Snoop Dogg Blew Off Simone Biles’ Mom Years Ago And She Let Him Know About It At The 2024 Olympics

As of this post, the United States is crushing it at the 2024 Olympics, as the US is tied with host country France for the most total medals, with 14. Perhaps the most visible American at the games, though, has been Snoop Dogg, as an official torch bearer and member of NBC’s Olympics broadcast team.

That came back to (playfully) bite him in the (figurative) butt, though, as Snoop found himself (literally) face-to-face with a (low-stakes) demon from his past.

As part of NBC’s coverage, Snoop and Hoda Kotb had a chat with some members of star gymnast Simone Biles’ family. At one point during the segment, Kotb mentioned in reference to Biles’ mother, “Snoop, I don’t know if you know this, but Simone and you have known each other for a long time, right, Nellie?”

Nellie then told her story: “I remember, I will never forget that we met you in Times Square [in] 2010, and you said, ‘cause we asked for a picture, and you said, ‘Two minutes.’ One, two, and you were gone.”

There was nothing bitter about the good-natured call-out, as everybody had a good laugh over the anecdote. Check out the clip, which took place during the opening ceremony, below.

Snoop Dogg And Pharrell Carry Olympic Torch Before Paris Games

Snoop Dogg and Pharrell Williams both carried Olympic torches Friday morning in the last leg of the 2024 relay. The relay, an Olympic tradition, ends with the lighting of the cauldron at the opening ceremonies, signifying the beginning of the Paris Games. More than two months after the Olympic flame was first lit in Greece, Snoop took his torch through a stretch of Seine-Saint-Denis in France. In a video of the scene, the legendary rapper waves to fans in attendance and dances while holding the torch.

“I look at this as a prestigious honor and something I truly respect,” Snoop Dogg previously told the Associated Press after he was asked to do the relay. “I would have never dreamed of nothing like this. I’m going to be on my best behavior. I’m going to be on my best athleticism. I’ll be able to breathe slow to walk fast and hold the torch with a smile on my face, because I realize how prestigious this event is.” Pharrell was the final bearer of the torch before the flame makes its way to the Olympic cauldron. He carried it to the top of the Basilica Cathedral of Saint-Denis.

For Snoop Dogg and Pharrell, they are two more celebrities who’ve had the honor of holding the Olympic torch. K-pop singer Jin held it earlier this month. Muhammad Ali, Magic Johnson, the Williams sisters, and others have held it in the past. The torch relay, which started with the 1936 Summer Olympics, spans multiple countries and people from everywhere in the world. It is viewed as a symbol of unity and friendship, becoming a lasting tradition during what is always a joyous time for the participating countries.

Snoop Dogg holding the torch is the latest example of what has been a successful year for the legend. His revived Death Row Records is building out its roster. Snoop introduced Charlie Bereal to fans on Wednesday, a signing that went over well with his audience. He announced Missionary, the Dr. Dre-produced spiritual successor to his debut album Doggystyle, was on the way. Snoop is among the most accomplished artists of all time. And now, he can call himself a former Olympic torch bearer as well.

Fans Have Taken Snoop Dogg’s 2024 Olympic Torch Moment And Turned It Into One Fiery Joke About Stoners

In his career, Snoop Dogg has set the charts on fire and sparked a few (more than a few) blunts. But the legendary hip-hop figure was willing to put his love for marijuana on the back burner to fulfill one of his lifelong dreams — carrying the Olympic torch at the 2024 games.

Today (July 25), the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” rapper completed his ultimate side mission while in the Parisian suburb of Saint-Denis. Snoop took to X (formerly Twitter) with pride for his monumental accomplishment.

“Did somethin today. [100 emoji] [fist pound emoji] [fire emoji] #FollowTheDogg,” he wrote.

But users online wasted no time turning the moment into one flaming joke about stoners. Several folks took some creative liberties, mainly photo and video editing, to re-imagine the ceremony.

“Thank you for holding the Olympic joint,” wrote one page.

“Hope you had fun,” wrote one user with a modified photo.

“You tried to smoke it didn’t you,” laughed one person.

“Light a blunt with it,” asked anoter.

