Rich Homie Quan’s Team Releases Tear-Jerking Music Video For “Song Cry”

Rich Homie Quan was sent off with a beautiful celebration of his life just two weeks ago, but it feels like a lifetime already. Every day that passes by without the Atlanta rapper seems like a decade has gone by. What we are trying to say is that us, along with the rest of the hip-hop world, miss him dearly. His funeral service showed that, as there was a massive turn out thanks to Quan’s father allowing the public to come and remember the beloved MC. The words spoken by fellow artists, DC Young Fly, and more show just how much he meant to everyone he came across. Whether it was his music or in-person interactions, he clearly touched many lives. Thankfully, the estate of Rich Homie Quan understands that because they have just dropped visuals for his posthumous record, “Song Cry”.

The song dropped just a day before the service, and it is a hard song to get through without tearing up. The same goes for the video, as it includes shots prior to his shocking death and the funeral, according to TMZ Hip Hop. Shots include some emotional reactions from all walks of life, as well as some white doves flying away at his burial site. It has been easy getting through this for anyone as evidenced by longtime girlfriend, Amber Williams. “This has to be the toughest thing I’ve ever endured,” she said in a tribute. “Don’t even know how to gather my words”. You can check out the new music video with the link below. Thoughts and prayers from the HNHH team continue to go out to the loved ones of RHQ.

Did Rod Wave Steal Jay-Z’s ‘Song Cry’ Lyrics?

Fans are noticing that one of Rod Wave‘s signature songs sounds similar to an old Jay-Z song. Earlier this week, music fans took to Twitter to express their disdain toward Wave, as he supposedly borrowed a few bars from Hov. That said, some are arguing that this is simply a case of interpolation — something that’s been a component of hip-hop since its birth 50 years ago.

Did Rod Wave steal Jay-Z’s ‘Song Cry’ lyrics?

On Wave’s song, “2019”, which was originally released in 2021, he raps “We was so happy poor but when we got rich / That’s when signals get crossed and we got flipped / Read her mind, I don’t know what made me leave that sh*t / Made me speed that quick, let me see that’s it.” This particular verse is bar-for-bar with Jay’s 2002 song “Song Cry.”

This particular set of lyrics has left fans divided, with some noting that Jay-Z had interpreted Biggie lyrics early on in his career.

“When Jay-Z did it y’all said he was just ‘paying homage,’” said one Twitter user. “This just shows us that Rod Wave is a master student of the game.”

Some also pointed out that Wave has previously interpolated bars by Boosie Badazz and Drake, but maintains an air of originality throughout his craft.

Wave has since denied stealing lyrics from other artists.

DVSN IF I GET CAUGHT ART

R&B duo dvsn, consisting of singer Daniel Daley and GRAMMY Award-winning producer Nineteen85 unveil their provocative, new single “If I Get Caught” accompanied by an equally thought-provoking new video via OVO Sound and Warner Records.

With the help of Jermaine Dupri, “If I Get Caught” samples “Song Cry” from JAY-Z’s seminal 2001 album The Blueprint. It twists the Hip Hop classic into a moral dilemma about infidelity and its impact on a relationship.

“If I get caught cheating, that don’t mean I don’t love you,” dvsn sings on the chorus.

Although it’s sung from the perspective of a man, in the rollout promo a mixed focus group of men and women in various relationship types solidified its theme as universal.

The controversial video directed by Andy Madeleine showcases Daniel Daley and his best friend Mal embarking on a night out with Jermaine Dupri making a cameo appearance. All while Daniel’s girlfriend is left at home to her own devices, assuming the worst about what the boys will get into.
