Wiz Khalifa Labels Himself & Snoop Dogg The New Cheech & Chong

Wiz Khalifa hasn’t outsmoked Snoop Dogg yet but the two are undoubtedly the most prolific stoners of our time. Snoop took Wiz under his wing after Wiz took off in the rap game. Since then, they’ve developed a strong bond with one another that they stamped with the success of “Young, Wild & Free” ft. Bruno Mars.

The song became the lead single from the soundtrack of the movie, Mac & Devin Go To High School. In the same way that Method Man and Redman delivered an iconic stoner film with How High, Mac & Dev served a similar purpose in Snoop and Wiz’s career. The film developed a strong cult following, despite the negative reviews.

The movie dropped over 10 years ago but the two are coming through with a sequel. Snoop announced a sequel to the film, titled High School Reunion, was coming this summer. The rapper shared photos of himself and Wiz smoking out in the studio when he shared the news. Then, Wiz the same photos and called himself an iteration of the iconic stoner duo, Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong. “We the new Cheech and Chong,” he captioned the post with the hashtag #HighSchoolReunion.

There’s little information regarding the upcoming sequel to Mac & Devin Go To High School. However, Wiz and Snoop have been plotting on its release for nearly a decade at this point. Snoop said in a 2014 interview that production companies wanted him and Wiz to produce a sequel. At the time, he also said that he and Wiz would deliver an accompanying soundtrack to the film, as well. However, it appears that the film was dropped shortly after only to be picked up, once again, over a decade after Mac & Devin Go To High School initially dropped.

Besides the new film, Wiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg have been tied to a Smoker’s Olympics. Last year, Styles P issued a challenge to all of hip-hop’s most notable smokers in hip-hop to see who can stand the longest in a smoke out. Though many accepted the challenge, it hasn’t gone down yet. Hopefully, this comes to fruition this year, as well.

Snoop Dogg Says The Lakers Are To Blame For His Recent High Blood Pressure: ‘I’m Too Old For This Sh*t!’

Snoop Dogg Hints New Album 'Make America Crip Again'

Being a Laker fan is not for the weak. In fact, it can be downright infuriating at moments. But, despite their Tuesday night overtime win against the Knicks, it did not go without some frustration. Die-hard Laker fan and hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg aired out some of his frustrations about the team on social media, adding that they are to blame for his high blood pressure.

“You know what that smile means: the Lakers win. Yes! We find a way!” Snoop said in a video posted to his Instagram. “Goddamn, y’all got my nerves bad and my blood pressure high. Goddamn it, figure it out and start winning every night goddamn it! I’m too old for this shit!”

He wrote in the caption: “Lakers. Win [smiling face emojis] smile. Bitch.”

The Lakers narrowly beat the Knicks on Tuesday, 123-129 in overtime. This came off a 104-121 loss to the Nets where LeBron and Anthony Davis sat the game out. LeBron was said to be resting his ankle, but rumors circulated saying that LeBron sat out the game in protest of the referees from the controversial loss to the Celtics on Saturday after referees failed to call a foul on Jayson Tatum for coming into contact with LeBron’s arm as the Lakers forward was going up for a game-winning lay up.

The NBA referees came out after the game and said that a mistake was made and a foul should have been given.

Dr. Dre’s 1992 Classic ‘The Chronic’ Has Returned To Streaming Services

For a year, Dr. Dre’s groundbreaking solo debut record, The Chronic, has been unavailable to stream after being pulled down while Dre and his respective labels, Death Row Records and Interscope, wrangled over the rights behind the scenes. Today, though, it’s finally back as part of its 30th-anniversary celebration (it was released in December 1992, so it’s kinda borderline, but we’ll take it).

In a statement, Dre said, “I am thrilled to bring The Chronic home to its original distribution partner, Interscope Records. Working alongside my longtime colleagues, Steve Berman and John Janick, to re-release the album and make it available to fans all over the world is a full circle moment for me.”

The last time The Chronic was on streaming was in 2020, however, after Snoop Dogg secured the rights to the Death Row Records catalog early last year, several of the label’s seminal releases went missing from DSPs, with Snoop explaining that he wanted to create a new platform since DSPs pay reportedly minuscule royalties on streams.

There was also some confusion over just who owned the rights to The Chronic; while Snoop initially said it was part of the Death Row catalog, Dre’s lawyer denied that it was. Eventually, it seems they got things cleared up and the real winner in all this is the fans, who get to revisit the album that changed gangsta rap forever.

Snoop Dogg & Jimmy Kimmel Go Over his Crazy Requests: Fritos, Lemonade, Hot Wings

When you’ve reached a certain level of success, you can ask for ridiculous things, like Snoop Dogg seems to do. The Rap mogul has been involved in various aspects of the entertainment industry for decades. He’s moved from being perceived as a frightening gangster rapper to making baked goods with Martha Stewart.