“I know Snoop in Paris high as hell,” laughed another.

Even the official Olympic page chimed in with a joke of their own.

“Don’t… ‘Drop it like it’s hot,” wrote the page.

All in all, Snoop is on cloud nine over his career high or so he told AP. “I look at this as a prestigious honor and something I truly respect,” he said. “I would have never dreamed of nothing like this,” he said. “I’m going to be on my best behavior. I’m going to be on my best athleticism. I’ll be able to breathe slow to walk fast and hold the torch with a smile on my face, because I realize how prestigious this event is.”

Rakim Releases First New Project In 15 Years ‘G.O.D.’S Network (Reb7rth)’, New Video “Love Is The Message”

unnamed 78

Hip-hop legend Rakim is breaking new ground with his new project, G.O.D.’S NETWORK (REB7RTH), by flexing his skills both on the mic and behind the boards.  Widely lauded as the best lyricist of all time, The God MC himself is blessing the culture with the next step in his historic career; and his first project in 15 years.  G.O.D.’S NETWORK (REB7RTH) is now available.

“I feel like the battery in my back has been reenergized,” Rakim said about his new project, which arrives nearly four decades after the release of his classic debut with Eric B., Paid In Full. Since then, he’s continued to shape the landscape and culture of hip-hop as we know it, inspiring rising artists with his hype live shows and incredible studio albums. And while he’s produced some of his previous work—notably “Don’t Sweat the Technique,” “Juice (Know The Ledge),” and “Paid In Full”—this feels like new territory for the 18th Letter, whose production and scratching talents are nothing short of remarkable.

G.O.D.’S NETWORK (REB7RTH) is proof that Rakim is truly one of the most special artists we’ve known, not just in hip-hop, but all of music. You can tell he feels that level of praise when speaking about the genesis of the album. “Having the ability to showcase my talents behind the boards, coupled with the elite lyricism the world already knows and gives me infinite praise for, alongside some of the best talents to ever do it is truly a blessing and for that I am humbled,” Rakim declared.

The album’s first single, “Be Ill,” is the perfect introduction, as it pairs Rakim’s raw rhymes and head-nodding production with slick guest features from Kurupt and Masta Killa. Elsewhere, Rakim slows it down for the soulful “Love Is The Message,” which features Nipsey Hussle, Planet Asia, Louis King, Snoop Dogg, Sally Green, Kobe Honeycutt, and the LA Grand Choir. And then there’s the chest-thumping “International,” a straight-up slapper with hard-hitting rhymes from Kool G. Rap, Tristate, and Joell Ortiz.

Snoop Dogg Introduces Latest Death Row Records Signee, Charlie Bereal

Snoop Dogg became the owner of Death Row Records after acquiring the label in 2022. The label, which Dr. Dre, 2Pac, and Snoop himself called home in the early 1990s, was inactive for nearly twenty years. Former boss Suge Knight landed himself in legal troubles that ended with Knight and Death Row filing for bankruptcy in 2006. Now, with Snoop Dogg in charge, Death Row is once again trying to find a place in an ever-changing hip-hop and R&B space.

Snoop Dogg signed several artists, including Rhythm + Flow winner D Smoke and singer October London. London recently appeared on the Anderson .Paak & Knxwledge (NxWorries) track “FromHere” from their new album Why Lawd? The track also featured Snoop, who delivered a short outro. Snoop even signed Tha Dogg Pound, who released their first album on the label in nearly three decades. With a roster of up and comers and established veterans, Snoop added another veteran to the mix. R&B and gospel singer Charlie Bereal. Snoop took to Instagram to promote his new signee on Wednesday afternoon.

Fans reacted in a generally positive way to Snoop Dogg’s latest signee. Bereal’s sound is similar to that of a 1970s R&B artist, which fans acknowledged. “We need this kind of music again,” said one user. “Sounds a lot like The Stylistics,” wrote another user. Others lamented the way that Death Row’s sound changed, moving from mainly hip-hop to a roster of mostly R&B acts. “What happened to the real sound of Death Row?” asked one user.

