop? Are you looking forward to her potential mini Lana tour? Why Did SZA Postpone Her Toronto Show?

SZA staged a very successful North American leg of her SOS Tour earlier this year — so successful that it necessitated a second leg. Still, the perpetual chart-topper was forced to postpone her March 2 date in Philadelphia to September 26 “due to unforeseen logistical/production issues,” as she posted at the time. A similar script played out on Wednesday night, October 4.

“IM SO SORRY TORONTO !!” SZA captioned an Instagram video. “I ONLY WANNA GIVE YOU GUYS 1000% because that’s what u deserve. U didn’t come to see me at 20% n hear other ppl sing from the crowd.. u came to see the FULL SHOW !!! For that reason I have to reschedule. I promise to give y’all EVERYTHING I got when I come back. I love you!”

In the accompanying video, SZA is holding a microphone while she explains, “Hey, gang. I’m here at [Scotiabank Arena]. I just tried to do soundcheck. I sound terrible. I only wanna give you guys a hundred percent, and that’s what you deserve. I won’t give you any less than that. I promise you, I will come back, Toronto, and make it up.”

She continued, “I’m so sorry. I wanted to push through very much. I’m on as much Dexamethasone as one can be on, and I love you and I promise you, I will be back. I tried. I came. I got in hair and makeup and all the things. I love you. I’m really sorry.”

While fans in Toronto are likely sad, this could be a blessing in disguise. Drake commented on SZA’s video, “We gon do that sh*t together when you come back lemme open for you [angel emoji].”

Of course, SZA is the featured artist on Drake’s “Slime You Out” from September 15, releasing one month after SZA attended Drake and 21 Savage’s It’s All A Blur Tour in disguise. “Slime You Out” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated September 30.

SZA’s next scheduled SOS Tour date is this Friday, October 6, at Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York. See all of her remaining dates here.

What Time Does SZA Come Out On Stage?

SZA’s sophomore album, SOS, has continued to dominate R&B. After its release in early December 2022, the album maintained momentum on the music charts thanks to the staying power of such singles as “Kill Bill.” Since February, fans have shown their devotion to the musician, turning up to her high-grossing SOS Tour in record numbers.

On September 20, SZA kicked off the second North American leg of her SOS Tour. So what time does she come out on stage? Before she can do that, though, her supporting act, d4vd, will prepare the crowd for the night. According to Setlist.Fm, the doors for the SOS Tour open as early as 6 p.m.

The site revealed that, on average, d4vd performs his set at least an hour after the venue lets ticketholders in. From the reported dates, d4vd’s performance lasts 1 hour and 10 minutes. This means SZA takes the stage around 9 p.m. local time, as documented by WPST. At the latest, Setlist.fm users report that SZA takes the stage by 9:15 p.m. SZA’s performance duration is reportedly 1 hour and 45 minutes.

These times fluctuate depending on the location. For an up-to-date run of the show, be sure to check the venue’s website.

Here Is d4vd’s ‘SOS Tour’ North America Setlist

D4vd is continuing to bring his Petals To Thorns Tour across North America, as well as some shows opening for SZA’s SOS Tour. While his final date with her is October 29, he will then be heading to Asia to play concerts in Japan, South Korea, and more. Because of his worldwide reach and becoming a rising star, fans heading to see d4vd might be wondering what songs they should memorize.

So far, most of the songs selected have been from d4vd’s Petals To Thorns album that dropped in May — including “Sleep Well” and “The Bridge.” He has also been adding some picks from his recent EP, The Lost Petals, with “Notes From A Wrist.”

Outside of his opening slot with SZA, he has also added more songs like “Rehab,” “Backstreet Girl,” “Placebo Effect,” and others — for those who are catching him outside of the SOS Tour.

To view a complete list of his upcoming tour dates through February 2024, along with tickets, visit his website here.

Continue scrolling to view d4vd’s latest setlist, according to setlist.fm, from his time opening for SZA in Nashville over the weekend.