Snoop recently had a full circle moment with Jimmy Kimmel during his appearance on the comedian’s late-night talk show this week. Twenty years ago, Snoop sat down for an interview on Kimmel’s very first episode, and the host spoke about the ridiculous requests the rapper made at the time.

Apparently, back in 2003, Snoop demanded chicken wings—and they had to be from Hot Wings Cafe or Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles. He also requested fruit punch, Moët & Chandon champagne, Country Time lemonade, and the Donald Duck brand of orange juice.

Things have evolved over the last two decades. These days, Snoop requires specific, small bags of Doritos, Minute Maid fruit punch, Honey BBQ Fritos, and cranberry juice.

“You know you’re here for an hour, right?” Kimmel joked.

The rapper was able to laugh at it all.

“You got to look at it like this, Jimmy,” he said. “Every opportunity to do a television show is like a shopping spree, I get a chance to get some free groceries.”

T.I. Says He’s A “Hybrid” Of Tupac, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, & Diddy

His interview with Shannon Sharpe on Club Shay Shay has offered several takeaways, but Hip Hop reacted swiftly to T.I.’s this particular soundbite. T.I. has never been one to mince words when he speaks on his legacy, and he discussed artists he likens himself to in Hip Hop.

“I see myself as a hybrid kind of between, I guess, [Jay-Z], [Tupac Shakur], Puff, and like a Snoop. You know what I’m saying?” he said.

“I kind of hop in and out and take pages out of the book of legends,” he further stated. “And I’ve been fortunate enough and blessed enough to be able to have these relationships where I could sit and engage and soak up game.”

He also shared the names of artists who have helped him over the years. “People like E-40, people like Too $hort, people like Master P, people like J. Prince, people like Russell Simmons, people like Puff, people like Jay.”

Elsewhere in the interview, T.I. also shared stories of his jump into acting. The Rap mogul has a successful career in several aspects of entertainment, making his acting debut in 2006’s ATL.

However, T.I. revealed he had an opportunity to be added to the cast of 2002’s Drumline. He auditioned for the role but dismissed having to learn the drums. In the end, the part he read for went to Nick Cannon, and the rest was history.

Snoop Dogg Reminisced About ‘Quitting’ Smoking Weed 20 Years Ago On The ‘Jimmy Kimmel’ Anniversary Episode

Last night (January 26), Jimmy Kimmel Live! celebrated its 20th anniversary with a special episode looking back at the show’s two-decade run. They even got the celebrity guests from the debut episode back: Snoop Dogg (who served as co-host on the 2003 episode) and George Clooney. The two had a retrospective conversation, in which they discussed how at the time back then, Snoop had apparently just quit smoking weed… or so he told Kimmel.

Kimmel brought that up and followed up, “How is that going?” Snoop, who is of course one of pop culture’s most famous marijuana connoisseurs, gave a fake sigh and replied, “Well, I guess I’ve relapsed.”

From there, Kimmel revealed he has hung on to Snoop’s 2003 rider (a list of things he wanted in his dressing room) for all these years and rattled off the items, which were mostly junk food. He then compared it to Snoop’s current rider, which is essentially the same but just a lot longer. Snoop laughed as he read the newer rider and then explained, “You got to look at it like this: Every opportunity to go on a television show is like a shopping spree. I get a chance to get some free groceries.”

Check out the clip above. Snoop also sat in on Kimmel’s conversation with Clooney, so find that below.

snoop dogg

The next class of the Songwriters Hall of Fame will include Black music icons Snoop Dogg, Sade Ade, and Teddy Riley. The 52nd annual induction and awards gala is set for Thursday, June 15, at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

Hearing the news, Snoop Dogg hit Instagram and celebrated the achievement in a video.

“Damn, Songwriters Hall of Fame? That’s big,” Snoop opened. “And just to think, I’ve been telling people for the past seven years, ‘Who you wanna do a song with, Snoop?’ I’d always say, Sade. And now we going to the Songwriters Hall of Fame on the same day. And not only that, Teddy Riley? New Jack Swing? I’m going in with him? Man, God is good. Just a little kid from the East side of Long Beach with a big ass dream.”

In addition to Sade, Snoop and Riley, Gloria Estefan, Glen Ballard, and Liz Rose are among the songwriters that will be included.

According to Billboard, this will be the fifth induction ceremony in which a songwriter affiliated with rap or hip-hop will be recognized. Snoop joins Jay-Z (2017), Jermaine Dupri (2018), Missy Elliott (2019), and The Neptunes’ Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams (2022).

“The music industry does not exist without songwriters delivering great songs first,” SHOF chairman Nile Rodgers (a 2016 SHOF inductee) said in a statement. “Without them there is no recorded music, no concert business, no merch … nothing, it all starts with the song and the songwriter.”