Charlie Bereal (pronounced Burell) was previously a member of the gospel group The Soul Seekers. He released his debut solo album Testimony in 2017 and followed it up with 11-11-11 in 2019. He is also a multi-instrumentalist, known primarily for his abilities on the guitar. In addition, Bereal is also a Grammy-nominated artist. He received the nod for his work on the BJ the Chicago Kid track “Bring It On Home To Me.” Hopefully, the move helps boost Bereal’s status as an artist and he benefits from being signed to Death Row in the long run. Bereal’s debut single on his new label, “Never Gonna Take Away My Love,” releases on Friday.

The Results Of A ‘Celebrity Family Feud’ Question About The Greatest Rapper Of All Time Causes Chaos Online

X (Twitter)

If you ever want to spark a debate, post a ranked list about anything. But especially if that opinion piece as anything to do with rapper stars, just ask Eminem, Fat Joe, or Usher.

The producers of Celebrity Family Feud learned this the hard way. During a recent episode of the beloved game show, starring Tori Kelly, Meghan Trainor, and Daryl Sabara, the families and even host Steve Harvey were rattled by the survey results. When asked who was the greatest rapper of all time, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Lil Wayne all struck out as confirmed answers.

Eventually, a contestant scored with a guess of the late Tupac. But, subsequent responses of Nas and Drake earned players strikes. When the full list was revealed, which included Snoop Dogg (at No. 1), Tupac, Eminem, Dr. Dre, LL Cool J, The Notorious B.I.G., 50 Cent, and Jay-Z.

Users across X (formerly Twitter) voiced their issues with the results.

“We literally asked 100 Vermont residents to answer this,” wrote one user.

“We know who was polled for this question by the answers 🥴,” penned another.

“That’s hip-hop. But, they didn’t ask hip-hop people,” remarked one user.

“Snoop Dogg number 1 and Jay-Z last? Who answered this question? Some bums in the street,” chimed another.

“Family Feud needs to be investigated,” joked another.

Dr Dre Details Hilarious Blind Double Date With Snoop Dogg Gone Wrong

Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg are the most iconic duo in hip-hop history. Granted, they are an official duo like Outkast or Mobb Deep, but their impact is undeniable. They codified gangsta rap in the mainstream, and have mentored generations of West Coast artists. Dre and Snoop are mythic figures at this point. That’s what makes stories about their early days so enthralling. It’s nice to hear about instances in which they were more relatable, less G’d out. Dr Dre provided fans with one such story during a recent interview.

The duo sat down with Capital Xtra on June 19 to take about their three decade friendship. Snoop Dogg detailed his reverence for Dr Dre, dubbing him his “older brother.” He also credited the producer for his business acumen, and sound financial advice over the years. “I just love being with him in the studio and real life,” Snoop explained. Dr Dre was appreciative, but he took the interview in a more comedic light. He decided to recount a story in which him and Snoop went on a blind double date. Dre recalls being thrilled when they went to pick up their dates. That was, until he realized the woman he was entranced by was actually Snoop’s girl.

Dr Dre Recorded A Classic The Day After The Double Date

“I thought it was mine and it wasn’t,” Dr Dre jokingly recalled. “Snoop pushed me out the way like, ‘Nah, Cuz, that’s me.’ When I turned that corner and saw mine, I was really disappointed.” To make the whole thing worse, the duo had to drive in a rain storm to get there. “We drove for an hour in Hurricane Katrina to get there and I was extremely disappointed,” the producer reiterated. Incredibly, there is a silver lining to the story. While the double date didn’t go as planned for Dr Dre, the producer went into the studio the very next day and recorded “Nothin’ But a ‘G’ Thang.” The 1992 song would become a smash hit and a signature for both him and Snoop.

Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg are close as ever. The two artists are working on the album Missionary, which is said to be a sequel to Snoop’s 1993 debut Doggystyle. Dr Dre will handle production on the album, and has been working on and off with Snoop for the last two years. Snoop Dogg promised that Missionary is going to be worth the wait, as it will showcase a mature side of his musical persona. “[Dr Dre] uses me like a f*cking robot and I love it because I love to be produced,” he told the podcast All the Smoke with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson. “I love to be challenged…. [the album is] masterful.”