1. “Worthless”
2. “Notes From A Wrist”
3. “Sleep Well”
4. “Take Me To The Sun”
5. “Here With Me”
6. “Poetic Vulgarity”
7. “The Bridge”
8. “Romantic Homicide”

d4vd Is Focused On The Process Of Evolution Rather Than What Might Come From It

d4vd’s rise to fame happened at the speed of light. This hyperbole accurately describes how the 18-year-old Houston native went from an active video gamer who uploaded clips of himself playing Fortnite to YouTube (where he tallied 15 million views in total) to a touring musical act who is set to hit the road with SZA for her second leg of the SOS Tour. It’s all happened in the blink of an eye, but don’t be mistaken, d4vd is extremely talented as his debut EP Petals To Thorns proves.

The nine-track project is one that d4vd used to excellently capture a rise and fall in love. The petals — the first half — represent the good moments, while the thorns and final half of the project capture the bad and the eventual end of the relationship. Just three months after releasing Petals To Thorns, d4vd is back with another project: The Lost Petals. This new body of work contains just five songs and lives as the aftermath of the events on Petals To Thorns.

Together with the arrival of The Lost Petals, Uproxx caught up with d4vd to talk about his rise in the music world, The Lost Petals, touring with SZA, and his future plans for both music and gaming.

You’ve had a quick rise to fame, which can be a bit rattling for anyone. How have you adjusted and does it feel a bit normal now?

Yeah, it’s always been normal. I feel like I’ve acclimated well. I was home-schooled for four years so being outside was like a need for me. I was inside the house for way too long. So as soon as the time came for me to start going on tour, things like that, going on press runs, [and] traveling to different countries, it was like boom, this is what I needed to get out of the house. So I ran with it.

If you had to take all your influences, what qualities would you take from each one to make the artist you are? Like who most inspired your writing? Singing style? Artistic direction?

My biggest writing inspiration isn’t even in music. It’s an author from Japan named Hajime Isayama who wrote Shingeki no Kyojin, most famously known as Attack On Titan. Yeah, so Hajime Isayama for my writing, sonically it’d be Chet Baker and Michael Jackson. My stage presence? Michael Jackson and maybe XXXTentacion.

You’re a couple of months removed from your Petals To Thorns project. What would you say you’re most proud of about it?

The theme. I feel like sonically, it made sense, and the theme was very clear. I tried my best to tell the story with it. Having all the songs made already, without even having the intention of making a project that had to be cohesive, is mind-blowing to me. Everything was already done before I even had an idea of making an EP. But just being me and being a storyteller, it kind of just worked anyway. So I’m very proud of storytelling. Looking at the rose, having the thorns all representing love, just the theme of going through a relationship from top to bottom. It was just cohesive.

Now we have your The Lost Petals project, which fits into the world of Petals To Thorns. Do they fall in line with the original project or would you say this is more of a different perspective?

If we’re talking experience-wise, Petals To Thorns is the concert, you’ve been at the show, and “The Bridge” is leaving the show and now, The Lost Petals is that post-show depression. So it’s very sad, there’s not one single happy song. The way “The Bridge” left off, this [The Lost Petals] picks up and then it’s kind of like the conclusion. It’s like a closing of the book, two chapters being Petals To Thorns and The Lost Petals]. We’re closing that book and we’re moving on after that.

What would you credit most to your success?

My faith in God bro because God did amazing things early on. The way it kind of worked instrumentally with the gaming and everything. It’s like all the full circle moments of me wanting to be a professional esports player so bad that I was like tunnel vision into that one goal. But then, as soon as the copyright strikes hit, the gaming kind of pushed the music and the music started to push the gaming and they kind of worked together and they both went up at the same time. I don’t know, it would not have happened if it weren’t for those copyright strikes.

You’ve had a couple of tours already in your career, and now, you’ll be joining SZA on her SOS North American Tour. What experience do you hope to take from that may be different from the others?

The audience, of course. Playing in front of 10,000-15,000 people, that’s gonna be insane. I feel like getting used to not being so close to the crowd because it gives you a chance to really be a performer. When you’re that close to the crowd, really feeding off of them, but [at arenas], sometimes you can’t see everybody especially when you’re on that big stage and it feels like it’s just you up there. I feel like the nerves kind of go away when you can’t see. I feel like I’ve had the most nerve-wracking experience when I’m playing in front of maybe three people doing a little acoustic performance or even doing a music video shoot. But when it’s that many people it kind of becomes you and I’m just excited to see myself progress in that stage.

Stepping off music for a second, you said that music and gaming have worked hand-in-hand for you. What are some plans you have for the gaming world next?

I want to leak too much, but I literally just left a meeting about gaming. I’m working a lot on Fortnite stuff, the new Fortnite season is dropping, and everybody’s on the game again. Gaming is going back on the radar, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is dropping. I’m working hand in hand and being more in the gaming space and telling a story because that’s where I came from. I’m more of a gamer than a musician, it’s telling that story even more. I’m working on scoring and a lot of soundtracking, too. The thing is with the Fortnite montages, I would make a Fortnite little montage and then make a song for it. So I was really doing scoring before I was even thinking about actually scoring. So having the opportunity to go back into my roots, and just be able to make music for the game that I’m such a fan of is insane to me. Maybe a concert in a Fortnite. A lot of stuff is coming gaming-wise, and 2024 is about to be lit on the controllers.

You’ve achieved a lot in such a short period of time, what are some goals you have for yourself going forward?

I want to make the best music possible. I feel like this past week I made my best music. I feel like I’m finding what I want to do. In terms of the artistry. I produced on a song for the first time two days ago. I’m getting used to being back on the keys playing piano again and finding myself instrumentally. So just becoming a greater artist. I’m not very sentimental, but I really do enjoy the evolution of self rather than the fruits that come from it. I feel like the best goal for me is just to be a better me. So, 2024 is all about evolution. I feel like it’s gonna be very evident in the music, the visuals, and the creative surrounding everything. It’s going to be next level.

SZA Calls Out Unfaithful Ex-Boyfriend At London Concert

SZA revealed that her ex-boyfriend once cheated on her during a recent concert at London’s O2 Arena. Before beginning her song, “Nobody Gets Me,” she opened up about the experience and why it made it difficult for her to enjoy London.

“I never told anybody but, my boyfriend cheated on me in this city before,” SZA began her story as the crowd reacted. “It was terrible. That’s why I was really sad to come here but you guys made it better. Thank you!”

“This song is about my other trash ex-boyfriend,” SZA added as she began, “Nobody Gets Me.” The track is the fourth single from her second studio album, SOS and is among SZA’s personal favorites from the project. Appearing on Hot 97 last year, she discussed how the track is about her ex-fiancé and the arguments they’d have before their eventual breakup.

“This particular song in entirety is a story about my ex-fiancé and how we went through all these arguments, and we broke up,” she explained a the time. “And when we first broke up it was like terrible, and I just felt like I was gonna be doomed to be in hell for the rest of my life because nobody understood me the way he did […] The stories that I tell in that song about our arguments… That’s the theme on that. I feel like a lot of people don’t understand me but it’s okay.”

Travis Scott Attended SZA’s “SOS” Tour With “UTOPIA” Briefcase

Travis Scott has been taking every opportunity to promote his upcoming album, UTOPIA, as of late. He’s been teasing the LP’s drop using some unexpected methods, including being seen with security handcuffed to a briefcase with “UTOPIA” scratched onto it. He brought the briefcase along with him to Cannes Film Festival last month, teasing the album at the premiere of The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp’s new series, The Idol. Now, he’s brought the briefcase backstage on SZA’s “SOS” tour. New photos show the artist rocking a SZA t-shirt, while his security sits handcuffed to the famous briefcase.

Earlier this month, Travis Scott also joined SZA at her Amsterdam “SOS” tour stop. The two performed her songs “Love Galore” and “Low” together. It was recently also reported that Scott will also be featured on Lil Uzi Vert’s upcoming LP, The Pink Tape. Last month, he previewed a new track alongside Bad Bunny at a performance. The preview left fans to wonder whether or not the collab will be featured on his upcoming album.

Travis Scott Continues To Tease UTOPIA

Earlier this year, Epic Records CEO Sylvia Rhone told Billboard that fans can expect to hear the album this month. Though the album’s official release date is yet to be confirmed, fans are eagerly awaiting Scott’s latest effort. Social media users went wild with speculation earlier this month after Scott’s producer, Mike Dean, shared a photo on social media of him opening up the UTOPIA briefcase. Fan theories on the LP’s release date took over the comments section.

The artist also shared his thoughts on the meaning behind UTOPIA at the end of last month. He told Pin-Up magazine, “Utopia is something that people feel is so far-fetched and out of reach, some perfect state of mind.” He went on to say, “But you create it yourself. There are people who achieve utopia every day. They may not be the richest people with the dopest cribs, but it’s a utopia wherever they are, and that’s the most you can have.”

SZA & Doja Cat’s “Kill Bill (Remix)”: Review

SZA has recruited Doja Cat for a remix of her song “Kill Bill.” The original song comes from SZA’s latest album SOS which was a big release for the Top Dawg Entertainment songstress. After months of anticipation, teases, mixed messages, and more, it was released on December 9, 2022. SZA promoted the album with a tour and has been taking to stages from coast to coast.

“Kill Bill” was one of the biggest songs on the album, with the name generating buzz before people even heard the song. The title was inspired by Quentin Tarantino’s famed franchise of the same name. Fans have seen SZA and Doja Cat work together before for their Grammy-winning hit “Kiss It Better,” but this song differs from that one in essentially every way.

Original “Kill Bill” Music Video Pays Homage Films

SZA and Doja Cat dropped the “Kill Bill” remix on April 14. Before this, the original song was a single from the album with an accompanying music video. It was directed by Christian Breslauer. Naturally, the visual paid homage to Tarantino’s films. SZA can be seen in a red leather suit much akin to the yellow one the character named The Bride (Uma Thurman) wore in the film. The singer also rides a red motorcycle, and again, The Bride’s was yellow in the film.

Additionally, the opening moments of the video reference one of the most popular scenes in the film. There’s even an animated portion in the clip, much like the anime in the film. These are just touches of how SZA’s team made sure to lean into Tarantino’s classic.

Doja Cat Beasts Out Bars

On the remix version of SZA’s “Kill Bill,” Doja Cat provides a rapped verse. Doja recently explained wanting to focus on rap and has been hinting at a full rap album. There have also been talks of her wanting to work with Jay Versace and 9th Wonder, which the rap world knows as high-level producers. Doja doubled down on this rap-focused career path in a series of recent tweets. Amid these tweets,  there was a retweet from Jay, validating her rap skills.

In the remix, Doja’s rap verse opens the song. Her bars tell a more detailed version of the events from SZA’s original version. Although she often incorporates singing into her music, this time, she held down rapping alone. The verse has a narrative feeling and gives the song a two-part storyline. Doja’s part is the aftermath of what SZA was speaking about. Listeners know SZA’s chorus opens with “I might kill my ex,” and by the time the song ends, she has switched to “I just killed my ex.” Unfortunately, there is no change in the production for Doja’s rapped verse. After hers ends, the song is like SZA’s original solo version.

The “Kill Bill” Remix Is A Treat For Fans

There is also a creative visualizer for SZA and Doja Cat’s “Kill Bill” remix. The visual plays on a loop, with some users believing it was the Spotify Canvas Art for the remix. However, this is not the case. The visualizer features an animated character that represents Doja Cat. She is wearing a red leather suit and carrying a mace. As she walks down a path, red windows with silhouettes are behind her. Characters referencing the Crazy 88 from Kill Bill attack her as she walks, and animated Doja fights them off with her weapon. The entire look of the visualizer resembles an old-school side-scrolling video game.

What did you think of Doja Cat’s verse on the “Kill Bill” remix? Let us know in the comments section.
